Adjustment brush changed its behavior

This behavior just started:  When I use the adjustment brush, it slightly darkens the area brushed over no matter what options I have set for it to apply.  I have no mask active.  The actual effects only become visible once I deactivate the brush.  Until today, the brush worked perfectly.  And the graduated filter works as it should, along with all the other tools.  Any suggestions?
Lightroom 2.3, Vista 64 Ultimate SP1, 12 GB RAM, i7 chip.

In Vista 64 the preferences file is located on your application drive at {User} > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Lightroom > Preferences. AppData is a hidden file on Windows, so you'll need to open Folder Options in the Control Panel and turn on "view hidden files and folders."  You'll have to reset all those choices you initially made as to how Lightroom appears on screen, such as how side panels appear/disappear, grid view options, etc.

  • I've found that middlemouse.contentLoadURL feature has changed its behavior in FF5.0 as compared with previous versions

I've found that middlemouse.contentLoadURL feature has changed its behavior in FF5.0 as compared with previous versions: I now can paste&load only full urls that start with "http://" prefix, but previously it was possible to paste&load any url even without protocol prefix. It is very useful when someone has an url for example just "support.mozilla.com", but with FF5.0 one _has_ to paste it to urlbar instead of just middle-clicking into the browser window (long standing and usual *nix behavior). How can I make middlemouse.contentLoadURL load any clipboard content not prefixed with protocol specification?

Oops, already found a solution: https://support.mozilla.com/ru/questions/824759
But, how could it be done via something less freaky (ala about:config)?

  • Adjustment brush changes can't be undone in Camera Raw?

I worked on a RAW file in Camera Raw (Leica M9, DNG), changing various settings and correcting various areas with the Adjustment brush. When I come back to the file, I can re-modify all the settings, except in the Adjustment brush mode, where it only seems possible to create a new adjustment zone.  "Add", "Erase" and "Clear All" are all greyed out.  Does anyone know how I can undo the changes that I made a couple of weeks ago?  It looks like they've been made permanent, but it's not supposed to be like that with RAW files.
    Many thanks for your help.
    RG

Can you, from within Photoshop, choose File - Open As, then choose the TIFF file, and set the selector over on the right to Camera Raw?
I know that you'd really like to set up to open them automatically through Camera Raw, but this could serve as a workaround.

  • Adjustment brush changes size

Hello, maybe someone has an answer to this:
In Develop, when preparing to use the Adjustment Brush, first I adjust the size of the brush.  I slide my cursor along the Size slider and the displayed adjacent "sample brush" varies in size.
Next, I move the cursor into the field of the image.  When the cursor crosses over into the image field, the circle indicating brush size changes;  it gets larger by roughly 25%.  I have been using the adjustment brush now for what seems like 2 or 3 years, but I can't recall it changing size before.
Is this normal?  Below please viddy 2 screenshots:  a) the cursor(sadly not reproduced in the screenshots) hovers at the slider;  b) The cursor is moved to the image field, and the Adjustment brush circle has increased in size.
Mac OS 10.7.4(current), Macbook Pro w/ NEC external mon., 2.8GHz, 8GB ram on 2 cores, Catalog on internal HDD, Library on external HDD, LR 4.1, Nikon raw files.

Hi Victoria.  First of all let me thank you for all the help you provide with Lightroom, you are the Queen!!!
What I meant to say was when you are using the sliders in the side panel and not the [ ] keys to adjust the brush size, the brush is shown next to the panel and it is the CORRECT size.  As soon as you move into the photo to edit, the brush scales up in the same proportion as you have set in the UNIVERSAL ACCESS cursor size setting.  You HAVE to be using the adjust sliders to see the smaller brush.  I probably will only use the [ ] keys now that I have solved this problem but before I had to use the sliders to see what the REAL brush size was going to be and then mentally scale what the brush should have looked like in the photo, a pain for sure.  If you need more info, let me know.

  • When an addon or extension changes its behavior to "spyware", who should be notified?

While browsing extensions, I don't see a notify Mozilla or "report spyware" link to click on. There is a case where an addon is obtrusively installing a monitoring system along with the addon, and I want to report it.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/blocksite/
Something fishy/phishy is going on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/blocksite/reviews/?src=api

There is a report button above the reviews to report the addon of wrongdoing, though Mozilla checks each addon so i doubt if its doing anything that breaks the addon guidelines.

  • Adjustment brush differences in 3.x?

Is it just my imagination, or did the behavior of adjustment brushes change in 3.0? If my memory's correct, the adjustment brush in 2.x painted the adjustment at the set density, etc. and that was it. Continuing to use the same brush in the same area of an image did nothing more. If you wanted to enhance the effect (without changing the sliders), you could pick New brush and paint over the same area again.
But now, in 3.0, I've noticed that you can further enhance any adjustment brush effect by painting over the same area again, without creating a new adjustment brush. If you look at the mask, it will increase in density (get deeper red) every time you brush over an area, pretty much the way brushes work in Photoshop. Neat!
So is this new, or not?
    Thanks,
    Dave

One more significant change is that Auto-mask now works on Eraser too. I use this almost daily.
I might be misunderstanding what you mean, but the we were able to use the auto mask with eraser in Lr2, and I've just checked to make sure that I'm not imaging things.

  • Why do adjustment brush parameters change after drawing?

Adjustment brush includes few "programm preset effects". When I start to use "Eris inhance", its parameters are set to 66. After drawing part of my picture, it automatucally decrease to 40. I do need every time to increase it again to 66 manually. I do not know why those parameters change and how to repair it (previously it was always set at the 66 level, even after drawing).
I use Lr 4.1 on Mac.
Actually parameters change just after I realease my mouse.

  • Strange behavior in Adjustment Brush Module

In the Adjustment Brush module of ACR 5:
Adjusting Exposure with the plus or minus signs on an image after any mask is applied has the following effect: No further adjustments of any kind can be applied. This only applies to plus or minus *Exposure* adjustments; not to any of the others.
However, if after the application of the mask, one immediately uses the sliders, (on Exposure or any other adjustment) all is ok with the Exposure adjustment and all other adjustments, although I am not certain Sharpness is working as I see no change even at 100%.
    Can anyone duplicate this behvior?
I am running Windows SP Pro SP3 with Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS updated drivers.

mmmm...I did a Google search on "tooltips for the + and - icons."
I did not find them. Can someone please point me to them.

  • How to change local adjustment brush size when unselecting ?

Perhaps a stupid beginners question but i cannot seem to find this one..
Using the local adjustment brush i can change the size of the brush using the [ and ] brackets
However.. when i make a small error and want to erase brushed-area by using the ALT key then the brush size seems to be fixed to one size ???

    Erwin,
As they say, there are lots of ways to skin a cat.
Erase mode uses a different setting for the brush size. You can adjust it, but not with the brackets while the Alt key is held down. With the Alt held down, you can still move the size slider in the brush panel with the mouse.
I can't speak for Macs, but on Windows, my scroll wheel works to change the size of the brush, whether the alt key is pressed or not.
If that won't work for you, you can click on the "Erase" text button in the brush panel and then use the bracket keys to change sizes. You'll be in erase mode even without holding down the Alt key. In fact, in that mode, holding the Alt key puts you back in "paint" mode.

For a temporary fix, change your region? Get a 3rd party Calendar app that fits your needs?
I assume your current region is set in the photo?
If so, pick a region that has a start day of Sunday. (either historically or known for the present)
Note, with changing your region, it will change the default phone number prefix/country code for new contacts and addresses. (calling and SMS is not affected)

  • Why don't changes made in camera raw with the adjustment brush carry into photoshop?

Why don't changes made in camera raw with the adjustment brush carry into photoshop?

Using the Open button in ACR to get to PS doesn’t create a PSD or a TIF, it just transfers the image in memory.
As has been asked, already, what are the precise steps of your workflow starting with your painting the adjustment brush strokes in ACR and seeing the image in PS without the strokes, and what exact versions of PS and ACR are you using?
Use Help / About Photoshop..., and Help / About Plug-ins... / Camera Raw...

  • I'm using Lightroom cc, I'm trying to create a develop preset. I'm making changes to one photo that I want to apply to many other photos, one of the changes is to blur the background using the adjustment brush. When I am blurring I am going over the photo

I'm using Lightroom cc, I'm trying to create a develop preset. I'm making changes to one photo that I want to apply to many other photos, one of the changes is to blur the background using the adjustment brush. When I am blurring I am going over the photo several times, when I go to create the preset the adjustment brush is not an option to check. How do I add the adjustment brush to the develop presets. Thanks Ron.

The adjustment brush cannot be added to a develop preset.
If you can replace the adjustment brush with a gradient filter or radial filter, you can add those to a dev preset.
If a gradient filter or radial filter is not an option for you, you can at least create an adjustment preset to remember your brush settings.

  • Adjustment Brush Slider Increments are DIfferent... Behavior?

When using the up/down arrows on global adjustment sliders, with exception to Exposure/Temp in terms of numbers, the increments will be changed by 5 if only pressing the arrow keys. If holding option/alt with the arrow keys, it will change by 1. With shift, 20. Now when we go to the adjustment brush, it is completely different  and option/alt does nothing. Why is that?  It would be very useful to change the adjustment brush Exposure in smaller increments by using the up down arrows.

It would be very useful to change the adjustment brush Exposure in smaller increments by using the up down arrows.
    Smaller or Larger?
Most of them move by 1 with no keyboard modifiers — can't be smaller.

  • Accept/Reject changes and Adjustment Brush Buttons have disappeared

The buttons that appear at the bottom of the Development Panel when using the Adjustment Brush, Crop Tool, GND Filter, etc., have STOPPED appearing on my version.  I can accept the changes by clicking on the Brush, ND filter, etc, but have no way to reject the changes other than going back in the history.  Also, the button that shows the Adjustment Brush as a "painted" area has disappeared with the rest, and so I can never specifically see the area I'm attempting to work on.  I thought perhaps I did something that hid or disabled these buttons, but I cannot find any such action.  Any ideas on this?  Thanks for any help.

While you're in the Adjustment Brush, hit the T key.
