Adjustment brush: Hue & Luminance

I NEED Hue added to the adjustment brushed list as this is mission critical for me. Can you add it in update 2.1? Luminance would also be nice.
I do Whitewater photographs and I need to change the hue in the water from greenish yellow to a pleasing blue water with the Auto Mask feature (nice feature by the way). I can do it in Photoshop, but is way too slow for me.
Thanks, Zech Wendt

I tried what you suggested, however the only problem with it is that when I go to the colors an paint the water that should be white turns blue. I want to change the yellow and green to blue like it does in Photoshop when I use the hue slider.
I use the following settings in Photoshop:
Hue/Saturation Layer> Master> Hue: 135
Hue/Saturation Layer> Opacity: 45

  • Nikon D70s + Process 2010 + Luminance Noise Reduction + Adjustment Brush = blurry picture

Please let me know if you have experienced the following and if it is a known bug:
I'm processing a very noisy Nikon D70s raw photograph with Lightroom 3: In the develop mode, I applied the 2010 process under Camera Calibration, and then set the Luminance Noise Reduction to 98 in the detail panel. At this point, the resulting improvement over the original is dramatic and the details are rather crisp given the original condition of the photo.
However, the moment I apply a local adjustment to the photo, bluriness is introduced to the photo; the bluriness affects the entire photo and not only the areas impacted by the local adjustment. This undesired effect appears with the adjustment brush and gradient and the only parameter that the local adjustment applies is an increase in the exposure by 0.01, which should normally not produce much of a visible effect.
I exported the photo to a jpeg and found the undesired effect in the jpeg file.
I believe this issue has a relation with the RAW file coming from a Nikon D70s as I performed a Sync of all the settings on RAW photos originating from a Canon 30D, and from a Canon XSi and did not see any of the undesired effect.
These steps appear to be reproduceable on any of the Nikon D70s RAW photos that I have in my catalog.
    Please share some feedback.
    Thanks,
    Bruno

The NEF and xmp files are now available at http://drop.io/LR3BugAdjBrushNoise8736
In the current development settings, I added an adjustment brush to the ceiling with an exposure adjustment of +0.01 simply to demonstrate the issue. As soon as the adjustment is applied, bluriness can be seen and is most apparent in the faces but can also be seen on the wooden floor and everywhere else.
I also noticed that by setting the mask to show (O), ditthering can be seen in the mask even though it was applied with feather, flow and density all set to 100%.
Let me know what you think.

  • Color selection display in adjustment brush

I notice that the color palette as displayed in the adjustment brush has changed. Below is the display for 5.0
and below this is display for 5.2RC
Wonder if this is signicant. I know it dosent change any thing regarding color selection.
Just wondering. I suppose it is more logical geometrically.

The Color Band can be moved and set where ever you like it.
If you hold down your Alt/Opt key while hovering over the color picker, you can click and drag the band whereever you like it. Note, this does not change the Value (number) of the Hue, only where it appears on the screen.
You can set your Hue to 0 and then drag it back to the left side using the Alt-Click-Drag if it bothers you.

  • Adjustment brush with exposure setting cancels noise reduction

    Hello,
I just noticed the following problem:
    1) Camera Raw 6.5; Bridge CS5 (4.0.5.11); Mac OS X 10.6.8; Mac Pro 3,1; Dual Quad-Core Xeon; 8GB RAM.
    2) Start with a noisy raw file (mine is from a Canon 5D II).
    3) Apply Noise Reduction (Luminance:30; Lum Detail:75; Lum Contrast:0; Color:25; Color Detail:50).
    4) Go to Adjustment Brush and set a non-zero Exposure value.
    5) Apply brush to image and notice the Noise Reduction effects disappear (noise returns).
    6) Click Clear All button to clear Adjustment Brush and Noise Reduction works again.
This seems to only happen with Adjustment Brushes with a non-zero Exposure value (applying brightness or other settings don't seem to produce the problem).
    Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks!

    Richard (and others),
Yes, very good idea to check that. The problem does indeed get applied to the full sized, opened image as well as to the display previews. After working with this more, I now notice that I was wrong to say that the entire noise reduction is cancelled - rather it "changes", sometimes subtly, sometimes more dramatically depending on what the noise reduction settings are set to. Further, how dramatic the "changes" appear depend greatly on the preview zoom (the changes are more subtle at 100%, but it can look like the noise reduction is completely turned off at 50% and 66%).
Now I realize that the noise reduction does not ordinarily display at all preview sizes (especially smaller ones), but this is different. At preview sizes where it does normally get applied, applying an adjustment brush with any non-zero exposure value (even just +0.05) can have the appearance that the NR is completely turned off for the whole image. Simply nudging the exposure value back to zero brings all the noise reduction back.
Also, to be clearer and avoid confusion for others, the change in noise I'm seeing is not localized to just the brushed spot. Obviously if one increases exposure, you'd expect to potentially see more noise. Instead, what I'm seeing happens to the entire image, even if I simply paint a single small brush dot, say in a far corner. Having the image change globally in response to painting a small spot with the adjustment brush cannot be a correct result. Further, this does not happen with any of the other adjustment brush settings like brightness, contrast or saturation. There must be something unique about the exposure setting that perhaps introduces a new step into the processing pipeline, and this step is affecting the entire image.
In any case, the problem only seems to be an issue in somewhat extreme cases and is less noticeable at 100% (and the finally opened image). It's more just annoying when previews are generated for viewing in Bridge, for example.
I suppose one alternative might be to rob a bank and go buy one of those new 1D X's. Then maybe I wouldn't have to worry about noise anymore.
    Thanks for the responses!

  • Adjustment Brush - Expanding "Auto Mask" Capabilities

Please expand the "Auto Mask" capability on the "Adjustment Brush".
The "Adjustment Brush" is the most powerful localized adjustment tool - even before the wonderful enhancements in LR4.
However, the "Auto Mask" function is limiting.
In its current state, LR samples a narrow range under the cursor which creates a mask having numerous voids.
Adding a “color range" and "fall off" sliders to the Adjustment Brush's "Auto Mask" would expand the sampling range and therefore the create a smoother soft-edge mask with adjustable tolerance. This would greatly expand the function of this powerful tool.  (see 2 options inserted below)
This is similar to Photoshop's Hue/Saturation: “Specify the range of colors adjusted in the Hue/Saturation adjustment” - (where the two inner vertical sliders define the "color range" and the two outer triangle sliders define the “fall off” (transition) of the color range”)

There is another thread at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4142055 ("soften auto mask"),  where users have also been asking for feathering and an upgrade to the performance and usability of the auto mask.

  • Eye Color adjustment brush question

On the adjustment brush when I am using it to change eye color it doesn't change the color at all. I want to change it completely not just lighten it or give it a different tint or hue.
I go to the adjustment brush, turn the saturation all the way down, and then select a color that stands out so that I will be able to tell what I am painting. When I select the color it shows it in the small window in the bottom right side of the adjustment brush "window" thing. The problem is that when I paint it, it doesn't show up at all, it barely even makes a difference no matter which color I select. How do I make it change drastically and completely? Did I accidentally tamper with the settings?
Also, when I use the "plus" and "minus" keys on the keyboard it changes clarity instead of exposure, How do I change it back to exposure?
Thanks for your time. - IZ

Check your Flow setting on the brush (the amount per stroke)
and your Density setting (the limit to how much of your effect (color in your case) settings. If either are very low (under 30 for example) you will have a tough time bulding up paint.

  • How do I use the adjustment brush to mask and not turn my item green?

I have shot some products for my web site.  I need completely white backgrounds. I have tried to mask the product and lighten the whites, but when I click done, my product has turned very green.
Why?  How do you use the brush?  Also, where is the invert to make this easier on me?
Kind of urgent, I need to get these items on my site already.
I know the answer is simple... I just don't know what it is.
    Thanks

Have you tried without the adjustment brush, by simply adjusting white balance from the basic tab in develop?
Click on the eye dropper tool and then click on a neutral gray color. Use the background if it is neutral rather than white. You may need to keep selecting the eye dropper to click in a few different places for best results.
If you decide to use the adjustment brush you can show or hide the mask. Uncheck the mask when you have finished painting; then use the sliders, starting with tint and temperature.

  • Wacom Tablet Pen Pressure stops working in Photoshop after using Lightroom Local Adjustment Brush

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a problem with my Intuos Pro Medium (driver 6.3.9w3 on Windows 8.1)
I am using Lighroom 5.6 and Photoshop CC 2014.
I an get the pen pressure to work in Photoshop without any problem. However, if I go into Lightroom and use the Local Adjustment Brush and then transfer the photo into Photoshop (Right Click Edit In => Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2014 CC) then the pen pressure stops working in Photoshop.
Really frustrating... The only workaround is to close both Photoshop and Lightroom, then reopen Photoshop, then usually the Pen pressure feature starts working again.
Has anyone experienced this before or has any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Guillaume

Your tablet driver isn't reporting pressure correctly.
The knockoff tablet drivers usually need to be revised for each new version of Photoshop (and we have no idea why).
Contact your tablet maker to see if they have updated drivers to fix their bugs.

  • New to the Adjustment Brush Tool...HELP!

Hello!  I am fairly new to Lightroom, and the Adjustment Brush tool specifically, and I am having some problems with it!  I have watched tons of tutorials on using it, and it seems relatively easy...although when I go into my program and attempt to use it, nothing happens to my photo...say if I wanted to adjust the exposure on the face of an individual, I will go in and select the tool, decrease the exposure, make the brush and feather the size I want it, and when I go to "paint" the area I want altered, nothing happens?  The pins appear as if to show me that's where I started, but then no change happens to the area I attempted to paint.  Do I need to select something somewhere to be able to actually use the brush to paint?  Any help is appreciated!!  Thank you!!

First, verify that you have painted something. At the bottom is an option that says "Show Selected Mask Overlay", enable this. It will show the area you have painted so far.
If you see pink appear, this is where you have painted so far. Try changing your adjustments more drastically (i.e. move sliders all the way one direction or another). If you see the effect appear, dial things back until you have what you want.
If you do not see pink appear, make sure your Flow and Density sliders are up. This act like opacity, so if they are too low, you aren't laying down much "paint" with your brush.

  • HELP! Lightroom Crashes Only with Adjustment Brush and only when using HDMI output!

This is very frustrating. I use my Acer N56V laptop to teach Lightroom workshops. I use a 32 inch television as a display. When I have my laptop attached with an HDMI cable and try to use Lightroom's adjustment brush, it crashes. Either the screen and computer just shuts down or I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can do anything else! I can edit in Photoshop, do anything else in Lightroom or even Silver EFX Pro. I can even click on the adjustment brush. But the minute the brush hits the photo (and not before), the computer crashes. If I don't have it attached to the HDMI or if I use a Serial cable, no issues. It's only the adjustment brush and only the HDMI output.
I called Adobe and they said it was because my onboard video card was primary and not the Nvidia. I called Acer and they said it's auto detect. I also tried making the Nvidia card primary and it still happened. Any ideas???

You have switched the overlay mask to always show. Fortunately, it's easy fixed i.e. tap the O key. Shift+O will cycle the overlay through various colours
Other Adjustment Brush and Graduate Filter shortcuts and modifiers are listed them below:
    Open Adjustment Brush - K
    Open Gradient Tool - M
    Show/hide Pin - H
    Always Show - Shift + Cmd/Ctrl+H
    Show Selected/Never Show - Shift+H
To increase Amount - Right Arrow
To decrease Amount - Left Arrow
    To increase/decrease brush size -  ] / [
    To increase/decrease feather - Shift+] / Shift+[
Set Flow Amount - Number Keys
To commit  and/or start new a brush stroke or gradient - Enter / Return
To delete the selected pin - Delete
Holding down - Alt/Option key activates erase mode
    Toggle Auto Mask On/Off - A
Pressing O toggles on/off the overlay
Shift+O cylces through alternative colours for overlay
To constrain gradient to vertical/horizontal  - hold down Shift plus drag
To invert the gradient - '

  • Lightroom 5 What is the Color box for in the adjustment brush and filters

    Hi
I am running Lightroom 5.6 although I think this has been around probably from 4.In the Basic Development module when I select the Adjustment brush, Radial filter or Graduated filter then below Defringe I get a box marked Color. What does this box do.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is what I expected but it does not do it very well. For example If I have a light blue background and select 100% Blue in the Color box I would expect it to increase the blue but it does not really do this.

  • My Local Adjustment Brushes no longer recognized after LR 4.3 update

After running 4.3 update, my local adjsutment brushes are no longer recognized and appearing in the Lightroom GUI.  They are all still located under 'Lightroom' folder --> 'Local Adjustment Brushes' folder (nothing has changed and I see all files are still there in Finder), but no matter how many times I've restarted LR, they are not showing up in the GUI.
    Please advise ASAP!!  Thank you

It's not clear from your initial problem description, but are you talking about local adjustment presets that you have created yourself (i.e. user presets), or are you talking about the standard presets supplied by Lightroom (Burn, Dodge, Soften Skin, etc)?
If it's the latter, go to Preferences>Presets Tab and click on "Restore Local Adjustment Presets".

  • In camera raw, I am no longer able to use the adjustment brush.  This is a recent phenomenon.?

In camera raw, I am no longer able to use the adjustment brush.  This is a recent phenomenon.

Well, it worked fine for me as well for the past couple of years. I had not had any problems using it for the past few years. I use a Mac OS X Yosemite.  As far as I can tell nothing had changed. I had not added any new updates, and a week ago the adjustment brush in camera raw simply ceased working. Everything else in camera raw works.  However, the adjustment brush is a critical tool. I have checked my permissions, and even repaired my permissions with no results.  Of course I have also tried several restarts to no avail.

  • Since updating to v.3.4.5 adjustment brushes no longer work? Please help??

    Hi Guys,
I have just updated to Aperture 3.4.5.
Annoyingly the adjustment brushes and sliders such as "straighten" no longer work. They are added to my adjustments panel when I select them from the drop-down menu, but are accompanied by the sound of the dreaded apple beep (suggesting something is wrong) and do not change the cursor into the appropriate tool, thus preventing me from carrying out these particular adjustments.
If someone has any solutions for this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

Test again in a different user account with a small test library. Does it still not work for a different user after reinstalling?
And test in your regular account with a small test library.
is it possibly something to do with an incombatiability between the new update and a plug-in?
Which plug-ins are you using? Are they all compatible with Aperture 3.4 and Lion?
Aperture 3.4 and later: Some third-party plug-ins are no longer compatible

  • Wrong Mouse Pointer for Adjustment Brush with Image on External Drive

Adjustment brush guide "circles" is not visible when hovering over the image. It is only visible when you are to the side of the image in the gray space. This only happens when I am using Lightroom from my external drive. It does not happen from the local copy.

After some research, the brush preset I created happened to have the same settings as "skin smooth +" in Lightroom, which is the one it kept switching to.  Perhaps that was the problem...
