Adjustment Brush issue over Windows 7

I’m using Windows 7 and Lightroom 2.5 and I’m having some issues with the “Adjustment brush”.
The brush cursor is not well drawn.
I get like “half circle and half plus”.
Or, I get multiple cursors: like 3 or 4.
The tool works ok, but the cursor is terrible.
Also, this issue only happens at some brush and feather size. In the huge and in the smallest ones doesn't happens.
Any ideas?
BTW, also happened with the 2.4 version.

The most likely cause is a video card driver issue. For example, Lightroom and the nVidia Desktop nView control panel don't play well together. If using an nVidia card it might be worth changing the settings from Quality to Performance or vice versa (can'\t recall which). Also check that you have the most up to date video card driver.

  • Lightroom 2.4 Adjustment Brush issue

I currently use Windows XP home and Lightroom 2.4 updated within the last two weeks. When I use the Adjustment Brush it creates the ruby lith mask over the image and dose not show any interactive live adjustments as I've seen on many of the on-line tutorials. Only after I've clicked the close button or the Adjustment Brush are the changes made. I then have to reselect the Adjustment Brush click the appropriate pin and get the same ruby lith mask and repeat the process time and again to achive the results I want.  I have the original 2.2 version on my laptop an it works as per the tutorials. Any pointers as to where I am going wrong would be welcome.

On Mac ctrl +h hide\show pins, o - shows mask, shift + o changes color of the mask

  • Lightroom Adjustment Brush Use for windows

In Using the adjustment brush with exposure mode active I get a light red/pink color over the area the brush is used, this is not the mask that shows up when the curser is put over the pin. I also can not not make real time adjustment but when I click the adjustment brush to turn it off I can see the changes I tried to make. Any comments are suggestion would be welcome.

This is the Photoshop Windows forum. You would likely get an answer much faster if you try asking your question in the Lightroom forum.

  • Adjustment Brush Issue

I've been using the adjustment brush for quite sometime, via LR2 and now LR3.  Currently I am using LR3 and it just stopped working all together.  It won't let me update the previous brush strokes made, nor will it make any changes through new brush strokes.  It will place a new pin, but nothing will take effect or become highlighted when I have the arrow over it, like it does the older pins I had set that work.  I've tried turning certain settings off and on again, as many as I can think of and nothing is working.
When it began doing this today though, I did try something that I'm not quite familiar with.  I was trying out the color settings under the brush adjustments and when I tried to go back to using exposure, saturation, etc. it hasn't worked since.  Anyone have an idea as to what I can do to get it working again?

    Never mind .

  • Lightroom 4 - Spot removal and adjustment brush issues

In Lightroom 4, my spot removal and adjustment brush tools will not work on all areas of photos (in particular faces and the center of photos). The cursor seems to show the tool only on the outside portions of the photo.  Any suggestions?

I have seen this a couple time and a restart of Lr has always fixed it.  It seems like there is some kine of dialog box waiting for input "hidden" behind Lr as it its not there if you minimize Lr.  This has been reported many times for a LONG time so it is probably one of the Lr bugs that is not getting fixed.  To be fair to Adobe, if someone could reproduce this problem it might get fixed but it seems to be pretty obscure.  BTW, I think Ihave seen reports of it in Lr5 also so hopefully it will get fixed in Lr 6

  • LR6 Soften Skin adjustment brush issue

Anyone having problems with the Soften Skin adjustment brush in LR6 for very backlit photos? Mine is showing as very dark since upgrading my catalogue from LR5 and I can't get it to blend in with the skin tones now. Thank you!

    Hi,
EDIT and delete my post to replace it with this:
    I JUST FOUND THE ANSWER!
    See this post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1465984#1465984
Don says: "In Develop press K for Adjustment Brush (or click the Brush Icon). The it appears in the drop down menu next to Effect: that defaults to Exposure and has a small set of up and down arrows to the right of it. Soften Skin is last after a divider. It also appears (????) there for Graduated Filter (M). "
In my case, I was looking in the wrong place for the preset.  It is not in the list of presets in the left column.  Instead, it is in the Effects dropdown right in the Adjustment Brush palette.

  • Adjustment brush in Raw 8.3 not working???

Upgraded Bridge and camera raw from the adobe creative cloud desktop.  Also upgraded all CS6 apps. Upgrade went smoothly.  Having problem in Camera Raw 8.3.  The problem is with the adjustment brush.  It is not working at all.  I can add a new adjustment, when I make any adjustment there is no adjustment. Also I cannot see the mask, or cannot toggle mask on and off.  Absolutely no adjustment with adjustment brush.    Running windows 8.
Then I went and paid for the 9.99 subscription.  Downloaded both ps cc, bridge cc and lightroom 5.  Download fine, all apps working fine with both versions installed.  Having same issue with the adjustment brush when using bridge cc to ACR camera raw 8.3.
First time user of lightroom, seems like the adjustment brush inside lightroom will make the adjustment.  I can’t see where to toggle on and off the mask.  I see the “mask:” at top of adjustment box but nothing next to it or unable to click anything.  I will continue to understand how the mask works in lightroom.  When I click automask again I dont see a mask??
Any suggestions.  I may redownload the windows version of the camera raw 8.3 update and try again.
Hope I have explained this well enough?

  • Loosing Adjustment Brush previews in ACR 7.2

When I move my cursor over a pin (call it pin #1) the area controlled by  pin #1 looses its preview - appears to revert back to the unedited state. (Same if I actually click on that pin, as if I mean to add to that adjustment brush edit.) If I then move the cursor over another pin, any pin,  the preview view returns to the area controlled by pin #1.
This happens with a RAW image that has just 2 adjustment pins as well as as one that has a dozen adjustment brush pins . Clicking the Preview off and on does not cause the preview to return to the pin that has lost its preview. Doesn't matter if the RAW file is using process 2012 or 2010. Happens to NEF files from a D300 as well as D800E. Doesn't matter if Enable Lens Profile Correction is checked. I have turned off and then back on the Use Graphics Processor in Prefs, and changed Image tile size (Does that affect ACR?)

Saw your note in the other thread.
I needed to test this; I don't use the Adjustment Brush much, so I wouldn't have noticed it.
When I HAVE used the Adjustment Brush in the past - though quite possibly never in 7.2 as I reverted back to 7.0 for other reasons - as I would hover over a pin it would put a white "fog" over the image to show where the adjustments are effective.
I've just done a test where I created two obvious adjustments with the Adjustment Brush in the shape of A B on the top of a dark image.  A and B each use different pins.  I then chose [Done] to save the adjustments.
With Camera Raw 7.0, when I open that image back up I see the adjustments, and when I select the Adjustment Brush and hover over each of the pins I see following:
    Open Image:
    Select Adjustment Brush:
    Hover over left pin:
    Hover over right pin:
    Move cursor off right pin:
With Camera Raw 7.2, I see this:
    Open Image:
    Select Adjustment Brush:
    Hover over left pin:
    Hover over right pin:
    Move cursor off right pin:
Yep, looks like a bug all right.

OH JEEZ!!!  That was it!  It did seem odd that everything worked except the adjustment brush.  Thanks for the help.

  • Adjustment brush bugged? Image areas not brushed over change nevertheless

    Problem:
I used the adjustment brush to brighten up an area in an image (+0.2 exposure). Doing so, a nearby but not connected area and not touched by the brush brightened up as well, going from almost blown out to blown out as shown by the red warning overlay.
    System:
Pentium i5 machine, Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, 8 GB RAM
    Lightroom 3.3 64 bit
    Here are some illustrations:
before applying the brush (note the blue are near the upper edge not yet blown out)
I am applying the brush here (note area marked in red, not touching the blue almost blown out part near the top edge):
And this is what happens to the blue area when applying the brush:
The funny thing is, when I hover the cursor over the brush pin (as in the second picture above), the blue area to the top left is NOT marked blown out (as can be seen in the second picture).
Something strange is going on here. Either the red 'blown out' overlay is not functioning correctly in this situation, or the adjustment brush is bugged. It should obviously not have any effect on areas that have not been brushed over.
    Any thoughts?

It seems this is known for quite a while. Has Adobe made any statement on a workaround or that this is being fixed?
I understand this is something occurring in unusual circumstances only but still, it's a bug....
I think the problem is that they cannot reproduce the issue, hence no fix yet.

  • Local Adjustment Brush does not work in Windows 7, 64-bit

All other tools and functions work OK.  My issue is just with the Adjustment Brush;  The Adjustment Panel opens when the brush is selected and the brush moves, but none of the adjustments are applied to the image.  The problem is clearly related to the new operating system.  This was just confirmed, by removing the hard drive with the Windows 7, 64-bit OS,  and inserting an old hard drive with Windows Vista, 32-bit installed. The adjustment brush works fine with the old OS and the same version of PS.
My normal monitor resolution is 1920 x 1200 with a DPI of 151; however, this DPI is not compatible with PS, so I reset it to 149 evey time I use PS.  Lower screen resolutions and DPI settings don't resolve the problem. I mention this only because of a previous cursor problem that was resolved by changing the DPI.
I'm using CS4 with Camera Raw version 5.6.  Version 5.5 also does not work.
    Can anyone offer suggestions?

Problem solved.  One of the recent upgrades to Camera Raw reset the flow rate to zero, which I did not notice until after posting the message.
    Sorry for the error.

  • Left over marks from Adjustment brush, how do i fix?

Hey, just got lightroom 4 and was playing around with the adjustment brush making a photo have a splash of color in black and white. but i can see faint lines left from the brush and i don't know how to get rid of them, any suggestions?

The adjustment brush has a softness setting as well as a size setting, and it takes a little practice and manual skill to develop expertise with it. Ctrl+Shift+ [ ] keys to change this.
Rather than a lot of overlapping strokes, it is normally easier to get a smooth outcome by brushing over a relatively large and diffuse area, and then by more firmly erasing out the parts that you do not want the effect applied to, rather than laboriously painting up to the outline of that.
Also, in my experience it works better to apply a strong amount (relatively opaque brush) of a weak adjustment effect, rather than setting the adjustment to a strong effect and then trying to mute its effect through the use of transparency in the brushstrokes. The former method lets you exaggerate the strength so you can see what you are doing, and then dial it back to taste afterwards. The latter method is relatively hard to be precise with, and there is no way to smooth it out if you get it wrong.
But... IMHPBHFO (in my highly personal but heartfelt opinion) this one particular effect runs counter to the whole idea of colour photography, and also to the whole idea of black-and-white photography, in a rather insidious and fundamental way. Definitely no offense intended here ... and I am not speaking from elitism or purism. We've probably all gone there at some point. But - purleeze - never again (grin). Black-and-white is more than just an "effect"; it's a whole, lovely, independent medium of its own - if appreciated for itself.

  • I'm using Lightroom cc, I'm trying to create a develop preset. I'm making changes to one photo that I want to apply to many other photos, one of the changes is to blur the background using the adjustment brush. When I am blurring I am going over the photo

I'm using Lightroom cc, I'm trying to create a develop preset. I'm making changes to one photo that I want to apply to many other photos, one of the changes is to blur the background using the adjustment brush. When I am blurring I am going over the photo several times, when I go to create the preset the adjustment brush is not an option to check. How do I add the adjustment brush to the develop presets. Thanks Ron.

The adjustment brush cannot be added to a develop preset.
If you can replace the adjustment brush with a gradient filter or radial filter, you can add those to a dev preset.
If a gradient filter or radial filter is not an option for you, you can at least create an adjustment preset to remember your brush settings.

  • Issue with Clone Tool and Adjustment Brush in LR5.3

If I export a .TIFF from LR5.3 in which I've used the Clone Tool or Adjustment Brush Tool and then load the .TIFF up in Photoshop CS2 to perform further edits, I can't save the file to a .JPG - I get a '...program error...' message during the save.  If I turn off the tool and export the file from LR5 again, I can do the edits in Photoshop and save it as a .jpg.  The same thing will happen in Capture NX2 trying to save the LR5 exported .TIFF to .JPG.    Has anyone else experienced this and are there any workarounds?

    ***UPDATE*** 3/7/14
Apparently no one has experienced the issue as I posted above, but in case anyone is interested, I have discovered a workaround.  For some reason, the issue manifests itself when I export the TIFF with the option 'Metadata - Include All Metadata'.  If I change the Metadata option to the 'Copyright Only' or 'Copyright & Contact Info Only' I am able to open the TIFF in Photoshop, make edits as needed, and then save as a JPG.  Apparently LR5 is doing something weird with the Metadata file header that Photoshop and Capture NX2 doesn't like under certain circumstances.
