Adjustment layer blur from AE to PP using dynamic link

Hi there. I'm having trouble with a project I bring into PP from AE via dynamic link.
Here's the problem. On my AE project, I have an adjustment layer with lens blur added to it. I also have a track matte assigned to that adjustment layer, because I have a specific shape in which I want the blur to be applied. Works fine in AE.
However, when I bring the project into PP, the adjustment layer's blur is not applied to anything in PP. It does show up as a blur on animations I created in AE, but is not applied to any footage dropped under it in PP.
Is this normal, or is there a workaround? At this point there it seems there is no benefit in using dynamic link over exporting the project as a clip with an alpha channel.
If it helps to understand, the project is a lower third animation. The goal is to not only have it a little transparent but also slightly blur whatever footage is behind it, only in the area of the lower third.
Any help is much appreciated!

The export settings in PrPro should be ok, since they are the same ones I use for every other project. I did notice that the Max Render Quality checkbox was unchecked though. I just don't know why with the preview settings at max it still looks blurry. I have noticed that if I close down the project and reopen it, the problem might go away.
I have tried exporting in AME, but sometimes the encoder just freezes up and won't render it. Again, another random issue. Not sure why that happens. (Though I recently learned about how to clean the cache and haven't tried exporting the project since then.
I don't know if this will help or not, but what I do is align the footage up in PrPro and then use AE to import the footage. After getting everything the way it should, I use Dynamic Link in PrPro and pull in the AE file.
I would assemble everything in AE, but the source material is P2 footage and AE doesn't have a viewer to differenate between all the clips.
And to make sure for all clarity purposes, I can not reppplicate this problem. It seems to come and go as it wants, almost as if my machine is haunted.

  • How to keep files from disappearing when using Dynamic link to AE from PremProCS4?

I am at my wits end here and hope someone can offer a solution.  I use Dynamic Link in PremProCS4 to link a clip in my timeline to AfterEffects.  I follow the instructions in my book and everytime I close my files and reopen..I loose the clip along with the effects...I get the place card instead.  Here are the steps I do as per the Adobe Classroom in a Book Explains:
I double click on my .MTS file in the Project Board so it comes up on my Source Screen.
I take select the part of the clip I wish to use in my timeline and drag it to the appropriate spot on a video layer.
I then right click the "clip" and select "Replace With After Effects Comp"
I then name the new file.  name or whatever.aep
    It opens in AE
I then apply two simple effects... keying and a cartooning effect I use from NewBlue Cartooner.
As instructed I then go directly back to PremPro and do a "render" by pressing the Enter Key.  This does not work since I only get a yellow bar above the clip instead of a red on???
So then I save the PremPro project and close it then go to the AE project, save and close it.
When I reopen PremPro the file has a place card in it and in AE it says I am missing a file.
I have tried many different ways to do this process including re-importing the .MTS file.
I can close PremPro and reopen it and all is the same as long as I don't close the AfterEffects project.  Once AE is closed it looses the file.  On a note here I keep all my computer source files in the same place and it never changes plus they are in my PPro Project as well.  I never change the names so this isn't this reason.
Is there a tried and true method to select a piece of clip in the video layer in Prem Pro and add effects from AE and not have it misplace the files?
    Thanks  Kate

Hi Mylenium, and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Your idea of renaming comps got me to thinking..hmm.
So I went back with a fresh mind this morning and tried something else..and it worked...so far anyway.
So far I figured it out...
Since the normal process to do this doesn't work for me ..and apparently many others..here is the solution for those of you having similar issues.
In PremPro select the desired clip you wish to place effects on
    Rename it and save
R click and "Replace with AE composition"
    Name new file
You will see three files pop up in AE in the project panel.
The original source clip .. in my case.. shows an icon that lets me know it isn't the true file.
Highlight this file with a click and then go Ctrl H (for PCs)
The group of computer source clips you use for your project will come up.. double click on the original clip you had imported into your PPro project.
The source file icon in AE will change to an icon that denotes the true file...save
Go to your still open Ppro project and make sure it carried the effects over..save.
Now you can save and close the AE project.
So for this works for me today and I hope this helps anyone else dealing with a similar issue.
    Thanks.

CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time.  Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working.  I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's.  Is there a way around this?  Is there a patch to correct it?

    To build CD's???
What problem does Encore have with DL?
If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore.

  • Using Dynamic Link for projects cut in Premiere and effects in AE.. Rendering Question..

    Hello,
So this baffles me. I've been working a lot in Premiere CC lately with ProResHQ green screen material. I send the sequence or individual clips using After Effects by right clicking on the clip in Premiere and selecting Create After Effects Composition...
So I do my thing and when it comes time to render, I select render from IN to OUT in Premiere and wait. Now here's my question. If I select render in Premiere, it will be very sluggish until I click on the After Effects icon in my dock which brings the app to the foreground again. For some reason, this will dramatically accelerate my render speeds in premiere after I re-select the AE app. Why is this doing this?
I'm using a new Mac Pro trashcan tower 3.5 clock speed. 64GB ram. Dual D700 graphics card. I am using a USB3.0 drive for my editing and the internal drive on the tower for the scratch. I'm getting a Lacie 1TB little bigdisk thunderbolt2 that will be my prime scratch and video location for future stuff.
    Thanks for your help -

Generally speaking, there is no 'one & only' proper workflow. Just keep in mind the following:
    - not all effects and transitions are properly translated when travelling from PrPro to AE;
    - in Dynamic Link scenario PrPro communicates with AE projects via single instance of headless AE, which creates a bottleneck. See this good old thread on Dynamic Link workflow, pay attention to Todd's comments;
    - since AE allows to set a DI as a proxy to dynamically linked comp, with reasonable amount of dynamically linked comps in PrPro project you can enjoy the best of both worlds, instantly switching between a DI and dynamically linked comp back and forth with no needs to replace anything in PrPro timeline. Test on your own with which amount of dynamically linked comps setting DIs as proxies still work. For my rig test 30 min sequence built out of 935 dynamically linked comps, which are just source footages in their own comps, hence, the equivalent to rendered DIs set to proxies, takes around 27 hours to render, while 30 min sequence built out of the same 935 source footages renders in real time.

  • Used Dynamic Link to import a sequence, Can't do anything with it

I have used Dynamic Link in Encore CS5 to bring in a sequence from Premiere Pro CS5.  The sequence shows up in the Encore "project" panel.  When I try to bring the sequence into a timeline Encore does not let me.  I drag it to the timeline and I see a + sign in the timeline.  When I let go nothing appears in the timeline.  What am I doing wrong?

Figured out what I was doing wrong.

  • Encore constantly crashes using dynamic link....

Not sure what's going on here, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew what was going on. For some reason when I use dynamic link from Adobe Premiere to Encore it constantly crashes immediately.
The project is just over an hour long with loads of edits.
    Thanks

    DStrange,
Thanks for reporting that. It can solve some "DL crashes Encore" problems.
Rookie, a first step (which you may have done) is to see if Encore can be opened on its own, do basic functions (e.g. add a menu from the library etc). If yes, then look at whether it is only the one Premiere sequence, etc.
And, yes, try DStrange's solution. You don't have to add chapters to see if works. Chapters are one of the thinks that can cause issues, so a no-chapter version is a good troubleshooting step.

  • Trouble using Dynamic Link

I've imported a Premiere Pro CS5 project into AE using Dynamic Link, added titles, effects, etc., then re-imported the AE project back into Premiere so that I can do a sound edit in Sound Booth. But Premiere won't let me place the AE project onto the timeline. Also, when I try to play the video in the Source window it's jerky. Please help.

    Okay.
I first built my project in Premier Pro (PP) this way:
I opened a new project using HDV capture format. I select AVCHD>1080i>AVCHD1080i (60i) from the Sequence Presets dialog box. Under the General Tab the settings are: square pixel, 29.97 fps, with a Display Format of 30 fps drop frame time code. I use the default audio settings all the way thru my process. I then aquire footage from my Sony NX Cam (HXRNX5U) and Canon T2i cameras. Just to be sure I've got the correct settings, I drag one of the Sony Cam files and let it hover over the New Item button in the Project panel. This creates a new sequence called, in this case, Rick 001.MTS that I use to build my project. I delete the first (default) sequence, and save my PP project. I edit my footage and when it's ready for AE, I save it, close the project, and close PP.
I then opened AE and chose New Composition. I chose HDV/HDTV 720, 29.97 fps, square pixels, which became Composition 1.
Next I clicked on DL > Import PP Sequence. In the Import PP Sequence dialog box I located my project and clicked on it. In the Sequence panel on the right, I chose the file that appeared there, Rick001.MTS and then clicked Okay.
My Rick001.MTS sequence appeared in the Project Panel. Because the Rick001.MTS sequence showed a frame rate of 59.94 fps in the Project Panel, I dragged the file to the New Composition button at the bottom of the Project panel and let it hover for a moment. A new composition called Rick001.MTS then appeared in the Project panel and on the timeline. I deleted the first composition (Composition 1), saved my AE project, and began to edit my Rick001.MTS sequence.
When I was done, I resaved my AE project and closed AE.
I next opened PP again and opened a new project and chose AVCHD>1080i>AVCHD1080i (60i).
I clicked on File>Adobe DL>Import AE composition. In the Import AE Composition dialog box Project panel I selected my AE project. Then I selected the AE file in the Composition panel of the dialog box.
The composition does appear in the Project panel, but I'm unable to add the composition to the timeline. If I try to drag it to the timeline I get the circle with the slash thru it. If I double click the composition it opens in the Source panel, but it plays all jerky and nothing happens when I click on the insert or overlay button.
Whew. That was a lot of describing. I hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Melanie.

  • Please help, I cannot get play menu to work after using dynamic link.

Ok. So I sent a video from premiere pro to encore using dynamic link. Then I created a menu in encore and dragged video to play button I created for the dvd. However, when I burn the dvd, the menu is not a part of the DVD. I do not know why this happens when I use a dynamic linked video. It does not happen when I use other videos. Please help. Thanks Matt

You need to set the menu to be first play.
If you create a timeline before you add a menu, the timeline becomes first play. If you set the end action of the timeline to the menu, it will eventually get there, but that does not appear to be what you want.

  • When I use dynamic link how do I continue using it after closing and reopening a project?

    Hi
    Im very new to AF
I cant seem to find the answer to this in any tutorials.
When I using dynamic link, how do I continue using it after closing and reopening a perm pro project?
    Thanks
    Philip

    Hi Kevin
Thank you very much for such a quick reply.
I actually figured it out. As usual it was fairly obvious solution.
I opened both project at the same time.
Thanks again and sorry for waisting your time.

  • How to send Video from Premiere to Encore via Dynamic Link

Hi there.  So I have the adobe suite for students, and I have a project in Premiere Pro, that I would like to make into a DVD.  I have exported before with MPEG-2 DVD, but that takes a lot of time and energy, and I don't think the export is as good as it could be (quality-wise).  So I would like to use Dynamic Link between Premiere and Encore, but when I go to File-Adobe Dynamic Link- the Dynamic link option is greyed out and I can't click on it which would let me choose "Send to Encore".  How can I make this option not greyed out and send it to Encore?  Thank you so much for your time!

As the source is HD, then the output should be 16:9 widescreen, but you listed it as 4:3.
In AME, choose "MPEG-2 DVD" and then "NTSC DV Wide Progressive" preset.
Besides bitrate, generally don't touch other sliders unless you are experienced, use defaults.
You CAN use the "Max Render Quality" checkbox at the bottom, as that helps with the downscale quality.
While DVDs can theoretically handle a max data rate of roughly 10Mbps (video and audio together), not a good idea to push that limit - as mentioned previously, some players may choke on playback with burned media. Most users have stick to a maximum of 7 or 8 for the video encoding, and then use Dolby audio (Encore will automatically transcode PCM to Dolby).
For longer videos over an hour, you may need to lower the bitrate to fit the material on the DVD. 560/minutes = bitrate works pretty well, just round down a little for safety margin. Example: 560/120=4.66 so use 4.5 average and good to go!

  • Warp Stabilizer error when using dynamic link

    Hey guys,
So I'm very new to video editing, and not surprisingly, I'm running into problems.  I'm trying to use dynamic link to allow me to Warp Stabilize and color correct video clips in a Premiere Pro project.  When I try to apply the Warp Stabilizer (through dynamic link) in After Effects, I get this error message:
After Effects error: Stabilization analysis doesn't work with Collapse Transformations (514)
    (25 :: 101)
I read the only other thread on this which linked to the following page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WS064964FC-424C-4e5a-A5C3-2160B3DFBCA4a.html
Unfortunately, that didn't help me much.  Maybe the answer is in there somewhere, but if so, its way over my head.  Can anyone give me a simple explanation of why this doesn't work?  I feel like it should be a simple solution so I don't have to go through the process of importing into AE, render, export, import to Premeire Pro, and replace the clip there, blah blah.  This is what dynamic link is for, right??  Thanks for any advice you guys have!

Not sure I properly understand you...
As for me, the solution is in AE warning message - just disable Collapse Transformations switch in your AE precomp...

  • Encore CS4 freezes when using dynamic link and blu-ray settings

I am using dynamic link to send a Premiere project to Encor using blu-ray for video and dolby digital for audio.  The project gets loaded correctly.  When I go to the build tab, I see the format is DVD.  I can create a project using DVD as the format output to a DVD folder.  When I select blu-ray as the format, Encore freezes.  I want to save everything as blu-ray format so that if and when I get a blu-ray burner, I can just burn the folder layout to blu-ray disc.  Is there a fix for this so that I can select blu-ray as the format?

    Worked for me!
    Thanks for the updates.

  • Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.
    Best Regards!
    Irfan

    Irfan,
If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
    Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

  • Speedgrade erratic cursor bug using dynamic link from PP

I'm on the latest version of CC (2014) running two subscriptions (one for work and one for freelance projects) both have developed an erratic cursor fault. Both are running Windows 7 (64 Bit) with pretty powerful machines. My process to get the fault is as follows:
Working on a PP timeline - use direct link to speedgrade - work up some clips using the sliders and colour wheels - about 5-10 mins into using speedgrade my cursor begins to act erratically. The cursor will jump off a colour wheel / slider and change values at will. I have to shut down and restart to get the software back again. As this is happening across two machines, completely separate to each other I'm a bit worried this isn't just a one off.
I have reported this to Adobe via the bug page but has anyone else had this issue?
    Cheers,

The file that just transcoded? Or only if I make a change?
That's not an error; it's just an advisory that the length of your video and/or audio streams has been trimmed, or the location of your chapter points have been adjusted.  If the transcoded version behaves like you want on a burned disc, then you can safely ignore the message.
The transcode is safe until you make a change, or do something else major like moving folders and assets around.
