Adjustment Layer Does Not Adjust Layers

When adding an adjustment layer to a composition in After Effects I am able to see the purple outline of the adjustment layer in the Composition. I am able to change it's size and rotation by changing the Transform options, but the video on the two layers beneath the adjustment layer does not change.
I have been searching google and the forums high and low. I have had a chat with Adobe help. (who sent me a link on Adjustment Layers in Premiere Pro - I am using After Effects)
Any ideas?

You can apply a transform effect to the adjustment layer and it will move the layers below. Effect>Distort>Transform
You just need to understand what an adjustment layer does. It basically works on a composite of the layers below it and then renders over top. For example, if you like the dreamy look on footage, create an adjustment layer, apply a fast blur and set the blur to a reasonably high number, set the layer transfer mode to screen and lower the opacity. Note how it works. It doesn't change the opacity or blending mode of the layers below, it just effects how the adjustment layer (which is blurring a composite of the layers below) blends with those layers.

Hi All,
I add a Text layer and then add my custom fill effect to it. Then I call AdvItemSuite1()->PF_ForceRerender(in_data, &(params[0]->u.ld)) from AEGP for all the layers. But only for Text layer, AE pops up a dialog displaying the following error :

Why is this happening? What other call can I use to rerender all the layers?

Command-clicking a layer does not select it in the Layer panel

In earler version of PS, command clicking a layer in the artboard would select the layer in the layer pallet so it could be manipulated. This does not seem to be the case in CS6 (I'm getting the highest level group selected)

Command key brings up the move tool. And you have different settings for auto-select in CS6 than in your previous version.
Go check the settings for the move tool.

Precomposed layer does not recognise opacity setting (bug)

I have a very simple precomposed layer comprising a single text layer with a drop shadow (layer style). However, it does not recognise the opacity setting in the main layer, even when set to 0% and the playhead is not even on the layer. If I change the opacity in the precomposed layer I can see it coming through to the main layer, but changing the opacity in the main layer does nothing.
I have reported this to Adobe as a bug, anyone have any other ideas?

There is a fix. Apply a layer style to your pre-comp, then turn off the any styles. CR will now evaluate layer styles in your source comp and render them in the proper order.
Why does that work? You have to understand how CR works. When you turn on Continuous Rasterization the layer type is identified before any effects or transformations take place. This is why you can scale a vector layer without problems if CR is turned on. This explains why a 3D pre-comp that contains a 2D layer will be rendered as a 2D layer.
When you apply a Layer Style you are changing the layer type in the same way you change a layer type from 2D to 3D. If you want to have transformations applied to the layer style in the source file you need to change the layer type of the pre-comp layer to Layer Styles.

Keys and Join description at physical layer does not reflect in BI Answer?

While creating a RPD , the description about keys and join information using
description and hint property which we define at physical layer, those informations do not reflect BI Answer when i query to metadata dictionary.
Any ideas in this regard?

Here i give little bit more description what i did.
(1) I created a RPD and gave some description about Foreign Keys and using hint a gave some description about Physical joins.
(2) After then using utilities I generated the Metadata Dictionary.
(3) Now after restarting of services when i query to Metadata Dictionary using BI Answer , i am not able to see those descriptions. Rest of the information like table level and column level descriptions i am able to see.
Is there any way to get these descriptions or metadata dictionary does not keep descriptions for keys and joins?
Any ideas in this regard??

Fireworks does not export layers to files

I'm trying to do a very simple task in Fireworks and for some reason it will not work. I have a document with one Page and one State and 30 Layers. All I need to to do is export each Layer to a File. According to Adobe's own documentation all I should need to do is select Export > Layers to Files. However, no matter how many times I try this all it does is export the first layer. This is one of the most simple task imaginable and yet it doesn't work, which I find unacceptable for a piece of software that costs as much as Fireworks does. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some secrect undocumented trick I'm not aware of?
Any help would be appreciated. My company is ready to purchase 50 copies of Fireworks for our UX team, but if this is how the app behaves I'm going to recommend going with another program that works as advertised.

I have multiple layers. I made the mistake you're referring to when I first started using Fireworks so that was the first thing I checked. I noticed some other things in FW acting wonky, so I installed the latest update and rebooted my machine and everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the quick reply.

Make it so "Step Backward" does NOT change layers

Just migrated from CS to CS4. The one change that is KILLING my productivity is Adobe's decision to make "Step Backward" also revert to the prior layer. Previously, I could (when drawing with a brush on my tablet) just click "Step Backward" if I messed up a brushstroke, and give it another try. Now, if it's my first stroke in that layer, I often find myself 5 minutes later having spent all this time drawing in the wrong layer, because PS was "helpful" and not only undid my action (brushstroke), but ALSO undid my layer change!
Here's a simple solution for your programmers: Record layer changes as a separate step in History. That way, when I go into a different layer, draw, and then Step Backward, it undoes my brushstroke but NOT my layer change; a SECOND Step Backward would be necessary for that.
It seems what you're doing now is recording layer changes in the History in the one direction but not the other. Please make this consistent.

Also, note you need to copy the script in the Photoshop/Presets/Scripts folder for it to show in the Scripts menu. Once it's there, you can assign any keyboard shortcut to it - CTRL+Z of course

Layers Panel Does not Show Layers

Using Illustrator CS6 on Mac OS Yosemite. In the layers panel, it only says the number of layers I have (e.g. "2 Layers"), but will not show me the layers. I have tried everything I can in the Panel Options and it will not show any of these columns: A. Visibility column B. Edit column C. Target column D. Selection column

I assumed you had just upgraded the OS and thought the (three step) reinstallation was missing. Otherwise, I should have suggested the full list of things to try in case of such strangenesses, see below.
As you can see, the list starts with some easy ones, including the one you used. Sometimes, a corruption may arise, seemingly out of nothing, and in the luckiest cases it is temporary enough to cure easily.
You may remember the list if something similar happens again.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

XMPMetaObj in layer does not go away

When I create an XMPMetaObj from a layer, I can then add properties and values as metadata to the layer.
But then, after I have done that, if I try to clean the layer from all written metadata, it seems to be impossible to get rid entirely of the XMPMetaObj.
By "entirely" I mean to get a "null" value when you try to read the rawData from the layer. This statement:
var xmp = new XMPMeta(app.activeDocument.activeLayer.xmpMetadata.rawData);
If you try it in a, how can I say, "virgin" layer, a layer that has never had any metadata written to it, you will get a "null" value.
Then you write some metadata to this layer, some properties and values, using some Namespace.
Then, if you remove ALL properties and values from all Namespaces [ instruction XMPUtils.removeProperties(xmp, "", "", XMPConst.REMOVE_ALL_PROPERTIES); ], after that if you try to open the XMPMetaObj from that layer, you will not get a "null" anymore. You will get a totally empty XMPMetaObj (dumpObject() returns nothing!) but it is still not a "null" anymore.
Is there a way to remove what it is that needs to be removed from the layer so that you get a "null" again when trying to read its XMPMetaObj? In other words, is there a way to make a layer that had metadata written to it be back to its "as new" state?

Is there any number next to Folder name (for example, Inbox (2))?
When the issue occurs, if you click between different folder names, can the icon disappear?
To isolate the fault, please also test the following scenario:
1. Temp disable the mobile device and test between Outlook and OWA.

Adjustment layers not working in CS4

I just installed Photoshop CS4 and I can create an adjustment layer, but the editing box for that particular adjustment layer does not come up. It works just fine in CS3 on the same computer. I have a G5 (non Intel). Any ideas why this is not working?

Look at the Adjustments Panel.. new in CS4. Window > Adjustments
There are no dialog boxes anymore.

Background layer thumbnail not appearing

When I open an image in photoshop (from camera raw), the image appears in the center screen, but in the "Layers" panel, the thumbnail in the background layer does not show the image. Instead, it shows an icon that appears to be the "brush tool" inside a square. I cannot change it to the opened image, very frustrating and, probably, very simple, but I cannot find the solution. Thanks for the screenshots, now I'm think I see what's going on.
So if I understand correctly, you open an raw image from Adobe Camera Raw and you expect to see a thumbnail in the Layers panel. Normally that's how it works for me.
The brush icon that you see in the Layers panel means that layer thumbnails are turned off. Here's how to turn them on in your Mac:
In the Layers Panel Control-click the blank space under the first layer and choose Small, Medium, or Large thumbnails from the context menu that appears.
You should then have a thumbnail of your opened file.

What does Paste Remembers Layers exactly do?

I am studying the advanced layer operations with Illustrator CIB.
I played with Paste Remembers Layers but only found out when it is unchecked, the layers copied from another file are pasted into the active layer; no other difference.
Could someone please describe for me what Paste Remembers Layers is actually supposed to do?
I've read other posts concerning the option, but I'm still not clear.

I don’t think it’s a misnomer, it remembers the name of the layer to paste into.
Suppose you copy something from a layer named “A” and paste it into a another document.
It will create a new layer with the name “A” if such a layer does not exist
It will paste it into a layer with the name “A” if such a layer exists.

Does Aperture have layers, such as Photoshop. I have to make one photo out of two photo's.

Does Aperture have layers like in Photoshop? I have to make 1 photo out of two. This is an assignment for the Fotovakschool.

As Alan pointed out Aperture does not do layers. While the plugin he pointed to seems interesting (had never seen it before) it is on the pricey side for what it does.
You could use either GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program which is free or else Pixelmator from the Mac App Store for $30, as Apertures external editor. In either case you'll get a app that will do more for you then just layers.

Adjustment layers effects not applying when flattening image or merging layers CS6

So about a week ago I noticed something changed with my adjustment layers. In an image I would make a selection and start using adjustment layers to edit that selection, and then once I was finished, I would merge the adjustment layers together so that I could erase outside areas where the effect was not intended. However, whenever I merged the layers, the effects would go away and the thumbnail preview by the layer title would become blank (gray and white transparent) as if there was not anything on the layer. I messed around and I reset Photoshop, and then I thought the layers were fixed. They were somewhat fixed, except I've started having trouble again. Now I'm having difficulty editing this one image i'm on. It's a portrait with a photoshop-created red mask going around eyes, and I used the dissolve layer effect on the original mask creation which was black at first. Then I selected that selection and made more layers editing the hue, saturation, brightness/contrast, and exposure.
I tried to save the image as a jpeg, and the effects were messed up. The hue and all other adjustment layers seemingly applied, except the dissolve effect does not show up at all. So I tried to fix it manually. I flattened the image first with intention to then save it as a jpeg, but as soon as I flattened the image, again the dissolve effect was not applied. Then I tried to merge the layers, and yet again, the dissolve effect was not showing up. It shows up fine in PSD form, something's wrong with the conversion process. Please don't be mean to me. I'm not great at photoshop, I'm not saying that I am or claiming to be a pro or anything I just want help from people who actually get it. I have CS6 and use a Macbook Pro.

I stopped even trying to read this append. For is seems very complex and overwhelmed my little mind. Please consider including some screen captures showing your Photoshop window with your document that your writing about open and the layer palette shows the structure of the document. For me examples and screen capture of the steps involves involved would be very helpful.
