Admin Accnt Lacks Full Permissions

In the past week my Admin acount has lost permissions in a few operations. I must mention that I have 2 admin accounts, the account created during installation process and an admin account created with the first account (this is the one I am having trouble with). I use CS3 Bridge and I can't delete files from within this application (a message telling me I do not have sufficient permissions) and the other problem is that I cannot install software (same message)
Anyone have any ideas ??
Thanks

All admin accounts have equal power. If one is failing then you may want to copy any documents and files created under that account to /Users/Shared, delete the failed admin account using your other admin account and then recreate that account with admin privileges. You can then copy the files back to the new account. (You may have to correct permissions on the files to let the "new" admin use them.)
Keep in mind that I haven't provided any instructions for keeping personal settings, bookmarks, etc., for that admin account but you really shouldn't be using that account for anything more than just machine administration.
Hope this helps!

  • InDesign CC Start-up Error: "...lack sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders"

    InDesign CC
Having successfully installed many CC apps on my Mac Pro Desktop, I proceeded to do the same on my laptop. However, after two attempts at uninstalling and re-downloading both InDesign CC and the Creative Cloud Desktop. When starting up InDesign, I repeatedly get this error message: "Error: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you lack sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign." and can go no further.
I can find no instruction on how to do this, or reference to anyone else getting this error.

I've seen this stock suggestion posted on many discussions. I've solved the problem with LiveChat with Adobe Support:
Mohammed: As I understand you are not able to launch CC apps since it is giving error "Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you lack sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders". Is that correct?
    Paul: Yes
Mohammed: Please open a Finder window. Choose Go > Go To Folder. Type ~/library and you will get Preferences folder.
    Paul: In Library now
Mohammed: Are you able to find preferences folder?
    Paul: yes
Mohammed: Control-click the folder and choose Get Info.
Mohammed: Expand the Sharing & Permissions section.
Mohammed: Click the lock icon in the lower-right corner. Enter your administrator user name and password when prompted, and then click OK.
    Paul: done
Mohammed: Please click on + icon and add the Admin and all users showing.
    Paul: done
Mohammed: Set permission for all users and admin as read/write
Mohammed: Click the Gear icon, and select Apply to Enclosed Item
Paul: to each of the individual users and groups?
    Paul: one at a time?
    Paul: I've done it.
Mohammed: Please open a Finder window. Choose Go > Go To Folder. Type ~/library/Application support and give full permission to Adobe folder.
Paul: That's completed... I've added all the users and groups, given each 'Read and Write" and extended the permissions to all enclosed items.
Mohammed: Now please open a Finder window. Choose Go > Go To Folder. Type /library/Application support and give full permission to Adobe folder.
Paul: OK, I understand... I am proceeding with your instruction.
    Mohammed: Thank you.
    Paul: I'm finished.
Mohammed: Please close all Adobe Applications and then launch InDesign CC and let me know the result.
Paul: OK... looking good so far Mohammed... fingers crossed!
    Paul: Thanks Mohammed... it's launched!
Mohammed: Excellent, I am so happy to hear this from you.
Mohammed: I certainly appreciate your patience in this process.
    Paul: And I yours.

  • Cannot save from lack of permissions

None of my work processing programs...bean, scrivener, textedit....can save files anymore.
the error say cannot save due to lack of permissions to write file.
I've tried reinstalling the programs, repairing disk permissions, rebooting without avail.
Existing files save fine and I can add new data but I can't make new file saves.

for desktop :originally it was user with read/write and everyone with no access
    now i changed it to
admin and everyone with read/write but still no change.....
Your Desktop permissions were correct to begin with, but the change probably did no harm.
for HD it is now user/everyone/admin read/write
Do you mean you changed this to make your username the owner? It's a mistake to change the ownership or permissions of a startup disk.
The permissions on a startup disk should be
    system - Read and Write
    admin - Read and Write
    everyone - Read only
If you change the ownership or permissions of a startup HD it could result in the system being unable to boot. Even worse, if you use the "Apply to enclosed Items" feature on any system-created folder you could irreversibly damage the OS. In general, changing the permissions on anything outside your home folder without knowing exactly what you are doing can make a bad situation worse.
At this point I would again Repair Permissions with Disk Utility. Check and report the HD permissions again after doing this.
    What is your backup situation?

  • Exchange Admin Cannot View Full Room Calendar Permissions

We are a brand new Exchange 2010 SP3 (14.3 build 123.4) shop with Outlook 2010 (14.0.6112.5000), so no older versions of Exchange or Outlook exist in our environment.  I have full Exchange administration access to the system and Full Access to
    all room calendars.
If I open a room calendar in Outlook and view the Properties, Permissions the Default access only shows two Read options available: None and Full Details. Whereas if another Admin views the permissions it shows all four options.
So if Admin #2 views the room the Default access will show it has access to Free/Busy time, subject and location, but when I view the same room it shows Default as None since the other options are not available to me. So I am not getting a clear indication
of the real Default access nor can I set the correct access.  If I view it in PowerShell I can see the correct access.  I have cleared my Outlook cache and I am set in non-cached mode and I have even rebuilt my profile, and yet I still only see the
two options rather than all four. I can see all four options if I look at the permission of my own Outlook calendar, but if I look at any other calendar, person or room.  Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

    Hi,
According to your description, we understand that you have Full Access permission to all room calendars folder. If the Default calendar permission is set to Free/Busy time, you cannot view the exact Default permission. Instead, it shows None. It is normal
    phenomenon.
Based on my test, if the Default access permission of room calendar is set to reviewer or higher permission, you can view the
    corresponding permission in your Outlook.
I think the reason why Admin #2 can view the real default permission of room calendar is that Admin #2 may have full access permission to the room mailbox instead of room calendar. In other words, you can try to add full access permission to the room mailbox
for yourself to check whether the issue persists:
Add-MailboxPermission –Identity RoomA –User “Brit Whittington” –AccessRights FullAccess

  • Apply to enclosed items Read & Write permissions on admin accnt not holding

    Hi,
I have been having nightmares with Mac Office saying database was not present and firefox giving me error 228.
After much to and froing i realised that my main admin user account had read and write permissions but they weren't applied to enclosed items (well not all of them). Once applied and without rebooting, everything worked fine again.
However, when rebooting same issues arose. When re applying permissions to enclosed items things work again just fine.
Any idea what is wrong? How can I make these permissions hold permanently or what sort of script or anything would make them not hold?

never use "apply to enclosed items" on ANY system created folders. that includes your home directory, your desktop folder, Applications folder etc. use it ONLY on folders you make yourself.
system created folders often have hidden ACLs and using "apply to enclosed items" will propagate those ACLs to everything inside, usually with highly unpleasant results. In particular, you home folder has hidden "everyone deny delete" ACLs. using "apply to enclosed items" on it will force you to authenticate any time you want to modify anything inside your home folder.
to fix permissions and acls on your home directory use this link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1334?viewlocale=en_US
However, the ACL resetting utility mentioned in the link is buggy and changes the groups on anything it touches in your home directory to wheel (to which you don't even belong). therefore, after following the instructions in that link run the following terminal command (copy and paste please)
    chgrp -R `id -gn` ~

  • Disable Inheritance on folder - Full permissions unable to rename

I've got a document library with a couple folders inside. One of the folders I've disabled the inheritance of permission and provided a test user full control of the folder. They can add/delete files inside the folder but they're not able to rename the
folder itself, it tells them access is denied. Is this by design? Any way around it?

    Hi,
Still not able to reproduce so you need to check below points:
    1. Check event viewer in case any log entry is there:
    2. Also make below changes in web app your web.config file:
Call stack =true and customerror mode = "Off
Let us know if you find anything there
Hemendra: "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"
Whenever you see a reply and if you think is helpful, click "Vote As Helpful"! And whenever you see a reply
being an answer to the question of the thread, click "Mark As Answer
Changed both items in the web.config, performed the action again and got access denied. Don't see anything different in the ULS and don't see anything in the event viewer...
You cant duplicate this? Are you attempting it as a farm/site admin? I've got just a regular user (User1) that I assigned full control to a doc library... 3 folders (A,B,C) inside the doc library. Disabled permissions inheritance on folder A and provided
User1 full control. Folder B and C are left alone.
User1 can modify contents inside of Folder A,B and C. Can add and deleted folders, other than A. It can rename the folders B and C, but get access denied on folder A.

  • Firefox is crashing or freezing excessively. I tried to upgrade to 3.6.12 but was told I lack necessary permissions. Is there a solution to make the program stable?

I had a pop up that suggested updating Adobe flash (which I did) but then I lost the chance to take the next suggested step to stabilize Firefox. I'm using a Mac Mini G4 that I bought from a friend. I get Apple updates, but Mozilla says I lack permission for the Firefox upgrade.

You can try to repair the disk permissions for the Firefox application files and folders, but it is easier to do trash the current version and download and install a full copy of the new version.
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Admin user removed from Permissions

After upgrading my wiki server to 10.6.4 I found the admin user was no longer part of the Administrative permissions for each users wiki. I check their metadata.plist file and sure enough the admin user ( and other users ) was missing from the admin access. After adding the admin back in and restarting the web service everything worked for that one wiki but I have over 1100 wikis. Anyone else run into this issue?

    Hi,
To block IE from connecting to internet, you can create a deny outbound rule in Windows Firewall.
Locate to Advanced settings in Windows Firewall.
From the left pane, click Outbound Rules.
Click Action, select New Rule option, and then perform step by step.
Also you can set up a dummy proxy server.
    Go to Tools> Internet Options>
    Connections> LAN Settings.
Uncheck “Automatically detect settings” and select the option to use a proxy server.
Set the address to a dummy IP (127.0.0.1) followed by port 80.

  • Wind Vista SP2. iTunes 10.6.3.25. I'm trying to Consildate my Music Library on this PC, and get the error: "Copying files failed, because you don't have permission to change your iTunes Media folder or a folder within it."  My admin user has Full Control

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I did what you suggested on all three folders: The main Music folder on the Mac hard disk, on the iTunes folder on the external 160GB Hard drive which contains the current media content and on the new 2TB hard disk on which I created a new media folder. I selected permission for myself which were already read+write and chose the apply to enclosed items on all three folders. I then changed the permission for others to read+write and applied to enclose items also an all three folders.
    But it didn't solve anything.
Here's what happens: I choose the new directory in iTunes preferences (the media folder on the 2TB disk) I then go to File > Library > Organize Library and then choose Consolidate files. A window pops up and says copying "filename" with a progression bar underneath but the filename never changes. Instead the beachball appears when the mouse pointer hoovers over iTunes. Upon pressing the iTunes icon in the Dock it says that iTunes is not responding. At this point there's 2 different ways:
A - If I then force quit iTunes the iTunes window disappears but the application does not close. When I want to eject the 2TB disk it says it's being used by another application. Only when I cut the power to the 2TB disk does iTunes fully close. A window then pops up and says that the drive was not put away properly etc.
B - if I cut the power to the drive without force quitting iTunes, a window appears with the said: "Copying failed because you don't have permissions to change iTunes media folders etc." iTunes remains open and fully functional.

  • Single user mode, Lost Admin Account, and Disk Permissions

Okay, so I have quite a few issues here. I will start from the beginning.
About a week ago, I tried to install some updates and I could not get the Admin account to work. I went to the users profile and noticed my Admin account was not there. Did a quick search and found Apple's outline of how to fix this via the Operational DVD and the root user. Tried this and it would never work, because as soon as I restarted the computer or changed screens it switched back to a standard account.
Next up, I went into the terminal to check the Admin User group. As it turns out it is not there. So I find a discussion on there that outlines how to rebuild this in single user mode and the Unix prompt. So, I print it off and try to restart in single user mode. After trying two different keyboards and a sum total of 8 to 10 times, I can't restart in single user mode to get to the Unix prompt.
One last thing, last night I went into the Disk Utility on the start-up DVD. I wanted to check the Repair Permission log and I got the following:
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library/Preferences"
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library/"
ACL found but not expected on "Network"
    Thoughts?
    Thanks for your help!
    tpp

first, the ACL messages can be ignored. if you can't get to single user mode you can't fix your admin group. the only reasons that I know why you wouldn't be able to do that is
    1. a defective keyboard
    2. you have a firmware password set. have you? you'd have to turn it off before you can get to single user mode.
lastly when you restart in single user mode make sure you press command+s right after you hear the chime. do not press it too early or too late. lastly, I'm not sure which instructions you've found to fix the admin group but I have them in this thread

  • **URGENT : signed applet still doesn't get full permissions**

I've bought a Microsoft Authenticode certificate with which I signed a CAB file containing my class files...
On a client machine, the browser detects security stuff but even when one acknowledges, the applet still doesn't get the permission, for instance, to open a directory for reading... a SecurityException is thrown as if the applet was not signed.
Have I forgotten something or did another one wrong ?? Must I set the Security Manager to null ????
It's really urgent, so please reply asap !!!
    Thanks,
    Rgis Kuckaertz

Just signing the applet doesn't give it any permissions. You have to assert whatever permissions you want. For example:
import com.ms.security.*; // need dummy classes to compile for non-MS
// check if we are in the MS JVM
    if (Class.forName("com.ms.security.PolicyEngine") != null)
        // Assert all Permissions
        PolicyEngine.assertPermission(PermissionID.SYSTEM);
    catch (Throwable cnfe)
        System.out.println("Microsoft JVM permissions not asserted.");
        System.out.println(cnfe.getMessage());
    }

Hi AJ, Well, at least you were able to solve the issue. I don't know either why you weren't able to Install the first time either. With restrictions on the computers, it is hard to tell. Glad that worked for you. Might be something for others to try when they have that problem.

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.

  • Clients no longer have full permissions

    Hi all
since moving my old two xsan clients onto new macpros when i log onto the server the san volume appears but the clients account is very restrictive.  I cant even change the backround desktop pattern..
I removed and re-added the accounts via the server (xsan admin) and using the same logon details was able to re-mount the volume onto both of the new macs.  The only difference is that everytime you log in its as if its the first time you have connected to the san. All of your settings (dock, apps etc.. ) are lost.
The OD accounts that have been created are very restricted even though I have not changed anything on the server.  Do i need to remove and re-add in new accounts or is there something i ca=n do within the workgroup manager?

removed client accounts from OD and re-created new ones.  re-connected to new accounts... alls well
