  • New admin for java web server

    Hi,
    i just installed Sun Java System Web Server 7.0. besides intsalling it, i don't know how to use it.
    I am looking to add some files so users can view them. how do i go about doing that? I have no clue?
    I don't know how to use it just yet but can follow instructions rather well.
    i am a unix admin.
    thanks
    ~jv

    Ok.. it depends what type of content do you want to add.
    You can start by dropping html documents in your instance's document root directory, usually /sun/webserver7/https-configname/docs.
    making sure the server instance is running, hit the pages. And voila, you should be able to see it.

  • Blocking of Admin Pages on Web Server

    I have two Apache servers acting as web servers for my portal application.
    I want to block access to all the admin pages of Portal from one of them. The admin pages should be visible only from one of the servers where as the other pages should be visible on both the servers. Can you please tell how this can be done.

    Which "admin pages" are you referring to?

  • Sun One Web Server connection pool goes stale after some time

    Hi all,
    I have a few web applications running on Sun One Web Server 6.1 (SP4). I configured a connection pool via the web admin of the web server. I do not know why the connections in the connection pool are never released after some time (this happened for 3 times with a couple of months in between). I need to reboot the web server to solve this problem everytime the connection pool goes stale. I have verified that the resources are released (stream and connection are closed) with proper programming logic. Even so, I think that the connections will be timed out (the setting is 5 minutes) by the web server as a bulletproof even if the resource is not released properly as implemented in the code logic. Can anybody help on this? I have been troubled by this problem by weeks.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Setting up a web server

    Hi,
    I have four or five domains registered and now I’m paying for web hosting (not much, but…). For many months now, I’m reconsidering to set up my own web server (I have DSL connection 24/7 so…).
    One idea was to go with MS 2003 SERVER on some older PC I have, but since I’m not some expert (more or less dummy) for this things… gone down the toilet .
    Then I bought an iMac (the best investment in past few years regarding computers) and on apple.com site I saw OS X SERVER software and more I was reading this more seemed that this is something for me, for my idea to set up a server.
    Now I bought on eBay used G4 Mac Mini and I will install a OS X SERVER (please, don’t tell me that I’m trying to put a BMW engine into SMART… I know that and I hope that will somehow work… if not, there is still eBay to sell everything and there is still a toilet for my idea:-( ). However, the pages I own are not some crucial things for state security, but still I need PHP5 and MySQL (as far as I know OSX have this, right?).
    My questions are:
    To set up web server I need a DNS (like: nameserver.mydomain.com) otherwise nothing, right?
    Do I have to register somewhere my own DNS like domains and to pay annually for this (any suggestion where)?
    Hosting my other web sites (with other domains) on OSX will not be a problem. I suppose that OSX can do this?
    If I have nameserver.mydomain1.com, will be a problem to set up an email server/account for mydomain2.com or I have to set up a DNS also for this second domain (will be on same server)?
    I’m sorry, if my questions are stupid (on the other hand, someone said that there are no stupid questions, the answers can be stupid), but I’m really not familiar with this things.
    Many thanks in advance and excuse me for my English,
    M

    Faganel, did you ever find a "Leopard Server as a Web-Server - Setup for Dummies" kind of guide or article?
    If so, I'd really like answers and tips, to the same kind of questions you have.
    I don't think this is the best forum, to ask for newbie-style advice. The people here are hard-working system-admins, who does web-server setups for a living, and they really don't have time, to answer questions like ours.
    I've done dozens of Windows 2000 web-server setups at work, and the funny thing is, I could probably have helped you, had you gone with the Windows 2003 Server
    However I'm trying to get some Xserves into our server room at work, and am evaluating Leopard Server here at home, and would like to do the same thing as you - Setup a Leo web-server with dyn-dns or something like that.
    But because my knowledge is Windows, and because I've always worked with our own DNS and IP's, I'm having trouble getting my Leopard web-server here at home, to serve to the internet.
    I can get it to serve perfectly to my own sub-net, but when I try to access it from the outside, I get nothing. I've setup my DSL-router to point web-traffic to the Leopard web-servers IP, but still get nothing.
    However, I've just started, and I'm sure I'll get it to work, but some pointers would be really cool - obviously it can be done, just need to get my head around the fact, that I'm home and dealing with DSL and DSL-routers, and not the Ciscos and SonicWalls I'm used to at work
    I must say though, that Leopard Server is an amazing product, and I'm positive well need to start buying Xserves from now on at work. The time saved setting them up and administering them, is HUGE when compared to the Win2000 boxes I have to fight every day at work
    I also think Apple could make a very cool home-server, if they wanted too - I have no idea if it would sell, but Leo Server is almost so easy to setup now, that most people could get the hang of it ...
    Anyways, if you or someone else has a guide, to getting it to serve webpages behind a DSL-router with a static IP, I'd be more than grateful - I'm sure this would impress my boss enough, that I'd get a handsome budget to explore Leopard Server some more - I't just awesome from a SysAdmins point of view.

  • HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn Embedded Web Server Admin Settings

    Hello,
    I need help with my HP Laserjet Professional p1606dn. We have about 13 of these machines
    I can access the HP Embedded Web Server by putting in the IP address into a web browser.
    I have all of the printers set with a static IP address.
    I have set a password in the HP Embedded Web server so network information can not be changed.
    My problem is  the Print Info Pages section.
    Where i can just click Print to print a Print Configuration Page and Print Supplies page.
    I want to disable that feature.
    I have students getting into the Hp Embedded Web Server and are repeatedly hitting the print button and I'm getting hundreds of Print Configuration Page and or Print Supplies page.
    You do not need a password to use this functionality.
    I want to have these printers setup that if they do not know the Admin password to get into the Web Server they can not use any of the Web Server functions.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Your usb connection may have gone bad.  Try another usb port on the computer.  Just connecting the printer to a different usb port should say new hardware found.  If it does not then the port on the printer has gone bad.  All is not lost.  This model is the N model which means it also has a network interface.  You could try connecting the printer to your router or switch with a rj45 cable and after turning the printer on and it comes to ready, wait about 2 minutes and then print the same test page which should give you the network settings if it found any.  Use those settings to setup the printer as a local tcp/ip printer.

  • Admin Commands issue on Windows Web Server 2008 R2 - 64Bit

    Hi,
    I have tried exactly same process on FMS3.5 Installed on Centos and it worked perfectly.
    But not working in case of Windows Web Server 2008 R2 - 64Bit.
    Here is what i am trying to do -
    Basically i want to extract live streams list and display them in HTML as ordered list on another server them FMS.
    What i did in the case of FMS on Centos server -
    I installed Apache and PHP on this server and created a PHP file with following text in it. -
    abc.php
       $xml = simplexml_load_file('http://<fms-server-ip>:1111/admin/getLiveStreams?auser=admin&apswd=password&appInst=live','Simple XMLElement', LIBXML_NOCDATA);
    foreach($xml->children() as $child)
       foreach($child->children() as $child2)
              echo $child2 . ",";
    and in hosting server where i want to display the list i entered following code in PHP file -
    $homepage = file_get_contents('http://<fms-server-ip>/abc.php');
    echo $homepage;
    i got comma seperated values easily and everything is loading fast without any issue.
    Now problem occured with Windows Web Server 2008 R2 - 64Bit.
    I installed FMS, Apache and PHP in this server also, did evrything in the same way like in centos.
    FMS, APache and PHP files are working fine in this.
    But only problem occured when in abc.php i use
    $xml =  simplexml_load_file('http://<fms-server-ip>:1111/admin/getLiveStreams?auser=admin&apswd=password&appInst=live','Simple XMLElement',  LIBXML_NOCDATA);
    After this file do not loads and takes longer time to load and after some time a blank page appears. It works fine with a local XML file.
    i am able to see the XML file by opening it directly in browser, but somehow this is not working with   simplexml_load_file. I dont think this is PHP issue because with local XML file it works fine. May be some port issue or something else. But i am able to view XML file directly in browser from another computers as well.
    Kindly help, is there some other configurations should be changed in case of windows version. I have allowed admin commands as usual before doing all this. Ports 1111,80,1935 are also opened.
    Please guide

    Hi,
    Yes in Browser, the response is perfect. The only issue is in Calling inside in any file, i even tried Javascript's XML dom to load it, but same result, the file is just loading and never loads completely. I also tried using an SWF file with AS3 code to load XML inside as3 and send the result to any JS function.
    The output comes using trace in as3, but when it comes to browser, the same loading happends and result never loads.

  • Cannot view web server logs in Server Admin

    It has been a terrible day.
    First, the interesting part:
    I woke up to find that 25 sites that are hosted on an XServe G5 running OS X Server 10.3.9 had been defaced. As the part-time, unpaid admin of this server, it was my responsibility to track down the vulnerability in the system and restore the defaced files from backups. The hacker had replaced the index.html file for each of the sites with his own, special version, in which he proudly declared that my server had been owned. I did a Nessus scan of the server and came up with nothing. I pulled what was left of my hair out looking for every vulnerability I could come up with, and still nothing.
    I then decided to use Google to get more information about him, using the name he proudly posted on the defaced sites, and was able to get his IM address. I proceeded to have an awkwardly pleasant conversation with him, in which he declared that he has discovered a new vulnerability and decided to try it out on my machine for the challenge. He apologized, but would not reveal the vulnerability (although he hinted that it had something to do with mod_security). He also promised to leave my machine alone now ....
    (Now for the not so interesting part, and the nature of my current problem)
    Anyway, I did what I could to clean up the mess, and wound up viewing the access logs in the Console app via ARD. That led me nowhere, so I decided to call it a night and logged out of ARD. A few minutes later, I thought I would log into ServerAdmin and take another look at those logs, but alas, they could no longer be viewed through ServerAdmin! The log section is empty. I ssh'd into the machine to see if he had broken his promise and messed around some more, but the logs still existed where they had always been. I ran tail -f on them to make sure they are still being updated, and they are.
    So after all that, it seems my big problem at the moment is viewing logs in ServerAdmin. I did not make any changes to httpd.conf (outside of disabling mod_security, which commented out the appropriate LoadModule and AddModule lines). I also disabled a few other unnecessary mods earlier in the evening via ServerAdmin, but I doubt that any particular mod controls whether or not I can view log files in ServerAdmin.
    I apologize for the length of this post, but it has been quite a day. If anyone can provide any clues as to either the location of error logs for the ServerAdmin app or any sort of known resolution to this issue, I would name my first born after you.
    Thanks.

    What purpose you will solve by loading the web server logs into the database? I will not advice it. It will be much easier for you to manage these logs at file system level as well monitor these for any issues, rather than loading it into database and then running sone database job to dig into those logs for any errors. Loading logs into database will help if you need to keep them for long time (More than 1 Year time frame or for regulatory purpose), otherwise it is better for logs to keep it on file system and just get regular backups of these logs into tape.
    My 2 cents
    RegardsOverall, I agree but I don't understand your comment about "Loading logs into database will help if you need to keep them for long time". Even if needed for regulatory reasons, one can manage them quite nicely outside of the database.
    Also to expand on this a bit for the OP .... if the need arose to use SQL to mine the logs for information that would be hard to get using the search feature of a simple text editor, one could always define an external table on an as-needed basis.

  • Web Server 7 Admin Server and Self-Signed certificate

    Is it possible to create and install a self-signed certificate for the administration server in Sun Web Server 7. The default installation comes with a self-signed certificate but we would like to install our own certificate and not the certificate issued by "admin-ca-cert"

    As far as I know its not a problem. You can install your own certificate. Make sure that the certificate nick name is changed accordingly in "server-cert-nickname" in server.xml section as shown below :
    <http-listener>
    <name>admin-ssl-port</name>
    <port>2224</port>
    <server-name>alamanac.india.sun.com</server-name>
    <default-virtual-server-name>admin-server</default-virtual-server-name>
    <ssl>
    <server-cert-nickname>Admin-Server-Cert</server-cert-nickname>
    </ssl>
    </http-listener>

  • Sun one web server 6.0 admin instance

    Hi,
    After installing Sun one web server 6.0 sp6 on HP-UX, the admin server instance seems to work fine (i.e. I can bring up the admin web page). However, I cannot bring up web page from other web server instance. it gives me this error "the page cannot be displayed". Am I supposed to get a default webpage from this web server? How can I tell if this web server is working properly? Please help.

    Hi,
    thanks for your prompt reply Joe. No, I don't get anything in the access log but I got some error messages in error log. It looks like the error indicates the web server crashed. Please help. I've been struggling to get this web server running and it's going nowhere.

  • In 4.15 admin server web interface, can account information app be run on web server instead of admin server?

    Hello,
    Running winnt 4.0, messaging 4.x, directory 4.x and admin 4.x. Already moved the netscape gateway to a web server instead of admin server, but also need to move the user mgt application. This is the first link listed when you go to the admin server url in the browser. I have set up <netscape root>/bin/user/admin/bin as cgi directory and set up /bin/user/admin as additional docs directory, but frames in the application just hang.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

    Hi Peter, Can you define what you mean by the
    "User mgt Application"? Do you mean moving the entire
    Administration Server to a Web Server?
    If that is the case, then I do not believe that this is possible. The Administration Server itself is a proprietary architecture. The DSGW was setup from 4.0 onwards to be able to run on an external Webserver, to improve performance, but I do not believe that the Admin Server itself can be moved over.
    Do you have a lot of people logging in through the Console itself? As you have already moved the DSGW component over to a sepeate sever, I'm trying to understand the need to move the Entire Admin Server over.

  • How do I use Sun Web Server 7.0u1 reverse proxy to change public URLs?

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)
    for hosting some of the public resource and reverse-proxying other parts
    of the URI namespace from other backend servers (content, application
    and other types of servers).
    So far every type of backend server served a unique part of the namespace
    and there was no collision of names, and the backend resources were
    published in a one-to-one manner. That is, a backend resource like, say,
    http://appserver:8080/content/page.html would be published in the internet
    as http://www.publicsite.com/content/page.html
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.
    Another quest, possibly related in solution, was to make a tidy url for the
    first page the user opens of the site. That is, in the current solution when
    a visitor types the url "www.publicsite.com" in his or her browser, our web
    server returns an HTTP-302 redirect to the actual first page URL, so the
    browser sends a second request (and changes the URL in its location bar).
    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change
    right upon first rendering the page. They want the root page to be rendered
    instantly i the first HTTP request.
    So far I found that I can't solve these problems. I believe these problems
    share a solution because it relies on ability to control the actual URI strings
    requested by Sun Web Server from backend servers.
    Some details follow, now:
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't
    yet manage to override this value while processing a request, not even if
    I "restart" a request. Turning the error log up to "finest" I see that even
    when making the "service-passthrough" operation, the Sun Web Server
    still remembers that the request was for "/test" (in my test case below);
    it does indeed ask the backend server for an URI "/test" and that fails.
    [04/Mar/2009:21:45:34] finest (25095) www.publicsite.com: for host xx.xx.xx.83
    trying to GET /content/MainPage.html while trying to GET /test, func_exec reports:
    fn="service-passthrough" rewrite-host="true" rewrite-location="true"
    servers="http://10.16.2.127:8080" Directive="Service" DaemonPool="2b1348"
    returned 0 (REQ_PROCEED)My obj.conf file currently has simple clauses like this:
    # this causes /content/* to be taken from another (backend) server
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="/content" name="content-test" nostat="/content"
    # this causes requests to site root to be HTTP-redirected to a certain page URI
    <If $uri =~ '^/$'>
        NameTrans fn="redirect"
            url="http://www.publicsite.com/content/MainPage.html"
    </If>
    <Object name="content-test">
    ### This maps http://public/content/* to http://10.16.2.127:8080/content/*
    ### Somehow the desired solution should instead map http://public/data/* to http://10.16.2.127:8080/content/*
        Service fn="service-passthrough" rewrite-host="true" rewrite-location="true" servers="http://10.16.2.127:8080"
        Service fn="set-variable" set-srvhdrs="host=www.publicsite.com:80"
    </Object>
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
        NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"or desperately trying to set the new request uri like this:
        Service fn="set-variable"  uri="/magnoliaPublic/Main.html"Thanks for any ideas (including a statement whether this can be done at all
    in some version of Sun Web Server 7.0 or its opensourced siblings) ;)
    //Jim

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)please plan on installing the latest service pack - 7.0 Update 4. these updates addresses potentially critical bug fixes.
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.> now, if all the resources are under say /data, then how will you know which pages need to be sent to which back end resources. i guess, you probably meant to check for /data/page.html should go to <back-end>/content/page.html
    yes, you could do something like
    - edit your corresponding obj.conf (<hostname>-obj.conf or obj.conf depending on your configuration)
    <Object name=¨default¨>
    <If $uri = ¨/page/¨>
    #move this nametrans SAF (for map directive - which is for reverse proxy within <if> clause)
    NameTrans.. fn=map
    </If
    </Object>
    and you could do https-<hostname>/bin/reconfig (dynamic reconfiguration) to check out if this is what you wanted. also, you might want to move config/server.xml <log-level> to finest and do your configuration . this way, you would get enough information on what is going on within your server logs.
    finally,when you are satisfied, you might have to run the following command to make your manual change into admin config repository.
    <install-root>/bin/wadm pull-config user=admin config=<hostname> <hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    you might want to check out this for more info on how you could use <if> else condition to handle your requirement.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdaer?a=view
    finally, you might want to refer to this doc - which explains on ws7 request processing overview. this should provide you with some pointers as to what these different directives mean
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gbysz?a=view
    >
    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change
    right upon first rendering the page. They want the root page to be rendered

    please check out the rewrite / restart SAF. this should help you.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdada?a=view
    pl. understand that - like with more web servers - ordering of directives is very important within obj.conf. so, you might want to make sure that you verify the obj.conf directive ordering is what you want it to do..
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't

    now, you are in the totally wrong direction. web server 7 includes a highly integrated reverse proxy solution compared to 6.1. unlike 6.1, you don´t have to download a separate plugin . however, you will need to manually migrate your 6.1 based reverse proxy settings into 7.0. please check out this blog link on how to set up a reverse proxy
    http://blogs.sun.com/amit/entry/setting_up_a_reverse_proxy
    feel free to post to us if you need any futher help
    you are probably better off - starting fresh
    - install ws7u4
    - use gui or CLI to create a reverse proxy and map one on one - say content
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6601/create-reverse-proxy-1?a=view
    if you don´t plan on using ws7 integrated web container (ability to process jsp/servlet), then you could disable java support as well. this should reduce your server memory footprint
    <install-root>/bin/wadm disable-java user=admin config=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm create-reverse-proxy user=admin uri-prefix=/content server=<http://your back end server/ config=<hostname> --vs=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    now, you can check out the regular express processing and <if> syntax from our docs and try it out within <https-<hostname>/config/<hostname>-obj.conf> file and restart the server. pl. note that once you disable java, ws7 admin server creates <vs>-obj.conf and you need to edit this file and not default obj.conf for your changes to be read by server.
    >
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
    NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"
    ordering is very important here... you need to do this some thing like
    <Object name=default>
    <If not $restarted>
    NameTrans fn=restart uri from=/¨ uri=/foo.
    </If>

    It looks like you may have extracted the files to C:\sp2013. Can you try installing from a mounted ISO instead? Can you also validate that this is Server 2012 and not 2012 R2?

  • Prerequisiteinstaller.exe error - unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role

    Windows Server 2012 R2 running on Hyper-V VM.  File services, App server & IIS roles installed
    SQL Server 2012 installed
    Tried:
    kb 2765260 method 1 which is kb 2771431 which ends with "not applicable to computer"
    kb 2765260 method 2 with no effect (this was power shell commands for PC's connected to the internet)
    One post suggested "aspnet_regii - enable -i" but my OS doesn't have aspnet_regii on it (not sure what that implies)
    One post suggested ServerManagerCmd.exe needed to be installed which sounds true as shown below (but where do I find this exe?)
    There are some errors in the log file,  I only included the portions where the errors are listed.  The initial lines are at the top of the log file, then I skipped to the section where the other errors were.  I can include the whole log if
    it becomes necessary.

    9:47:17 Cannot retry
    I'm presuming the first 2 errors are OK and just indicate optional startup modes for prerequisiteinstaller.exe
    The 2nd set of errors seems more serious.  I don't see ServerManagerCmd.exe on my PC that's listed in the error
    I don't understand the last error which I'm supposing triggered the listed error even though there are other errors in the log.
    Many of the existing posts don't match the configuration I'm using, and the ones that do match didn't seem to provide a usable answer.  Any help is appreciated.  Do these problems exist using Sever 2012 Standard?  I will try that, but would
    like to resolve the issue here with R2.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Alan

    ServerManagerCMD.exe is a deprecated utility and (as far as I know) is only found on Server 2008 versions, so I'm surprised it's needed for the preinstaller.  Are you trying to install SharePoint 2010?
    Running this page through Google Translate should give you an clearer idea on getting this installed.

  • NI Application Web Server refuses to be enabled

    I'm trying to deploy a web service made in LabVIEW 2010 and it fails to deploy saying that the NI Application Web service is not running....
    So I connect to http://localhost:3580, login as Admin (blank password) and click the web servers page. There I set the port of the Application Web Server to 8080, click the enable checkbox...and hit the apply button - and the only thing that happens is that the browser shows the Error on page symbol in its status bar....There is no "Yes" showing next to the Enable checkbox like for the system web server...
    So - if I start from scratch again and do the same, but also click the 32 bit radio button prior to hitting the apply button - what happens? Well, then I get an error dialog:
    The service itself (32bit, the 64 bit is listed but not as started) is running according to the services control panel...
    I'm stuck....So do anyone know what's missing here, is there something I'm doing wrong, or something that needs to be done prior to activating the application service?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Uninstalling and reinstalling 32 bit LabVIEW 2010 on two different machines revealed that the problem only showed up on my 64 bit Vista macine - not the 32 bit Windows 7 macine...
    Looking at the services running on the machine with the problem I could see that it was running the 32 bit version of the Web application server, had a 64 bit installed but set to disabled....- but - only the latter was set to depend on the NI Web server service. This looked a bit strange as the 32 bit version on the 32 bit machine was dependant on the NI Web Server....
    So - I disabled the 32 bit NI Web Application server service, enabled the 64 bit...and voila - I am now able to configure the Web Application Server to start.
    So why is both the 32 and 64 bit Web application services installed, with only the 32 bit one running - but not properly? Is this what happens to everyone, but everyone fixes it by switching to the 64 bit version...or is there something that causes the installation to get messed up?
