What about xVM Ops center? It looks like it has VM admin but I have not actually seen the program and I have not actually seen a price.
Implicate_Order is right, [Solaris Container Manager|http://www.sun.com/software/products/container_mgr/index.xml] (part of [Sun Management Center|http://www.sun.com/software/products/sunmanagementcenter/index.xml]) provides that single web page to manage (create/destroy/boot/halt/migrate/copy/resource-cap) zones. xVM Ops Center is a fantastic tool for patching and provisioning system amongst other things, but doesn't have all SCMs zone features, yet.

  • Recommendations for Solaris Zones for NW2004S?

I'm new to Solaris zones and would appreciate any recommendations from you regarding the setup of zones to run NW2004S. I did a scan of SapNet and SDN, but found nothing.
So, for example, would you insist on running a Prod instance in the global zone?  For an SAP that runs in a zone, which file-systems would you share from the global zone?
Another tips/traps you have would be greatly appreciated.

    We consolidated already 7 systems:
    root@consbig / >zoneadm list -vi
      ID NAME             STATUS         PATH
       0 global           running        /
      22 srmtest          running        /zone/srmtest
      23 nwdi_ext_1       running        /zone/nwdi_ext_1
      32 bbbcpy           running        /zone/bbbcpy
      35 icht             running        /zone/icht
      40 osiris           running        /zone/osiris
      42 bi_oracle_test   running        /zone/biorat

  • Req: Checkpointing Disks for Solaris Zones

Is there a way using Solaris Zones to checkpoint a disk? I would like to be able to carry out a series of experiments on a test system and start from an identical configuration each time. VMWare calls this capability "Disk checkpointing," and Solaris Zones appears to somewhat resemble VMWare.

    Hi,
since the SCOM Agent is not 'cluster aware' you probably have no other choice than restarting the agent and wait for the next discovery cycle of the solaris logical disks. You can speed this up by manually override the discovery interval for that specific
server. After that the disk is not longer monitored.
If you have the time and knowledge you could set up a custom monitoring for clustered filesystems and disable the standard monitoring for that filesystems. But I think thats quite time-consuming. We have the same issues here with our Solaris and Linux clustered/shared
filesystems but we still live with the workaround of restarting the agent.

  • SQL*Plus vs web/browser admin interface for 10g Express

hello, I'm a newbie in Oracle. Seem like I executed the setup script using SQL*Plus successfully (the scrpt CREATE TABLE then INSERT setup data) but seems like Oracle 10g Express web/browser interface tells me the setup data has never been inserted into the tables created?!

  • WCS11G - Start Menu Items for Admin interface?

I'm looking into WCS 11G since I need to migrate a 7.5.5 site.
As it looks now, code or structure won't be modified to better support features such as supporting the contributor interface better so a lot of our users will expect to use the admin interface.
I am however having an issue enabling simple start menu items for content. I.e. a simple Start Menu Item for a Page, simply will not show up. It shows up just fine in the contributor interface however.
I've been going through all the documentation, but I cannot see any references to there being any limits on what kind of assets can be presented in the admin interface.
Is this a bug I'm experiencing? Or simply an approach taken to force users over to the contributor interface?
    Thanks
    /Lars

By default the Admin UI will not show certain asset types, this is intentional and controlled by the property advancedUI.enableAssetForms in futuretense_xcel.ini. If you set this to true and restart then the Page assets and others will show up. Here's an extract from the Property Files Reference Guide:
    advancedUI.enableAssetForms
Used to enable and disable the WebCenter Sites
Admin interface for content contributors. Access
to the following assets is affected:
    • All flex assets and their parent assets
    • All basic assets
    • Engage assets, such as recommendations,
    segments and promotions
    • Query, Collection, and Page assets
By default, this property is set to false, which
disables the WebCenter Sites Admin interface for
content contributors. The assets listed above
cannot be created, edited, searched for, or deleted,
except from the WebCenter Sites Contributor
interface, where they are supported by default.
Note: In the Contributor interface, asset types and
assets intended for developers are either available
only for inspection or they are inaccessible. They
must be accessed from the WebCenter Sites
Admin interface. For a comparison of features in
the Contributor and Admin interfaces, see the
    WebCenter Sites User’s Guide.

    Hello All,
I would love to know if someone has a solution to this as I am seeing a similar issue with a slightly different setup.
Solaris 8 and Netra 240. I get the same result with and without patches and finish scripts. After the jumpstart and the failed boot attempt from disk. I can boot from cd, copy the glm driver from the cd to disk, and then everything works as it should. Obviously this is not a solution but only a work around.
Is it something to do with the SCSI hardware architecture used in the *240s?

  • Set rlim_fd_cur=8192 for Solaris 10 Zone?

    Hi!
I would like to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 on Solaris 10 Zone (Sparc 64 Bit).
Unfortunately I could find the file etc/system. Instead I added the project file acording to SAP note 724713.
When I run SAP prerequisite Checker SAPINST tells me that the following will be missed:
    set rlim_fd_cur=8192 in etc/system.
    Question:
Do I need to add the file etc/system and add them the following commando:
    set rlim_fd_cur=8192?
Or does this commando not apply for Solaris 10?
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    > In solaris 9 and below, it was needed to add the parameter in /etc/system. With solaris 10 no need.
    This is not completely true.
The number of maximum open files must be set in the global zone, otherwise you will run into problems once the total number of processes in all zones will be > 1024 - hence you need to also set this in Solaris 10.
A zone has no /etc/system thus that error can be ignored.

  • WEB Interface for Visual Admin

    Hi,
I'm told there is a web interface for the visial admin tool which can be launched from the examples section of the j2ee home page.
In order to do this you must first deploy the tool.
I've search the net and marketplace for the tool to download and am unable to find it.
Has anyone else come across this before??

  • Creating Disk Image for Solaris 8 Admin Pack

    Hi,
When I download the zip files "Software CD Image" for Solaris 8 Admin Pack / Solstice AdminSuite 3.0 and "Documentation CD Image", I get a zip file containing the contents of an installation disk (ie files and directories) rather than ISO files for creating a disk.
lf I then burn these to a CD (in either UDF or 9660 format) and try to install, it fails for various reasons, not least of which is the fact that the top level installation file does not have X permission. I know that I could copy these files to the Sun, change permission and run from there, but for various reasons I also need to be able to install from CD.
Does anyone know either how to create a CD with the correct format / file permissions / etc, or alternatively where the correct ISO's can be retrieved?
    Thanks in advance.

Partition before installing, then try it. Alternatively, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto the partition. That gives you something that you can immediately verify. A disk image requires restoring before you can be assured that it's viable. I've beta-tested Panther through Snow Leopard and have never made a disk image, only clones. Finally, creating the disk image takes much more time to create than does the clone. Just my 2¢. BTW, the image is useless unless you can successfully restore it. I have no idea why it's not working for you.

  • Are Solaris Zones approved for SAP production environments?

    All,
I am trying to find an official document from SAP that confirms that Solaris Zones are approved for use in SAP NW production environments. I checked the product availability matrix but it does not address Containers or Zones.
    Thanks,
    Guenther

They don't state it explicitly because you can use it. I comes with the operating system and if they would deny that, there would a be a note stating that explicitly.
On top of that, SAP would not create notes how to install and configure a zone if it wouldn't be supported
We run many instances under zones (production, test, sandbox) and make use of ZFS heavily and it works like a charm.

hello, you don't have to use hme0, that may not be your NIC type. your NIC appears to be realtek adapter. download the drivers first [try here: http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/rf-1.0.9.tar.gz] install them, then your NIC will have a name like rt0. you can then proceed to set its interface.i hope ifconfig -a, blah, blah is ok with u. If the adapter is ok then you can now do the zones - they are just automatic no strugling!
you can also find the drivers from realtek website at -- ftp://152.104.238.194/cn/nic/rtl8139abcd8130810xseries/rtls211.zip
here are sample instructions on how to install the driver
    How to install Solaris/x86 version
    1. This is the version 2.1.1 RTL8139 serials driver for Solaris/x86
    version.
    2. It support Speed/Duplex-Force mode, you can set it through rtls.conf file.
    3. It supports 3 PCI-VID_DID cards, VID_10EC_DID_8139 for Realtek's
native, VID_1113_DID_1211 for Accton and VID_1186_DID_1301 for
    D-Link in the install script.
    4. Install method:
    a. Power-off your PC and insert your RTL8139 adapter.
    b. Boot-up you Solaris/x86 and login as "root".
    c. Copy the "rtls211.zip" into the temporary location in your
    hard-driver.
    d. UNZIP the "rtls211.zip" and you will get 3 files, "rtls", "rtls.conf" and
    "Install".
    e. If the PCI ID for your RTL8139 adapter is not VID_10EC_DID_8139
or VID_1113_DID_1211 or VID_1186_DID_1301, you can modify the
"Install" file to match your PCI ID, VID_ABCD_DID_WXYZ for example,
    modify the "pci1186,1301" to "pciABCD,WXYZ".
    f. Run the "Install" from File Manager to install the driver, and
it will modify 2 files, "/etc/name_to_major" and "/etc/driver_aliases"
    g. You need to create the "/etc/hostname.rtls0" file and modify some
other related files to make your networking environments working well.
    h. You can execute "touch /reconfigure" then "shutdown -i5 -g0", so that
Solaris will reboot and scan changed hardware environment.
    i. You can execute "ifconfig -a" to make sure the RTL8139 driver is up.
    success. bye

  • Routing in solaris zones

Lets see the hypothetical situation. I have Solaris 10 with 3 zones ( + global).
I have 4 network interfaces. Every zone has it's own interface.
Now from what i've learnt all network configuration must be done in global zone. It means that every single network interface must have an adress assigned in the global zone even if i only intend to use it in sub zone. Also all routes must be added in global zone (if i try to add anything in sub zone i am disallowed with information "operation not permitted"). Every interface needs its own default gateway, so i have 3 default gws in global zone. What more every sub zone inherits all default gws, which is very confusing to the network traffic. I want a situation, where every zone inherits only part of routing which is intented for that very zone. How can i achieve that if i have to do all routing in global zone and after adding any route it appears automatically in sub zones?

From my understandig Solaris 11 is going to offer some features you're requesting right now. For now you can take a look a defining routes yourself to match the behavior you want, or take a look at zebra if you have routing protocols available on your network. But I have to urge you to consult your networkadministrator before you continue in both case so you don't take down your system or the network.

    224.0.0.0 240.0.0.0 172.16.0.60 e1000g32001:1 1500* 0 1 U 0 0
As you can see the route is attached to a different interface which is strange cause the zone also inherit an access to e1000g0:
Any ideas cause the only solution I know is to change the multicast route but this is not possible inside a zone ...
    route -n delete -interface 224.0/4 -gateway 172.16.0.60
delete net 224.0/4: gateway 172.16.0.60: insufficient privileges ....
    Thanks

The zone attach the multicast to the 1st interface, which means for a zone:
I've changed the order in /etc/zones/myzone.xml
    <network address="172.16.248.86" physical="e1000g0"/>
    <network address="172.16.0.61" physical="e1000g32001"/>
    <network address="172.16.244.86" physical="e1000g244001"/>
Now the route for the multicast is bounded to the correct interface:
    224.0.0.0 240.0.0.0 172.16.248.43 e1000g0 1500* 0 1 U 0 0
    As the global zone.
