Admin issues - installing a printer driver

HP deskjet 6980 - worked fine for a year until now. I removed it from my printers/system pref and went to install the driver (I never had the driver installed before - just plugged it in and it worked). Now due to the printer not working I tried to install the driver from CD and I got the message " The software to be installed requires administrator or higher level access privileges" I had the right password and have installed other software - what's up with this.
I tried to add the printer without installing the driver. This is the message I get when I try to add the printer - "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer successful - ok - cnflicting attributes.
This is the message I got when I discovered the printer was no longer working with my computer (it works with my moms imac)
- Word cannot print due to a problem with the current printer. Make sure you have a printer selected in print centre. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings.

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

Problem installing HP Printer driver hplip-3.10.9

I am trying to install the printer driver for my HP Laserjet p1102w (hplip-3.10.9.run). The program starts then stops with the error "TabError: inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentatiion". I did some research, but it could not resolve the issue. I think it has something to do with the way python handles tabs?? I did not have any problem installing this on my Fedora 13 desktop. Not sure how to proceed.

I have used the suggestions given, and I still can't get the printer driver to load. I did check the /var/log/cups/error-Log and found th following:

In fact, looking around, there are *loads* of newlines missed from dbglog()

Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.

How do I install a printer driver, without the printer?

You see, I don't want to print anything.
I am using some CAD software and I use the “create PDF” function of the printer dialogue to make a PDF. The problem is my drawing is quite large so I need to install a printer driver for a printer that handles larger paper (Epson 1280). I have the driver, but it refuses to install without the printer being attached to it.

Hi Lisa,
proceed as below.
1)Log in to HP-UX as root (or an other username that controls the printers, and has all the rights to the directories).
2)Type sam on the command line and press enter.
3)Scroll to Printer and Plotters with the vertical scrollbar.
4)Click twice on Printers and Plotters.
5)Double click on LP Spooler.
6)Click twice on Printers and Plotters.
7)Select Actions on the menu bar and click on Add Remote Printer/Plotter.
8)For Printer Name type any name, Remote System Name use the DNS/Host name, or alternatively use the dotted-IP (200.200.200.11). Remote Printer Name should be one of the destination ports on the Printnet (d1prn, d2prn, etc.). Also select Remote Printer is on a BSD System. Press OK and the server will install the printer.
9)Click on OK.
10)For a test print type lp d Printername /etc/protocols.
And finally dont forget to make this printer as the default printer if u have only this.
Right click on the printer and and say make default.

Duplex printing not working after installing HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1

our printers (Lexmark T622, HP Laserjet 2200, both equipped with a duplex unit) are managed by printer queues on our Mac OS X Server (10.5.5). Our users (mostly having Mac Books running 10.5.4 or 10.5.5) are printing by sending their jobs to the queues on the Mac OS X Server (via IPP/TCP/IP).
So far so good.
It seems that the users who have installed the "HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1" aren't able to do duplex-printouts anymore. All sheets that leave the printers are printed on one side only - the "Duplex" setting by these clients is just ignored. Users who haven't installed the update yet, don't have the problem (at least it seems to me like this, but I have to admit that I've tested it with only three different Mac Books, yet).
My questions are:
- Has anybody else observed this behaviour, yet?
- Or, even better, does anybody have a solution to it? Reinstalling the printer on an affected client doesn't solve it. That's what I tried already.
- Is there any possibility to make the printer driver update "undone", which means to do a kind of downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1?

Disconnect the printer. Restart your Mac.
Then try downloading the drivers.
If that doesn't help, exactly which printer drivers are you trying to download and from where?

I didn't realize that 10.6.2 had built-in drivers and installed the Epson and HP drivers & software from the company websites (not apple.com). Then I saw the December Epson printer driver update on apple.com and downloaded that...

Short answer - maybe.
If the printers are working properly, I would not be concerned. If they are not, you could do a "find" (include system files in the search) and see what you have. You could also reinstall OS X 10.6 over your current system and then run software update. I would not do that (time involved) unless you are having problems.

Can't install a printer driver...

Before I throw my iMac across the fields I remembered this forum had helped before.. I can't install a printer on my iMac.. when I go through system prefs, add printer, it sees the printer and manages to make it to looking for installable options then that window just hangs.. I can use the computer.. but the window stays and it never actually installs the drivers, i'm using a wireless connection. The same thing happened before with a previous Epson printer connecting by USB. In the end I managed to connect it to my Macbook.. but that's a sticking plaster rather than a cure.....

If you want to hook it up via wireless, it needs to support the wireless standard used by Apple, or be setup for printer sharing either in the wireless access point's own settings, or hooked up to another computer that has printer sharing turned on. It would help to know the model of the printer, and not just the make, to be able to give you a concise answer on which of these methods is most likely to be fruitful. And you are running Mac OS X 10.6 something on your machine, correct?

Epson Perfection 2400 Scanner issue with Epson Print Driver 2.4.1 Update

After the Epson Print Driver 2.4.1 update, my scanner quit working with Image
Capture, which hangs during the overview scan. The scanner makes a pass over
the document, but Image Capture just sits for a while saying "Overview Scan..."
and then fails with a generic error message.
I tried the suggestion in [11993273|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11993273&#11993273 ], but that did not work for me.
Any other ideas?

It is not straight-forward to uninstall the driver because Apple installer
does not offer an uninstall option. I resorted to
sudo find /Library -iname "epson" -print -exec mv {} ~/Desktop/epson \;
in the terminal. Reboot. Ran EPSONPrinterDrivers.pkg. Ran Disk Utility's
Repair Permissions. Reboot. Added scanner back in the System Preferences.
Opened Image Capture, the overview scan started and a few minutes later
*Scanner reported and error*
An error occured during scanning.

Issue with any printer driver on 2008 R2

I have this issue, which is rather strange.
It all started when suddenly a few computers on our domain couldn't see printers in the catalogue on our old win 2003 print server when they did a search, that issue stopped by it self, but none the less, it was there. Then a few weeks later, when any
given end user wanted to add any given printer via the catalogue search it wouldn't install the driver we've provided and that had worked for so long before that, and when the installer would do is to start looking on Windows update for the driver to use,
but it would fail.
Due to that we have a Windows 2008 R2 server enviroment on our domain I took this oppertunity to upgrade the print server and manually (for a temporarly use only) add the printers via their IP add. for te users that need to print daily, which
has been no problem at all with installing/getting to print/Work.
Now the really strange thing is that now that I have added the new domain print server 2008 R2 this issue withstands!? I can clearly see the list of printers in the catalogue that I made, but I still get the issue where the installation tries to get the
driver via Windows Update.
On the Network we use Xerox 7665 with a PCL rev 2.0 driver, HP 2015n, HP 2020, 2025n printer that use Universial PCL 5.2 driver (tried with 6.0 as well, same issue). HP 4700 that has its correct driver as well.
Can anyone here tell me where the issue might be at? Remember this big issue is that it cannot install any given printer on any given end user and it always tries to get the driver from Windows Update.
Also, end users have Windows 7 x86 and x64 versions installed. No XP, No Windows 8.
I hope someone here can help me, because my Google search gives me nothing... And normally Google and I are so good friends resolving issues ><

Seems like a common issue please try this. Please take a registry backup first.
This
is a very common error found in environments that use Windows 2003 32bit print servers , HP printers and 64Bit clients .
This problem may occur because of the following factors :
1 ) The dll Print Processor configured for your printer is not in the Client or Server drivers folder 2
) The Print Processor that the printer uses only installed the 32bit files and does not install the 64Bit version
Resolution:

has released a fix to try to solve this problem (

Issue with HP printer driver

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a Mac Book Pro; I also have an HP LaserJet 1022 printer.

...but the printer only prints odd pages (very frustrating). I then downloaded HPPrinter Drivers 2.8.dmg from

...and ran the install script. Document then printed fine yesterday, but today it's back to printing only odd pages. When I go to System Preferences > Print & Fax, it tells me that the printer is bound to the HP LaserJet 1022, 1.3.0.261 driver (which I assume is the one causing the problem) - but I can't find the new driver, downloaded from the Apple support page, to bind the printer to.
Please can someone tell me how to remove the faulty driver, install and *locate* the correct one, and then bind it to the printer? I'm not a tech guru, but I'm willing to learn - please try not to assume too much knowledge on my part!
I expect this question, or similar, may have been asked before as I know the HP-authored driver is recognised as causing this problem, but I haven't found the discussion thread; please accept my apologies for anyone who ends up repeating their advice - it will still be gratefully received!

That is the latest driver for your printer. What program are you printing with that gives you only the odd pages? Does it happen in all programs? Have you checked the settings in the print dialogue?
