Admin Issues

I've tried everything I know possible, and am desperate for some help. I have avast free antivirus, and have never had an issue until now. My major problem is most of my files have been hidden, lost administrator ability even though I am the only account, and can't restore my computer because after I do a dialog pops up catalyst error and another one that says error.
System Restore failed to extract original copy of directory from restore point
Source: %SystemRoot%\Registration
ComPlusStaging
I have a Toshiba Satellite L675, and have come across a malware issue despite having Avast Free to protect from this stuff. I have the only account on this laptop, and have always been the admin.  All my files can not be located by going the typical routes through my computer, but if I search for them they will be found. If I try to delete anything in the account C:Users/Public account an error pops up saying I need aministrator control, which I can't obtain. My C:Users/Name account, which I've alwys used has a lock on it, properties say it is read only. Again need administrative abilities to do anything, and nothing pops up when you try to open the folder
What I've tried? I've tried the system restore, error that is explained above. I tried manually restoring folders, needed administrative ability also. Tried turning off file sharing on the network. Tried running AVAST, which couldn't come up with anything and also tried Spybot, which said I was infected, but again would need administrator controls to remove it?
Any idea how I can fix this? I really don't want to do a factory reset or have to take it to a shop if at all possible.

Maybe best to enable the hidden Administrator account (which elevates the privileges somewhat), copy all your important files to external storage, and then restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
Enable the hidden Administrator account in Windows 7 and Vista
See the section Recovering to out-of-box state (recommended recovery method), which begins on p. 62 of the User's Guide.
   Satellite L670 Series User’s Guide
If you want to discuss this further, tell us which Satellite L675 you have.

Where are you downloading from and what are you downloading to?
I've never seen an error warning like that before and there are zero results for it online.
My gut reaction to that error would be to attempt to contact the network administrator at extension 20 (if I were on a public/school/work network).

  • Server admin issues

I can't connect to my server using server admin.
I've tried 127.0.0.1, the public IP address, and the private IP address with no luck.
In the logs I see this message that is about the same time I noticed the issue.
    2/23/10 5:19:08 PM servermgrd[18299] [18299] process will force-quit to avoid deadlock
Immediately prior to that force-quit, there was this log message
    2/23/10 5:19:08 PM servermgrd[18299] [18299] error in getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out
Before that I seen numerous instances of this message
2/20/10 2:44:33 AM servermgrd[18299] servermgr_accounts: Couldn't find keychain entry for local computer record
    Any ideas ?

I tried using launchctl to stop and start servermgrd, but that didn't fix my problem.
Rebooting the machine didn't help me either.
Adding the following line to /etc/hostconfig seems to have fixed my issue
    SERVERMANAGERSERVER=-YES-
Unfortunately, the first line in /etc/hostconfig is
    # This file is going away
That makes me think this is not the correct way to handle the problem.
Plus I have other machines that don't have that line in /etc/hostconfig, and they
can be managed via the ServerAdmin app just fine.
Does anyone know how to achieve the same result without editing the /etc/hostconfig file ?

  • ARD 2.2 admin issues when client is at Login Window

I've used ARD for a long time now. Currently running ARD 2.2 Admin on Tiger 10.4.2 on iBook G3 800 MHz. I've always been able to see the clients listed as available, even if client is at the Login Window, even after a restart.
Issue is w/ one particular client running ARD 2.2 client on Tiger 10.4.2 on a iMac 2 GHz G5.
Issue is, when the client's G5 is rebooted, I cant access it when it's at the Login Window. It doesn't even show as available. Once he logs in, his iMac shows as available, and I can access it. If he the logs out, I do see the iMac as available at the Login Window and can access it.
However, issue also is reflected in SSH. I can't SSH to his machine until he logs in as well.
Again, this is only after the system initially starts up after a reboot for example.
Seems to me that networking isn't properly starting up and only after user logs in does it start up.
I know this might not be best posted in ARD discussion, but I figured I'd start here.
    Any ideas? Thanx in advance.

Small consolation but I'm seeing the exact same behavior. ARD Admin is a PM G5 and it has no trouble at all seeing/controlling a TiBook 400 (Tiger), a Cube (Tiger Server), a Yikes PM (Panther), or a 17" iMac (Panther). There's an iBook G3 (Panther), though, that doesn't appear to support any kind of incoming network connection unless one of the users is logged in.

  • Weird Admin issues w/ regards to installing Software

I tried creating a second admin to try and solve the issue but to no resolve.
basically, I'm trying to update applications (running 10.6.1 on a 2.4Gzh uMBP) such as Firefox, VLC, uTorrent, and other 3rd Party Apps.
For example only under admin accounts can you goto (in FireFox) Help > Check For Updates and it wont be greyed out....but under all Admin & standard user accounts its greyed out...
So I manually downloaded it, mounted the DMG, dragged to apps folder...and gives me this message: You dont have significant admin permissions to edit this
it does this for VLC, Firefox and uTorrent...it was working not too longer ago if i recall?
i tried permissions repair, safe mode...not sure what else to try...any ideas?
    thanks!

that's because Firefox.app is only writable from the account that was used to originally install it. an easy way around it if you are doing it from another account is to delete the current firefox.app from the main Applications folder and then drag the new Firefox.app from the dmg to the main Applications folder. you'll need to provide an admin password if you are doing it from a standard account. same goes for VLC, Utorrnet etc.

  • XI 7.0 Visual Admin issue

    Hello,
I am trying to install XI 7.0 (NW 2004s). The installation was error-free. However, while doing post installation steps, Visual Admin threw a 'Session expired' error. Since then, I am unable to login to Visual Admin using J2EE_ADMIN (throws "Authentication did not succeed" error). I have activated SAP* user using configtool, and unlocked J2EE_ADMIN. I have also changed J2EE_ADMIN password several times using SAP GUI.
    But still, the error persists.
Please let me know if anyone has a solution.
    Thanks in advance

  • ALBPM 5.7 BPM process admin issues with Oracle 11g RAC as directory service

    Hi,
Setup ALBPM 5.7 enterprise for weblogic.
BPM Engine deployed on weblogic cluster.
BPM process admin (web console) deployed on tomcat.
BPM process admin uses WEB-INF/directory.properties for directory configuration.
things were fine with oracle SID,
    directory.default.url=oracle://<db_host>:1521/schema=diruser,sid=BPMDB { with this, login to process admin was working fine}
But clueless, on how to configure RAC as the directory service in the above directory.properties file. Since this is a old version, no directory.xml in the installation.
    Connection string:
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (LOAD_BALANCE = on)
    (FAILOVER = on)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB_HOST1)(PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB_HOST2)(PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = BPMDB)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
Please help how to use service name (above connection string) in directory.properties, to be able to login to process admin successfully.
    Thanks in advance,
    Swamy

Using admin center, able to get the string to be used in directory.properties.
FYI, the string looks like below,
    directory.default.url=oracle://customURL:0/schema=bpmdirectory,customURL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE = on)(FAILOVER = on)(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB_HOST1)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB_HOST2)(PORT=1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = BPMDB.DOMAIN.COM) (FAILOVER_MODE = (TYPE = SELECT) (METHOD = BASIC))))

  • Visual Admin Issue

    Experts ,
I want to know about Visual Admin and ConFig Tool and in How many ways they  are used
    list out all briefly ,
    Thanks in  Advance,
    Phani

    Hi Phani,
The J2EE Engine Visual Administrator is a graphical user interface (GUI) that enables administration of the whole cluster, all cluster elements, and all modules running on them. It provides remote monitoring and management of managers, services, libraries, and interfaces working on each element in a single GUI
    Visual Administrator includes functions for:
    a) Obtaining general information about a service, manager, interface, or library (for example, its name, group,    and so on).
    b) Logging on to the J2EE Engine via the Visual Administrator tool
    c) Administrating and changing the properties either specific or common for each service or manager
    d) Configuring the global properties
    e) Runtime administration and control.
Read out more about its features on [VISUAL ADMINISTRATOR|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/39/83682615cd4f8197d0612529f2165f/frameset.htm]
    CONFIG TOOL :-
The Config Tool enables offline configuration of the J2EE Engine cluster elements. It is XML-based and allows exporting the system configuration for later use.
When you run the J2EE Engine Config Tool via a GUI or text-only interface, it connects to the database and scans the server configuration. The information provided is passed to the corresponding interface that is used for configuration.
Each change you can perform corresponds to a particular task in the Batch Config tool.
All modifications made using the J2EE Engine Config Tool can be exported to an XML file for later use.
    two types:-
    a) GUI Config tool :- The J2EE Engine GUI Config Tool enables offline configuration of J2EE Engine cluster elements concerning serviceu2019s and manageru2019s properties, adding new server processes, changing Java parameters, exporting the system configuration to an XML file, and so on.
After installing the SAP Web AS Java, a configtool directory is created, containing a configtool script file. Double clicking on this file starts the Config Tool.
    b) Text Only Config tool:- The text-only Config Tool enables you configuration of J2EE Engine cluster elements using a text-only based interface. It enables you to change the cluster element properties, JVM settings, add new elements, export the system configuration to an XML file, and so on.
After installing SAP Web AS Java, a configtool directory is created under <SAP_install_dir>/<system_name>/<instance_name>/j2ee, containing a consoleconfig script file. Double clicking on this file starts the text-only Config Tool.
Read more about config tool on  [CONFIG TOOL|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e8/f48b33f9a3423c9e688dfa56330e79/frameset.htm]

  • RAID Admin Issues - not connecting

I installed my first Xserve yesterday. When I open the RAID admin and attempt to connect, all it says is gathering info... with a status wheel and it doesn't go any further. I can let it sit there all day and it doesn't say anything but that. ANy thoughts?

    Hi
Are you sure you're using the correct application? RAID Admin was intended for use with Apple's XServe RAID:

Perhaps you mean RAID Utility? Launching it should show you information regarding the Apple RAID Card:

  • Continuing delegated admin issues

    Folks,
I have install nda on our production machine. When I try to login as ServiceAdmin (which is the mail admin in ldap) it says invalid credentials.
I have more problems with delegated admin -- I am starting to hate it....

The command line is your friend. Learn it, use it, love it. :-)
Seriously, for account creation/deletion, I've written scripts for doing that. Much easier than the GUI. Besides, the GUI doesn't delete PAB entries (last I checked). I also have a script for setting a user's password.
I do have one question: Why doesn't the iDA allow me to modify a user's mail filter? I can do other stuff, but not that.

  • NW admin issue

    Hello,
I really need your expert help. I am new to installation stuff and quite confused and struck. My goal is to install XI and configure it to use for Webservices and Proxy.
So, first i installed Solution Manager40 to generate key and I did it successfully. But, It installed SLD and DB stuff.
Now, I installed XI on the same host. So, again i created one more DB, but it insists me provide central SLD since my solution manger SLD already exists.
So, i have done with central SLD and new DB.
And installation has been completed. The mistake is i don't know about templete installer. So, i have taken XI30 config guide and started steps. And in between i struck up.
For PI70, i can do template installer. So, i wanna try it. Here the question is any problems if i do it now, i mean after some post-installation steps.
I don't have problem if installer will configure for local SLD. Because i am using only one system now.
When i login to http://localhost:port/nwa -->netweaver admin to start template installer.. it not opening. It is just going on and on . and no page is comin gup.
    What is wrong..
    Please help me.

  • Admin issues - installing a printer driver

HP deskjet 6980 - worked fine for a year until now. I removed it from my printers/system pref and went to install the driver (I never had the driver installed before - just plugged it in and it worked). Now due to the printer not working I tried to install the driver from CD and I got the message " The software to be installed requires administrator or higher level access privileges" I had the right password and have installed other software - what's up with this.
I tried to add the printer without installing the driver. This is the message I get when I try to add the printer - "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer successful - ok - cnflicting attributes.
This is the message I got when I discovered the printer was no longer working with my computer (it works with my moms imac)

  • 10.5.1 update causes 'admin' issues ?

I did the latest iTunes and OSX update to 10.5.1 and since then I cannot overwrite programs in the Applications folder. Needs authentication and gives me sign-on without user name filled in. Enter 'correct' user-name and password and it says it's incorrect. (I know that it is in fact correct). I tried changing it and it changes OK and looks like it save but the the new set doesn't work either. Changed it back and it looks to save it also. Tried rebooting. no difference. Any ideas?

I seem to be having similar problems after updating to 10.5.1
My username is now no longer "allowed to administer this computer"
I dont have a specific user set up that allowed me to either. Everything used to just work as me!
I cant do any repairs to disk permissions, as when I attempt to, I have to authenticate as an administrator...
Can someone point me in the right direction?? I know how to deal with this under solaris, by booting from CD/DVD - but ive never done this under macos..
    Any help much much appreciated!
