Admin name/password

Since installing Leopard several issues. Latest now is I can't upgrade software due to issues with admin name/password. I am using the correct password but the system won't accept it. Um==nable yo get updates, etc. I have tried to research solution on forums, no help so far. When you start up using install dvd what keys do you hold down?
help!!

NO NO and NO!
This is how you solve it:
1. Boot to your instal disk#1
2. select Reset password from menu bar
3. Choose to reset password for "root", and create a new password and save it
4. re-boot, on login choose "other", User name:root Password:(the new one you created)
5. when you log in as root, open you account pane and give back Admin rights to your orginal account
6. log out of root and log in to you orginal account
Now you can do as you please

  • Admin name/password when shutting down

Here's a weird one. Just got a MacBook and transferred data/settings etc. from iBook using firewire. Everything seems to work, except: when multiple users are logged in, and I try to shut down, it asks for Admin name/password in order to shut down. Same as iBook, except the MacBook doesn't recognize either the name of the Admin or the password (don't know which). The admin password worked for installing software updates, so I'm totally confused. I reset the admin password using the install disc, but it still doesn't recognize the name or password. Anyone have a clue to help? Log in password works, as does the app. install (as I mentioned).

    Thank for the hint, James!
There was a problem with an "extra" user logged in - "_xcsbuildd ".
"sudo xcrun xcscontrol --reset" completely removes the Xcode Service including the _xcsbuildd user.

  • I can't remember my admin name/password

i am trying to update my MacBook pro and I don't know the password or admin name my husband used to set it up (he doesn't remember it either!)  is there a way i can find these out to get updates without going back to factory restore and losing all my files?

    zillamama1,
in the Finder, press Command-Shift-U to open your Utilities folder; run Terminal in there. In the Terminal window, enter the following command, and then press the Return key:
    ls -1 /Users | egrep -v '^(Guest|Shared)$'
The output from this command should list all of the non-default users on your system — viz those users that you or your husband have created. If the administrative user name doesn’t jog your husband’s memory as to what its password could be, then it can be reset in this way: restart your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Utilities from the menu bar, and then Terminal from Utilities. In the Terminal window, run the following command:
    resetpassword
Follow its instructions for the administrative user which you’d identified above. Once the password has been reset, select Restart from the Apple menu to restart into normal mode, and then try logging in as your administrative user to make sure that the password has been reset correctly.

  • How to change the Admin name/password?

Hello, I have a iMac 27 inch i5 16GB RAM (don't think this matters, but just in case) and I am selling it in order to upgrade to the i7.
I have bootcamp with windows 8pro and a lot of software on the MAC side. If this guy want to take it as is, is there a way to simply change the "account" from mine to a new person without wiping the drives and starting from scratch?

Are you a police officer? Did I ask for legal advice? You are wrong, my friend. not to mention, a lot of software is bought online, no disks. Either way, if I buy my nephew a laptop, buy dvd fab and put it on his computer...and do not give him the confirmation email, that is not a crime. Not trying to be an azz, buut come on. Why can't someone just answer a question here without the 3rd degree, I just looked for a solution as to why my finder doesn't update to show shares, and if there is a "refresh" option. I found a thread! Guess what? Everyone there was asking "why would you want to do that?" Who cares?! It is a question!
nice job, apple with not allopwing certain words in your posts. I guess apple users are more easily butt hurt than the others lol
And no one answered what happens if I delete my email address that is connected to my apple ID?

  • My HP office jet 6500 printer is stuck on pause. I do not have an admin name or password as it is a wireless printer and I never had to set one up.  It keeps asking me for admin name and password...

My HP office jet 6500 printer is stuck on pause.  I do not have an admin name or password that it keeps prompting me to give, as it is a wireless printer and that info was not required when we set up the printer.  I have checked all diagnostics and connections and they are all good/passed.  I am so frustrated!!!    This has never happened in the past.

What is asking you for an admin name and password? What does the dialog say, exactly?
What model iMac are you using, and which OS version?
If it is earlier than Lion or Snow Leopard, try deleting the printer and adding it again as explained in this document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3140
Otherwise you can "reset the printing system" as explained here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341
    and here

Download the latest drivers here (Lion, Snow Leopard)

  • Account shortname and admin name don't match-password is not accepted

I had accidently changed my home name in the finder window. To fix this (so my files would show) I used NetInfo Manager to change the admin and user values. Now when I have tried to install a new program, the admin name does not show, and when trying both names (new and old) neither work with the password.
I used the install disc to reset the password, but it didn't help. In NetInfo Manager, the password (asterixs) shows longer than the password I chose...
Please help me fix the password situation. Thanks.

If you change the name(not home) property of an administrator account without updating the membership of the admin group, that account will lose administrator access to the machine; it is possible to create a situation where there are no administrator accounts on the machine through this method. In this case, follow these instructions on one of the accounts which previously had administrator access.

  • Admin name and password says invalid EVERYTIME

hi, i'm trying to download the trial for photoshop, and when i wanted to start the set up, it said +'type an administrator's name and password to allow setup to make changes'+, so i typed in the admin name and password that i type in when i'm logging in (when turning on the macbook) and
it just keeps saying its invalid. ('sorry, you entered an invalid username or password')
the same happened with everything else i tried to download.
    PLEASE HELP

You've undoubtedly "lost" you admin account. To make sure open System Preference->Accounts and look at your account in the left corner and it should say "admin" below it. If it doesn't you've lost it. It's a Leopard bug.
Have a look at this Apple KB article for regaining those privileges.

  • I know the password, but I forgot my admin name

I am 100% sure about the password. I can change the password (which requires the old password, and if I can change it, then the password is accurate) but I don't know the admin name. Before i installed the Mavericks update, the name was automatically there when I was applying changes that required authorization, but now it doesn't appear, and I can't do nothing. When I go to Users & Groups on System Preferences, on the left sidebar there's just two usernames. pedro (standard) and Guest User. I tried everything on the admin name. pedro, root, admin, apple, and I don't know what to do. Please, help.

Is pedro an standard account or an admin account?

  • Lost 9100EM admin name and password

I stupidly lost my admin name and password on my Westell 9100EM.  Is there any way to reset the password?  I believe that the name is still 'admin".  If not, how do I reset the 9100EM to factory defaults and does that change anything other than the changes that I made?  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Admin name and password

I really don't know what's the deal, but a friend of ours is working to get our wireless internet working on the laptop. Unfortunately, we have nothing that tells us what our admin name is, or what our password is to get to the IP site to get it working.
Is there a number I could call?

If your problem is all about a linksys router then you better call their tech support line 8003267114 so you could explain the real deal..or if you can give tmore details of your prob i would probably able to help you.

Chances are you mis-typed a character in the Wifi password and the devices saved that information.  Now whenever you try to connect the device refers to the wrong password and the Jetpack does not accept your connection.  Tell your devices to forget the wireless connection and start over.
Once you enter the proper WiFi credentials the Jetpack will allow you to connect.

  • Admin name and password not working

I recently upgraded to leopard and I just tried to install a printer and it asked for an admin name and password. I only have one account on my powerbook. My name and password work to unlock the computer when waking from sleep but is being rejected in the system preferences panel. I know I have the name and password right and that I am the only admin account. Please help.

At the top of the Leopard discussion pages, there's a yellow box, suggesting that you read one of Apple's "known problems and workarounds" documents. This problem is one of those discussed.

You must have set a password for Admin when you first set up your Mac. Therefore you should have made note of it somewhere. Did you? Or have you bought it second hand?

How do I find my admin. name and pass word after down loading Maverick ?

You mean for your existing version of OS X right? Mavericks isn't going to have a password until you set one.
