Admin password help please

I've recently purchased a 2003 G3 iBOOK. For genuine reasons I do not have the Admin password or any of the start up discs.
I want to upgrade the OS and without the password it seems impossible. Are there ways around passwording and will I need a disc? Where would one buy a disc if required?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Assuming it is an OS 9 Multiple Users password, you will need to find a disk to which the machine can boot.
Boot to the CD; open the System Folder on the hard drive, go into the Preferences folder and locate the file named Multi-User Prefs. Throw that file away and empty the Trash. Then do a normal restart.
A 2003 iBook G3 came with both OSX and OS 9 - it is bootable to either; however, as far as OS 9 goes it can use only the version that came on the disk set that originally shipped with it. The minimum version of OSX that it can use is the version that originally shipped with it, OSX 10.2.something (the exact version depends upon the specific model iBook); it can use any later version retail OSX package (10.3 or 10.4).
You can often get replacement original disks from Apple's Customer Support, by phone.

Resetting admin password. Please help!!

My friend has a G4 ibook with mac osx 10.3.8 installed, unfortunately he has forgotten his password and this prevents him from installing any software now. I have read the support pages from apple which state i should use the installation disc of the original mac os x. This has unfortunately been lost. I have tried with a newer installation disc "tiger" and this does not work. Can anyone help me.

Reset Admin Password ..... using Terminal
1. Type.... passw < return>
2. It'll prompt for the...... “old password” <return>
3. Type..... “new password” <return>
4. Retype ...... “password” <return>
Changing the password in this way has the same effect as changing through "System Preferences".
Reset Admin Password .... using Single User Mode
Hold down (command+S) at startup, you will be presented with a black screen containing a bunch of code... this is called....... Single-User Mode
Type.....
sudo passwd username <return> ... or ...
/usr/bin/passwd username <return>
Type your already existing ..... “old password” <return>
Type in a new...... “password” and verify
Type... reboot <return>

There is no start up disk w the new MacBook Pro. I recently changed my admin password when it goes to sleep. Must have hit a wrong key, possible w me....nothing is working. I have to reset it. I was going to register my Mac, had it for a few days, sending this from my iPad. Please, please help

Mail and password: Help please!!!

I have changed my password and on my iPhone and iPad there is no problem. However, on my iMac, 10.8.2 every time I put the computer to sleep and then wake it up again Mail tells me to verify my password. I press OK but it refuses to accept and I am forced to go to System Preferences, then mail where I press OK for the same password and the whole thing then works.
In Yahoo it works perfectly!
What is happening in Mail. I have deleted the account in preferences and set it up again but all to no avail.

You might try the following steps:
Restart the device by holding down the on/off button until the power down slider appears.
Try entering your password in another location (i.e. when you are using a different wifi network)
Reset all settings (settings > general > reset), this resets some of your settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It does not remove any of your data.
Try signing out of iCloud and back in (only if find my phone is disabled)
If this doesn’t help your best option may be to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

You can reset your password with your restore disk. Boot off the disc by holding "C" on startup or "option" to select if you have it on a USB drive. Once you are in the Install software, do NOT reinstall the system, but answer the password questions you set up previously under "Reset Password".

Admin Password Help

Recently, the wire connecting my hardrive and computer fried, so I brought it in and they gave me a new hardrive and recovered all my old data.
When I turn on the computer, it automatically logs in to the admin user me. However, when I try to delete something, the admin password box pops up. For some reason, the password I had before doesn't work!
They updated the software to 10.8.5.

There are two different problems, if I understand your question. One is that you're prompted for a password; the other is that the password isn't accepted.
It's normal to be prompted for a password when making changes to most files outside your home folder. If you're getting the password prompt when making changes inside your home folder, for example on the Desktop, that's not normal.
I suggest you start by resetting the login password for your account.
First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select

from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

Corrupted .rar file / incorrect password (help please)

hi there,
i have been sent several .rar video files and usually have no problem expanding them. i generally use Rar Expander and UnrarX. this time however, half-way through the expansion, it always stops, saying the password is incorrect or the file is corrupted. whilst it is being expanded i can watch the file up until the half-way point by locating it in finder. my mate has constantly tried uploading and sending me the file that seems to be corrupted but it's always the same issue. is there a way i can start the expansion after the corrupted file so i can see the other half of the file or expand each file individually. i also have VLC Rar Loader but for some reason I can't open this individual files in this either. please help, i would greatly appreciate.

Consecutive rar files cannot be opened individually. So if you have 10 .rar files, and the 5th one is broken, you can only view items in .rar files 1~4, and parts of 5 if you're lucky.
Sorry, but that's how split compression works. You miiight be able to fix it using some special tool, but I don't know of any that works if the resulting file is supposed to be one giant video file.
In all honesty, you would be better off re-downloading from their origins.

I'm sorry to hear that your iPhone isn't accepting your Apple ID username or password since you upgraded to iOS 6.
I suggest that you do the following to try and rectify the problem:
If you have been able to setup your iPhone since the upgrade;
1. Open the "Settings" app on the home screen.
2. Scroll down to "iTunes & App Stores" and open it.
3. Your Apple ID should be displayed at the top of the page. Tap your Apple ID.
4. It may ask you for your password, if so you see if you can see an option for "iForgot" and tap it.
5. Go through Apple's password recovery protocols.
If you can't setup your iPhone because iOS 6 is my accepting your Apple ID;
1. Go to a PC / Mac and open your web browser.
2. In the address bar, type in the following address: http://iforgot.apple.com
3. Go thorough Apples password recovery protocols.
If your still stuck;
1. Please check that the Apple ID (usually an email address) you are entering is correct. Make sure nothing is in capital letters that should be in lower case etc.
2. Make sure that the password you are entering is correct, including the case of the letters etc.
3. Go to iTunes and see what Apple ID your computer is signed into. Make sure it is the right one, especially if you have multiple iOS users in your house and have others using the same PC / Mac to sync their devices. Their is a chance that someone has logged into iTunes using their Apple ID and logged you out.

Hey guys could you tell me how to change my password on my g3 iBook (Specs below) without having system disks please. Can I use the disks from my g3 iMac (yes still OSX .1.5)??? Any help would be appreciated.

Restart the computer and while it's starting up, hold command-S. This will start up in Single-User Mode, which will give you a root command line.
Once you see localhost:root#, type:
mount -uw /cd /private/var/db
press enter then type:
rm .AppleSetupDone press enter then type:
exit
Your comp should now start up just like it would if it were the first time being booted.

You are NOT allowed to assume or take over or merge the previous Owner's Apple ID Account with yours. The Apps and media that that Owner bought in the Mac Store and iTunes Store were solely for his use and CANNOT under the Terms of Use for Apple be transferred to or used by anyone else. You'll have to purchase new anything you want to use from the Store. And you will Not be able to Update any Apple Apps he left on the Mac. Sorry, but those are the rules.

Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help
You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
