Admin Password required on Screensaver after enabling AD Plug-in

I recently enabled the AD Plugin on my iMac at work so I now authenticate to a central directory when logging in. I made my network login an admin account on the computer by logging in as a local admin and giving myself rights.
The problem is that the authentication window that comes up when trying to get back onto the computer aftter the screensaver has started sometimes accepts my network login and sometimes will only accept the local admin account's login and password. I haven't detected a pattern yet - it seems rather random. Is this a bug in the AD Plugin or a setting I've missed somewhere? (BTW -I have purposely set up the computer so it prompts me for a password when waking from sleep or screensaver)
Any ideas?
Thanks:)

  • Admin password required for stopped queue

I am running 10.5.4 iMac G5 clients and 10.5.5 servers at my schools. We use mostly GCC 12 series laser printers with a few HP models of varying vintages thrown in. My users are experiencing frequent pauses or stops of their print queues. They are unable to restart the queues themselves, I must go in with my admin password to restart their queues. I've been told this is not a bug but a purposeful function of the OS. Is this true? Also, is there any way around it? I am going crazy just trying to keep up with all the print queues that need to be reset every day! Also, any idea what is causing printers to stall on even simple jobs? It seems to be happening far more often than it used to on my old 10.3 clients, even on simple Appleworks documents.

I found a possible solution at the macosxhints, haven't tried it yet as only one of my Macs is on 10.5.5 so far. I'll post back if it works, though a few posts have been made to that solution with success so far.

Here's the text from the link:
Mac OS X 10.5 requires you to enter an administrator's password to pause/resume a print queue, where no previous version of OS X has done so. This is extremely annoying in a lab setting -- if there's a paper jam or something, the queues on all the computers need to be restarted by an administrator, instead of the user just clicking Resume. I haven't seen a solution to this elsewhere, so here's what I came up with:
    1. As root, or in a Terminal session with su privileges, edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.
    2. Find this section:
    <Limit Pause-Printer Resume-Printer Enable-Printer Disable-Printer Pause-Printer-After-Current-Job Hold-New-Jobs Release-Held-New-Jobs Deactivate-Printer Activate-Printer Res
    tart-Printer Shutdown-Printer Startup-Printer Promote-Job Schedule-Job-After CUPS-Accept-Jobs CUPS-Reject-Jobs>
    AuthType Default
    Require user @AUTHKEY(system.print.admin) @admin @lpadmin
    Order deny,allow
    </Limit>
    3. Remove the items you don't want limited: Pause-Printer, Resume-Printer, Pause-Printer-After-Current-Job, etc.
    4. Save the file, quit the editor, and restart your computer.
After restarting, you should be able to pause/resume the print queue as any user. Hope this helps, it was annoying the heck out of me.

  • Nuisance--- admin password required for Onyx or Cocktail

I don't use an Admin password, but OS 10.74 requires a password, not a blank password, so run Cocktail or Onyx.  I enjoy having no password, and no one else uses my laptop.   It's a nuisance to add a password, run Cocktail or Onyx, then delete the password in Prefs.   The authors of these two utilities assert that Apple requires a password, not the authors of these two fine utilities.
Anyone know a workaround so the password space can be blank ?

Administrator user accounts that have a blank password (that is, no characters at all for the password) will be unable to use sudo functions in Terminal.

Yep.  I knew that.  But that doesn't mean it's convenient or judicious or necessary.   While Apple has made some improvements in Apps and OS, there is a growing list of issues.
Your specific issue is that you don't wish to have a password. That is fine, but do not expect everything to work in your favour just because of your decision to be lazy. Third Party Apps are NOT Apple's responsibility. It is up to them to keep up to date.
Unfortunately for you, it IS necessary to have a password to access Terminal.
If you believe that Apple should have a User Option for this, then tell them. We don't write the software.

  • Password required on iPad with Enabled Restrictions

    Esteemed Friends,
I'm trying out a cart of iPads in the elementary classroom, all managed by a single iTunes account. I enabled various restrictions (Facebook/Twitter, purchasing media, etc.) ... and having done so, we are now asked for the passwords when updating previously purchased apps. We are on 6.0.1, and before I had the restrictions enabled we were able to update without the password. I turned off all the restrictions that might be App Store related (installing and deleting apps, in-app purchases, etc.) but still we are required to enter the password. It is only if I disable all restrictions that we can update without the password. Since I want the students/teachers to be able to update existing apps without having me type in the password on every device, this is a major pain... but I don't want to turn off restrictions altogether. Any thoughts?
Not that I think it's relevant to this, but the iPads in question are 2nd generation ... not the 3rd generation I listed as my personal product in my profile. :-)

I have mine set to 15 minutes and it doesn't ask for the password on mine for app updates - the only other restrictions that I have are for in-app purchases and game center (both off). As I don't currently have any available updates I can't test anything at the moment.

  • Lost Admin Password - now Keychain problems after resetting pass.

So I was unable to login to OS X Lion 10.8.4, following the instruction here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5118960
So I followed the instructions there, restarted, and was prompted and allowed access to the Admin account, however now I am being asked for Keychain access, something called Messages Agent, etc. and no matter how many times I click Cancel (because it's the old password I do not know) it just comes back.
    What do I do now?

    From the linked article.
If the login password was reset because the user forgot the old password, the keys, passwords, and other information in the keychain will not be accessible, andthe user will need to create a new keychain.
Keychain - About your keychain password
You'll have to add all your passwords back in the new keychain.

  • Password required when placing file in Trash?

    Hello everyone!
Since upgrading to Maverick, I am required to enter my password each time I want to place a file in the trash. Also, it automatically empties the trash, rather than just placing it in there for me to empty the trash manually. How can I fix this?
I'm really NOT a computer geek, so please bear with me and keep it simple!

  • Having trouble resetting admin password

I have followed the directions on the MAC OS X install disc to get to the area that allows an admin password change. However, after I hit Utilities, then Restart, it asks me for the admin password to continue. I am trying to change it because I have forgotten it. Kind of a "Can't get there from here" loop. Any thoughts?

  • HT4623 my iphone 5 was just updated with iOS 6, phone days update is completed but will not recognize my wifi admin password so I can not use the phone at all

My Iphone 5 says my iOS 6 was successfully updated but I can not get the next step complete as it will not recognize my wifi admin password and am unable to use the phone at all HELP Suggestions??

Enter the correct passcode to access the Wi-Fi, it is NOT the admin password for the Wi-Fi.
Or, simply plug the device into the computer and restore it from the backup there.

  • Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options.

Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options. I was able to select the account under "parental controls", but again, could not delete it. Why Apple? Why?!!????

SOLVED Ok. I actually was able to disable it. I had to actually log in as the guest user to make it accessible in the preference window. Then I disabled it and logged out. Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.

    Hi,
FMIS 4.5 does not accept plain text password. Encrypt=false is no longer supported. See here for more information : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926 bcf-7fed.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926bcf-7e91
The value for SERVER.ADMIN_PASSWORD needs to be the encrypted string for your password. That should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Why does Time Machine fail to restore and keep the original file after I have provided my Admin password?

  • Acrobat 7 requires admin password at every launch for non admin users?

acrobat 7 requires admin password at every launch for non admin users?
any one with a solution or similar problem?
    thanks for any help.

I've been avidly following all of the threads regarding this issue...yet none of the solutions have worked for me. I've got 11 Mac users that do not use the Creative Suite..only Acrobat, Quark, etc. I've tried installing and re-installing through both Admin and User accounts, I've tried the AdobeBib XML change, I've tried enabling Root and installing, changing permission on the Acrobat folder, etc. all to no avail. I still get asked for Admin Authentication every time Acrobat and Distiller are opened (except on the Admin account side). This is happening on one particular Mac (G4, 1GB Ram, OS 10.4.3) for both Acrobat Standard 6 and 7 as well. The biggest issue that also happens in tandem with the Acrobat installs is the inability to print from Quark. I get the following error when printing: "The process "pictwpstops" terminated unexpectedly on signal 6." Because of the necessity to print Quark documents, I have uninstalled all Acrobat on the machines until we can get a fix. This resolves the printing problem with Quark. The only option left is to set up all users as Admin accounts - which I really do not want to do. Any other suggestions out there? I've got more information available if needed.

  • Help with "Admin user requires valid username and password" on fms2_console.swf page

Just installed FMS2 on Debian (etch, 2.16.5-1 kernel). When I
connect to localhost:1111/fms2_console.swf and get the infamous XML
output which includes the text, "Admin user requires valid username
and password." The *.xml and *.ini files haven't been touched after
installation. All four daemons (fmsedge, fmsmaster, fmscore,
fmsadmin) are running and listening on the correct ports.
Any tips? (I'm sure this is easy to solve...)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
FMIS 4.5 does not accept plain text password.
    Thanks,

  • Admin Password Not Working After Upgrade

So two days ago I decided to upgrade to Yosemite on my less than 3 month old macbook. Two days of pain.
After starting the upgrade, it got stuck on the reboot at the screen with the apply logo and the status bar at around 50%. I let it sit over night, tried multiple reboots, nothing would get it going.
I rebooted in recovery mode and did a reinstall. It ended up installing yosemite. However when I login none of my files or settings are there. If I log out and log back in again, my desktop shows up and my downloads (but no iPhotos).
When I go to users, I see two accounts with my name. 1 is the admin and the other says standard. The strange thing is the picture next to the admin account is the picture that shows up when logging onto the computer. However the current user shows a different picture. The problem is that I can't make any changes as my admin password isn't working (although I can login with it).
    Any suggestions?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.
