Is there a way to bring the server up with script while admin server is down. I see it possible with 11g . How about 8.1?

"If Managed Server Independence is enabled, the Managed Server will start, even though it cannot connect to the Administration Server. "
you can either do it with the startManagedWeblogic script, or by connecting to the Node Manager with WLST and starting the server.
    Only if MSI is on.

  • SOA Server getting down frequently

    Hi All,
    Following are the versions:
    WebLogic Version : 10.3.3.0
    SOA : 11.1.1.3.0
We are facing frequent server breakdown issues.
But we could not find the root cause for it.
Does anyone faced this scenario ?
What could be the possible reasons regarding this server down issue ??
In the error logs too we could not find any valuable information .
    Please add your suggestions.

  • 6.0 cluster startup without the admin server...

Is it possible to start a WL6.0 cluster without the admin server being up
and running? If not, are there any workarounds that eliminate the admin
server as a single point of failure?

              I have same questions.
1.The admin server's primary task is up the cluster? And if admin server is down
that can't affect the cluster running.
2.Is it right when the cluster is working, the useful ip is admin server's ip?For
              example,admin 10.10.10.1,cluster1 10.10.10.2,cluster2 10.10.10.3,the only useful
ip is 10.10.10.1 in the cluster.
3.Is it correct that because the only useful ip is 10.10.10.1,therefor my client
              access the cluster from 10.10.10.1?
When my admin server is down, then my system will be down.
4.which is the dispatch in the cluster system ?
my step of configuration of th cluster:
              1.add two managed servers to admin server and edit startweblogic.cmd;
              2.config cluster.(admin server address 10.10.10.1:8168,cluster address 10.10.10.2:7001,10.10.10.3:7001),multicast(237.0.0.1)
please help explain these questions!thanks a lot!

  • Stop managed server without node manager and admin server

What are the commonly used ways to stop managed Weblogic server without node manager running and without administration server running?
(I have only one solution: on the managed server startup dump process ID to a file, and then when I want to stop it, send a signal to this process ID and kill JVM. But it seems not very clean way.)
(The managed server is started when both node manager and admin server are down, and I provide boot.properties of admin server to the managed server to start.)
UPDATED: And I don't want to start neither admin server, nor node manager even temporarily.
    Edited by: user12163080 on Jun 24, 2010 4:40 AM

    Hai,
I read the Oracle weblogic wlst script document without Admin server you cannot connect the managed server through the WLST script. see the below lines
"The start command starts Managed Servers or clusters in a domain using Node Manager.
To use the start command, WLST must be connected to a running Administration Server.
To start Managed Servers without requiring a running Administration Server, use the
nmStart command with WLST connected to Node Manager."
"You shut down a server to which WLST is connected by entering the shutdown command
    without any arguments.
When connected to a Managed Server instance, you only use the shutdown command to shut
down the Managed Server instance to which WLST is connected; you cannot shut down another
server while connected to a Managed Server instance.
WLST uses Node Manager to shut down a Managed Server. When shutting down a Managed
Server, Node Manager must be running.
In the event of an error, the command returns"
They are two option if you are using adminserver then we can stop the any Managed server.
The option is if you are using the nodemanager without admin server we can stop the any Managed server.
The last final solution to kill the particular Managed server pid.

  • Programmatically start/stop applications without admin server connection

I know I can programmatically start/stop an application through WebLogic's deployment API, but the call needs to go through admin server. I was wondering if there's a way for an application to start/stop another application on the same managed server when the admin server is down. I remember a managed server could be started without an admin server (unless it's started for the first time). So I suppose there must be some way to programmatically start/stop local applications without an admin server as well.
Thank you for your help in advance.

  • Weblogic Admin Server Clustering

I am pretty new to WLS and was going through the doc on Clustering. It talks abt clustering managed servers.
Is there a way to cluster WL Admin Server, for eg : I fee I will not be able to access admin console if admin server is down.
so do we need to cluster Admin server also.
    thanks

Only one admin server is possible within a particular domain.
The managed servers will continue to operate normally without the presence of the admin server process, presuming that that the machine(s) hosting the managed servers are still alive.
Run your admin server on a physically separate host than you use for your managed servers. In addition to not impacting your managed servers in the case of an admin server outage, this also makes it easier to control access to your admin server since you can restrict access to the entire host more closely than on the managed servers' hosts.

  • Weblogic admin server cluster

    Hi,
I'm setting up WebLogic cluster (horizontal with 2 managed servers spanning across 2 machines).I would want to have admin server on each machine and only one admin server will be active whiel the second admin server will remain shutdown
.Can anyone please explain how I can set this up with 2 adminsitration servers and how do I make it active-passive mode for admin server and how i can bring it up in case of 1st admin server going down
Any documents would be really helpful
    thanks

There can be only 1 Admin per WebLogic Domain....not more than one.
Please refer to Know more about *"What is Administration Server?"* http://weblogic-wonders.com/weblogic/2010/06/18/weblogic-initials/
If you are talking about *" Whole Server Migration "* then please refer to: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/cluster/migration.html
Note:      Server migration is only supported when you use the SSH version of Node Manager. Server migration is not supported on Windows.
When a migratable server becomes unavailable for any reason, for example, if it hangs, loses network connectivity, or its host machine fails—migration is automatic. Upon failure, a migratable server is automatically restarted on the same machine if possible. If the migratable server cannot be restarted on the machine where it failed, it is migrated to another machine. In addition, an administrator can manually initiate migration of a server instance.

  • Can admin server be shutdown after all managed instances are started?

    Hi all,
I'll like to ask, can the admin instance be shutdown after I have started all the managed instances? I'll restarted the admin instance whenever I need to preform admin duties, like application redeployment, configuration of the domain.
I reckon the answer is yes. But I'll like to know will my cluster still function? ie is there clustering function after I shutdown the admin instance?

    Hi,
You can shutdown the admin server after all managed server instances are started. It will not effect working of cluster.
You will not be able to start any new managed server instance when the admin server is down, unless the managed server is starting in MSI mode.

  • JMS Migration without admin server

Does anyone know if there is a way to migrate the JMS service if the admin
              server is down?

I don't think you can migrate a JMS server when the admin server is down.
You have to use one of the administration tools, such as the administration
console, command line interface, or JMX. For either of these, you need to
have the admin server running (see the System Administration Tools section
              at http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs70/adminguide/overview.html#1040321).

  • Admin Server Location

    Hi
I have a cluster of n managed servers across m physical boxes. I am thinking about having the admin server on another separate physical server to increase robustness in a failure situation. This is particularly needed as I have cluster wide distrubuted JMS destinations. Does anyone know of any reasons why I should/should not do this.
              Thanks
              Matt

While it is reasonable to have your admin server on a seperate box you may end up wasting resources if you don't deploy managed servers on the admin server box, if there is enough spare resource on the admin server box then I suggest using that space to deploy more managed servers.
Managed servers can run even when the admin server is down so putting your admin server on it's own seperate box for that reason alone, is not justifiable IMHO :)
However one thing I do suggest is seperating network resources used for administration of your cluster from the workload of your cluster. We are currently performance tuning a cluster and becuase the Admin server is using the same network resources as the cluster the admin console becomes alomst unusable under heavy load.

  • What about the admin server not working?

    Hello,
I noticed that, even when the admin server is down, the LDAP server nicely serves search, create or modify clients requests. At least the extended operation persistent search works as well.
My question is what does stop working in the DS if the admin server is down?
    - Likely the Server console.
    - SNMP monitoring?
    - Replication?
    - SSL authentication?
    - What else?
My concern is of course Linux ES 3.0 support.
    Thanks for all your answers.

The admin server is just a http server used for administration with the console. Most admin functions can also be done from the command line, so it's really GUI administration that you are losing.
