Admin server in clustered environment

Hi,
In OBIEE 11g Clustered environment, we will have admin server and multiple managed servers(say 2) and OBIEE components running on both machines(some are active-active and some are active-passive). So if i have 2 servers say A and B, Do i need to start the Admin servers on both the machines or just on primary server A?
If not then primary server will have 1 Admin server and 1 managed server along with OBIEE components and secondary server will have managed server and OBIEE components right?
Thanks,
RM

The managed services will continue to run while trying to connect with the admin server. Hence if Admin Server A goes down, it does not mean the managed services will not continue to function.
Link: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/e13716/understand_domains.htm
Look for "what happens when if the Administration Server fails?"
I will have to get back on if Admin Server B needs to be manually started up or if it can be automated as part of HA.
I know the managed server can also be configured such that it can function as the Admin server. I have found a similar discussion on the followin thread surrounding 11.1.1.5: obiee 11g enterprise deployment
Mark if helps.

  • Production Server is Clustering environment..

    Dear Sap Gurus,
    *The Production Server is in Clustering environment, so the scenario is:-- *
    PRD1 =  Server1 (say ip= 192.13.12.10)
    PRD2 = Server2 (say ip = 192.13.12.11)
    PRD = To create join b/w the two Application Servers
    Now I have created a Report which gets downloaded(same path given in both PRD1 and PRD2) in the Application Server...
    Now while searching for the file path, due to clustering enviroment sometimes SYSTEM creates the file in PRD1(IP = 192.13.12.10) and sometimes in PRD2( IP=192.13.12.11).....(Randomly).....
    For Example: (say) A file named "abc.xls" has been created in PRD1.
    Main Problem which I am facing is while downloading this file to my Desktop.....
    I am using the Transaction CG3Y for it and when I'm providing the filename(with path) in the Source it says "file not found"....
    I guess the reason for this is that CG3y transaction is hitting the PRD2 Server where file does not exists.So kindly guide so that I am able to download the file to my Desktop......
    Pls guide......

    hi kartheek,
    i think u just missed some of steps while starting managed server using nodemanager in WLST.
    If u dont mind i'm sending some of steps just check it out. Once u try the same steps.
    1.start the ADMIN SERVER
    2.start the WLST
    java weblogic.WLST
    3.Connect to AdminServer
    connect('username',password','t3://adminhost:listenport')
    example: connect('weblogic','weblogic','t3://localhost:7001')
    4.start the nodemanager in WLST
    startNodeManager()
    5.connect to nodemanager
    nmConnect('username','password','nodemanagerhost',
    'nodemanagerlistenport','domainname','path to domain')
    example: nmConnect('weblogic','weblogic','localhost','5556','base_domain'
    'C:/bea/user_projects/domains/base_domain')
    6.start the managed server in WLST
    start('managedservername','Type','t3://managedhost:listenport')
    example:start('man1','Server','t3://localhost:7003')
    7.If u want to start cluster in WLST
    start('clustername','Type')
    example: start('cluster1','Cluster')
    If u want to start managed in Cluster u follow STEP-6 only

  • MSTDC Error in clustered Environment in while interacting to DB Server from BizTalk server

    Hi All,
    After completing all my required Biz-talk Integrations (All were related to WCF-Custom Adapter : SQL Binding), I deployed the same to the client environment. But, the same thing which worked for me in my development environment was giving some issues in
    the deployed environment.
    The main difference was, at client environment - The DB Server was clustered environment and the interaction was through the load balancer.
    The first issue I encountered was, there was firewall blocking the access to the DB server from Biz Talk server. Then after enabling and opening the Port 1433, the issue got fixed and I was able to communicate with the DB Server.
    After this, I was getting the error related to MSTDC. For this to work properly, in my BizTalk application Configuration, if i set the property for "UseAmbientTransaction" as false under "SqlBinding" for the WCF-Custom Send Port, it is
    working as expected!
    But, I heard from our Architects that the best approach is to set the property as "TRUE" for "UseAmbientTransaction" property.
    So I set the property as true and done the below configurations.
    1. Enabling Network DTC using "dcomcnfg.exe"
    2. Adding and enabling Fire wall exception for DTC.
    Even after making the above changes, I was getting the same error. Then after cross checking with DTCPing and DCTester on both local and deployed copy, i got the below difference.
    1. Port 135 (RPC EPM) was opened in my local environment but it was having "Filtered" access at the deployed copy.
    So my question is, after opening the above port, will it solve the issue?
    Secondly, is there any security threat ter opening the above Port?
    Any quick suggestion/solution is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Anand

    Hi Anand,
    Performing operations on SQL Server using BizTalk Server always involves two resources—the adapter connecting to SQL Server and the BizTalk Message Box residing on SQL Server. Hence, all operations performed using BizTalk Server are performed within the
    scope of an MSDTC transaction. So, to use the SQL adapter with BizTalk Server, you must always enable MSDTC. To enable the adapter to perform operations within the scope of an MSDTC transaction, you must configure MSDTC both on the computer running the SQL
    adapter and SQL Server. Also, you must add MSDTC to the exceptions list of Windows Firewall. That is the reason why recommend setting for this binding property is
    true; otherwise you might either experience message loss or duplicate messages, depending on whether you are performing inbound or outbound operations.
    Exception is for operations where the adapter client does not write any data to the SQL Server database, such as a Select operation, you might not want the additional overhead of performing the operations inside a transaction. In such cases,
    you can configure the SQL adapter to perform operations without a transactional context by setting the
    UseAmbientTransaction binding property to false.
    Just refer the link fo all the details:
    Configure MSDTC on SQL Server and Adapter Client

  • Migration from Clustered environment to VM

    SQL instance : 2008 R2
    Problem:  We are planning to migrate our sql server from clustered environment to VM.  There are several SQL instances on that cluster.
    Are there any instructions/tools available to migrate those instances from cluster to a VM?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    It would be better to start migration from scratch. Build a new VM and configure windows cluster on it. Then install SQL Server cluster and migrate database using backup and restore method. Move logins and jobs by scripting it out

  • Get a list of users logged on each server node in a clustered environment

    Hi,
    does anybody know if there is way to get a list of users which are logged on each server node in a clustered environment. Or maybe is there api for that so I could write an application which does that?
    Regards
    Ladislav

    Hi,
    about the code I was looking at - easily you can find out that these iviews are components of <b>com.sap.portal.admin.monitor.par</b>. The thread Thread Overview is implemented by: <i>com.sapportals.portal.admin.psm.PortalServerMonitor</i>. In <i>getThreadsData</i> method there is a parameter <b>portalMonitor</b> so it led me to this code in <i>doContent</i>:
    /* 143*/          IPortalMonitor portalMonitor = (IPortalMonitor)PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources().getService("com.sap.portal.runtime.application.monitor.PortalMonitor");
    /* 144*/          IPSMData psmData = portalMonitor.getIPSMDataInstance();
    So I have found <i>com.sap.portal.runtime.application.monitor.par</i> and there is a service implemented by <i>com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.monitor.PortalMonitor</i> where is <i>com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.monitor.MonitorCommunication</i>. And this is a service which calls all the nodes in the cluster around asking for info about the threads, requests, ... Here is a method <i>getMonitoringData</i> which works with object <i>com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.monitor.MonitorData</i>. Here in method <i>getThreadOverview</i>:
    /* 396*/          ApplThreadOverview oATOs[] = OverviewMonitor.getApplThreads();
    So in this <i>OverviewMonitor</i> the method <i>getApplThreads</i>:
                 public static ApplThreadOverview[] getApplThreads()
    /*  50*/          return ApplThreadMonitor.getApplThreads(false);
    from here:
    /* 130*/          ApplThreadMonitor hlpAppl = TaskMonitor.getApplThreadList();
    and this <i>ApplThreadMonitor</i> has:
                 private String userName;
                 private String reqName;
                 private String taskName;
                 private String compName;
                 private String action;
    So if you can get this (when the most of the classes mentioned is not in API but CORE part) on each node and ask for it from one place you got the user list at cluster nodes...
    In fact there can be a shortcut to get this info, I have found this ;o)

  • Error in Server log of one of the server  on the clustered environment(OBI)

    Hi
    We had setup Clustered Environment and when we are trying to log in on to the Primary Server which is also Primary Controller, everything is fine on front end but we had faced the following error in the server log as follows : "[46036] Internal Assertion: Condition m_hFile != hFileNull, file .\Src\mfcfile.cpp, line 447."
    Please provide help by letting me know what this error mean and how can we avoid this error.

    What happens if you disable your master BI server, do you get the error in the other BI Server log when you login to Presentation Services?
    The message is an internal error, you need to raise an SR with Oracle to determine why it's happening and how to prevent it.

  • Common reason for Mirage Server Failure in Clustered Environment and how clients will be switched to other server in a cluster

    Hi,
    Can Anybody share me the information regarding Common reason for Mirage Server Failure in Clustered Environment.
    And how clients will be switched to other server in a cluster to continue their operations from the failed server.
    Regards,
    Bathesha C

    Hello,
    if you have more than one mirage server configured with Load balancing (LB or MSFTNLB) the client would disconnect from the faulting server and then reconnect to an other server to progress with the action as before.
    All Mirage server are stateless and share the same SIS (single instance store) so any server can update or create CVD file set for an client.
    Hope that helps.

  • Clustered enviroments -Starting/Stopping Managed servers, NodeManager & Admin server from single node

    Hi,
    We have 5 node Weblogic cluster. At the time of some mass activities like patching we have to stop all our managed, Admin Servers and node manager and it takes a lot of time to do this by logging in to all 5 managed servers and stopping all components. Though we have node manager configured so we can stop managed servers from console itself, but still have to login to each server to stop NodeManager and Oracle Http Servers.
    Things become worse when wee have to shutdown almost 15-20 instances.
    Is there a way (using wlst or shell script) that we can do all these tasks from by logging in to just one server?
    Thanks,
    Suraj

    The simple code below would shutdown all the running Servers. Some of the APIs for ex MBeanHome are deprecated..still work though..if your concerned about that..I am working on the same using JMX API..if you want I could share that too. And also as described in the below link..you can Cluster stop and start using WLST commands.  Managing the Server Life Cycle - 12c Release 1 (12.1.1)

  • Weblogic Admin Server Clustering

    I am pretty new to WLS and was going through the doc on Clustering. It talks abt clustering managed servers.
    Is there a way to cluster WL Admin Server,for eg : I fee I will not be able to access admin console if admin server is down.
    so do we need to cluster Admin server also.
    thanks

    Only one admin server is possible within a particular domain.
    The managed servers will continue to operate normally without the presence of the admin server process, presuming that that the machine(s) hosting the managed servers are still alive.
    Run your admin server on a physically separate host than you use for your managed servers. In addition to not impacting your managed servers in the case of an admin server outage, this also makes it easier to control access to your admin server since you can restrict access to the entire host more closely than on the managed servers' hosts.

  • Howto Programatically discover clusters, admin server, managed servers

    Hi,
              I'm want to programatically discover what clusters, admins servers, and managed servers exist in my domain.
              I've tried using get MBeanHome, but in order to get that I must know the location of the admin server.
              I'd like to be able to discover from within my program the host name and port of the admin server,and then from there to be able to discover the managed servers and clusters that are running and on what machines/ ports they are running on.
              Is this possible.
              Cheers,

              Its possible, but there are no public APIs for directly doing this. I
              guess you could try looking up the local server's MBean and navigating
              to the admin server's MBean from there.
              You could probably also deduce it from the system property
              weblogic.management.host that you would have set to boot the managed
              server.

  • ORACLE WEBLogic 12C Clustering of Admin Server ?

    Hi ,
    I have setup WebLogic Server 12c on solaris 10 u11, as cluster.
    For cluster of managed servers, it works fine.
    My Question is, can we run Admin Server from two nodes of cluster?
    example:  Node 1, created Admin Server, Cluster (F-End1/F-End2) Managed Servers
    F-End1 on node1, and F-End2 on node2.
    Now for some reason, Node1 has some hardware problem, can i run Admin Server from Node2 ?
    I have followed the setup from this website<>
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/weblogic-11g-clustered-domains.php
    Followed Same, Pack/Unpack, Enroll.
    Now from Node 1, i can run, Node Manager, ./startweblogic.sh   and it takes me to the Admin Server.
    from there i can manage every thing.
    Question is, can i run Admin Server form Node2? if yes, how?

    Node1: 10.0.1.179     Admin Server :7001      F-End-1  7003  B-End1   7020
    Node2: 10.0.1.177                                       F-End-2   7003  B-End2   7020
    when i try to run the Admin Server from the Node2, i get error (By 1st running the Node Manager)

  • Install LCES on clustered environment (only DB server is clustered)

    Anybody experienced on above topic?
    My customer planning to have seperate Application Server and DB server for production environment and ONLY DB server is being clustered.
    I had yet to simulate the installation, just want to check with you guys is there any documentation on this kind of setup? Or is there anybody experience the same setup? What I can find is, prepareinstallcluster.pdf & clustering_websphere.pdf, which is only relevant to Application Server clustering.
    Thanks alot and appreciate your feed back!!

  • JMS Server JNDI not being replicated? (clustered environment)

    Hello,
    First of all, my envinronment is Weblogic 6.1 sp2, JDK 1.3.1, Windows
    My current production and test environments consist, each one of them, of
    clusters with one admin server (ProdAdmin) and two managed servers (Prod1
    and Prod2). One of the managed servers (Prod1) is the server to which the
    JMS server is deployed and everything works fine.
    Now I'm trying to add another managed server to the cluster. The idea is to
    target the JMS Server (and nothing else) to this node. We don't want the JMS
    server to be running in Prod1 and the new server, named ProdJMS, won't even
    have any deployed beans or the startup class targeted to it. Just the JMS
    server. Here our problems start.
    I'm able to start this ProdJMS node with no problems. However, when I start
    Prod1 it seems that the JMS server is not binded. This is the exception
    we're getting when a message-driven bean is being deployed (I get the same
    exception trying to create other):
    ------- snip -------------
    <May 21, 2002 12:11:42 PM EDT> <Warning> <EJB> <The Message-Driven EJB:
    CacheUpdateBean is unable to connect to the JMS
    destination: securityChanges. The EJB container will automatically attempt
    to re-establish the connection with the JMS s
    erver. This warning may occur during WebLogic Cluster start-up if the JMS
    destination is located on another WebLogic Ser
    ver instance. When the JMS server connection is re-established, the
    Message-Driven EJB will again receive JMS messages.

    If I deploy the CacheUpdateBean bean to ProdJMS itself, I don't have this
    exception. The weird thing is that when I check the JDNI tree of Prod1 I'm
    actually able to see "weblogic.jms.S:Prod1", which is the name that seems
    not to be binded. Again, if I deploy the JMS Server to Prod1, for example,
    everything works fine. If I deploy the JMS server to a server with only the
    JMS server I get the mentioned JNDI exception.
    I would appreciate if you could give me help me solving this problem.
    Thanks in a dvance for any help.

    5. Restart Prod1 and Prod2
