Administer Websites - no websites (in CS3)
Hello,
I am using Contribute CS3.
When I go to Edit -> Administer Websites, it shows <no websites> greyed out.
I have reinstalled Contribute from scratch and recreated the connection twice with the same results.
When I select "My Connections", the administrator is displayed as "[email protected]", I have no idea who that is and, whoever that may be, certainly isn't the administrator I want. Any attempt to change the administrator asks for a password which I have no idea what it may be.
This is the first website I created a connection to.
I need to somehow set the administrator to the rightful administrator (not [email protected]) and apparently cannot do so until the <no website> problem is fixed.
help solving this problem is greatly appreciated,
Thank you,
John.
Hello Dominic,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I do have FTP access access to the website. I will try your suggestion when my client comes back from his business trip. At that time, I will set your suggestion to "correct"/"helpful" as appropriate
I am just being cautious to wait until he is back. I'll make a backup of any files I modify anyway.
Again, thank you, I have a feeling that what you suggested will work,
John.

Administer Websites grayed out
I am trying to be the administrator of a web site. The client
has contribute and so do I. They already have a role as publisher,
on their computer. I am trying to get her to make me a key to be
administrator, but I am not sure what to tell her. How can she just
be a publisher and not an administrator. I initially created the
site in Dreamweaver with templates. At any rate getting back to my
problem, I have received a connection key from her but only as
publisher and my options in windows Edit > Administer Websites
are grayed out. Any suggestions? ThanksBest way to handle this is to create a new connection
manually yourself (you need the ftp-data of course). You then
choose to be the administrator. If your client can create
connection keys, she also is an administrtor. -
Can't administer Contribute site in DW CS3
From Help:
Click the Administer Site in Contribute button.
Note: This button does not appear if you have not enabled
Contribute compatibility.
If prompted, enter the administrator password, and then click
OK.
The Administer Website dialog box appears.
I enabled Contribute Compatibility. I clicked the Test button
and the test is successful. I click the Administer Site in
Contribute button and DW connects to the server, but the Administer
Website dialog box does not appear. I want to be able to send a
connection key to myself. Although the site ftp is properly set up
in DW, I forgot the ftp password and therefore can't set up the
site in Contribute (the .ste file can't be imported into
Contribute). Thanks in advance for any help.> I click the Administer Site in Contribute button and DW

Do you have Contribute installed on this machine?
That dialog box is not within dreamweaver, it's a link to
open the dialog
box in Contribute.

There are two possibles:
One: There is the site's FTP password.
If you haven't written that down on paper somewhere, it can
be recovered
from the dw information.
do a google search for recover dreamweaver password or post
back if can't
find it.
Two: There is the site's Contribute Admin Password.
If you've lost that, there is still a couple of ways to reset
it.
Post back if that is what you need.

His website is being administered with a newer version of Contribute problem...
hello...
i was considering an upgrade to adobe master suite, so i downloaded a trial verison on my mac laptop. since then, the trial has expired, and i have purchased a new laptop as the old one was on it's way out.
on my new laptop i re-loaded and re-activated my contribute CS3 which i purchased a few years ago, but as i had accessed my website using the CS5, i can no longer connect to it on CS3...and as the trial version of CS5 has expired, i can't go in and switch it to "transition" mode...
what can i do to access my website with CS3? kinda desperate to make some updates!
thank you!If you have FTP credentials to access your server, then you can FTP to your server and delete the cthub***.csi file under _mm folder. (Better to take backup before deleting).
Note:- This will remove all you adminitrative settings and roles. Your site will be link a unadminitered site. -
Hi guys,
I just finished my flash website in cs3 with as3. After this
I decided to upload these .swf files into webserver with SmartFTP
program. The problem is that when I start editing my website (the
index.html) in Contribute cs3 the program
alerts me with an error. This why the whole page is not
working on internet. I´m sure that I uploaded every necessary
flash site files from SmartFTP into the server (swf files,
index.html file and ac_runactive_content.js)

Help removing old user ID for C3 so I can edit website using trial CS5
Hello all, I used to manage my website using Contribute 3 but it kept having hanging issues (I'm using MAC OS X 10.5.8) while editing - had to force quit numerous times. Decided to download a trial version of CS 5 which has been working fine except that it won't let me edit one page of my site stating "You can't perform the operation on this page now because DHinden (insert e-mail address) is currently editing or reviewing it". DHinden was my old user ID for Contribute 3, I guess it didn't 'log me out' properly when I force quit the program. Does anyone have any solutions to this situation? I've tried re-installing C3 but it hasn't worked. Not sure if there's anything I can do using the trial version of CS5. Would appreciate any help. Thanks and advance for your assistance. Regards, Derek
Hi,
Can you check in the Manage Sent Drafts dialog, whether the page is listed or not? To open the Manage Sent Drafts dialog, click Edit -> Administer Websites -> Manage Sent Drafts menu item. Note that, you should have created your website connection before. And, to see the list of all the drafts in review, you should connect as Administrator.
If you see that the page is listed in the Manage Sent Drafts dialog, select the draft, and do Undo Checkout, or Change Owner and assign the draft to yourself.
Hope this helps. -
How to edit PPD List Illustrator CS3?
Hi all,
Recently updated a printer driver, which has resulted in a really long PPD list through which I have to scroll when I send something to print. I know in Quark there's a way that one can edit the list by turning off unwanted PPDs. Is this possible in Illustrator? a nd how might I do it?
This is probably really simple, but I'm relatively new to CS3 so anyone who could enlighten me would be appreciated.
Thanks, Siobhan.

Compatibility between CS3 and earlier versions?
As the web developer I have Contribute version 3, but some of
my new clients
will be buying the latest Contribute CS3 to update their site
pages. Can I
still set up their roles and editing rights for a site and
create a
connection key to send to them that will work for them in
Contribute CS3
without difficulty? And can either of us still edit the site
pages,
regardless of the fact that we are each using different
versions of
Contribute?
In conclusion, are there any backward compatibility issues I
should be aware
of between the newer version and older versions of CS3 when
administering,
and connecting to, the same website?
Thanks in advance.
(Please reply to forum. E-mail address is bogus to prevent
spam)Thanks for the advice.

I set up a site in DW CS4 and created a connection key in Contribute CS4. I sent a connection key to my client who has Contribute CS3. The client is getting this message when she goes throught he connection process: "This site is being administered with a newer version of Contribute. For more information please contact the administrator."
What do I need to do to allow a CS3 user access a CS4 setup? When I tried to create the connection key in CS3, I get the same message and I'm the Administrator.Go to Edit>Administer websites. Choose the site. In the left column go to "compatibility" and choose "transition mode".

Contribute CS3 & Dreamweaver CS3
I do volunteer work for a pet rescue website. I started out
editing their pages with Dreamweaver CS3. When the work load got
out of control, one of the rescue members decided to help out by
using Contribute CS3. After a few months, I noticed there was a lot
of lag loading this one page we were both updating on a daily
basis.
In Dreamweaver, in design mode, the page appeared to be fine
but when looking at the source code, there were thousands of empty
lines that had been generating for who knows what reason. The
amount of lines was over 50K. I manually went in there and deleted
all the empty lines and ended up with about 600 lines total of
code. Everything was back to normal and my helper continued using
Contribute CS3 and I used DW, until a few days later when I noticed
the blank lines were back. Not as many as there were before but
they were certainly adding up and were definitely adding to the
loading time.
I did what I could to clean up the code and although there
are some empty lines left at the top of the file, the rest of the
file is ok now. I asked the Contribute helper to not make anymore
updates for the time being. I haven't seen any more blank lines
added since she stopped. So my best guess is that Contribute CS3 is
causing all the problems.
Is there something in Contribute CS3 publishing preferences
that may be causing this problem? I couldn't find anything in the
manuals except something about Line Breaks but that didn't have
anything to do with the code. Could it also be a server problem?
Not sure where I would begin looking. Any help would be
appreciated.
Here is a link to the file I am referring to:
http://www.norcalgsprescue.com/adopt.shtml
Thanks!I've had similar issues, but not to the extent you seem to be
getting it. I know if you are using templates or server-side code,
the lines that do not propagage to your web client are removed, but
the source code lines are not collapsed...
Anyway, when I had a similar problem, it would putting an
extra line for each line in the html code... If you are on a
Linux/Unix Web server... go to Administer Website...Edit Role
Settings...Select the 'Editing' option on the left side of the
panel... at the very bottom, make sure 'Line Break Type' is set to
'Unix (LF)'
Hope that helps -

Getting error after administrator who upgraded from CS3 to CS4
Hi,
We have had an administrator who upgraded from CS3 to CS4.
However, any of our other users still using CS3 now get the
following error message:
“The website is being administered with a newer version
of Contribute. For more information contact this website's
administrator."
Do you know any way around this issue?
Thanks,

Hi,
No they don't have to, at least I think so. If your
administror go to the menubar: Contribute>Administer
Websites> Choose the site you wish to set the settings for. In
'Compatibility' choose 'Transition Mode' and klik OK. This should
allow the other users to keep working in their version of
Contribute.
I say 'should'... Read my entry in the general discussion
forum.

I see on Adobe's website that CS3 Web Premium is certified
for Vista 32. Has anyone installed it on Vista 64 and if so, does
it work? After spending 3 weeks getting Studio 8 to work properly
on Vista 64 (thanks to all in the forum for your help there), I
don't want to upgrade until I know for sure its going to work.
Cheers
