Administration differences between an As Java system and an As ABAP system?

Hi, I'm not that familiar with SAP systems that are As Java based only, so apologies in advance if I ask real stupid questions here!!
Can someone please explain how one logs onto an As Java only system?... ie without the ABAP stack does one still use the SAP logon pad or am I getting confused here totally???
Also how does one do transports in an As Java system?
If you could send me a document that explains the main differences between an As ABAP system and an As Java system, particularly the differences in administrating these systems that would be very useful. My email address is [email protected]
Many thanks
Ash

Hi,
Can someone please explain how one logs onto an As Java only system?.
You can login through browser, use NetWeaver Administrator for most of your activities. There is also Visual Administrator/ Config tool etc these have seperate GUIs.
It would not be easy to list out the options but i suggest you read understand info from help regarding the details below so that you can administer Java servers:
Visual Administrator
NetWeaver Administrator
Config tool.
SDM
With the knowledge of the tools above you can start of administrating Java servers.
Also how does one do transports in an As Java system?
You install Portal on Java server and then do transports. You should be having a system administration role.
Please do a search in help.sap.com and you will find loads of data on WEBAS Java administration.
Thanks & regards,
Vijith

  • Difference between add-in Java-Stack and standalone stacks

    Hello experts,
    is there any difference between a Java-Stack as add-in in ABAP AS and two standalone stacks, aside from that the standalone systems are physically seperated. What other reasons are there to choose the one or the other? Is it performance or scalability? Are there any differences for developers (for example on XI or BI) or is the difference only important for administrators?
    Best regards,

  • Difference between interfaces in Java API and user defined interfaces

    Is there any differences between the interfaces (such as KeyListener, ActionListener and EventListener etc.,) in Java API and the user defined interfaces.
    The user defined interfaces seems to be empty without any functionality (except its constant and method declarations). But the interfaces in Java API seems to have some functionality behind them, since they route the device events to the programs.
    Actually what is happening behind the Java API's interfaces?
    Please clarify.

    Ummm, no they are not (or at least some of them are not). Also, some things we support now we may not have supported in a previous release.
    If you look at the section 2 (Working with TimesTen Data Stores0 in the TimesTen Java Developer's Guide and look at the sections:
    TimesTen JDBC Extensions
    Additional TimesTen classes and interfaces
    then you will see the extra functionality documented there. Of course, if you do not need any of this functionality then you can simply treat them as the base classes from java.sql and they will work fine so it is easy to make most of your code generic.

  • What is the difference between the normal function module and bapi function

    hi,
    what is the difference between the normal function module and bapi function module.

    Hi
    BAPI stands for Business API(Application Program Interface).
    A BAPI is remotely enabled function module ie it can be invoked from remote programs like standalone JAVA programs, web interface etc..
    You can make your function module remotely enabled in attributes of Function module but
    A BAPI are standard SAP function modules provided by SAP for remote access. Also they are part of Businees Objest Repository(BOR).
    BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects. You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository) which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA. in this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types. These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types. Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs. Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.

  • Difference between SAP Learning Solution & Training and Event Manag

    Hi All,
    Can anyone tell me the Difference between SAP Learning Solution & Training and Event Manag.
    Which approach would be recommended for the Training and Event Management implementation..
    Pls let me know the pro's and con's of both the approaches.
    Regards
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    Training and Event Management (now called <b>Training Management (TEM)</b>, sometimes referred to as PE in SAP documentation). Employees/Learners were able to book courses and view their training history via Employee Self-Service, and supported the full suite of classroom training administration functions.
    SAP’s current learning software is SAP’s Learning Solution (LSO). Companies still can use TEM to administer classroom-only training or they can choose to leverage LSO functionality to deliver classroom training as well as Web-based training, virtual classrooms, blended learning, and collaboration to their employees.
    Training Management (TEM) serves as the foundation of SAP’s Learning Solution (LSO). However, LSO includes much new functionality such as administering and delivering Web-based training, virtual classrooms, curricula, and online tests. The entire LSO consists of SAP Authoring Environment, Content Management System (CMS), Learning Management System (LMS), Learning Portal, Content Player, Offline Player, Business Intelligence (BI), and the Collaboration functionality.

  • What is the difference between a tablespace, a segment and an extent ?

    What is the difference between a tablespace, a segment and an extent ? Please explain in layman terms since I'm a total newbie to Oracle.
    Regards
    Gony

    Hi,
    These are logical structure of database
    1. Tablespace : A database is divided into logical storage units called tablespaces, which group related logical structures together. For example, tablespaces commonly group together all application objects to simplify some administrative operations.
    2.Segments
    Above extents, the level of logical database storage is a segment. A segment is a set of extents allocated for a certain logical structure. The following table describes the different types of segments.
    Segment Description
    Data segment
    Each nonclustered table has a data segment. All table data is stored in the extents of the data segment.
    For a partitioned table, each partition has a data segment.
    Each cluster has a data segment. The data of every table in the cluster is stored in the cluster's data segment.
    Index segment
    Each index has an index segment that stores all of its data.
    For a partitioned index, each partition has an index segment.
    Temporary segment
    Temporary segments are created by Oracle when a SQL statement needs a temporary work area to complete execution. When the statement finishes execution, the extents in the temporary segment are returned to the system for future use.
    Rollback segment
    If you are operating in automatic undo management mode, then the database server manages undo space using tablespaces. Oracle Corporation recommends that you use "Automatic Undo Management" management.
    3. Extents
    The next level of logical database space is an extent. An extent is a specific number of contiguous data blocks, obtained in a single allocation, used to store a specific type of information.

  • What's the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object

    hi guys, i wanna know the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object.
    for eg.
    Car c1;
    Car c2 = null;after the 2 lines , 2 Car obj-referance have been created, but no Car obj.
    1.so c2 is not refering to any object, so where do we put the null?in the heap?
    2.as no c2 is not refering to any object, what's the difference between c2 and c1?
    3.and where we store the difference-information?in the heap?

    For local variables you can't have "Car c1;" the compiler will complain.That's not true. It will only complain if you try to use it without initializing it.
    You can have (never used, so compiler doesn't care):
    public void doSomething()
       Car c1;
       System.out.println("Hello");
    }or you can have (definitely initialized, so doesn't have to be initialized where declared):
    public void doSomething(boolean goldClubMember)
       Car c1;
       if (goldClubMember)
           c1 = new Car("Lexus");
       else
           c1 = new Car("Kia");
       System.out.println("You can rent a " + c1.getMake());
    }

  • Difference between checking Objects in SU24 and in ABAP code

    Hi all,
    What is the difference between objects checked in SU24 and the objects checked in ABAP Code.
    I think if objects are even checked to No in SU24 and they are in ABAP code then user is able is able to execute that object, is this correct?
    and vice versa, if objects are checked to yes in su24 and not in the ABAP code then user wont be able to excute? is this correct
    or what is the purpose of maintaing objects both in SU24 and in ABAP Code.

    It is context specific, when the context is known to the customer system where the code is running => You cannot activate a check in SU24 if it is not coded anywhere (please distingish between starting a transaction, using it, and navigating further from that transaction...). The only case where SAP does what you seem to be assuming (or hoping for...) is infact to turn an authority-check off in some cases or to make the calling context known when it is remote (in which case sy-tcode or the entry point context is not known)...
    *It is not to turn the check on when it is not coded anywhere!!!
    Perhaps you would like to phrase your final question just one more time.

  • Difference between Asset Intelligence 09A report and reports in the Software Metering folder

    Dear all,
    I can not seem to grasp the difference between Asset Intelligence 09x reports and reports in the Software Metering folder. Do they extract conclusions based on the same data and which data are those? I also have come to notice that there are occasional dicrepancies
    between them. Why would this be?

    Hi,
    1. Software metering allows you to create a rule and meter application usage very granular, when it is started, how many times , how long it has been used e.t.c, Asset intellegence doesn't require you to create any rules it will only inventory start/stop
    so you can get reports like "all computers that hasn't started a application in x days".
    2.It depends on the license agreement for that application, but yes you can get how many has started a specific application within a timeframe.
    3.No

  • Differences Between The Asus P67 EVO And Pro?

    Anyone know of the differences between the Asus P67 EVO and the Pro?
    I want to buy an Asus P67 Pro Motherboard today, but there are only 2 left at Fry's and they are both open-box returns and the other Fry's has only 6 left and ALL are open-box returns.  So I'm thinking there may be an issue with the Pro's?
    Is the EVO just as good?
    On the Asus site specs, it seems the only differences are:
    (and I'm not sure what any of the following means)
    -On the Pro, the PCIe x16-3 slot shares bandwidth with the ESATA12
    -On the EVO, the PCIe x16-3 slot shares bandwidth with the ESATA3G and the PESATA3G
    -The EVO has dual LAN's
    -The EVO has a CMOS Switch
    -The Pro has the "System Panel" Q-Connector
    Adobe seems to be heading towards allowing 2 video cards.
    Would the EVO limit me if this happens?
    I notice there's only one EVO on the PPBM5 site in the upper realms (Novak).
    There seems to be more Pro's.
    I don't plan on doing huge overclocking, maybe minor.
    Components to be used:
    -i7 2600K
    -Corsair Vengeance 16GB
    -Corsair AX 850 Watt Gold
    -EVGA GTX 460 1GB Superclocked
    -OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB
    -Seagate Barracuda 3GB Storage
    -Seagate Barracuda 1GB for Exports, Page File, Previews, Media Cache
    -Seagate Barracuda 3GB Storage in  Acomdata Samba External Enclosure for Backup

    Any help would be appreciated.
