  • L455D-S5976 administrator password forgotten

This is my first computer. I was trying to be able to block some sites from my kids and I'm assuming I misunderstood or didn't know what I was doing. I put a password on my site and I was the "administrator" and now I have forgotten it & I can not get on or "allow" any updates or whatever. Can someone please help me get it off or get around it?

    Bizarre!
I can't imagine what you're looking at. My picture came from Registry Editor in a 32-bit Windows 7 machine.
Does the window say Registry Editor in the title bar like mine?
Let's try to make a picture and attach it to your message. This is Lesson 1.
    1. Learn to bring up Microsoft's Paint program. You can do that by putting this into the Start/Search field.
       mspaint
For convenience, make a shortcut to that if you know how.
    2. Locate your Print Screen key. It should say something like PrtScn on it. It may require you to hold down the Fn or shift key to get that function. When you press that button, your screen is copied to your clipboard.
    3. Press the button to capture your screen. Open Paint, click on the window, and then press Ctrl + V to paste the picture in.
    4. Practice that until you nail it down.

  • Restore to factory settings - Administrator Password forgotten

    Hello all,
I purchased around 2 years ago a LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw which works perfectly so far.
I played around with the settings in the beginning and thinking that someone might mess my desired setup printer's settings I decided to enter and Admin Password.
Big mistake because as the printer was working perfectly I didn't have to use that password for quite a long time (more than a year). Recently we changed our interner service provider and when trying to re-do the wireless connection I have no luck and only frustration, because I have to unlock setting through the Admin Password.
I am quite surprised these printers don't have a hard reset button (you know, the one you hold for 30 seconds to get everything as when purchased) same way routers do. I looked everywhere for a way of just having the printer back to the default setting so I reconfigure everything.
Does anyone know how this can be done? I would still enjoy very much all of my printer's features if possible.
    Thanks!

    Hi @cibryan ,
I see by your post that you need to reset the password on the printer. I can help you.
I can send you that information in a private message.

  • Resetting a forgotten Administrator Password

I'm helping a friend who has an iMAC G5 which currently runs Mac OS X 10.4.8, (Tiger), and has forgotten his administrator password. The original discs for this machine are Tiger Mac OS X 10.2.3. We've already tried using the install disc (disc 1). We put the disc in and restarted the system, holding down the C key when the tone was heard and continued to hold it until the spinning gear appeared. It seems to load the CD because we could hear it grind as the system started up and we noticed small file-folder icons appear in the center of the screen with a question mark, but eventually it seemed to load the OS from teh hard drive and started as usual, with a Finder window open browsing the CD. From everything we've read, we should have instead seen the installation program where we'd have the chance to reset the administrator password. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks!

Hi LLApple, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Yes, you should've sen the Installer, but...
I wouldn't try changing Tiger's Passwords with a Jaguar or Panther Install Disk at all.

  • Complications resolving forgotten administrator password...

Hi. I have an imac 10.5.8 which been in storage for a year or so. Unfortunately I have forgotten the administrator password. I have spent most of the day in forums but am still unable to resolve the issue. I would like to either use terminal to set up a new administrator account, or preferably to use the startup disc to reset my password.
I am not able to reboot in single user mode. I must have set up firmware protection when i got the imac years ago. (I cant fix this without the administrator password.)
...so I can't open terminal or the start up disc from the login screen.
I have tried opening terminal from the guest account (the only account I can get into)  and using these instructions:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3506318
but terminal tells me that I do not have permission to do this.
I have tried numerous times to open the reset password application in the Utilities folder in the startup disc from within the guest account, but everytime it quits unexpectedly.
At a loss as to what to do. Would appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

Maybe your are getting the firmware password?  Do you see this image?

Then, the PRAM must be reset 3 times. (Command + Option + p + r).

  • I have forgotten my administrator password and can't find my Mac OS X Install Dvd..what can I do?

I have forgotten my administrator password and can't find my Mac OS X Install Dvd to reset it, what can I do?

    OK, try this:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/
Be very very careful if you decide to use Terminal. Even a small typing error can cause a disaster. And terminal commands must be typed exactly as shown, including spaces.
    Good luck.
p.s. Your Apple ID and password - different from the computer log in password - are what you used to get to this discussion.

If you're using FileVault, you first have to unlock the startup volume in Disk Utility. Select it and click the Unlock button in the toolbar. Of course, this is only possible if you know another password to unlock the volume. If you don't, follow instead these instructions.

I've forgotten my administrator password and can't download software. can anyone advise how to reset a new password without having the original?

    Forgot Your Account Password
    For Snow Leopard and earlier
Mac OS X 10.6- If you forget your administrator password
    For Lion/Mountain Lion
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
Or see Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password and
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
If you are unable to boot from an installer DVD:
(these will only work on Leopard or earlier)
      1. Boot to Safe Mode by restarting and after the chime press and hold down
the COMMAND-S keys until a black screen with white type appears.
      2. At the prompt, type the following commands pressing return after each
          command line:
         /sbin/fsck -yf
If you do not receive a "Filesystem OK" message then repeat this command
until you do.  If after seven tries you still do not receive a "Filesystem OK"
message, then the system is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
         mount -uw /
         cd /private/var/db/netinfo
         mv local.nidb local.old
         rm ../.AppleSetupDone
         shutdown -r now
The second-to-last command above will cause OS X to think that the operating system is newly installed, and when the new owner starts up the computer it will send him/her to the startup wizard where he/she can start a new user without reinstalling.
This last method does not actually change a password. It simply removes the user accounts and lets you create an initial admin account as if the computer were new out of the box.
Reset Admin Password Using The Terminal
You can reset the password by printing out (or writing down) and carefully following these steps.
First, find the short name of the admin user on the machine. The easiest way of doing this is by looking at what the directory is called in the Users folder.
Now, start in Single-user Mode. It should boot into a command line.
Enter these exact lines. Press RETURN after each.
    mount -uw /
    ifconfig lo0 up
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    netinfod -s local
Now you'll need that short name. Enter "passwd", a space, and the short name of the admin. For example, if the admin was rather prosaically called "imadmin", you would enter "passwd imadmin".
The computer will now prompt you to change the password for "lmadmin" (or whatever the short name was). Go ahead and enter a new password.
    Now, enter:
    sync
    reboot
and the machine will reboot. The admin password should now be changed.

  • HT1349 Forgotten administrator password

I have forgotten my administrator password to my MAC OS X desktop, but when I insert the Installer CD and restart computer to try and reset password it will only give me the option of reseting 'root system administrator' passoword. My user name is not available in the drop down menu.
Is there anyway of reseting the password without losing all the information, data and photos stored on my computer?

Sorry for the question but what password do you mean exactly; the Windows admin password or the BIOS password.
If you mean the BIOS password then Ive bad news for you; only the ASP could remove the BIOS password.
If you are meaning the windows admin password then you will have to reinstall the OS again to get an access to the OS.
Usually you could boot from the Recovery disk and after a short time the OS would be installed and you would get the notebook with factory settings. Like at the first day of purchase

If it's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the Option key held down, click on it, and use the Reset Password utility.
If it's running Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Command and R keys held down, open the Terminal, and use the resetpassword command:
