Administrator password lost

In the process of eliminating an iPhoto importing problem where I could not import photos from a camera, the Genius at the A Store suggested a clean install of Snow Leopard ( this is an older iMac ) which we did.  Somehow we now can not get past the administrator sign in box.  The password does not work.  I used the utility on the install disk to reset it but that did not migrate to the rest of the system, like the keychain access.  I -  don't - know - what - to - do next. I have a clean install of the OS and have attempted a Time machine restore but am up against the requirement for an administrator name and password which do not any longer work.  It even offers the appropriate hint for the password.  Any suggestion will be deeply appreciated.  Jerry H

The suggestion you offered I believe to be correct, however, I am stopped from changing anything basic by the same requirement for the admin name and password.  I have tried erasing from the utilities program on the installation disk and came up against the same thing.  There HAS to be a way to erase and install the os without having to have the old and probably corrupted password.  At every major corner we are asked for that same information.  INTERESTINGLY the log-in password works, so we can get into the system which is a clean install itself.  When I attempt to migrate user files it wants the unworkable password again.
I have even tried to get into the Root Directory and do not seem to be able to do that for the same reasons.  From there I felt I might be able to change anything.
I do not want to, but it seems that I will have to take it into the A store again.  I am not sure how long their helping arm will be.  They did the clean install for me, however.
Thank you for your help.

  • Help - Lost Administrator Password: Recovery Desktop Frozen

I have an early 2009 24" iMac running 10.7.4.  I have Find my Mac active and have somehow lost my administrator password.
I have seen other questions and answers.  I cannot log out to reset the password.  Command + R takes me to the recovery desktop.  Track pad and arrow keys allow me to navigate around the recovery screen but I am unable to select Utlilities>Terminal.  In fact I cannot select any of the other options e.g. re-install Lion etc.
Getting desparate, so please, can anyone help?

  • Lost Administrative Password and Have to update my flash player. How Can I get around this for updates?

Sure needing help here. I've lost my administrative password on my mac and have to update my adobe flash player. I've researched several, seemingly (to me) complicated ways around this. Does anyone have an easy solution.  Really need this back up and running! Thanks in advance.

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html

I've forgotten my administrator password for my macbook pro and don't have the original OS X disc; I do have the OS X disc for my iMac.  Can I use this to reset the password?

You have nothing to loose by trying it.
I doubt it will boot but try it anyhow.
You will need to contact Apple for replacement install disks.

    Hi Richard,

  • Lost administrator password, upgrade osx- boot from firewire?

Hi- I have an old g3 running OS X 10.3.9. I no longer have the administrator password. I also have another g3 running 10.4.11 and the startup disks that came with that (don't know which version of OS X came with that computer- probably 10.3.something) as well as an external drive that has a backup of the computer with 10.4.11. What I'd like to do is to upgrade the g3 that is currently running 10.3.9 to a later version so that I can run a later version of itunes. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to do this? If need be I could probably buy a copy of OS 10.4. if I have to. Thanks. -Howard

You could probably check the specifications of the computers
against their availability to run specific system software, from
the online information from http://everymac.com/ or go and
see if you can use a download of MacTracker's database.
    • MacTracker - http://mactracker.ca
You have to be more specific with each Mac as the parts
and software needed to repair or upgrade them changed
over time, and the product updates limit compatibility.
    • computer info - by serial number - service:
    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
A retail install disc of whatever appropriate later OS X
version that the computer hardware you have can use
would have to be purchased from individuals or from
resellers on auction sites or computer user sites; or a
chance find on a local craigslist. If you know of a local
Apple User Group, maybe someone went to a school
auction and got a truckload of old Macs & software(?)
The items you may need could be hiding in someones
garage or garden shed; sadly, some get tossed away.
Hopefully you can help re-cycle them - as computers.
When you upgrade the OS in an older computer, the
RAM quality & amount, and hard drive, should be
upgraded to support these greater hardware demands.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Lost Upgrade Assistant GUI's administrator password

    Dear Gurus,
recently we had upgrade from 4.6c to ECC6,
everything was done alright, until step SPDD and SPAU modification
I reach the SPDD and SPAU modification last February 6th, 2009
yesterday, our technical and functional consultants just finished the SPDD and SPAU modification.
Today I want to continue with the upgrade steps.
as usual, I run command java -cp ua.jar UaServer
then in client I run java -cp uagui.jar UaGui
when I try to login using administrator password, it keep say that I input wrong password for administrator role.
it is shame on me that I didnt write down the password, though I think that I put the correct password since the password is generic (I use same password for all other things in upgrade process)
    my question is
is there any way to change the password for administrator so I can continue my upgrade process ?
    notes
i've tried to google and go to SAP notes, I cant find anything
    thanks

    Hi AC,
my log file as follow, I know this step is only 2-3 steps before finished (I did upgrade simulation in sandbox system).
do you think that my upgrade is safe once i reach this level ?
    thanks !
Besides the adjustments in transaction SPAU your upgrade
is completed now and productive operation is possible.
All SPAU activities can be performed without SSCR for
a period of 14 days after you first entered this phase.
Do  n o t  continue with SAPup if you plan to use the
result of the adjustments for any subsequent SAP system.
Exit now and restart SAPup, after SPAU has been finished.
    ? adjustments completed
    ? continue
    ? exit
Waiting for input since Feb 6, 2009 5:02:28 PM
    > exit
    Connection to SAPup  was closed#
