Administrator permissions

Good morning people,
Just a quick query. After doing a clean install of Lion, I have it running more or less as I want it to. However, I have (I am assuming) 2 permissons issues with which I was wondering if anyone could help me?
My setup is that I have an Admin account and 2 standard user accounts. I basically do this for security and I use one of the standard accounts as my regular login, one for school and keep the Admin there so that all changes require a password.
However, from the Admin account I am unable to access any of the user folders. I thought as Admin by default I would have read/write access to all areas.. is this not the case?
Secondly, to try and gain access to my user account from the admin account I changed the permissions to grant admin access. However, and I do not know if this is as a result of this. when I open disk utility from my standard account and am prompted for the admin password, disk utility freezes. and the pop up box crawls to a snails pace (3 mins for a keystroke to register)
Have I been a bit silly here or is there something that needs tweeking?
Any help you can give would be apreciated.

Not sure if this will work but it's worth a try

  • Office 365 MP Config Issue - Account doesn't have administrator permissions

    SCOM 2012 R2 RU3 | Windows Server 2012 R2
I just configured this MP in the environment using the following references:
    Office 365 MP Operations Guide
    Reference 1
    Reference 2
In addition I've configured the Office 365 Subscription Proxy secure reference.
When looking in the SCOM console I only see one error:
    Source:   Office 365 Monitoring
Full Path Name:    Office 365 Monitoring
Alert Monitor:    Office 365 Connection State monitor
    Created:    1/14/2015 4:42:56 PM
    Account doesn't have administrator permissions
    Knowledge:     View additional knowledge...
    Summary
The monitor oversees the availability connection to Office 365 API EndPoint.
    Causes
An error state is caused by having issues with connecting to Office 365 API EndPoint. It can be caused by:
    • Issues with global connection to Office 365 API EndPoint
    • Credentials for Office 365 Subscription's account are not correct
    • Office 365 Subscription's account is not allowed to getting data from Office 365 EndPoint API
I've verified that the account is able to log into the server, has the _identifier, and global admin permissions in the Office 365 admin console.
Wondering if there's anything I may have missed.
    Any responses appreciated.

Thanks So much for your response, ok then I guess what I ment to ask is , How do I get Root permissions and access to all my cumputer files. When using the Terminal it only allow me to go back so far to view my user folder but not the root folders?
If you have admin access in your account, then in Terminal, you can go to the file root with
    cd   /  <enter>
and then go from there.  (The single forward slash is the shorthand for the filesystem mount point.)  You should be able to a number of things otherwise blocked by using the sudo command before the normal Unix command, as in, for instance,
    sudo   touch   /System/Library/Extensions  <enter>
which is a command which changes the modification date to the current time on the Extensions folder.  When using sudo, you will be asked for your password, and after successful authentication, the command will execute.

  • Splitting Security Administration Permissions

Can I split Security Administration Permissions? I want to allow people to assign permissions to roles but not have access to delete users or change other users passwords. So can I write permissions for the roles and users screens separately? Ideally in
the long run I would like there to be a way for Only one person ie me(or one Admin) to be able to delete users and a way for uses to register themselves without nessisarily having access to the permission to assign themselves Roles.
Is any of this possible? Is there a way to maybe write my own security screens to overide Lightswitches build?

Again I wasn't reading this right I am an individual developer making no money to develop so I guess this is the same as VS pro just free for people in my situation

  • Darwin issues and administration permissions

In an unfortunate series of mistakes I am stuck in Darwin Black Screen after boot. I do manage to login but I can't leave the Darwin interface back to the Mac OS Tiger. Strangely the other user of the MacBook Pro can't login.
It all started after a "forced quit" while my "group" settings were in the process of mistakenly being changed from "admin" to my own login name...
It seems I lost some of my previous administrator permissions...
The reboot command does not work: The screen reads "Operation not permited".
I can't Archive and Reinstall because there is a DVD inside which I did not manage to take out since the eject button can't be used in the Darwin console...
    Please, somebody help me!!!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Try booting while holding down the Eject key. Or ... If your drive has an emergency eject hole, put the computer to sleep and insert a large, straightened paper clip in the small emergency eject hole of the drive (the location varies, depending on the drive). Push firmly until the disc ejects.

Well, you need to be able to run the pertinent licensing service and allow access to the PCD folder. sounds like you have overdone with your group policies and permissions to restrict privileges....

  • Running Firefox without Administrator Permissions

I am an enterprise administrator and want my users to be able to run Firefox on their Windows 7 desktops. I have installed using elevated permissions but when the users try to open the application without admin permissions (they are members of the Remote Desktop Users group) it just presents a dialog box that says "Firefox has stopped working." Any suggestions?

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

  • BO XI R2 administrator permissions

Some how, the administrator account is not able to delete anything AND when I click on a folder in infoview, there are like 50 reports, however when I click on the next page, I get a message that says I (administrator) do not have this permission, please see the administrator....??
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Bruce,
The built in Adminstrator account is supposed to be a safety net account.  You should not be able to limit what that user can see or do.  Do you get the same types of permission issues when doing similar things in the CMC?
It sounds like there may be corruption in the CMS database or something along those lines.  Did this work previously?  Do you have a backup from a time when this did work?
Have you explicitly denied rights for this user or any groups that they belong to lately?
    Thanks

  • User/ Administrator Permissions and Log In.

I have a new Mac book Pro.
I am trying to find a definitive answer to my dilemma.
Currently I log on with full administrator privileges, but I have read that this is dangerous and that I should create a separate user account.
I am fairly comfortable with the system although learning all the time.
Can anyone advise what the best and safest way is to use my Mac book Pro.
    Thanks
    Keith

..."It is evident from this statement & the content of the document that it is not intended simply for "advanced users" but for situations that require stringent security measures"...
While it is obvious that some of the security measures covered in the guide don't apply to every situation (eg. FileVault is not appropriate for everyone), it would be flawed logic to conclude that every measure in the guide should only be applied to computers in high security situations.
Some of the topics involve basic security principles that should be applied more generally. The guide uses stronger language for important measures. For example, applying security updates is described as "essential". "Never" open a file sent to you by someone you don't know. "When transportiing the computer, never leave it in an insecure location". Clearly these steps aren't intended only for "security professionals". Similarly, when referring to an admin account, the guide uses the absolute terms "always log in as a nonadministrator user" (unless the task requires otherwise), and "never browse the web or check email" from an admin account.
    ..."IOW..."...
Yes, I acknowledged in my first response that a properly informed person should make their own decision whether using an admin or standard account is appropriate, and that using a standard one is no guarantee of safety.
What I find highly objectionable and fundamentally irresponsible is the frequency with which certain high level (4 & 5) posters go out of their way to blithey advocate the continued use of the "admin" account to new users seeking advice (in this case, explicitly requesting "the safest way" to use the computer), while reserving knowledge of the admin->root privilege escalation vulnerabilities to themselves.
They are denying the users the ability to make informed choices by pushing their opinions as fact, leveraging their high level status and dropping "credentials" like being a long term, veteran OS X user, or in some cases even that they are an OS X beta tester (as if that somehow gives them developer level security expertise) to give weight to their point of view.
The admin->root privilege escalation vulnerabilities are real and well known, exploits readily demonstrable, and the level of sophistication required to create an exploit is very low. I find it appalling that anyone could recommend the use of an admin account while failing to mention this fact.

  • Updates and administrator permissions

I have downloaded the update, but when I try to install it I get an error saying "Please contact your Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine.  Updates have been suspended by the Adminisrator."  I am the Aministrator and the only user of the machine.  I have gone into the security features of the OS and have disabled any resrictions on any app instalations.  What am I missing?

  • How can I give administration permissions to a specific user+group on wiki?

How do I give administration capabilities to a specific user for only ONE specific group on my wiki server, not all of them.
Anyone know the simplest way to do this?

Really all I'm looking to do is to keep my web site exactly the same but limit the reading and writing capabilities of some users on specific groups/wiki pages/blogs but still allow them to read and write to other specific ones that somehow I would designate.
For example: I'm setting up a group for multiple users (about 15), and they each have their own page within that group, however i want to give them very limited administration capabilities on the site, all I want them to be able to do is to edit their own page, NOTHING else in the group
there's gotta be a way to do this without 3rd party software installation that seems complicated enough on it's own, isn't administration capabilities a fundamental part of wikis?
Someone has to have gone through something similar, any help?

  • How to get administrator permissions for C:\Windows\Assembly ?

I need to uninstall ATI's video drivers after upgrading from Vista to 7 due to some incompatibility. However, one of the steps is to uninstall all the assembly's with a certain public key token from C:\Windows\Assembly.
The issue is that when I right click Uninstall on any assembly, I get Access Denied.  I tried running Explorer.exe as admin, no luck. And the \Assembly folder doesn't even have a security properties tab, so I can't even add admin to have full control.
    Any ideas?

The Assembly Cache Viewer is a Windows shell extension that allows you to view and manipulate the contents of the global assembly cache using Windows Explorer. For more information please fo through the link mentioned below:
