Adobe 11 won't open PDF files

Having trouble downloading a form from a governement website.  Mac user with OS 10.8.4. Using FireFox for my browser and I just downloaded the upadated Adobe Raeder 11.  Help!!!

This is probably the proprietary PDF viewer in Firefox at fault.
In Firefox type "about:config" (minus the quotes) in the address bar. You'll see a warning about making chnages. Click "It's OK. I'll be careful" and open the configuration page.
There's a search at the top. Type "js" (again, minus the quotes).
In the results, you'll see pdfjsviewerdisabeld witha value of "false".
Right click it to toggle it to "true" and close the configuration page.
Click Firefox>Preferences and under the Applications tab, locate Adobe Acrobat PDF document in the list (or Portable Document Format).
Change it to "Use Adobe Reader (Default)"
Click OK and restart Firefox.

    Hi efacg,
Most printing issues are solved by resetting the Printing preferences. When you print from Firefox and you click on the down arrow, do you see Defualt and Firefox? Please make changes to the preferences here and preview the document.

  • How come pages won't open PDF files made by Pages?

How come pages won't open PDF files made by Pages?
I have files I made with Pages and exported as PDF but I can't open them with pages to edit?
Also, where are the recent files created by pages located? Can't find those to open either..

    Hi Tom,
I was delighted when I signed up for Pages. Clunky yes, but it worked. I've been a graphic designer on a Mac for 25 plus years and have logged too many horror stories of "upgrade" wars which cost me massive lost time, data and money forcibly extracted just so I could finish a project.
When I first used Pages in April of 2012? or there about, I was able to open Word documents exported to .pdf format, emailed to me, which I then dragged into Pages. I could make the changes I needed to make, export as a .pdf, return it back to my client which they could then edit on whatever it was they were using. I'm not a neophyte with this. I've had Original Photoshop as a stand alone, Quark (which locked users out 6 months after I purchased it.) Quark again, Freehand, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Photoshop again, Creative Suite for several upgrades, Acrobat Pro. 2 years ago I lost 6 years of Quicken data and had to and "upgrade" start over. This last go around I  had to "upgrade" my Apple ID - yes I had 2 on purpose, lost my Pandora One and my ability to get into the Tulsa County Library website.
At this point, I'm retired and feel like what I've paid for in the past should WORK today. I have a 100+ page cookbook in Quark which I was able to export as a .pdf, that I've lost the tags too, Easier to start over. I have artwork that is hundreds of megs in Photoshop. Not the least bit interested in anybody's "cloud".
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm determined to keep my equipment and software up to date so I can enjoy the skills I've acquired, but I completely cringe at Apple's antics. I truly hate it when I have to respond to some new "tip" or product offer. BooHiss. Happy Turkey Day. Pages is a "turkey" program.
    Best regards, mbd

  • GIMP won't open PDF files anymore

I just reinstalled my system and noticed that GIMP won't open PDF files anymore. I remember being able to use GIMP to open PDFs and save them as high resolution images.... Am I missing something?

Make sure you have poppler-glib installed.
If you have imagemagick installed you might also want to try "convert my.pdf my.jpg". It will be done before gimp opens.

  • Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c

Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c. Whenever I try to open a link leading to a pdf from say the google search page it won't load up. If I touch-and-hold, the. choose "open", I get taken to a blank page. There are not buttons, like the one that offer to open the pdf in iBooks for example. I get the same result in the google Chrome app.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
If you see this plugin:   AdobePDFviewerplugin
Move it to the trash, then quit and relaunch Safari and try a PDF file.

  • Adobe reader won't open PDF file

I have Adobe Reader 9 and Windows 8 on a Dell computer. When I try to open a PDF file from a website it sends me to my Library on my computer and won't open the file. If I try to open a PDF file from my Desktop, it opens OK. What can I do to fix this?

Do you use Firefox' own PDF viewer, or the Adobe Reader plugin?  See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.1 won't open PDF files from IE7 Browser

We are using Windows XP SP2 on our network and have recently installed Adobe Reader 8.1.1 and IE7. However this has thrown up a large amount of problems as now any link, for example 'http://somesite.co.uk/somepdf.pdf' will not open a pdf file, just a blank browser page! Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it, or have come across this also?

  • Computers running Vista won't open PDF files with Adobe Reader

I have tried downloading the latest version and nothing helps.  The error message says it was incorrectly encrypted or something along those lines.  I have forwarded the file to my home computer and ith opens fine, but not on the boss's computer or his wife's.  They are both running Vista, as is my home computer.  The other computers in the office are older and are running XP.  I hav eno problems with any of them opening PDF files.

Yep you need Adobe Reader for Intel. Actually you don't even need that. You could use Preview to view .pdf's but I always use Reader. Don't really know why

  • Adobe reader won't open pdf files

I was hoping someone can help. I have Windows XP, and I use Firefox as my web browser. I have installed Adobe Reader, and when I click on a pdf link, in the lower left field of the screen it reads as follows: 'connecting, waiting, stopped' it repeats this over, and over, and over. I eventually have to right click and save the link to the desktop, but this is becoming entirely too frustrating........I have since uninstalled Adobe, and re-installed it, but nothing changed. I even uninstalled Firefox and re-installed, but to no avail.
If anyone has a fix, I am open to your suggestions.
    Thank you.

    Jeff
    Have a look here:

it's probably an issue with the Firefox plugin for Adobe Reader.

Firefox no longer opens PDF files. Explorer works OK. I have checked the Applications window in the Tools/Options and it says I am using PDF-xChange viewer....It just does not do anything. I get the message in the Download Error window which says...."could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Is the same error which I get when I attempt to open a PDF file on a webpage using the Firefox browser....Explorer works OK so I am now forced to Explorer to read PDF files via a browser.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== After removing a old copy of PDF-xChange Viewer and updating to the last version

The error message suggests that the file (pdf) that you're trying to download cannot be saved in the folder Firefox tries to save it in.
This can be due to several things - it could be a non-existing folder (could be a problem with the updated application), the hard drive could be too full to store the file (less likely if you can generally surf the net without error messages) or it could contain an error.
To complicate things a little further, it seems to me that you have (at least) 3 different PDF-handling plugins in Firefox from different programs:
    PDF-XChange Viewer Netscape Gecko Plugin
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.3.2"
    Zeon PDF Plugin For Mozilla
This shouldn't matter too much, thou, as it will most likely simply use either the latest installed or the first one it finds when looking up associations for files of type 'pdf'.
First, in Tools > Options... > tab General > section File download, select "Save files in" and Browse your way to a (non-writeprotected!) folder on a drive where you're certain there is enough free space - like the Desktop folder to make the files end up on your Windows desktop.
Second, under Applications as you mention yourself, find all document types related to PDF files, and set these to one of the programs. Check the entire list to be sure there isn't one hiding under one of the other programs' document types (Adobe Acrobat document, PDF X-Change and Zeon).
Restart Firefox, and try opening a PDF again.
If it fails once more, try changing the documents again to one of the other programs, like "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
If it STILL fails, change it to simply "Save file". Then you can simply browse your way to the download folder with Windows Explorer, and doubleclick the PDF file to see which program actually handles PDF files as default on the machine, and if it works properly.
If Firefox flatly refuses to save the PDF files in a folder which you're certain both exist and has space for the file, some (probably security related) program is most likely interfering with Firefox, preventing it in storing PDF files on the system.

  • Acrobat Pro Won't Open PDF Files

I get this message when trying to click open pdf files in a directory.  These files will open from Acrobat open file menu. Message - The document “SpecSheet_Zip.pdf” could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the “Adobe PDF document” format.  I'm using Mac OS 10.6 and acrobat pro 8.2.5.  Any ideas how to fix would be appreciated.

The same thing happens with pdf files that are not zip files even if saved from Acrobat Pro on my computer.

  • How do I stop Adobe trying to open pdf files?

I have removed Adobe from my Mac, but it is still trying to open pdf files, both in Safari and in Mail. I've removed all of the files using CleanMyMac, so there is nothing left of it.
How can I change the default back to Evernote, or just view pdf in Safari?

Unfortunately, I can't do that as the file I want is coming up with this message: "Please wait...if this message is not replaced by the proper contents of the document, your pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
You can upgrade or get the latest version of Adobe Reader...etc etc"
I'm also getting this on my Windows XP Computer even when I have Reader installed.
I have already deleted all internet plug ins relating to Adobe in my Library.

  • Adobe Won't Open Zip files

I have Mac Book Pro running OS X 10.9.2.  In either Google or Safari, Adobe will not open zip files saying they are not supported or the file is damaged.  Have checked the plugins on Google and enabled Flashplayer and reader.  I have managed the website settings on Safari to enable Adobe Reader.  Quicktime is up to date.
All suggestions will be gratefully received.
    Many thanks in advance.

Select a .zip file, select "Get Info" from the Finder menu and change the setting for zip files to always open in "Archive Utility.app":
After you select that default application, make certain that you select "Change All."
