Adobe 1998 Not in PS CC?

I just got PS cc. I shoot in RAW.  I have an Epson R3000.  I have an iMac with Mavericks.
Adobe support just told me that "Adobe 1998" is no longer used in Printer Profiles and that it stopped with CS5.   Is this really true?  What profile should I be using?
This seems bizarre to me.  Sorry if this has ben asked a million times.
Thanks,
Jake

True it was there and you could use it, but it's not a device profile. That's why Adobe left it out. This help doc explains it.
Preparing to print from Photoshop
When I go to File > Print in Photoshop CC on my Macbook, I get a Print Settings dialog.
Under Color Management > Color Handling I use "Printer Manages Colors" and my color profiles are grayed out.
If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors", I get my device or Printer profile.
The bottom line is that while you got along just fine using Adobe RGB for your printer profile, it was never meant for that, you should be using the Epson Profile.
If you use "Printer Manages Colors" Photoshop ignores the profiles and lets the Printer decide.

  • Aperture identifying  Pro 1 RAW Adobe 1998 when it's sRGB

I'm having trouble with my Canon Pro 1. I'm shooting in RAW in the "standard" sRGB workspace (there's an option for Adobe 1998). However, Aperture labels the photos as Adobe 1998. The Preview application also reads the file to be Adobe 1998 (get info while in Preview). One curious thing I noticed, is that when the menus are setup for Finder to show a preview of a photo, it appears that OS X is using the correct color space (or a different one at least). I am importing directly into Aperture from a card reader.
Because I was curious, I checked to see if there was a problem when shooting in JPEG mode. Aperture identifies the color space correctly. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? I'm using Aperture 1.0

Okay, I understand that Aperture is using its own
special color space that is wider than Adobe 1998 or
sRGB. But, I guess my question is, will Aperture's
color space display two identical pictres (albeit
different color spaces) as the same even if one is
Adobe 1998 and the other sRGB? Because if not, I
think there'd be a problem since the color would not
remain constant when I finally export it as sRGB.
No, although since the AdobeRGB space holds a greater range of colors it may look a little richer.
Also, if you are talking about RAW files it will not matter since any colorspace you include in a RAW file is just a "hint" to an application that is reading that RAW files what color space is preferred after conversion.
Also I noticed this: When Finder shows a preivew of
the file, it seems that it's using a different color
space than that of Aperture or Preview.app because
the tonality is slightly cooler. The image that the
OS shows is, I think, the same as that when Preview
converts the "adobe 1998" file to its true sRGB. So
I'm guessing that the OS's interpretation is right.
Why is there an inconsistencey between the
    applications and the Finder/OS?
The image Finder shows is generally from the thumbnail created by the camera itself. So it's slightly different just because the OS X conversion is a little different than the in-camera conversion. It has nothing to do with the colorspace.

  • SRGB vs. Adobe (1998) RGB

This is likely a basic question for all the pros out there, but here it is:
In Scott Kelby's The Photoshop CS Book (2003), it says on p. 116: "Photoshops' default color space (sRGB...) is arguably the worst possible color space for professional photographers." He says this color space is designed for Web designers and mimics a cheap PC monitor from years ago.
He recommends changing the default setting to Adobe RGB (1998), saying "This is probably the most popular RGB setting for photographers because it reproduces such a wide gamut of colors and it's ideal if your photos will wind up in print."
Then comes the instruction book for the Canon 5D Mark II, which recommends sRGB because Adobe RGB "is mainly used for commercial printing and other industrial uses. This setting is not recommended if you do not know about image processing, Adobe RGB, and Design rule for Camera File System 2.0 (Exif 2.21). The image will look very subdued in the sRGB personal computer environment and with printers not compatible with Design rule for Camera File System 2.0. Post-processing of the image with software will therefore be required."
So-- Is there a 'best' setting for a non-pro who wants the 'best' possible prints? Should the camera and CS4 have the same settings, either sRGB or Adobe (1998)? Does this have anything to do with the price of eggs in China?
Thank you for your help. John

    T. Schmidt,
The videos in question are titled
The Art of Fine PrintingFrom Camera To Print, so they are
very much about and for photography. They are of little interest to someone not primarily involved with photography.
My take on color management books is very subjective and definitely photography-oriented, of course.
Real World Color Management by Fraser et al. remains the basic color management book. I also very much like Andrew Rodney's
    Color Management for Photographers.
I am not in the Margulis camp, even though I did read the
    Canyon Conundrum and
Professional Adobe Photoshop, which I still have, without having profited much from the latter and not at all from the former. I don't care much for Scott Kelby either. (I prefer to avoid L*a*b and CMYK altogether.)
    > the best up to date book about Color Management in general or for print,
I am not quite sure what to make of that phrasing.
or" for print? As far as I'm concerned, color management is the art of maintaining color accuracy and consistency
    from capture to print.
    >97% of the time I get an untagged image it's sRGB
Quite a few untagged image files floating around turn out to be in Color Match RGB or Monitor RGB, so I can't assume sRGB. What I can tell you is that I encounter fewer and fewer untagged files myself, as my known stance on beating morons who give me untagged files with a baseball bat seems automatically to shield me from said morons for the most part.

  • What happened to Adobe 1998?

Under "View" - "Proofing Profiles" -there is no selection for Adobe 1998, which is the color space all my photos are shot in. It's there in PSCS2, but not in Aperture. What am I missing? Thanks for the help.

    I really don't think it's a bug at all, because as I
stated, I think/assume that AdobeRGB is the default
and is the profile used to display images when
    "Onscreen Proofing" is not enabled.
And what if I import a file in sRGB or ProPhoto RGB?
There has to be some default underlying color space used I agree. Bridge uses sRGB. But that’s not a reason not to show Adobe RGB (1998). But worse, all matrix profiles appear to do absolutely nothing when you select them. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this. Open a very saturated image and select sRGB, then ProPhoto RGB or any other simple, matrix profile. Do you see a change? I can’t. Why are they there in the first place?
There’s no legal issue that I can think of since you can clearly select Adobe RGB (1998) elsewhere in the application.
"In contrast with Adobe Photoshop, you don't have to
set your "workspace." Instead, Aperture will always
work in a wide gamut, except for when you apply
Onscreen Proofing, which shows you how your work
    should look in final output.
The reason you need to specify a working space in Photoshop is to define what it assumes for untagged files. Aperture (and all Apple color applications) are not that smart. They simply pick either your display profile (dumb) or Generic RGB. In Photoshop you have the option to say to it “When you encounter an untagged RGB file, assume it’s in this color space.” That’s useful. Apple app’s don’t work that way, at least since Tiger when the ColorSync untility removed the settings for such assumptions (a good idea since it didn’t really work anyway).
Tip: In some cases, the profile lists don't match.
As I mentioned, they tell you this but not why (like lots of other goofy designs in Aperture).
Adobe RGB, for example, is included as an Export
Preset option but not as an Onscreen proofing option.
Try using ColorMatch RGB or Wide Gamut RGB when
    proofing for Adobe 1998."
Again, this kind of defies any color management logic. Again, selecting such options doesn’t appear to change the soft proof anyway.
BTW, I’ve sent an email to the Product Manager asking him to clarify this. We’ll see...

  • How do you encrypt a PDF with Adobe reader, not Adobe Acrobat?

I would like to encrypt PDFs using Adobe Reader. However, all instructions for encrypting a PDF require me to use Adobe ACROBAT, not Adobe READER. How do I encrypt a PDF using Adobe Reader?
Extra Note: I use Adobe READER version XI and Mac OS X 10.9.

Adobe Reader does exactly what its name says: it reads PDF files, nothing more.

I am trying to highlight text on multiple pages, but when I select the text and bring the cursor to the bottom of the screen Adobe does not advance the document. How do I make it so I can highlight from page to page without having to release the mouse button?
Also, how do I get adobe to realize that there is a header and footer on each page, but the actual text in the file is in two columes. Is there a way to make this clear and embade it in the document so other programs recognize this too?

Regarding your first question, change the view to Single Page Continuous.

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
    1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
    2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

  • Windows 8.1 not recognizing Adobe Flash Player and Adobe help not helpful

I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit. I tried to view a video and it said I did not have flash player. I went to download adobe flash player and your website said I had it intergrated into 8.1 and that it was either disabled, not the right version or that active X filters needed to be clear. I followed all instructions. Flash was installed with the 8.1 64 bit version. Flash was enabled for all websites and I cleared the active X filter and I still get told that I don't have install flash because it is intergrated and but it does not work. Please help I am in a cycle where Adobe is not helping just sending me in a circle. Thank you

Your problems aren't with Adobe or Flash Player. They're with Internet explorer 11 and Microsoft.
IE11 (Windows 7, 8 & 8.1) has been an abomination since its release October 18, 2013. Yahoo, Facebook, BBC, ESPN and dozens of other sites and domains have had trouble recognizing the Browser. If the site doesn't recognize the browser, it won't recognize any plugins in the browser, including Flash Player. Microsoft was made aware of the problems by millions of users within hours of the release, and so far they've shown no sign that they intend to fix it anytime soon. Their recommendation is to enable Compatibility View for affected pages. Two problems with that are that it's had only limited success, and you must enable it manually for each affected page. Basically, they're telling you to "pretend" you're not using IE11.
I'm not big on "pretending", and I recommend actually using something different. Something that works where IE11 won't.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Chrome (from Google)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Opera (from Opera)
ANY of those will work where IE isn't recognized, and they use the Flash Player Plug-in (for other browsers), except for Chrome, which has its own plugin embedded in by Google.

  • After my hard drive crashed and had to be replaced, Adobe will not activate the copy of Photoshop on the same machine it was originally on.  I paid for it, why can't I use it?

I have been buying and using Adobe Photoshop through numerous versions over the past several decades. and I used to recommend it whenever I had an opportunity. Now I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.  I could say a lot more than that, using words my parents taught me to not use.
Adobe now has their head in the clouds and doesn't care a whit about faithful customers.
I had CS3 on one machine, CS4 on another, and CS6 on another one. The hard drive on the machine with CS3 and had to be replaced.  I am trying to install CS3 back on the same computer, but Adobe will not let me activate it, even though I am trying to put it on the computer it was originally on.  I paid for it, I have gone by the rules, and Adobe will not even talk to me.  And as far as I can determine, Adobe is so far out in the clouds that it has nothing but contempt for the people that kept them in business for decades!
What I would really like to do is move CS4 onto the machine that originally had CS3 on it, and put CS3 onto the machine that now has CS4, but I assume nobody at Adobe cases what I would like, even though I paid for the software and have no intention of trying to have it installed on more than one machine at a time.
    An Unhappy FORMER Adobe customer.

    Gene,
Thanks for your input.  The first response was from Semaphoric, and the suggestion to go to Activation  <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__helpx.adobe.com_x-2Dproductkb_policy-2 Dpricing_activation-2Ddeactivation-2Dproducts.html&d=AAMFaQ&c=2X_btuPRWkGwRX26NHIotw&r=SV2 7JiUdsqdd_EMOf-dq7w&m=ZZ3uTbq0aPS1gp4Hdc7Kfaq1cjXsUii7RKXoXvqBPGg&s=c6eaD33CSBrFAMNKsC0pPB qnQK4DfAG7wMSJ6E27pyU&e=> & Deactivation Help proved to be helpful.  I was never able to activate CS3 on the computer it was on originally, but I had been unaware that a license allowed installing on two computers if only one is in use at any time, so I uninstalled CS3 and installed CS4 on the old computer, so I am happy about that.
When I get time, I will try to install and activate CS3 on my laptop computer.  I thought about trying to install CS6 on the old computer, but CS6 is on my wife’s computer, and we are often both using Photoshop at the same time.  I will probably install it on her notebook computer – if they will let me.
    Thanks again,
    RG

  • Adobe Air Not Installing - Admin account needed to install error

I am on a Windows Vista computer with over 100GB of harddrive space left.  I continue to get Adobe Air install errors. I have:
uninstalled from programs and Adobe Air is not showing up so that is good.
removed all references from Adobe Air from registry keys
installed Windows Program Clean Utility and confirmed Adobe is not showing up.
I am logged in as the only account that has admin rights to the computer.
I have restated and still continue to get same error for Adobe AIR 1.5.2 Installer program.
It keeps on saying install not succesful.  You need admin rights to install Adobe Air.
What do I do?  How do I install Adobe Air?  I have confirmed with Dell that computer is okay.  Internet connectivity is great to and no other programs having issue.

Kyle thanks for the idea and I thought that was going to work but it unfortunately did not. I did right click and chose the run as administrator option but still got the error that read:
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator.
Attached is a screenshot and not sure what else to do.  This is a home computer that only has me as a user on it so I am the administrator.

Adobe and I tracked it to a system issue and they left me there. Other than setting up this new account and just using that, is there any alturnitives that will help me keep my current account and make Bridge load right?

You need to check two things:
    1) are you uploading the new files each time you make any change?
    2) Are you clearing the browser cache just in cache it is not refreshing because of the same name?
When you have checked these two things and if the problem persists then you will need to upload the page and provide a link here to others to check in their browsers and to see if all the pictures are online.
    Hope this helps.

Hi there.  I want to transfer my Photoshop Extended software to a new laptop.  I only have 1 license -- I got it from a thrid party service and downloaded it to my old computer about 2 1/2 years ago.  It looks like I need the serial number in order to transfer it from one computer to another.  I still have my license key (consisting of 24 numbers), but when I went into my Adobe account and entered the license key, Adobe is telling me that my license key is not valid.  (I've entered the key several times; I'm entering it correctly, but Adobe is not recognizing it.)   How can I proceed with transferring the software to my new computer?  Is there someone I can speak to at Adobe?  Thank you for your time.

IE uses a different version of Flash than other browsers use. You need to install the Plugin version of Flash for Firefox.
1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
