Adobe 5.0 PDF cannot be read in Adobe Reader 7.0

I am on Mac OS 9.1 using Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to create PDF files. Lately people have been upgrading their Adobe Reader to the 7.0 version and now my PDF will not open for them. I have a library of PDF's created by 5.0 and now they are useless. Can anyone shed light on this?
Thanks
John

Your experience is better, than mine. I look after a website for a Electronics Servicing organization. I've created many PDF using Acrobat 3 - 7.0.7 (the older versions on OS9. I use OSX.3.9 on a G4-500 using 1.5 Gb of System RAM. And I uses OSX.4.5 on a PowerBook 17" using 2 GB of system RAM. Since switch to Acrobat 6 and then 7 I've never been able to have anyone view a PDF created in 6 or 7 Format. The File appears to be there and the file fize indicates it has content. Whether viewing on a PC or a Mac. If viewed on a PC all that is seen is a Blank page with no text, and if it had a graphic no graphic is shown. If however; the person on the other end happens to have Acrobat or Reader 6 they can view the Acrobat 6 Files. And If they have 7 they can see the 6 and 7 files as well as anything below. However; most of the PC viewers I deal with still use Acrobat or Reader 5. Its these viewers I find that can't view the files. I've noticed also that when you do getinfo on a Acro/Reader, or 7 File created on my computer that in the thumbnail preview, all you see is the Acrobat A symbol, or a Blank thumbnail. Opening in 7 they can be viewed. Opening in 5 (I still have a OS9 Drive and e.5.0.5 installed) all I get is a Blank page no text and no Graphics if any in the content. SO every since 6 and 7 have come out I've had to save, then optimize for Acrobat 5 in order for my readers to see the pdf's.

It was fine last week but I have updated the 8.2 reader to the latest version and now it doesn't work.

By any chance have someone help me with this issue?  Thanks!

thanks Jono But I cannot see any option to set Target Version.
the options I have are XDP Preview format and PDF Render Format which are set to Acrobat 7 static PDF form.
I have set a permissions password on the form using Acrobat 8 and under Password security settings , I have set the compatibility as Acrobat 5.0 or later. However, When I look at the form properties by opening the same form in LiveCycle, the compatibility still shows Acrobat 8 static PDF form.
How do I get this form to be opened by users in Adobe 7?
    Appreciate your quick response.

  • Downloaded adobe reader from adobe but cannot open pdf on uni website

downloaded adobe reader from adobe website but when trying to open a pdf on uni site keeps telling me that i must relaunsh adobe reader & accept the end user license agreement, but when install adobe reader it doesn't ask for this? please help

Accepting the EULA is not done during the installation, but when Adobe Reader is launched for the first time.  That's what you need to do (not the browser plugin, but the actual Reader program).

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 cannot read Adobe Reader X data in certain areas. Why?

I have a customer who had some reports that were done in Adobe Reader and cannot be viewed in Adobe Professional 8 version. The customer uses digital signatures to sign them. How can this be fixed?

tvandersluijs - I'm sorry if that screwed up your machine however:
    1. What version of Adobe Reader are you using because as you can see the registry entry is for Adobe Reader 9, if ur using Adobe Reader 8 then u need to specify ur version as PAllens entry suggested - "E.g. "C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat [version]\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""
    2. I've used this solution significantly because I have come across this specific issue for multiple users.
    3. All the registry entry does is tell Windows what program to use by default to open/view PDF documents.
My intention wasn't to screw up ur machine or anybody elses as I said I've used this solution many times however what I've should gave is the disclaimer to backup ur registry before u make mods so u can revert back in case. Also the ony other thing I can think of is that this solution was for Windows XP using registry editior 5, I'm noticing that the title of this thread is Windows 7.

  • Form processed by LiveCycle, but cannot be saved by Adobe Reader

    Hi All,
I have an Adobe form which has been processed by LiveCycle, however, it still cannot be saved by Adobe Reader. What could be the probable cause of this?
    Background:
Previously, the whole process could work alright; i.e. create form using Acrobat Prof -> process using LiveCycle -> editing and saving with Adobe Reader.
However, after some changes where made to the pre-processed form, LiveCycle can no longer make the form save-able by Adobe Reader.
    Thanks and best rgds,
    Kwok Pong

    Hi Kwok,
The term "LiveCycle" covers a good number of products so I will make the assumption you are talking about Reader Extensions. Please let me know if this is wrong.
If you licensed Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms this does not necessarily mean that you have licensed Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions (which is sometimes referred to as ARES). ARES is the technology that is used to allow the Barcoded Forms PDFs to work but does not enable save-off-line capabilities on your forms unless you licensed this feature too.
Take a few minutes and listen to this presentation, it should give you an idea of how things are licensed: http://my.adobe.acrobat.com/barcodedformsandreaderextensions

  • Cannot sign documents with Adobe Reader 10.1.3 - 10.1.10, Can sign document with 10.1.2 and 11.0.07

Cannot sign documents with Adobe Reader 10.1.3 - 10.1.10, Can sign document with 10.1.2 and 11.0.07
In my environment, we have 10.1.2 that's currently packaged. Our CIO was able to sign documents via signature with no problem. Later he got updated to 10.1.9, no longer can sign.
During testing I was able to confirm that 10.1.2 signed without problems, but anything that, it goes kaput, the Sign and options are not listed.
Latest Adobe Reader can sign... any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem.  What I'm trying to do is print a Microsoft Word 2010 document with paper size A4 to Adobe pdf document paper size A4.  I select "A4" for paper size in word and then print using Adobe print standard settings.  What I get is an Adobe document in 8.5 x 11.  This is an issue because these are patent documents for electronic filing in WIPO and they must be in A4 size.
If I select other sizes in Word, such as A3, Tabloid, and Legal, the Adobe file is in the same paper size.
If I print a Powerpoint document in A4 to Adobe, the Adobe file page size is A4.
If I print an Adobe file in 8.5 x11 to Adobe A4, the second Adobe file is in A4.
    Any help?

  • Why can't I open pdf's after install of adobe reader? Should I see it in system preferences?

Why can't I open pdf's after install of adobe reader? Should I see it in system preferences?

There are can be reasons PDFs cannot be opened. For example, some forms created with Lifecycle Designer cannot be opened.
Are you sure the file is a PDF? Can you open it in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on a Mac or PC? Does it give an error message when you try to open it?

  • Cannot use Adobe to view pdf in your web browser

Running Acrobat Standard 8 on a Windows 7 machine with 4 gig of memory.  Upon installing Acrobat 8 on Windows 7 I get a pop-up window everytime I try to open a pdf in a web browser.  Using IE8 and FF 3.5 both give me the same error.
"Cannot use Adobe Reader to view pdf in your web browser.  Reader will now exit.  Please exit your browser and try again. (attached)"
    Thanks in advance
    Darrell

I'm having the exact same problem. After clicking OK on the dialogue the pdf file loads just fine.
Checked the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe key - Acrobat is pointing to the right place. There are no references to acrord32.exe in the registry at all.
I've removed, reinstalled and installed all the latest patches, but nothing seems to help.

  • Computer does not recognise Adobe Acrobat/Distiller and cannot Pdf

    Hi,
I recently installed a new version of Adobe creative suite 4, just as an unregistered trial, but I found that my computer could not handle the programs, and began to crash any time I attempted to create a pdf.
So I uninstalled just the Acrobat part of the package, hoping that I would still be able to use my old Adobe 5 to Pdf from Autodesk CAD.
However now that I have uninstalled, I still cannot Pdf. And moreover, my computer no longer automatically recognises Adobe 5 as the default program for opening Pdf's, it makes me select the program from a list.
Is there any way to fix this? Would uninstalling and reinstalling help? Pdfing from CAD is essential to my work.
Any help would be gratly appreciated!!

The simplest way is to just do a repair (Control Panel>Add Remove Programs ...). For AA5, it will likely show up at change and remove. Select the change and you should be able to fix things. If that does not work, then uninstall, remove the Acrobat 5 folder, and use the MS Cleanup Tool. Then reboot and install. Acrobat and Reader are such that if you install more than one version, uninstalling any will most likely break all others -- exactly your problem. The association problem can be fixed with Windows explorer, but other things may also be broken that make a repair or reinstall a good idea.
