Adobe 7.0 Standard Adobe PDF Writer

I just re-installed 7.0 Standard on my XP operating system computer. After I activated it, I went to Printers and Faxes and it does not show Adobe PDFWriter as a choice. How do I fix this?

There should be a printer named Adobe PDF. There is no printer named PDF Writer in AA7. If you see no printer as mentioned, you should try a repair from the control panel.

  • Adobe PDF Writer (v5.0) won't install; can't find LPT1 port

I've searched extensively for an answer on this question, and the most common answer is no answer or use a newer PDF creator.
The department I support uses database software that was never programmed to support any PDF creator past PDF Writer, so all users of this software have Acrobat Professional 5.0.5 installed using the "Custom" option to include the PDF Writer.
All workstations run XP, sp3.  I have never seen this problem on any other machine.  I have installed version 5 on other machines with newer installations of Acrobat (7,8, and 9) with no functionality issues.  The machine that won't install the PDF Writer had V8 installed.  I have removed Acrobat V8 to try to get the V5 installation to run.  I have tried running the V5 installation first without PDF Writer, and then adding in the PDF Writer.
In all cases, as soon as you click "Install" after checking "PDF Writer", the error "Acrobat PDF Writer requires a LPT1: printer port.  Setup could not find this required port.  The PDF Writer component will not be installed.  To install PDF Writer, add a LPT1: port and run setup again" always appears, and the installation tries to continue without the PDF Writer.
This computer has a fully-functioning LPT1 port (as well as LPT2 and LPT3) which is not in use by any other printers (according to the printer properties display).  XP shows the port under Device Manager as functioning properly, although I have both disabled/re-enabled the port, as well as uninstalling it and rebooting, at which point it re-installs properly.
All high-priority Windows XP updates are current and again, on similar machines, similarly imaged, I have never had this problem using the same media.  I have tried installing a printer on this port and adding drivers.  All machine users have Administrator privileges (unfortunately)
Due to the large quantity of data and software on this user's machine (and the fact that otherwise it runs great), I would REALLY rather not re-image the machine.
Any help or ideas will be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey, good idea, and I hadn't done it, but nothing is remaining from any previous Acrobat installs (according to the Cleanup Utility).  I do pretty good registry cleanup on these machines as I work on them for other reasons/updates.
    Other ideas?

  • How can I programatically control the names of files output from Labview into .pdf format (ie with Adobe PDF Writer or Distiller)?

I would like to save some data forms for a standard test controlled with labview in a pdf format. Due to the large number of forms and test reports, I would like to have Labview automatically assign the .pdf file name based on test number already contained in the labview code. How can I do this.
Note: This question is very similar to:
"Labview and Adobe Acrobat output" posted by John Balone on 1/26/2000. The reponses offered good suggestions but it is not clear to me how to implement them.

This information is essential if you plan to use the Acrobat Distiller printer driver and any of the examples listed here:

  • Adobe PDF writer has taken over my computer for documents, how do I change it back to Safari PDF ?

How do I change back to Safari PDF viewer and get rid of Adobe?

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 PDF Writer replaces default printer

I have tried to look this up but no one seems to have a definitive answer for this problem. First let me explain my organization's set-up and what the problem is.
I work for a high school with several PC's running a mix of Windows 7 and Windows XP in our network. We have several computer labs (all of the labs are running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit). Our network administrator has set the default network printer for each lab in Group Policy. Our server is running Windows 2008 Server R2. Our labs have Adobe Design Suite CS4 (with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4).
The problem? When students log on to the computers, the default printer gets changed from the network printer that it should be to the Adobe PDF Writer. I have been unable to find a solution to this problem anywhere. What I need to know first of all is what type of problem is this? Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to turn it off? Is it in Group Policy? Is it in Adobe Acrobat? Someone on another forum even suggested it might be a Microsoft Word problem. Is Word the program that changes the default? Is it something else?
PLEASE if anyone has a solution to this problem let me know! We're wracking our brains over here.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I believe I am having similar issues to yourself. I have been looking for solutions for a day or two now but can not find anything. Have you managed to find a resolution or work around?

  • Saving to Adobe pdf without a pop-up

    Hi,
I know that this subject has been discussed already several times in the past, but browsing through all those contributions I couldn't really find "the solution". The task is as follows: An html file shall be printed to a pdf file using the Adobe pdfwriter that is installed on the PC. The printing shall be performed entirely in the background so that no pop-up windows appear, especially no display of the freshly generated pdf in an Acrobat window after the printing finished. The Adobe pdf writer shall not be necassarily the default printer. The name of the pdf file to generate shall be defined from the LabVIEW code.
I've already played around with the Print Report.vi and some ActiveX methods but nothing did work really well.
Any hint on a magic command line that covers all requirements?
    Thanks a lot,
    Peter

I have used the generic postscript printer and active x to generate pdf's from excel without the file displayed on the screen.  I was also using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard.  Download that and try it.  Also just a shot in the dark, maybe you can create a vi reference of your main front panel and during the conversion procees set that window to be the frontmost window.  I think thats what the option is called.  You have probably read some of my earlier posts about my trials and tribulations with pdf creation and active x.

  • Printing a PDF document to Adobe PDF rotates 90degrees clockwise

When I print a PDF document (scanned) to the Adobe PDF printer the resulting document is rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Regardless what settings are in Pro or the Adobe PDF writer.

  • Adobe PDF printer  - Use VBA??

I am using Microsoft Access 2003 and have Acrobat 7 (Adobe PDF) and Acrobat 5 (Adobe PDF Writer) installed on my machine.   I can print to the Adobe PDF printer by using this code:
    Set Application.Printer = Application.Printers("Adobe PDF")
    DoCmd.OpenReport strReport, acViewNormal, , , acHidden
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use an Acrobat object to set the path and document name without user intervention (which the code above requires as a dialog pops up requesting that information).
So, I am pretty good at figuring out how to use the various properties and methods of objects but I am just not sure WHICH objects I should be dealing with and I got lost in trying to read the SDK.
Can anyone provide at least a push in the right direction?
    Bob

If I posted this to the wrong forum or category, please do not just tell me that I did, but let me know where it should go.  I posted this originally to the wrong place and was told so, but I had to use a private message to the employee (who told me I had posted to the wrong place and locked the thread) in order to find out that THIS might be the proper location.

  • Printing to PDF Writer using VBA from MS Access

I have the printer properties for the Adobe PDF Writer set to use a default output folder on my desktop, and to not prompt for a filename.  I have a loop in MS Access VBA that sends about 3000 individual reports to the PDF Writer, one after the next after the next.
The code in Access modifies the reports "caption" to include the employee number for the record it is on... that caption becomes the name of the report in the print queue... and the PDF Writer uses that as the filename!  Each one has a different filename and eventually it prints all my reports.
Recently I have been getting an error from MS Access that says "Error 2212.  Could not print your report."  It stops the print run and I have to reset and pick up where it left off.  Sometimes it prints 50 sometimes it prints 2500 before it hits that error.  Sometimes it takes 5 or tries to get the job completed.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on?

Nothing in the Acrobat 8.x product family is compatible with Windows 7 (or any contemporary OS).
The Acrobat 8.x product family passed into End of Support way back -- (November 2011).
The current release of Acrobat (XI) is compatible in Windows 7.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard - 'Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files error'!

    Hello,
This is my first post here.  YES, I have searched for same/similar threads, but none of the offered "fixes" work.
I have 5 Dell Optiplex 740 computers running XP Pro, SP3.  All have current Dell BIOS of 2.2.4.  Most are current with Microsoft security patches/ updates, as they are set for auto update.  4 are running Acrobat Standard 8.1.2.  1 is running Acrobat 9 Standard.
All 5 are experiencing the following error message:
I have tried the repair option; I have uninstalled and reinstalled; I have uninstalled and installed v.9 on the one, and I am still receiving the error message.  I am at wits end and need help!
Is there an expert around here that could offer any assistance?
I can provide more information, just tell me what additional you need!
Thanks for any and all assistance you can offer!

I get a similar error, but only under the following conditions:  I must be printing to the Adobe PDF printer and printing multiple pages, one at a time, and then it only happens on the second and subsequent print attempts.  That is to say, the first page prints just fine and this just started yesterday afternoon. The specific file referenced in the error does not exist, but why would it work the first time and not the second?  Since it only started yesterday, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling this morning, but it made no difference.  I don't see anything under print properties like job-options and it is a single user, unshared printer.  Thoughts?  I understand the same thing is happening in at least one other of our locations, but no one there has looked into it yet.  This is a BIG problem for me, however, and I need to find an answer quickly.

when i create a pdf in adobe standard get a unable to find adobe pdf resource file

Hi! I believe you are trying to ask a question about Adobe Acrobat Standard. If that is the case, asking in the Acrobat forums would get it a quicker response. This forum is for Adobe Connect.
Otherwise if I mis-assumed, please rephrase to help us better understand the issue at hand.

  • Adobe acrobat standard save pdf to jpeg is it possibel?

I have a question about adobe acrobat standard.
can you save pdf to jpeg? or is it just the Pro version that it works on?

Try these steps to see if things are working at all. If they work, then it is a process of going one step at a time until the problem is isolated.
    1. Print a simple file to the Adobe PDF printer with print-to-file selected.
    2. Open the file created in (1) in Distiller and see if the conversion completes.
If (2) is unsuccessful, you will get errors in the Distiller window indicating the problem. With success, the next step is to check if AcroTray is running, so simply print without using print-to-file. If it does not work, then look for AcroTray.exe in your Distiller folder. This application must be working if the print to Adobe PDF is to work correctly.
