Adobe 8.1.2 crashes PDF; Can't read PDF anymore Mac OS 10.4.11 PPC

Ever since Adobe 7 and Mac OS 10.4.9 I've been updating/installing and still crashes on PDF reads from within Browsers or Adobe itself.
I have an iMac 800 17" (Mac OS 10.4.11 with OS 9.2 PPC) recently maxed RAM 1Gb has backup eDrive by TechTool Pro.
-still...
Adobe 8.1.2 crashes PDF; Can't read PDF anymore, I usually Google and just "read in HTML" but then can't see pictures.
I've tried removing Adobe 7 preferences from all drives. (move to trash->delete) Acrobat 5 is on the OS 9.2 partition.
I'm not big with the Unix shell commands on Mac OS X, so don't know specific typey things ;-)
Any ideas???

>All that is is a reader. Not a replacement for Acrobat.
And it doesn't even work well with forms. Only allows the first page of a form to be filled out.
I reported the problem as a bug, and the designer say its an apple problem. Its not. where area set up to be filled out on pages other than first page, there is an indication it is a fill-out area (Grayed out when clicked on) it does not allow for forms to be filled out. So its not worth the effort to even test.

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

    hi there
    try the vi
    ..vi.lib\platform\browser.llb\Open Acrobat Document.vi
it uses DDE or the command line to run an external application (e.g. Adobe Acrobat)
    Best regards

  • I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome.

I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome. I can't even see the acrobat reader plugin in the plugins page. Acrobat 10 is already installed in my PC. Every time I try to read a PDF file on the web, FF tries to download it instead.

As recommended above by Bernd Alheit, I posted this on the Adobe Reader forum. There, I received the advice to repair the installation under the help menu, which I did and it fixed the problem.
Similar to your solution but found it's a fix found under "HELP" menu and not Add/Remove.
    Thank you.

  • E61 using Blackberry connect can't read PDF email ...

Hi, I've a E61 that has Adobe 1.5 installed. I can easily read complex PDF files yet I can't read PDF email attachments that have been sent through Blackberry connect push email service. I need to get wireless faxes and have tried both efax and Myfax and can't read either. I get a blank page with ...page break... in the centre top. Strange thing is I can partially view the pdf document using the print preview and the zoom key. Any ideas?

I have nothing to base the following on except experience...
The application on the BlackBerry that handles attachments is the BlackBerry Attachment Service.  This service communicates through your email's data connection, and doesn't necessarily display the actual contents of the attachment.  In the case of a PDF file, the file is actually converted into a graphic and then sent to your device more like a JPEG rather than the actual document.  You can view it, but it's an interpruted view, not the actual document.
You can save the actual PDF attachment in its original format, but then you need a third party PDF viewer to view it as there is no actual PDF viewer available on the device itself.
You can, of course, still attach it to another email.

  • Can Yosemite read pdf files made in Snow Leopard?

can Yosemite read pdf files made in Snow Leopard?

Yup, restarted my system. First thing I did was open Firefox and try to open a .pdf.
There isn't an Acrobat icon in my system tray, and it's not showing up in my task manager, so is there another way of seeing if it's open?

  • HT1338 I can't read PDF files online.  I have tried to find a fix, or plug in or patch but nothing works.  HELP

Hi All,  A friend sent me a link to a fix for reading PDF doc's online when I first got my Lion Mac Mini, but I since updated my Firefox browser now I can't read PDF's online in either Firefox or Safari.  Can anyone help me please?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I agree with Grant. But to answer your question, that would be Word 2008. A quick search turns it up on sale at Amazon. You'll need to find it somewhere other than Microsoft itself, since MS stopped selling it when they released Word 2011.

  • Preview can't read pdf file - what gives?

    Hello,
I have just upgraded to the latest version of Mountain Lion.  In the past, I used Adobe Reader to open pdf files, but my understanding is that Preview should be able to handle this task.  For most pdf files, this is indeed the case.  However, I have this one file that is a form (which has fileds that can be completed by typing into them and then can be printed) which apparently cannot be handled by Preview.  I get the error mesage "
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer.....
What can I do about this?  Am I missing some plugin or something?
I'm running this on an iMac with a 2.5HHz core i5 and 12GB of memory.  OS 10.8.5
    Any ideas?

    Arthur,
Actually, it's a bit complicated.  Adobe Reader on my work PC can open it fine (no, the fileds have not been populated - it's an empty form).  However, AR 10 or 11 for Mac crash om my iMac under Mountain Lion, so I actually don't know if AR can open it on the Mac.  I have another iMac that runs OS 10.6.8 and Adobe reader v8.3 and that reader cannot open the form (looks like it's not current enough).  What I haven't tried yet is loading AR 11 on my Snow Leopard iMAc because I worry about messig up an otherwise functioning situation...
I actually also tried iSkysoft PDF Editor, but it roo failed to open the file.

  • Can't Read PDFs online

When I try to read a PDF online, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (from
Adobe Creative Suite 1) tries to open, then closes with this error
message: "Adobe Acrobat 6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to
    close. We are sorry..."
Until recently Adobe Reader 7.0 opened to read PDFs online,
and I had no problems. Now Acrobat tries to open instead but it
can't and I currently have no way of reading PDFs online. Adobe
Reader opens properly when I try to read PDFs from a CD or from the
hard drive on my home computer. This problem is only with online
    PDFs.
I recently installed online updates to Acrobat Pro. Did this
    somehow cause this annoying problem?
    Thanks for your help!
    Tam McPartland

You can open AR7 and then start browsing and AR should take over in that case. Not the answer you were looking for, but a temporary fix.

  • How can I read pdf files in linux?

I know the pdf files can be read by Adodb acrobat, but i can not find the software for linux,How can I download the similar tools ?
    Thanks for advance.

You can download AcrobatReader fro Linux from adobe.com like the versions of rother OS'es.
however if you want a nicer UI than Acrobat consider using gv with ghostscript. They might already be installed on your system, since they are part of most Linux distributions.
It's worthwhile to upgrade Ghostscript to the most recent version, othervise you will be unable to read pdf files that utilizes the newest fads from Adobe.

  • Can't read PDF's on the web

Hi, I'm trying to read PDF's hosted on the web, but all I get when I click to open is a page full of characters and symbols. I know the PDF's themselves are fine as my colleage is able to view them on their machine.
I've tried viewing in Safari (I use a MackBook Pro), Chrome and FireFox, but still not able to view. I can however, view/read PDF's sent to me or are already on my laptop.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I'm running the latest version of both so couldn't work out what the problem was. However, I did look around here and came across the following which solved the problem.
