Adobe 9 combined files order

I have combined a PDF (ONE MERGED FILE) with several stand alone pdfs with Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.  Please note that the order of these stand alone files in the combined PDF is customized.  However, when I open this combined PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader 9, the order of these stand alone files within the combined PDF is automatically sorted in alphabetical order.  My question is,
Is there any settings in Adobe 9 that I can choose so that it will not sort automatically in alphabetical order when open the combined PDF in Adobe 9?  Thank you!

You may have better luck asking this question in the Acrobat forums at: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Combine files dialog box - order of files

Hi! For my job, I need to combine files into a single PDF that are numbered a certain way, but the way Acrobat orders these files mixes them up when I try to sort by name. For example, it orders them as 09-12167-1, 09-12167-10, 09-12167-11 and so on. Is there a way I can change the order? Or do I have to rename them? 09-12167-001, 09-12167-002, 09-12167-003 etc. orders things the right way.
    Thanks for your response!

Prior to the last upgrade to Adobe Pro 8.0, we were able to select multiple files in Windows explorer and then right mouse click and select the "Combine supported Files..." and the Combine window would open.
After the last update this functionality stopped working. You would select the 2-3....files and click on the "Combine..." option and nothing would happen. No errors, no combine screen, nothing.
I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Pro 9.0 and it does the same thing on one machine and on another it works fine.
Does anyone know of a setting or parameter that would cause this behavior?
    Thanks

  • Adobe Combine Feature - Sorts numbered files incorrectly

At my company we use a scanning software called Kofax. We also have copies of Adobe Acrobat Standard 6-9 depending on how old the work station is.
Lets say I scan a batch of 120 pages. It will scan each page as an individual .tif file and put them all in a folder.
The naming convention for each page is:
    1.tif
    2.tif
    3.tif
    etc
    etc
Windows explorer sorts these numbers in correct order. If I decide to select all 120 pages I just scanned, right click, Combine into PDF, it will place the pages in the following order.
    1.tif
    10.tif
    11.tif
    12.tif
    etc etc
    100.tif
    101.tif
    etc etc
    2.tif
    20.tif
    21.tif
    etc etc
This basically requires me to resort the entire batch in the Adobe combine screen. This is very time consuming and tedious. Is there any way to get the Adobe software to recognize the "human" numbers in ascended order? Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.

This involves using a photoeditor with renaming capabilities such as ACDSee OR using the command-line (Run>cmd.exe) from the Start menu.  For the command line you would type "help for" and a help file for the "for" command would come up.  With "for" you can run an iterative loop that would cycle through your files based on certain characteristics and based on the variables you pass it you would be able to renumber your files from 1.tif to 001.tif and 10.tif to 010.tif for example.  Numbers 1-9 would be in one for loop, numbers 10-99 would be in another, and if you had to rename for files going into the thousands you would use 100-999 as another for loop, renumbering to a 0100.tif naming convention.  That is called "padding" your file names.

  • Issues with combining files in Adobe XI

We have never come across this before.  We are trying to combine two pdf documents into one and once combined - information from the second documents is missing or put somewhere else in the document. HELP.

Text is missing.  the method is by using the "combining files into PDF" link in adobe acrobat XI.  This has never happened before and I have been using this function for all of the year.  If I insert in the opposite order the information stays correct but the order has to be the other way around.  I am not sure how to correct.

  • In Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, is there a way to set defaults when combining files?

My specific problem;  When I combine files, Adobe creates the bookmarks (which is desirable).  These bookmarks however, always seem to default on "page width" view.  I would prefer to have the bookmarks set to "fit page".  It is very cumbersome to edit each bookmark to reset the view.  (this is another issue which should be addressed as well).
My preferences already are set to view the files in fit page, single page, however this setting does not seem to transfer to the combined file.
Is there a way to globally set the preferences for this?  Even the settings during the combining function do not give options for the page view settings.

There isn't a way to set this during the Combine process but it's easy to change all the bookmarks in one go using the following technique:
Open the bookmark navigation pane and select all the bookmarks (be sure to expand all subbookmarks).
Right-click and choose Properties from the context-sensitive menu.
Click the Actions tab and choose Execute a menu item from the dropdown.
Click the Add button and choose View > Zoom > Zoom to Page Level and click OK.

  • Combine files to PDF and selecting files one at a time - Adobe CreatePDF online application

Are you able to select up to 10 files at one time through the "select files" browser window?  The instructions at https://www.acrobat.com/createpdf/en/merge-combine-pdf-files-online.html seem to indicate that you are able to select up to 10 items and then convert and combine.
"1 Sign in to your CreatePDF account online
2 Click on Combine files to PDF, then Select Files
3 Choose one or more files to merge into a single PDF
    4 Click Open"
At this point I am only able to select files 1 at a time, which means steps 3 and 4 repeat up to 10 times if you are combining the maximum 10 files at once.  I have tried using shift select and ctrl select to no avail.
Thank you for any help on this issue.

I think I found my answer at a different set of instuctions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/using-createpdf.html.  This set of instructions clearly indicates that files will be selected 1 at a time.
    Click Combine Files To PDF.
    Click Select Files.
Select one of the files that you want to combine.
    Click Open.
Click Add Files and select additional files to combine. Click Open."
If anyone has any ideas on how to more quickly combine files, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to retain numerical order (Of file names) when combining files in Acrobat (9) Standard

How to retain numerical order (Of file names) when combining files in Acrobat (9) Standard, please see the attached screenshot for a clearer explanation.
I understand that if we prefix all files with leading zero's this will probably resolve the issue but I just wondered if anyone new the answer. The ironic situation is that version 6 has no problem.
I have spent over an hour with techincal support who were unable to provide me with an answer

It is not clear how you are trying to do the order. Have you tried to select a set of files and then use the arrow buttons to move them in the list? If you select the heading, that will typically reorder the files by that heading and undo everything you had done before.
You should be able to select groups of files and move them up and down in the list. All of those options appear on your view, so what is the real question?

  • Combine Files incorrectly rearranges order of files

Acrobat 9 incorrectly rearranges the order of the files in the Combine Files function when selecting multiple files to move.  For example, I have 40 files that I am combining into one.  Since the files are named 1-40, files 2-9 will not be in order.  If I highlight files 5-9 and drag them up to the spot they belong to put them in order some of the other files that were previously in order now are in random order.  The order might now be 31, 35, 32, 33, 37, etc.  This happens when selecting multiple files and dragging them up or down in the Combine Files window.  Anyone else seen this problem?

Yeah, I'm aware that renaming files 1-9 to 01-09 will put them in order from the beginning but this doesn't change the fact that if I wanted to move several files that were named something other than by number (ie. TDY report, sales report, etc.) and I selected several to move let's say inbetween files 21-22 several other files that were previously in order now become out of order for no apparent reason.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Combining Files

When I combine multiple files (each created with Word 2007) that each have multiple levels of bookmarks, the resulting PDF bookmarks are all broken except the highest level. What's up?

How are you combining the files? Are you dragging some files into the Pages pane of the first file? Or are you using the Combine Files menu item?
Your question should be directed to Adobe's developers. However, if your bookmarks point to the beginning of pages and not to specific points within those pages, then they can be fixed with a script. If you're interested, contact me by email.

  • Adobe Acrotbat X - when combining files, set the default bookmark to "full page" view

When combining multiple pdf files into a single file using the "Combine supported files in Acrobat.." feature (right click menu in explorer), the combined document contains bookmarks for each of the combined files - so far, so good.
However, all of the book marks are set to show a "page width" view of the file - no good.  I need to set the default bookmark to show the "full page" view when clicked.
I need to set this up as a default as there are too many bookmarks to go back and change individually.
How do I do this?  Either as a default, or to globally change the display view once the file is created?
Windows XP, Adobe Acrobat Pro X, version 10.1.4

Not possible with Acrobat. The defaults cannot be changed, and there is no way to alter the action of an existing bookmark via scripting so it can't be automated without a custom plugin (I don't know of one that does it out of the box).

    Hi Kenny Fikes,
You can access Acrobat online services using this Link ( cloud.acrobat.com ) , although you might need to sign-in using your Adobe ID, before you can access those services.
Does that help? Please reply back for any further query or assistance.

  • PSE9 Organizer File Order display

Before PSE9 if I chose to display the images in file order it did just that, no more.
In PSE9 displaying the images in file order imposes a selection on the images, So, if choose to look at a particular folder the it selects the files in that folder to the exclusion of files in all other folders.
In this screenshot I have clicked on a folder which has 17 files in it. It says at the bottom left of the screen that it has 'selected' 17 images out my 16000 files.
Now here is the same display in PSE8
The same 17 files from that folder are displayed, but them so are the ones in the following folder and I could scroll down through all 16000 of them without needing to select another folder. Note that there is no mention of 17 files having been selected at the bottom left hand corner.
All I specified was a display order, not a selection of which files to display.
It seems that in PSE9 if I want to select images from an assigned tag the only way it can be done is to display the images in date order in the tagged files are in different folders. This is useless.
Please can anyone explain the logic in this 'update'?

I would love to go back to PSE8 as it worked perfectly.
Unfortunately I bought a new Nikon D7000 and PSE8 does not recognize it.
I was informed that I needed PSE9 to use my new Nikon.
Here is my post to a response that claimed I needed to do a 10-14 step workaround for an issue :
I realize that I sounded extremely negative BUT I have had Photo Elements since 2001.
I Never had a problem with any part of the software.
To me the main reason that individuals like me get Elements is because of its ease to work with compared to PhotoShop.
Let me list the problems that I am having :
    Bridge
    (1) The thumbnails do not show the picture
    (2)  You cannot attach to an email from Bridge.
    (3)  It now lists the file by date not consecutive numbering.
I contacted Nikon and they say it is a software issue not the camera.
    Organizer :
    (1)
It takes over an hour to load a picture from Elements (after you do a PP, even a simple crop) into organizer and it renders Organizer useless during the load process.
A window drops and says "Element Organizer is currently busy and cannot process the request".
Sometimes it shows the picture and says : "edit in progress" with a Lock symbol.
If you wanted to share or do anything else in Organizer you are stuck until it transfer the picture.
    (2)
The email size has issues :
Big, medium level (slide bar with numbers) : never loads and I have to force quit Organizer and Mail
Very Big, medium level: looks like a postage stamp or never loads
Medium, any level size is Ok and what I have to use.
    (3)
When I send a picture via email from Organizer from my ATT email address after it sends it, it puts it back in my MAC mail draft box.
I have to delete it and close mail out otherwise if I only delete it, it reappears again in the draft box.
    (4)
I have not tried any of the other features, Facebook etc, Heaven only knows what else I would encounter.
    (5) Periodic crashes of Organizer while in it.
    (6)
The Notion that previously went from RAW edit to PSE for PP and the adjusted pictured stayed in Bridge or where I wanted to put it and now
Adobe decided that you need to use Bridge for RAW edit into PSE and then into another program (Organizer) is not the simplistic way it was originally designed for people like me.
    (7)
These issues occur with both RAW and jPeg files.
In the past several PSE always had a separate MAC version that came out several months after the windows version.
This time they consolidated the versions and I am concerned that this was a mistake that is leading to these issues.
I am a MAC User and bought a new DLSR Nikon D7000, Which Adobe told me that I would have to upgrade to PSE 9 to allow Adobe to work with the D7000.
I am guessing that there are too many issues here and Adobe should have check any MAC issues and issued a separate software package.
If anyone from Adobe reads these posts and gets PSE 9 to work with a combined MAC and D7000 or just corrects their issues contact me so I can use this program again as I have used for 10 years with any issues.
Otherwise I will have to after the holidays be forced to look for new software.
Again I state that PSE was the easiest software I could use and now it is a nightmare.
I decided to drag and drop out of PSE to the desktop and load them in iPhoto and email from there.
    Goodbye ORGANIZER !
    Greg
I am not going to spend hours trying all kinds of gimmicks and 10 step workarounds which as a person with limited computer skills will only get into deeper trouble.  I am already tired and frustrated spending the amount of time with this.
