Adobe 9 opening pdf's from web site

We recently upgrade to Adobe 9 from 8 and have noticed a slowdown in the time it takes to download and open a pdf from a web page link. Adobe 9 shows a download to a temporary folder pop up before the pdf will open. Adobe 8 did not behave the same way and seemed to open the same link faster. Is this controlled by an Adobe preference? We are using IE 7.0 and have new pc's with plenty of memory and processor speed so I know it's not the hardware causing the problem. Or is there a setting in IE 7 that might be causing this affect with the new Adobe version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Tommy

i would suggest a de-installation of Acrobat 9. Run Microsoft Installer Cleanup to remove any dregs left in the Registry. Disconnect computer from the web, turn off all virus and spyware protection. Then re-install.

  • I can't open pdf's from web sites since I upgraded adobe reader

Since I upgraded adobe, I haven't been able to open pdf's directly from websites--I just get a black screen (in Safari, or a white screen in Firefox).  I can sometimes right click on the link and either download the pdf or save it as a document as a work-around to enable me to open it.

I have the same problem.  Or similar.  A few weeks ago, i installed Adobe reader (because i had a pdf attachment that was unreadable in Preview, so i wanted to try Adobe to see if that would work; it didn't work).  Since then, i can't open PDF files on the web. I get a black screen or sometimes a white one. and i can sometimes open them indirectly, if there is the option on the link. I thought this problem started after i deleted Adobe however. I'm not sure because i wasn't expecting this problem and am not exactly sure the sequence of when things happened, but i wanted to delete Adobe reader because i had no use for it. Unfortunately, they didn't provide an uninstaller. I put the application in the trash and whatever else was in the folder, and emptied the trash, but got a lot of messages about various files not being able to be deleted because they were in use.  I think it was since then that i can't open PDF files.  Never had a problem before getting involved with Adobe Reader. Anyway,  as far as your answer goes, i have already deleted as much of it as i can.
Any other suggestions?  i downloaded the Adobe installer to reinstall it if that's what it takes. i need to be able to open PDF files.
    Thanks

  • Opening pdf files from web

New to forums. Trying to open pdf files from web, and no luck, despite following Adobe trouble shooting suggestions. Using OS 10.7.5.  no flickering or messages, just a tab with a blank screen. Older documents fine, nothing changed until this week. Downloaded X1 in attempt to solve problem.

Yes i tried following your list of commands and got the same error from MyMathLab by Pearson Publishing or the other link.  I'm beginning to wonder if they are protected.
As you probably guess - I am not computer savvy.  I will take my laptop to school tomorrow and ask another student.
    Thanks for your followup.

  • How do I open pdf file from web? Opening pdf docs from hard drive works fine.

    Hello,
I am unable to open pdf files from the web.  Documents on my hard drive open fine.  My computer gives me 2 error messages when I try to open web-based documents.  Thanks.

  • Not able to open PDF files from Web

Sometimes reader 9.3.1 in IE on Windows 7 stops working and it is not possible to display any more PDF files from web. Reinstall helps for a while.
By looking into running programs I found the acrobroker.exe starts and immediatelly shuts down. After a while IE responds with a generic acrobat problem that asks me to shutdown acrobat reader and start it again.
Any idea what might be wrong?
    Thanks

Did you check the settings of your mail client for handling attachments?

  • Plug-in PDF, Internet Explorer, unable to open a pdf file from web site. Question mark

    Hello,
A computer where Acrobat 9 Standard and Acrobat Reader 9 have been installed.
When I try to read a pdf file from a web site and read it in IE, I get a popup whith a question mark and no text.
The pdf file is not open.
I have try to reinstall the last reader but the problem is not solved.
    Thanks for your help.

Any ideas how to solve this issue?
Try using Protected Mode Off.  Then you will be at the same level of security that those other programs are running at.  You could also try elevating the iexplore.exe task.  That would turn off Protected Mode in that task automatically but then
you would be running also with Administrator level authority which might be excessive.

  • Issue with opening pdf file from web browser

I have Acrobat Pro ver 6 and Adobe Reader 9.1 on a computer.  when my user tries to open up a pdf from the web he is getting the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a WEb Browser.  Adbe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
What also happens is that Acrobat Pro ver 6 opens up and nothing is there.
I am not sure why he is getting that message since Reader 9.1 is installed.
Can any one shed some light on this for me.
This user needs to have Acrobat and Reader on his system.  I understand that there are issues with having both.
Also he has it set up so that any PDF is opening using the Reader 9.1.
    Thanks,

Your PC's default reader configuration for embedded PDFs has become confused, due to multiple Adobe PDF document solutions installed on one PC.
    Solution 1:
    Go to Start > Run
    Type regedit and click OK.
Browse to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe
Make sure that the correct Default data value is set for the path where Adobe Reader or Acrobat are installed.
    The default installation values are:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
    or
"C:\Program Files\adobe\acrobat 6.0\acrobat\Acrobat.exe" (not sure about this path.  Check on your PC to be sure)
depending on whether Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat is installed.
    Solution 2:
Configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application.
If you are using Firefox to browse the web, you can change this setting in Firefox by going to:
    Tools > Options
    Click on the "Applications" Tab.
The first item in the list should be "Adobe Acrobat Document".  Under the Action list, click the drop down arrow and select the application you want to read PDFs within the web browser.  Click OK, and you should be done.
If you're using Internet Explorer to view PDFs, try the below steps.
After you configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application, the browser starts the helper application in a separate window and displays PDF files within that window. Acrobat and Adobe Reader both include a preference that lets you specify Acrobat or Adobe Reader as the helper application.
To configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application:
    Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Select Internet on the left.
Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.
    Quit Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
The next time you select a link to a PDF file in the browser, a dialog box asks what you would like to do with the file. If you select Open It, the browser opens the PDF file in Acrobat or Adobe Reader (the helper application); if you select Save It To Disk, the browser saves the PDF file to your hard drive.

  • Opening and saving from web site pdf file

I found a site where you can download many pdf file. In order to automatize the process i would create a vi using activex.
i generate some url  like this "http://remotesite/folder/file1.pdf" and i want the vi open the site, download the page an save the file1.pdf in a desired folder. In this forum there are many examples that solve only  half of my problem, in fact they load in a browser the pdf file opening Acrobat reader but i do not know how to save the file.
    Thank you
    lelluzo

Why do you want to do this with ActiveX?
    Try the WinInet: http://www.mooregoodideas.com/goodLabViewStuff.htm
Simply use WinInet Easy Get Url, with a path to the file, and store the data as binary file. I used this a lot for the axact thing to are trying to do. Put the VI in a for loop, and try to automatically build a string that forms the paths to the files. Sometimes, I get the source HTML from a download page, and edit the HTML so I get a multiline string. This forms the input for the loop, and there you go. All your files nicelly on disk. Note that some of these sites will block after a few downloads, to prevent this sort of things.

    Wiebe.

  • I cannot open any pdf on any web site!

Any advice please. I cannot open any pdf on any web site!
This happened since Monday 16 Septemeber, after I downloaded and then uninstalled Adobe Reader.
My Safari preference is "allow all other plug-ins", and preview would open pdf downloaded files to my MBA, but not if on the web.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Print multiple pdf from web site

    Hello everyone!!,
I need print multiple pdf from web site (web page) to the local printer o client printer.
I have investigated : cfexecuted, java code, javascript, but i can't do it.
The idea is don´t open printer dialog box for to print.
    Thanks.

It is NOT POSSIBLE (for security reasons) to do silent printing in this way.  (you wouldn't want to visit a web site and have your printer start spewing out page after page of profanity, would you??)
You can, however, offer the user the choice to print and then have it print.  That can easily be done by embedding JavaScript into the PDF to be printed.  If you have multiple documents, you should merge them together on the server first and then send a single document.
