  • Adobe Reader cannot play embedded Flash content

I don't know why, the Flash format was originally created by Macromedia, and then Adobe acquired the company, but the Adobe Reader cannot display Flash content.
    My PDF file is here:
    http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/agi-book.pdf
    Scroll to page 37.
The original SWF file is here:
    http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/unified-AND-OR.swf
which *can* be played on my Chrome browser.
But when I embedded the SWF file in the PDF, the result is unplayable.
A clue is:  Adobe Reader asked me to download QuickTime to display media contents.  So I downloaded QuickTime.  But QuickTime nowadays has removed Flash support.  Why did Adobe Reader ask me to download QuickTime to display Flash, when Adobe owns the Flash format?
I have also tried selecting other media players in the Reader's option box (eg, Windows Media, Windows built-in, Adobe Flash, etc) but none of them works.
I have also tried using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.  Same result.
It seems to be a problem with Adobe Reader.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Adobe Reader most certainly CAN play embedded Flash content, but only if you embed it properly.
You're seeing a Quicktime warning because you're embedding the SWF as "legacy media" content - this is no longer supported for authoring and is disabled by default for playback. You should use Rich Media Annotations instead (embedding using the multimedia/flash tool in Acrobat 9 or Acrobat X).

  • Adobe flex and SRM

    Hello  friends,
Adobe flex is coming up in the market with rocket speed?  If I want to compare this product with SRM, what would you think will be the pros and cons/ advantages and disadvantages of Flex over SRM?
    Thanks,
    Pat.

    Hi,
Adobe Flex is a collection of technologies released by Adobe Systems for the development and deployment of cross-platform rich Internet applications based on the proprietary Adobe Flash platform. The initial release in March 2004 by Macromedia included a software development kit, an IDE, and a J2EE integration application known as Flex Data Services. Since Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005, subsequent releases of Flex no longer require a license for Flex Data Services, which has become a separate product rebranded as LiveCycle Data Services.
Pat please help me understand in what ways you want to compare Flex with SRM.?
SRM is a complete ERP product where as Flex i kind of add-on.
    Thanks

  • Abandoned InterAkt customer looking for InterAkt staff

    Hi
Just back from the deserted interAkt forums where I posted but no echo.
It would be great if some of the staff in the discontinued InterAkt products can support me over here.
Somehow,I didnt pay attention during the upgrade time to DDT,then I tried since mid november to no avail.
I own MX Kommerce(includes MX collection) that is upgraded by adobe to ADDT,but now am left in the wind,no support,no upgrade.
Since interAkt customers still access their accounts and can download their discontinued products, they also have rightful access to upgrade as the product changed ownership(which is not our fault). Now neither are we interakt users nor adobe users.
Last time i called I was asked to pay $477 to upgrade to Web standards. Now it is not like we want to upgrade because we want more features,in our case,it is a replacement as the product is discontinued.
My other technical problem is here:
Anyways,am working on Classifieds Ad tutorial found here:
    http://www.interaktonline.com/Documentation/MXKollection/077000_tutorialclassifiedadssite. htm
Am stuck since 3 days at this section here:
    http://www.interaktonline.com/Documentation/MXKollection/077210_listadsbycategory.htm
    at paragraphs 9-10
When i fill that table and click ok,it shows 0 rows from my database, though it has 2 rows that are shown just prior to filling that table. When i save and click ok,I got the error fromhell:
    TypeError:BeforeNode has no properties.
Although the tuturial does not mention linking the Category table,i linked it as well as the subscription table but still no change.
please help me if am missing something ?
Thank you very much for your support.

    Hi Mori,
It would be great if some of the staff in the discontinued InterAkt products can support me over here
that´s regretfully not something that can be expected -- as with all Adobe (and Interakt) forums, the ADDT forums are user-to-user ones as well.
Somehow,I didnt pay attention during the upgrade time to DDT,then I tried since mid november to no avail
as I have heard, MX Kollection customers had until 16th of June 2007 to get their upgrade, that is, the upgrade program to ADDT has
    expired.
Since interAkt customers still access their accounts and can download their discontinued products, they also have rightful access to upgrade as the product changed ownership
as I´m no official Adobe support either, please take the following as personal opinion :: the fact that a customer can still download a product he paid for, doesn´t automatically imply that he´d be eligible for an upgrade per se, and the license of whatever product you purchased is related to that product only, not any follow-up version that´s not even developed/planned at the time you´re purchasing some license for whatever product.
In regards to the "changed ownership" aspect it must be said that Adobe did grant a certain generous grace period to get an upgrade for free, but accomodations like this can not be expected to get sustained forever.
Last time i called I was asked to pay $477 to upgrade to Web standards. Now it is not like we want to upgrade because we want more features,in our case,it is a replacement as the product is discontinued.
I ´m somewhat struggling with this statement obviously issued by some Adobe sales staff, all the more ADDT is not included in the "Web Standards" pacakage as well. Seems a pretty good deal though :-)

  • Adobe cs4 P.Shop, Illustrator, Fireworks constantly crashing.....

This has been going on for a while now.
1 out of any 10 times I use the layers palette to move a layer....boom, photoshop disappears / crashes along with whatever i was doing since last save.
    The same happens in Illustrator.
Fireworks does this (as does Dreamweaver now i think of it) 1 out of 10 times I use the color picker.
    Deleting prefs, changes nothing,
System update does nothing (this has been happening since 10.4.x)
    Adobe updates does nothing.
    This is driving me insane.
    Setup:
    MacPro 8core, 6GB Ram
    2x 500GB HDs Striped
    MacOSX 10.6.1
    Wacom Intuos 3
tried reinstalling SW from original disks, no joy....
    anyone else et this?
Almost 20 years using adobe products, never had it this bad before,

I Agree, since Adobe acquired Macromedia, who were far far
better at creating the software, and would actually bother making
the effort to test stuff before shipping it out the door!!, Still
using Dreamweaver 8 Works like a dream lol!! Far better than cs1,
    2, 3 or 4.
Recently bought a copy of fireworks CS4, the bloody thing
keeps crashing and now it has decided that it will ask me to accept
the license aggreement when I load it up and then just crash!!
thats it.. back to fireworks for the moment!!!!! Stupid bloody
retards Adobe are!!! should be shot!

  • Importing / Opening Adobe PDF files

I apologize if this topic has been covered in advance but I have searched until I am blue, and cannot locate any help.
Having said that, I was astounded to discover that Adobe InDesign CS3 does not recognize Adobe PDF files!
That deserves a resounding "Shame on you, Adobe!" After all, the whole idea as I understand "Portable Document File" is for easy portability between applications and platforms. For an Adobe application to not open a simple pdf file (text only) is totally beyond me.
Can anyone help with any work-around?
Shaking my head in disbelief is giving me a head-ache!
    Thank You,
    Jim Myers

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I was looking in the wrong places for your posts. I'm not that familiar with using forums.
Thank you to all who have replied.
I guess I need to do a better job of explaining my problem.
My resume was originally created in Freehand. I like the formatting of it, and would like to retain it as is. I've read the writing on the wall since Adobe acquired Macromedia, and fully expect Freehand to disappear.
I have had jobs which required me to use Freehand, as well as those who use Illustrator. They both have their strong points, but I realize we're going to end up with no more Freehand, so I want to port it to an Adobe product. Since Illustrator does not support multiple pages, I thought In Design would be the appropriate application.
I own Creative Suite 3 so I have all of the Adobe design products including Acrobat. I have been opening PDF's in Illustrator for a long time with a lot of success.
However, when I try to "open" or "import" the pdf's that were created by exporting to pdf from within the freehand document, neither option are available. The pdf document is greyed-out when I select "All readable documents" and when I use "All documents" I get this error message:
Cannot open the file "Editable Fonts.pdf". Adobe
InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in
that supports the file format may be missing, or the
file may be open in another application.
I hope I have been clear enough with my problem. Can anyone help?

I'm aware that I can place the pdf in InDesign as a guide, and re-typeset the document, but I'm hoping to learn the proper method for importing a pdf. Although my resume is only 3 pages (including a page of references), I know that I may have an instance with a much more complex pdf in the future.
One possibility is that the pdf created by exporting the Freehand document is not the "proper" pdf? But I don't know for sure, or how I should try to save it out of Acrobat?
I hope I have been clear enough with my problem. Can anyone help?

  • Adobe Fireworks vs Illustrator advise needed

    Hi!
Having used Fireworks for the past 6 years i feel that i have reached a limit, With illustrator doing the same thing does it do more? My focus is around web content, creating menus, interactive rollovers etc...
    Any advice/thoughts?
    Many Thanks!
    Steve

Illustrator will not do more than Fireworks in the area of web graphics. Illustrator is primarily print-centric. It (and programs like it) pre-date the widespread proliferation of the web by many years. Web-centric accomodations have been added here and there over the years, but those are like scattered "me, too" features, not the primary thrust.
For example, Illustrator can export various web-centric raster formats, but it can't do much at all in the way of *editing* raster images. It has a few conveniences for getting vector artworks into Flash (often with less-than-optimum results).
Illustrator does have more (and/or different) vector *drawing features* than Fireworks. And its PostScript heritage makes it appropriate for the technical considerations of print (ex: CMYK and spot-color color separations).
So generally, Illustrator (along with its direct competitors) is a general-purpose vector drawing program. Its environment is generally print-centric and static (the fore-mentioned minor hooks toward Flash notwithstanding).
That's important if you are doing commerical work for clients *beyond* just web graphics, because it is usually far better to create for print first and then re-purpose for web than the other way around.
So back to your original question: You might get use out of Illustrator to draw more elaborate (or just different) things than you are accustomed to in Fireworks, and then bring them into Fireworks. But be forewarned, the "old vanguard" vector drawing programs (Illustrator, FreeHand, CorelDraw, Deneba Canvas) are very different from Fireworks in their interface and organization, and among those, Illustrator is (to my mind) the most confused and scattered.
So you'll be in for a significant learning curve. Don't get me wrong; it's certainly not rocket science, nor is it anything to fear. I'm just saying to anticipate some initial frustration and confusion if you expect to just pick it up and use it based on your Fireworks experience. (An AI-only user would also be initially disoriented in Fireworks.)
Bear this in mind also: The fact that Adobe now owns both Illustrator and Fireworks should not in any way lead you to expect the two programs to be similar or even "integrated" to any large degree (yet). Adobe acquired Fireworks when it bought Macromedia. Macromedia apps all follow a radically different (and in my opinion, better) organizational scheme than pre-merger Adobe apps.
You would feel more "at home" in FreeHand than in AI, because both FH and FW follow the Properties Palette "contextual inspector" organizational scheme of Macromedia apps. Plus, Macromedia built features to help "integrate" FW and FH; much as Adobe is now trying to do with AI and FL.
But that avenue is quite dubious now, because Adobe has decided to discontinue FreeHand. Illustrator and Fireworks will feel more an "odd couple" than would FreeHand and Fireworks. It's anyone's guess as to how much effort Adobe will put into making AI and FW work together (or for that matter, the longterm continuance of Fireworks); the focus seems to be toward Flash.

Bashing or accusing Adobe of this or that, it is not going to

Only if you roll up your sheeves and having an open-mind, and

Please try to understand that no app is perfecto! No one app
is perfect, that is. Almost perfect yet. Combination of two great
companies, "old" Adobe and 'formerly' Macromedia into "new" Adobe
System takes lot of time, effort, understanding and patience. That
is to say, Adobe isn't pretty much like M$, really.
I really strongly believe that Adobe does a pretty good job
in executing new or updating applications or develpoing new
products... and do a thorough Quality Assurance for each.
If I remember this correctly, believe it or not, Adobe is
about to release 16 products all together in matter of weeks away.
That is lot of work involved with those products under development,
    fixing some problems that arise.
Please try to understand that InterAKT was once a third-party
software developer, and of course now an Adobe Company. Intergation
of InterAKT product(s) into Adobe System going to take some time.
Bashing and throwing hot potatoes or eggs at Adobe isn't
    going to help.

Adobe lost a great number of customers just because many of

  • Is Adobe CS4 Full of Bugs?

Almost every Adobe CS4 product I use, is giving me some sort
    of problems.
Fireworks CS4 is constantly giving me 'error occurred' or
'internal error' message. It doesn’t matter if the file is
large or small, with one page or 4 pages. I have lost some work due
to this problem so now I crl+s every minute, it is really annoying.
Flash CS4 keeps crashing randomly with no obvious reason
Indesign CS4 is behaving strangely after some use, either
menu doesn’t work well or you can’t change or select
font etc, so I have to close and restart the application.
    After effects CS4 crashes etc.
So overall I am really unhappy with CS4 products. Since this
is a Fireworks forum has any one got a solution regarding the error
    occured messages?

  • Adobe GoLive

I was an old fan of Adobe Golive.I realize Adobe has chosen to stand behind the Dreamweaver product. Does anyone know of a program to help someone like me move from Golive ( very easy and intuitive ) to Dreamweaver ( a bit cluttered and difficult)?

Moving to unfamiliar software is always difficult. FWIW, when Adobe acquired Macromedia, I decided to give GoLive a test run, just in case the decision went the other way and GoLive was the program that survived. I didn't find it intuitive at all. I found myself going round in circles, and eventually gave up.
That's not to say I don't believe you found GoLive intuitive. The difference lies in the approach to web design. GoLive approaches web design from the visual point of view. Dreamweaver takes a more technical approach, with the emphasis on the HTML structure. The advice that is given to all newcomers is to brush up your knowledge of HTML and CSS. Then, working with Dreamweaver becomes a breeze. Design view and Live View give you a very good indication of how your page will eventually look in a browser, but if you work exclusively in Design view and take no notice of the code you are generating, you'll struggle. The transition can be painful, but I know several GoLive refugees, who eventually came to understand the value of the Dreamweaver approach.
    Good luck.

  • Need Authorware News Update - Future with Adobe ? Next Version ? Etc

I've been away from Authorware for many months.
I'm sure these questions have been asked before but hopefully
    someone will
be kind enough to give me a quick run down and update.
    - Any word on Authorware's future since Adobe acquired it?
    - What about the next version ? (if any)
    - Should we ditch Authorware and try to go with something
    else that is more
likely to be here down the road?
    thanks for any comments.

Speaking of other tools...is there anything out there that
    can actually
compete with Authorware and its vast custom possibilites? I
    get occasional
management requests to see if any new tools can do what AW
    can
better/faster/less overhead and so far nothing. AW is the
    most powerful
media based programming tool I have ever run across. Most
    other products
    are just training template wizards.

  • Is ADDT in active development?

I have recently downloaded the Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox trial and have completed the tutorials available for it on the Dreamweaver Developer Center. In 2003-2004 I was using InterAKT's products off and on, but I'd left web design altogether during the MX Kollection period. Now that I've returned to web design, I find that Adobe has acquired InterAKT and the ADDT product is what remains. Initially, I assumed this was a good sign for tighter integration. I thought that I'd simply get the ADDT trial, spend some time with the documentation, go over the tutorials, read through these forums and get somewhat up to speed and then make my purchase.
However, what I've found is that many of the tools that had been available to InterAKT users are not part of ADDT (and are now discontinued altogether), the documentation is very slim, there is little ADDT specific training material to speak of, and the robust forum interaction that InterAKT provided isn't occurring here.
It's not my intention to flame, rather simply to express my disappointment and my hope that Adobe works to remedy these shortcomings.
    - Documentation (The existing documentation isn't bad, it just strikes me a inadequate.)
    - Tutorials (Again, the four ADDT specific tutorials were good. I was able to follow them and my resulting applications worked as intended without any hair pulling. But I still do not know how to use most of the ADDT beyond guessing. What about tutorials explaining the Many-to-Many feature, the various User Authentication features, so on & so on?)
    - Forum interactivity (I suspect that the forum user-to-user activity would largely pick up on its own if the previous two items were met, but more developer-to-user interaction is really needed with this sort of product. That's a huge part of what made InterAKT so great.)
Beyond that, I have to wonder why features like recordset pagination are not included. That was something that was trivial to add with the InterAKT tools back when I was using in 2003-2004 but it appears there is no such feature in ADDT (unless I'm mistaken). The lack of KTML is unfortunate, but I have read the threads here explaining that at least there are alternatives.
I hope That Adobe places a higher commitment on ADDT in the future. I wonder what the future is for this suite of tools. It's a shame to see the InterAKT extensions in such disarray.
    JTueller

    Hi,
you´re certainly right, the current documentation is indeed behind what´s been provided when Interakt was still independant -- however, some users (me included) are in the process of contributing new stuff.
Adobe itself will expectedly not be enhancing neither the currently available tutorials nor the ADDT helpfile, so that´s up to us
Forum interactivity (I suspect that the forum user-to-user activity would largely pick up on its own if the previous two items were met, but more developer-to-user interaction is really needed with this sort of product.
the ADDT forum´s interactivity for PHP users has notably improved, wheras the ColdFusion and ASP folks are unfortunately not getting served that well -- mainly due to the lack of experienced Community Experts.
However, as *all* Adobe forums are user-to-user ones, any participance of the developers is not expectable -- that´s once again up to us folks to help each other, but I don´t see a huge problem at least in the PHP realm.
Beyond that, I have to wonder why features like recordset pagination are not included. That was something that was trivial to add with the InterAKT tools back when I was using in 2003-2004 but it appears there is no such feature in ADDT (unless I'm mistaken)
the recordset pagination you´re assumingly talking about has been provided by a separate Interakt extension which has been discontinued -- however that feature as such is still available when using DW´s native recordset pagination with recordsets created by ADDT
I hope That Adobe places a higher commitment on ADDT in the future
A far as I can see, Adobe itself keeps focussing on the main sellers (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash) and of course the RIA
(Rich Internet/Interface Applications) realm. The support for all other products
(including, but not only, ADDT) is sort of community-driven.
I wonder what the future is for this suite of tools
that´s IMHO never really predictable with *any* of Adobe´s products which, like ADDT, rather cover a niche market
It's a shame to see the InterAKT extensions in such disarray
not quite, as some folks are working on improving stuff behind the scenes -- stay tuned :-)
You personally seem to have sorta missed the MX Kollection area -- if you had been there at that time, you would have noticed that ADDT is actually the same as the last Kollection version 3.7, and that all Kollection tutorials still apply to ADDT. However, let´s see if some of the old Kollection tutorials can be retrieved, what would certainly be a good start

php script to process and send web email form data from forms
created in Dreamweaver, to the mail server. I went to their site
and it re directs to Adobe, and Adobe claims that they acquired
InterAKT a few years ago and included the above product in the
    Developers Toolbox.
I downloaded the developers toolbox yesterday and for the
life of me I can’t figure out where I could find it or how it
works, it's very frustrating. Which makes me wonder if I should
plunk down an extra 300 bucks for the developers toolbox,
documentation is spotty at best – I can’t find any
books or discussion forums on the developers toolbox on how to use
this feature in the dev toolbox. No one seems to know anything
about it on the Extensions forum. Can someone give me some info
    about this?
It seems to me there should be a simple way to generate some
PHP script for feedback forms created in Dreamweaver, especially
with the Developers toolkit. My other alternative is to buy a third
party extension to generate the scripts for 30 bucks, but if the
toolkit has it somewhere, where is the documentation or tutorial on
the adobe web site (which I dug for almost all day yesterday?
The Dev Toolkit has an option to insert a Captcha image so I
assume it's possible to do that too...
Or, Are there any on line tutorials which instruct on how to
create an email "Contact Us" form with Dreamweaver 4, which
includes info on writing the php script to process form data and
send it to mail server? If so can anyone direct me to it? Adobe has
one for Dreamweaver CS 3 on their site - but even that section of
the adobe site is not updated for CS4 and the tutorial even claims
that the Developers toolbox is not yet compatible with DW CS4 yet,
which contradicts the system requirements for the Dev Toolbox when
    one downloads it.

    Mr. Powers,
Thanks for the info! BTW I really enjoyed reading your book a
few years ago, it really helped me to learn Dreamweaver back then.
I’m quite rusty now and trying to get back up to speed after
not using it for a few years. Sorry to hear about the ADDT thingy.
Thanks for the thread DWFAQ.info, I bookmarked the threads
and will read them over the weekend. Thanks for the Dreamweaver
Developer Toolbox link too! I had no idea that there was a Dev
toolbox forum I was looking for it on the adobe site for two days,
now I just noticed it has been included on the main index page, I
don’t think it was posted there yesterday but maybe I missed
    it.
Does anyone know if there are any books possibly in the works
or being planned for the toolbox?
Also I’m kind of curious now, are the mixed feelings
about the toolbox because it (appears but I’m no expert), to
be a bit less user friendly for the average web designer? Either
that or just not enough documentation yet?
I had never heard about the toolbox until I bought my CS4
suite a few weeks ago. From above -
    quote:
"what has now become Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox"
    - what
was the toolbox? Is the toolbox the former InterAKT suite or
extensions? Or was it a mix of theirs and/or other extension
authors stuff? Did adobe buy up a few companies and add their own
stuff to it and market it as the toolbox?
When was the toolbox first released? Recently? Did Adobe
create it out of the merger with InterAkt? I’ve been out of
the web design loop for a few years, just trying to catch up on
    what’s been going on lately.

  • Is there a multi-authoring solution with RH Server apart from RH client?

    Greetings:
Is Adobe looking to price itself out of the HAT market?
Just got the pricing on RH Server 8 ($2000) and then another $1000 per RH 8 client (as I write this I am still verifying the pricing, because they first told me each user will need a full RH Server 8 license, meaning $10K for 5 authors). For five authors, that's $7000 (unless its $10,000 ;-), and about 99% overkill on the multi-authoring side, since we only need one RH 8 client for management and publishing, and a simple WYSIWYG for additional authors is all that is needed, and indeed the learning curve for RH versus a WYSIWYG makes this paying a lot of money for a huge training burden & support headache. Is this for real?
I'm researching HAT's and I've got the same or better featured server/multi-author scenario going with HelpServer for $4000 (unlimited additional authors), Doc-To-Help Enterprise for a mere $1500 (also unlimited authors), and Flare complete with Feedback Server and 5 X-Edit author/users for less than $3500, not including support packages. Considering the fact that there is virtually nothing RH does the others don't, and quite a bit the others do that RH does not, I have to wonder -- why is there no simple to learn, inexpensive to buy WYSIWYG (something like Contribute) for multi-authoring in RH Server?
Since it's all HTML, we could in fact go with Contribute, but direct changes would not be reflected back in the RH client files. That's about the only thing that would have to be automated beyond a Contribute-like WYSIWYG, or what am I missing?
Just occurred to me, could have Contribute users make changes to RH shared directory, then they could be published from there. Hmmmn.
Anyone have a workaround or other solution here?
    Shame, shame, Adobe.
    regards,
    Steven
    "I am but an egg."
    --Stranger in a Strange Land

    Hi Steven
Dems the breaks I suppose. One way past it would be to have one RoboHelp Server license and one RoboHelp Office license. Then have the other authors simply use Microsoft Word to maintain their content. The person that uses the RoboHelp Office (Client part) could then import and link the Word documents managed by the other authors. If you worked that way you would only be looking at a total outlay of $3,000 instead of $7,000. But I suspect that you might get a better deal than $7,000 if you worked with Sales.
Keep in mind that RoboHelp Server relies upon the content created by RoboHelp. There is no "limited WYSIWYG editor". All it does is provide reporting as well as project merging. There is nothing about it that lends itself to a simple WYSIWYG editor that provides a window into the server content.
I cannot speak to the other tools you cited. Maybe they do work in that manner and maybe they don't. And maybe you are misunderstanding the actual capabilities. I cannot say.
Additionally, it's helpful to keep in mind that the way RoboHelp works today was initially designed and maintained by the folks now known as MadCap. Because of that, I'd be surprised to find that the MadCap products operate in a totally different manner. Maybe they do. Adobe acquired the product by virtue of acquiring macromedia. So they didn't design the way it works. Although they have enhanced it. I see no reason to shame Adobe.
Can you expound on your claim that " there is virtually nothing RH does the others don't, and quite a bit  the others do that RH does not". What ios the "quite a bit" that others are doing that RoboHelp isn't? RoboHelp seems fairly competitive with its feature set to me.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Don't understand the cc cleaner tool

Good morning and happy new year.
I must be the dumbest people here but I tried to follow the cc cleaner tool process explained here and I'm at a loss and stopped before making a fool of myself.
I went through the process 1 and 2 ie. I have a disk repair and an external disk backup of my system driver. (I use Win 7 Ultimate fully updated). My projects are NOT on the system drive as well as all the clips I use .
question : Will CC cleaner delete on the system drive any information related to my projects? I need a precise answer: No or Yes. The "perhaps", "maybe" etc evavive answers are not acceptable in such situations.
In  the step 2 of the help file I uninstalled with Win 7 uninstall manager different elements from CC and CS 6 that either I have no use of or that I wont use anymore as I want to stick to the latest version of CC which are PPro, AE  and Mediaencoder for the moment.
We arrive to step 3 and there I just don't understand why I should have to uninstall programs I uninstalled in the previous step. Will that step totally erase the whole programs of CC for example, or will it just clean remaining items or directories specifically related to for instance Prelude CC 2014 ? Can't people who write these messages in their scripts be once and for all precise in their wording saying what will be done?!
In this present instance I need to make a clean re-install of Mediaencoder CC as there has been most probably a problem during the recent update although it was completed without any error messages; I can't anymore re encode a project although I have not changed a line of it! The program stops suddenly and reboots my computer. I have not changed anything in the computer as well and the hardware is not the cause of the problem as it is only Media encoder which provokes the crash when it did not before the update.
This will be probably considered an ill mannered way of presenting my problem by I'm sorry to say that one cannot work cautiously enough and I don't want to see weeks of work erased and not usable even with backups because a user manual is not clear and precise in its wording. This infuriates me and I wish to know where I set foot!
Again sorry for my bad temper but really this is stressing.
Thanks in advance for your help

My project is on driver G, my clips are on D, E and G, with a majority of them on G; Cloud CC 2014 is on Driver C with Windows 7
B/What version of Premiere Pro are you running currently? Do you have any third party plug-ins or hardware you using in conjunction with Premiere Pro? Do you know what version of Media Encoder you were using successfully before the recent update and you started having problems?
I use exclusively since I took the subscription to Cloud CC, the latest versions, I check updates or upgrades every week and of course get notification also by the automatic Cloud manager of any new version. My last update was done on the 30th of December 2014. So yes I run with the most recent programs; the problems occurred just after! And got aggravated yesterday for no reason when Media encoder and Premiere Pro did not recognized MP4 format clips with an error message that the format was not supported!!! I hope Adobe did not decide to abandon this format, because it would put my 2 projects in full jeopardy!
Before the last update I had no problems. I have uploaded on Vimeo a provisional encoded file (see
    with password rja404177 .
I decided  to separate my project in two master projects concerning each of them the 2 parts of the video, with different names as to make the projects less heavy to manage by the computer and also easier to correct or change some of the effects controls especially the use of the curves RGB effect. I have a problem of getting an even colorimetric view between three different sources of files and cameras, one source is analog, the others HD and one of the latest has been more or less over exposed, so I check every clips with the YCscope and RGB parade and Vectorscope ( there could be a problem of color broadcast due to the red of the cliffs). Just imagine what would happen If I had to do it again! The full video is 1h10 minutes long! The video here corresponds to the first master project before the division in two parts. As I use nested sequences I have transferred in the master sequence here the 3 first sequences of the film (Titles, Las Vegas to Lee's Ferry, 1st day on the river).
Yes I have Video Copilot addons but which are not used in the project as well as Red Giant Universe Premium also not used here. In fact I seldom use special effects in these projects as they are kind of documentary on my raft trip down the Colorado in 1995 updated with films of two friends done 2011 and 2013. The only effects used are Cross dissolve and the Slide push one twice in the project for the last one. I use otherwise the default controls of scale and opacity if necessary. Soundwise, my tracks are declared 5.1 and used in conjunction with Audition CC (I've been a user of this last program for many years since it's creation by Syntrillium under the name CoolEdit Pro before Adobe acquired it!)
May I add that I'm not a novice with computers although an old froggy of 73!LOL! I began using computers in 1972 besides my job of Financial Analyst. I developed software in APL+ for stocks buy and sell decision making and created in France the first financial database in 1978 I was considered at that time like a perfect crazy guy in my business, good to be put in an asylum!!!. Since then I must say I had a good laugh! Try to prevent a trader to use a computer and databases nowadays and you'll see the speed at which he will throw you out of the window!
C/I would probably have focused on just Media Encoder if possible but whats done is done. Maybe you did?
Yes you're right I sort of thought of Media encoder first, but revised my way of dealing with the problem thinking that may be the installation had not been done correctly although no problem occurred during the update. I always update one program at a time waiting it to be fully completed before clicking on the install button of the next one.
D/ about the two methods of uninstall.
You say "The cleaner tool removes the same directories as the standard uninstaller. However the uninstaller is definitely the preferred method as it is done in conjunction with OS and the registry versus scripts which don't. The cleaner tool is generally used when the standard uninstall method fails "
May I say I'm not sure this is the right way to do from the user viewpoint. It is misleading. I'm again neither a professional in development although I mentioned what I did when I was not retired, and not a professional in Video editing etc.. I just address the problem from the user's point of view. If Adobe thinks that the Management panel solution is the best solution to have all the files eliminated let's stick to it. In fact one can see by using the CCleaner program that it does not eliminate all the register's problems after having uninstalled a program. So perhaps then it is justified to use also the Adobe CC Cleaner device. Then may I suggest that the phrasing of the step 3 be changed to make the user understand its real purpose. From what you say one induces that they are complementary. This should be perfectly clear in the user's brain.  When I tried to find answers to my problems on the forums it showed many times that people did not really understand what would happen, how the device was going to work. That's why I insisted in my question on the "precise, yes or no " etc.. answers required. I can dedicate time to such questioning, I doubt a professional having to deliver a final product under contract has time to make hypothesis on this matter if it occurs to him such mishaps....
    E/ miscellaneous questions:
Yes I use the default format proposed by Media encoder H.264  preset : Match source high bitrate which matches my project's settings. It worked three times before the update without an hitch. Why should not it go on like that?
The encoded files are saved either on the driver of the project file, or on the E external driver to make sure I do not erase the final encoded file by mistake. Poirot's little grey cells are a little bit rusty nowadays!
I had no problems before the update by working like that.
I did not try a different codec before the last event which is the impossibility of using my MP4 clips. By the way the projects contain also AVI uncompressed (codec UYVY) files (My quicktime version is also updated) and the native files of my Canon Legria AVCHD camera (AVC format) and  I used the AVI uncompressed format because I wanted to derush my analog files to eliminate any shots which were of poor quality. I use for this a small software: AVI Cutty which works only with AVI uncompressed files. So I used Media Encoder to pre encode my analog files in this format first; It separate automatically my videos in clips more or less corresponding to scenes. Again I had no problem since I began to use Adobe software more than a year ago with CS5.5 and then with CC 2014 since last September as a yearly subscriber.
Both projects have the same problem.
I checked the Windows task manager while encoding and I observed this:
a/ the crash occurs randomly in time.
b/ it seems that each time the encoding passes on a cross dissolve section (I'm not certain of that it can be also the changes in the curves RGB effects settings from one clip to the other.) the CPU usage curve reaches a peak around 95 to nearly 100%. I suppose the crash occurs when the 100%+ is reached.
c/I've checked my system driver's integrity, there is no problem here. I did the same for the memory which is ok too.
d/ No I did put the question on other forums because I did not find the right place to put it.
I do my best not to pollute other forums with non related questions.
e/ As for the recognition of the MP4 files, other programs like the Windows mediaplayer recognize them so it's not a question of corrupted files.
f/ I've just checked with the reinstalled media encoder. I did not re-encode but I do not get any more messages that the MP4 format is not recognized! Thank god! Remains to test the re-encoding itself and PP when the installation is over.
Well I hope this long answer gives you a better idea of what is going on. I'm finishing right now the re installation of PP AE Media encoder and Audition and will come back to you with the results.
    Thanks again
    Best
    Claude
