Adobe Acrobat 7.0 no longer converts docs to pdf

How can I get filemaker activated again? I keep receiving an error message and update but it doesn't take. Am I just sol becasue I'm now using Office 2007? Thanks!

We're also having the same problem -- That Acrobat 7, since our recent "Word 2007/Excel 2007/PowerPoint 2007" upgrade, will no longer convert Word or Excel files (whether .doc or .docx) to PDF. (However, Acrobat 7 is still able to convert Publisher and image files to PDF.)
We've had success will using Word 2007 to create the PDFs. We select from Word's upper left icon, "Save As" and then "PDF or XPS." On the next pop-up window, you can make further selections, before publishing, even bookmarks, if applicable.
So it seems that Word 2007 is working OK for our PDF conversions for now...

  • Can no longer convert DOC to PDF

I've been using Acrobat 6 Pro for years to convert Microsoft Word (2003) DOCs to PDFs.  After a power failure, some of my Adobe products had to be repaired and re-registered.  On the other side of this procedure, I seem to have lost the conversion function.  When I click the right mouse button over a DOC file I still get an option of converting the file, but nothing happens.  How can I restore this function?  (my Acrobat 6 Pro was part of the Adobe Creative Suite Premium package).

But can you print to the Adobe PDF printer? Please check. This is the base of all the conversions in Acrobat and if it does not work, none of them work. If it works, then you need to check for the Adobe icons (toolbar) in WORD to be active. It has to be active to be able to use PDF Maker. But again, the basic process is really the printer and should be the first thing you check.

  • Can I use Adobe Acrobat X Pro to batch convert v1.6 PDF files to v1.3?

Recently I have posted up a project so the contractor can read the text in the PDF and create hyperlinks from these text. These PDFs are in format of engineering drawings.
He informed me that he was going to use PHP to read the PDF text as javascript cannot.
He then asked me to convert the version of our current PDF files from v1.6 to a lower version: v1.3, because php cannot work with higher PDF versions.
So I found this PDF version converter: [link removed by forum host] but it only converts one by one. I have like a few hundreds of them, so I really need something to do batch convert.
Could anyone help me out here? We (the small business I am working at) do not have Adobe Acrobat X Pro but will buy it if it can do the job.
Otherwise could anyone advise me of any other software that can do this?
    Thanks heaps.

Yes, Acrobat XI Pro can do this very easily. You can create an Action that runs the PDF Optimizer tool, which can convert the file content so it's compatible with any earlier version of PDF (as well as other things). Actions can then be run against a folder of files.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro won't convert Publisher docs to PDF

Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro won't convert Publisher docs to PDF. It converts other Microsoft docs.  Any suggestions?

How are you trying to convert?
Are you using the File-Print function, and selecting the Acrobat printer?

  • Error in converting *.doc to *.pdf

Running winXP home sp2, adobe pro 7.1.0
    This problem has started suddenly.
When converting *.doc to *.pdf a window titled AcroDist.exe-Application Error comes up:
"0x00441ae2" referenced memory at "0x0218ebbc". The memory could not be "read".
Acrobat stops and can only be stopped from the Task Manager. Try to print something in *.pdf -- same thing happens.
Anyone, any suggestions? I would be thankful.

    Gloria Mc,
This occurs with all .doc, Excel, .rtf, .txt (even when trying to print .pdf from a txt software like notepad. It does not occur with picture format files like .jpg or .tiff. I also can combine .pdf files.
As far as JR's question, if I generate a .prn file and drop it in AcroDist (Distiller), it tries to open Distiller and the same error message comes up.
All other functions of AA7 seem to work, only when trying to convert document files to .pdf is there a problem.
If I try to bring up Distiller by itself (no file), the same error occurs.
I'm still willing to try any suggestions. Thanks for your interest.

  • I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages

I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages and word on Mac running Mountain lion. How do I allow the user of the form to insert JPEG files when filling out the form and how do I allow the user to add more fields or groups of fields as needed.

The type of form yo're describing is possible if you create it in LiveCycle Designer. It may also be possible in Acrobat, but there are certain restrictions. The type of form is known as a dynamic XFA form. LiveCycle Designer is not available on the Mac, so you'd have to install the software on a Windows machine and learn how to create this type of form. The LiveCycle Designer forum here is a good resource for getting more help.
Reader 11 now supports creating new pages using templates with a form that you create in Acrobat (Acroform). This requires some JavaScript programming. It also adds support for using a button to display a page from a PDF, which can be an image or anything else a PDF can be. So the user would click a button, be prompted to import a page from an existing PDF, and the button (or a different button) displays it as its icon. This would require the user to convert the image to PDF first, which is relatively easy these days (e.g., using Preview on the Mac, or Word on Mac/Windows). This too involves a bit of JavaScript programming, but it's very simple and straightforward.

  • Is it possible to convert .doc to pdf  ?

    Hi..
I am very new to Livecycle Workflow...! I just want to know whether it is possible to convert .doc to pdf  ?
Just by googling i came to know that CreatePDF2 Service will do this Conversion ! But it throws me an Exception like "Conversion Exception :" Cannot connect to Adobe Service "...!
Can u guys pls help me out to slove the problem ?
    Thanks & Regards
    Karthik.

you don't know the format of a word doc? well, that's good for you because it's a nightmare.
    - check POI (http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html) to see if you can load-up the .doc then generate the .pdf with iText
    - personally i use the Open Office Bean to open the .doc, i save it in .sxw (OO format which is a jar of different XML files), then i use XSLT to transform content.xml in .fo then use FOP to build the PDF. sounds crazy but works fine (only on a machine with graphic support - not via Telnet, etc...)

A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Can't convert .doc to .pdf using Acrobat 9.4.3.

    Guys,
Last night for some reason Acrobat 9 suddenly stopped converting any MS Word .docs to .pdfs.  It gives me the following message:
Acrobat could not open 'XYZ.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications.
I swear it was working earlier. So I checked for an update and it gave me 9.4.3 so I updated and it didn't fix the problem.  I also tried several different files and got the same message.
    I'm using OS 10.6.7 Acrobat 9.4.3 and MS Word 11.3.5 (2004).
    Thanks,
    Solan

What version of Word do you Have?
Word 2004 if you had Acrobat as well the PDFmaker menu bar was installed by Acrobat you could convert a .doc Document to PDF.  It required the use of VBA and and a Macro which created the PDFMaker menu.  I was Secretary and Treasurer of an association for 30 years and I converted many a 2004 Word Document to PDF using PDFMaker.
You still had the same problems with word converted to PDF as today. If there are any section Breaks or Page breaks the pdfs were broken up into pieces you have to put back together.
I still have some .Doc files from early 2006 and with Office 2011, I opened one, and just saved it as a Pdf no trouble. I didn't convert it and didn't save it as a Docx.
I simply went to Save as and chose  PDF.
And I also went to Print menu> PDF> adobe quality PDF.  and was able to make a PDF.
Also I just went to print menu > PDF and just chose PDF which makes an Apple version of PDF.
I don't know where anyone got the idea you can't make a PDF from a Doc File.  Maybe in a future version That doesn't read doc. but for now

  • Try to convert doc to PDF, Unable to find "Adobe PDF resourse files, Ask help

    Hi guys,
I am tryng to convert word doc file to PDF by acrobat v9.0 pro, I got the message as "Unable to find "Adobe PDF resourse files", and "Acorbat could not open 'filename' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged ...".  I did several times to run the installer to repair it,  and remove and re-installed several times with different folders  for the Adobe acrobat. I also did check the setting by "Preferences" under the item "Edit'. But nothing changed. I use it for generating and merging 1 or more doc files into a PDF file, so the micorsoft word which can make PDF file or use PDF printer is not useful for my object. Any ideas and helps? I really appreaciate anyone can give me help, Thanks a lot.
    John

You don't need Acrobat for this at all.
If you select "Print..." there is a "PDF..." button in the lower left corner of the dialog. Click the button and select "Save as PDF..." or you can do "Open in Preview..." and save from there.
OS X has had the ability to generate PDFs since the 10.0 days. The whole graphics infrastructure is based on PDFs. You have no need whatsoever for Acrobat on the machine to do this.

  • Converting doc to pdf via Adobe Converter printer

I have Acrobat Standard 8.1.5 and for some reason I suddenly can no longer convert a document to pdf by "printing it to Adobe PDF converter in the Printer and Fax folder (Windows Vista).
I am not sure what has changed but I used to be able to do it.
    Any ideas greatly received

If you can print to file with the Adobe PDF printer and complete the conversion to PDF by opening that file in Distiller, then check your background tasks for AcroTray. AcroTray is necessary to automate the conversion process.

  • License for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro no longer works -- Why?

I am getting a very strange error message that indicates my license is no longer valid. I have captured a screen image of the error and would like for someone to look at it. Hopefully, this problem can be solved quickly, as I am in the middle of some Acrobat work. PLEASE HELP!
Note so far I have tried the following (in this order):
    1. Did a repair from the Help pulldown menu.
    2. Downloaded from Adobe a completely new Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (AA Pro 9) and then did a repair.
    3. Disable Norton's firewall protection.
    4. Uninstalled AA Pro 9 and then re-installed the newly downloaded AA Pro 9 (in 2.)
None of these fixed the problem. I have a Windows Vista (32-bit) platform.
Here are the details of the error message:
Label: Licensing for this product has stopped working
    Contents:
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling
and reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or Adobe Customer
    support for help.

After you uninstalled, you should have done two additional steps before the reinstall: 1. Deleted any left over parts of the Acrobat folder and 2. run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html. These are not sure to solve the problem, but in many cases the problem is related to errors in the registry that the cleaner resolves. Sometimes, there are also some corrupt files left in the Acrobat folder, particularly some bad addons that can be an issue.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 still can't convert Word 2003 files?

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/673769 is a link to the same discussion a year ago.  There was no option for me to add a reply, so I had to create a new discussion here.
HAS THIS PROBLEM BEEN FIXED?  Fujitsu's pdf printer S1500 comes with a full OEM version Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, which I just installed.  Immediately it caused problems with Word 2003, just as the above discussion link illustrates.  Clearly that's a problem with Adobe Acrobat not being able to read SOME fonts.  Where is there any bug fix for this?
Why would a customer want to upgrade Adobe Acrobat, if he can't get font support?  In my case, it appears that GREEK FONTS are not supported, which makes no sense, if the fonts are installed in Windows.  The pdf-converter knock-offs like Smart Creator PDF Pro can convert just fine -- so why not Adobe Acrobat?  Who wants to pay more for Adobe, if it is worse?
So again I ask -- has this problem been fixed?  Very unprofessional, if the answer is 'no'.
Very unproductive, too.  I spent hours on computer crashes, reinstall uninstall detect and repair, just like the posters in that thread above, from a year ago.  Businesses don't need this kind of aggravation.  IS ADOBE EVEN LISTENING?  Very unprofessional, if the answer is 'no'.

First, this is a user-to-user forum and not one for Adobe. They are sometimes around, but not on a regular basis. The lengthy discussion in the link did not apparently get folks to a solution. I did not see your handle in the discussion.
Two common errors were suggested, one the color setup and the other was font errors. Keep in mind that just because you have a font, it might not be able to be embedded in the file. That is due to copyright restrictions. The font file has to have the permission built into it to be used. That may be the case for any font that you download from another source. Most of the MS fonts are licensed for embedding.
Also, just because you have a font with the same name, does not mean it is the same. There are often multiple versions of the fonts, some that are useful and others not.
Out of the linked discussion, I have no idea what issues you are having -- there were many. I use AA9 with OFFICE 2007 and have no problems. I also use AA8 with OFFICE 2007. For AA7 I have a machine that runs OFFICE XP (2003). None of these have issues. To be able to help (if we can at all) it is necessary to track down the conditions when the problem occurs and possibly try to replicate it some. A few folks mentioned 64-bit systems in the linked discussion. The 64-bit systems have caused a lot of problems and generally require the updates for proper opertation.
From the point-of-view of trying to fix things without delving into the specfics, all I can suggest are a repair and then updates to the latest version of Acrobat. The updates should be able to be done from the Help menu, but if not from there you can download them from the Adobe Downloads>updates site.
Probably not considered much help at this point, but I really don't have enough information to home in on the problem. It may be that my copyright comment about fonts is really the issue (you should get an error message from Distiller if you print to the Adobe PDF printer that suggest the problem. As far as other packages, if they do indeed embed copyright fonts that do not have permission, then you are technically violating the law, even if allowed by the software. I have no idea if that is the case, but it is a possibility.
