Adobe Acrobat 8/CS3 Combo

alright so i just purshased a alluminum macbook 2.4, and have a legit DVD set of the CS3 Full package, and havent had any problems as far as the Graphics app goes...but I use Acrobat Pro more than anything...I have no problem with the program except using the Printer Driver to pdf combined documents (oversize plans) that have specific setups/page sizes. I was previously running Tiger on my 07 White Macbook, with the same package and didnt have a problems...not once!
Where I get stuck
If I pull up basically anything and just File>Print>Acrobat 8.0 Driver to create the document, it sits in the "Q" for about 3-5 secs, and stops(turns off) the printer automatically, and NOTHING will process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS (another issue)...I just combined 32 pdfs for a set of drawings - all with the deminsions of 24x36 and I wouldnt even let me save them to the Deskktop, because of some error....I never had so many problems with Acrobat....maybe a re-intsall?

Try first updating to latest version of Acrobat 8 (I believe 8.1.3).
Now go to printer Utility and delete the Acrobat 8 Print driver.
Now open Acrobat 8 again and go straight to help menu and choose repair and replace.
click to open. and choose to reinstall the Print Driver.
Now try to create a PDF document using an application such as word. See what happens.
Report back.

How can I install Adobe Acrobat without installing the browser extensions?

Hello All,
I am a computer Technician at a high school and we have very strict browser requirements for different services. We need to use Adobe Acrobat to convert PDF's, and other tasks, and we need to use Chrome to open Adobe Reader files. The issue is that I want my 3 browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) to open PDF files using Adobe Reader XI. All my plugin settings are correct to use Adobe Reader to open PDF's, but it either downloads a PDF to the computer, or opens up in the browsers default reader (Chrome does this), or opens up to a blank page with a blank error message. I went into the programs Internet settings for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat and it's telling me the browser opens them up using Adobe Acrobat (With no option to change the setting). The problem is only solved when I uninstall Adobe Acrobat.Then I am able to open PDF's in Adobe Reader just like I want (but this gets rids of Acrobat). This leads me to believe that when I install Adobe Acrobat, there is a registry key or something that is telling the computer to open PDF's in browsers using Acrobat. My initial question is this: How can I install adobe Acrobat without linking it to the browser. I JUST want Adobe Acrobat as a program installed on the computer.
Additional Info:
- I build a computer image and use that image on several computers. This issue persists with all of the computers I installed the image on.
- I am using Adobe Reader 11 (Now DC, but I am willing to use either) and Adobe Acrobat Pro CS3 (I think it's version 9?)

Time Machine Failure due to Adobe Acrobat Professional & Adobe Bridge CS3

Console reports failures with some files deep within the 2 folders..
Copy stage failed with error:11
Backup failed with error: 11
Every time.... so with Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Bridge Folders both on my exclude list... Time Machine marched on and finished back ups.
Hope this helps others with Adobe CS3 Packages installed.

Windows 7, Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat cs3 - will not create a .pdf from word doc

I can not create a .PDF file from a 2007 word.docx file. I have tried a few different word docs, including a document I created just to trouble shoot with.
I tried opening the .docx in Word and then going PRINT - ADOBE PDF. When I do this 'nothing' happens. No dialogue box opens, nada.
When I open Adobe Acrobat and try to 'create' I get this error: "Adobe acrobat could not open"name.docx" because it is not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...".
New Dell, Windows 2007, Adobe Acrobate pro 8 from CS3, Word 2007.

Support for Office 2007 applications began with Acrobat 8.1; so, you want that or better.

CS3 - Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro will not open

My computer crashed and I had to rebuild it. I am reinstalling all programs on new hard drive. Photoshop CS3 opens. And I have registered it...again. I cannot get Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro to open. It came with CS3. I have been using it for a few years. Can you help?

hello.   hey, thanks very much for writing back. i got some good info with a search or two. (info about what regedit is and what corresponds to it in OS X -- regedit allows you to edit "preference" keys for individual programs, OSX's equivalent for these keys are the .plists in User & System: Preferences and Application Support)
what i ended up doing was uninstalling Premiere Pro (not the suite, just PPro).   Then i deleted a few preference files:
from User /Preferences/Adobe:
com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist
com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.5.0.plist
and from System Preferences:
the file: Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs
and..
/.../Premiere Pro/5.0/...
AMEPrefs.xml     (i noticed that there's also a preference file in Media Encoder's own folder so i didn't sweat this one)

I then reinstalled Premiere Pro CS5, and fired up an old project and i've got playback of HD and DV files, and snappy editing and rendering, so hopefully i'm good to go.   I'm just going to stick with v5.0.0 because i actually don't remember ever having any trouble with it, and i don't remember v5.0.4 adding anything i was 'missing' or 'needed'
hopefully, this thread will be useful for any future folks that run into trouble - and it's got a solution for both Windows and OS X

Recently reloaded Adobe Acrobat/CS3 on Windows 8- will not work with printer

I recently trashed my old laptop and reloaded Cs3 on the new one with Windows8. When I open Adobe Acrobat, it will not allow me to "Create from Scanner" because it does not allow me to "Select a Device".
Even though I can print to the same device just fine in Illustrator or Photoshop, Acrobat does not seem to recognize the device.
According to Adobe Customer Care (HA!) the issue is not the activation because it shows I am already activated.
During the initial process of reinstalling CS3, it did ask me to insert my copy of Windows, which I skipped, because this new computer/laptop came pre-loaded and I don't have a disk, per-se.

Most likely an unresolvable compatibility issue. CS3 comes from a time where Win 8 couldn't even be dreamed of, after all. As suggested, update your printer driver and check the permissions on the device, but that's as good as it may get.

I don't use my old Adobe Acrobat very often but now i realized, that direct printing to Acrobat 8.0 is not possible with Lion - there is no error message but there is no PDF created - the Error Log says the following:

It is possible to create PDFs with the Distiller - it is also possible to save as PDF - i wanted to direct print via Adobe Acrobat 8.0 to use some advanced printing options which the integrated PDF creating tools in Lion doesn't offer and where Adobe Acrobat 8.0 says, that saving as PDF is not possible (i wanted to combine 2 PDFs with size 12 cm x 12 cm on one A4 page with cutting marks)

Acrobat 8 Professional was released in 2006. It's highly unlikely that it will work with Lion. It's time to upgrade.

CS4 suite serial number does not work for Adobe Acrobat Pro

I am looking for a solution for the serial number issue I am having with Adobe Acrobat Pro. All of other programs within the suite open fine, but when I open Adobe Acrobat Pro it asks for a serial number. When I type in the serial number, I am given a red "X".
I have called customer support, but they haven't been able to give me any information that will resolve my issue (uninstalled 4 times now). I have Vista and have looked online and on the Adobe website to find a solution. It looks like others are having the same issue from what I can tell while searching. I have run the script too and then reinstalled, but still nothing.

After some stupid upgrade in my computer (who knows as Microsoft is always doing something), my Acrobat 9 in CS4 stopped working. The error message said to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. So I went through the control panel and uninstalled it. I then loaded the CD and reinstalled. However the reinstall would NOT accept the orginal serial number. I called Adobe and they gave me a different serial number. Before I let the guy nof the line I tried the number and it did NOT work! So then he gave me another number which asked for the previous verison- apparently it was an upgrade number. Luckily I had my old CS3 software and I gave it that number and then it accepted the install. The program now works BUT there is no longer any ADD/REMOVE choice in the CS4 suite in the control panel. There is no way to automatically remove this program anymore! What a mess.
After reading some of the installation problems others have had and no solutions, I count myself lucky! At least I was able to get the program running.
Therefore my advise on the serial number problem is to get Adobe on the phonen and get them to give you a number that will work, and don't hang up until you know the program is working!
If anyone knows how to add the Acrobat to the the add/remove functions in the control panel, please let me know!

Adobe Acrobat 8 in Windows 7 only printing to prn

2 Weeks ago I lost my production laptop (Windows Vista OS) so I had to reload all my system software on a new laptop (Windows 7 OS), which included Adobe Web Premium CS3. My primary printer is the Adobe PDF Printer, which I had no problem with in the Vista OS environement. Now when I try to print to pdf from any software on this new laptop, the pdf printer will only print to prn. I have been to the properties dialog box for the Adobe PDF Printer and there is no Adobe PDF port shown. I deleted the PDF Printer as instructed in another discussion in this forum and opened Adobe Acrobat 8 to repair from the Help menu, but there is no "repair" in the Help menu. I have tried reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 8 but that doesn't seem to help. I am sunk without my PDF Printer. I have print jobs to send out to my printer today so I simply have to get this fixed. Any successful help that anyone can give would be very much appreciated. Thank you ahead of time.

It is important to note if you have a Win7 32 or 64-bit system. Also, you need to update AA8 to the latest version if possible. Folks have gotten it to work for the 32-bit version and I have seen one report from someone with a 64-bit system. Even under XP, you needed at least AA8.1 as I recall for a 64-bit system (vague memory that may not be correct). Anyway, an update is probably mandatory if you are going to have luck. The first thing you need is for the print driver to be installed so you get the Adobe PDF printer (you can use another PS printer if all else fails). You may have to print to file rather than use the normal route if AcroTray fails to run (the major issue with the system). If that is needed, you can change the port of the Adobe PDF printer to be file and automate the print to file as a result. Of course, the file has to be opened in Distiller to produce the PDF (a job AcroTray automates).

How do you Make an Interactive Drop Down Menu in Adobe Acrobat Pro That Uses Hyperlinks?

Hi first off let me point out and apologise in advance for my ignorance and possibly my misuse of the correct terms, I'm new to this.
Anyway here goes, my best attempt to try and explain myself. Using Adobe Acrobat Pro I am trying to create a drop down menu that lists a set of documents. Once you click an item in the drop down menu it then opens up the corresponding document. So far example the Menu reads "Documents" and below it there is three options "Dogs" "Cats" "Hotdogs" when you click on "Hotdogs" you open up the document for hotdogs etc.
I have actually done it once before using Javascript and a combo box and I think basically you buried the links to documents in a series of bookmarks, the Javascript code then was basically a shortcut to activate those bookmarks.
So in short, could someone please tell me the code I would need to make this happen? I have looked extensively for the right forum post to see if my question has already been covered but I couldn't find anything and I possibly could have been using the wrong search terms.
Please ask me to clarify anything to help you understand what it is I'm asking.

Then you can just add your own bookmarks and they populate the pop-up menu automatically (including the hierarchy sub menu structure, you nest bookmarks within a main book mark.) which is a more efficient way than the one I used before.
