"Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched..."

"Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component..."
This message has been coming up each time I read a PDF page during the past couple of weeks. The FAQ says it occurs when CS3 hasn't been activated, but this isn't the case for me, as I've been running CS3 Web Premium for some time without any issues and I'm up-to-date.
The problem isn't with PDF files stored on my PC but only with those downloaded and viewed in a browser screen (both IE and FF).
If I load PS or any other component prior to reading the PDF I still get the message.
Any help would be appreciated.
(I'm running CS3 under Windows XP Pro.)

I don't know the answer, but it sounds like you are running Creative Suite. I faintly remember hearing about this before. You might get a quick answer in the Creative Suite forum (http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bbf2708/). Bill

  • Adobe Acrobat Profesional Cannot Be Launched At This Time

I keep getting the following error message,
Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch atleast one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional
    Any ideas?

The problem seems to originate from the 8.1 update. I only have a two users on Acrobat 8 installed with the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium package. One user installed the 8.1 update two days ago and began to get the same error message as most reported here about having Photoshop running the first time he tried to open a PDF. The other has not installed the update and has not had the error or quitting problem. I tried MarkATS' solution, but when I entered our TLP (volume license) serial number for the Creative Suite 3 DP it was rejected by Acrobat. I had to enter a TLP serial specifically for Acrobat 8 which I fortunately had available. I am running the Acrobat 8.1 update, but originally installed from volume licensing media for Acrobat 8 with the aforementioned serial number. The update has worked fine with no problems for me. Thus the problem only seems to be with the suite product. It appears the update may have hindered the application's ability to recognize the Suite registration data.

I just migrated everything from an old Mac to a new one, but now Acrobat Professional will not launch. I get an error message: "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time......"

I used "Migration Assistant" to send everything from my old mac to my new which included my copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. I tried downloading an update but when it asked me to find the version of acrobat to replace it was grayed out and I was unable to select it. My OS is 10.9.4

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time.

    Hi
So i've trying to deploy CS3 Design Standard in our enterprise environment. And one of the deployments, requires that i have to deploy ONLY the Adobe Acrobat Professional component of the CS3 package.
I run the install, and untick Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign etc......so JUST leaving Adobe Acrobat Professional. It installs fine, along with the Shared Components etc.
But when i run Adobe Acrobat Professional, it pops up saying:-
Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional.
Now, as you can see i can't launch another suite component, as i've chosen not to install them. I'm assuming this is required so it can "register" itself. If this is working "by-design" then why does it let me install Adobe Acrobat Professional by itself, if i can't run it????

Simon = The rest of the CS3 package works great in a ThinApp package, doesn't seem to be any performance difference between install types. Plus you have the advantage of no extra registry keys or dll's floating into your system.
Peter = Thanks for the helpful comment, really helps me with this issue. And how is my installation of the product not "as designed".
Adobe give you the option of JUST installing Adobe Acrobat Professional, so if they allow this, surely it's BY DESIGN! The fact it doesn't work by itself means that Adobe should change their design to state the fact you need to install another suite product to allow it to work.
I've also tried packaging a standalone copy of Acrobat Reader Professional using VMWare ThinApp, but it does not work. And i've no problem with this, theres no real way to virtualize a device (i.e the Adobe PDF printer) so i'm fine with that.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time - why?? Pls help!

Everytime I open a pdf I get the following message...
"Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional".
    What does this mean?
I don't have Photoshop. Does that mean I need to get it to be able to look at pdf's?
Is there anything I can just download without having to buy it?
I have also just downloaded Adobe Reader 9.0, if that info helps?
Please help, I need to work on a pdf for work due tomorrow!!

    Hello,
When you try to open Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, the application returns the error "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional."
Please try to do one of the following solutions:
    * Open another Creative Suite 3 application first.
*Open any other Creative Suite 3 application and follow the on-screen instructions to enter a serial number and activate your software. Then open Acrobat 8 Professional.
But if you have MAC OS - Move the Acrobat, Adobe PCD, and Adobe PDF folders.
Quit any Adobe applications that are open.
In the Finder, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Adobe.
Note: This folder path refers to the Library folder at the root level of the startup disk, not the Library folder that is inside a user's Home folder.
Move the following folders to your Documents folder or another safe location:
    Acrobat
    Adobe PCD
    Adobe PDF
Important: Do not delete these folders.
      4.  Open Acrobat 8 Professional.
      5.  Enter your serial number when prompted.
    Hope this one could help.

  • Error "Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched" | CS3

    Hi Everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro with 10.7.5 and CS3. My Acrobat 8 Professional won't open and gives the error message "Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional."
I already had Photoshop open when I got this message, so I googled my error message and found this Error "Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched" | CS3
I followed the instructions for Solution 2:
Solution 2: Move the Acrobat, Adobe PCD, and Adobe PDF folders (Mac OS only)
Quit any Adobe applications that are open.
In the Finder, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Adobe at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder).
Move the following folders to your Documents folder or another safe location:
    Acrobat
    Adobe PCD
    Adobe PDF
Important: Do not delete these folders.
    Open Acrobat 8 Professional.
Enter your serial number when prompted.
When I entered the serial number that goes with my software it said it was invalid and I still couldn't open Acrobat, but now none of my Creative Suite would work as they all said they weren't registered. Thank goodness for Time Machine!!!! So I have reinstalled the folders and all the other components are working again, but I still can't open Acrobat. HELP!!!
I hope someone can tell me what to do. Thank you.

    Thank you Michael. It worked

  • Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time...

    I have Acrobat 8 (8.2.4) CS3. I get this dialog 10 seconds after I launch the program:
Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional
    OK
Even with another CS component open, I get the dialog.
    Any solutions?

From the second post listed in the like this column on the right:

  • Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2

Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2
Problem limited to Adobe Acrobat, MS Office 2008, Pages, Keynote.
Can print double-sided from Safari and Mac Mail
Using HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn. Have downloaded most recent driver from HP
    Computer: Apple MacPro Tower, 6GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, Quad-Core Intel Xeon, Processor speed = 3.2 GHz

Correct way to install new driver is go to Printer Utility and delete That printer from the list.
    Then install the new driver.
Then go back to Printer Utility and add the new driver Back
Then go to systems preferences and to Print Fax (or Printer if no longer setup for fax) and set up for the the printer and set as default.
This way you shouldn't have to go into either print menu or Page setup menu and set for desired printer.
most hp printer in the pint menu you click copies and pages and mouse down to two sided pages you choose either book (facing pages) or Tablet (printed as you would a Tablet that's bound at the top.
you need to test a two page document to see which does correctly for you. Its best never to have the application set for two sided. in fact if you have set for two sided in both one counter acts the the other.
So set it only in the printer menu and no where else.
Also once you set up you can save printer profiles that you can go back to click on the Presets button mouse down to very bottom save with a anme you can remember even put the words two-sided in title then save. Then you can go to that preset and print your heart out.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe Reader

I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 (AP) and Adobe Reader 9
(AR) installed on a WinXP system. Both AP and AR work, but if one
is open I cannot start the other: If AP is open and I try to open
a pdf file in AR (right click -> open with... -> Acrobat Reader
    9) the file opens in AP. If AR is open and I try to open a pdf
file in AP the opposite happens.
I am sure there must be a setting somewhere that turns this
behavior off but I cannot find it.
    Any help is appreciated.

You are simply finding another reason why Adobe does not recommend this combination. You may be able to try the /n command line directive to see if it allows multiple runs between the two.

  • How to uninstall the Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0?

I can't uninstall the Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 from my computer. It shows saying "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\7.0  Get last Error:5." It also can't be re-installed. How to do it?

If you still want AA7 running, then open Acrobat and use Help>Repair. If you cannot open Acrobat, then in Windows go to Control Panel>Programs & Features, select AA7 and repair. If you do uninstall AA7, it is likely you will not be able to successfully reinstall it without a new download. Check https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.ht ml. If you are to the point you have no choice but to complete the uninstall, then use http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html.

  • Adobe acrobat X cannot open PDF files in Firefox, though IE can. What gives?

when I download a page that's a PDF file from the Web, Firefox cannot open it, although Internet Explorer can. I just uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 because I had Adobe Reader X installed.

When I enter about:preferences#applications <Enter> in the address bar, then for PDF it shows:
pdf File (application/x-download) ... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
pdf File (application/x-pdf) .... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
Portable Document Format (PDF) ... Save File'''
I would like all PDF's to open in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
Right now none of the PDF's open at all, so opening in Firefox or any other viewer would be preferred over not showing up at all.

  • Open Adobe Acrobat Professional in Rosetta mode.

I have Adobe acrobat 8 as well as photoshop cs3. I am having trouble finding my scanner with acrobat (though I can find the scanner with adobe 7). I tried getting acrobat 8 to open in Rosetta mode but that's not an option. I can open photoshop cs3 in Rosetta mode and when it does open in Rosetta mode, I can use photoshop to scan documents. Is there some reason why acrobat professional cannot open in Rosetta mode? It is a universal application.

As far as I can determine, the scanning software is a Power PC application, though also with that application, when I get info, there is not the option to open in Rosetta mode. Perhaps I do not understand.
Being a PowerPC app is exactly why the program must run in Rosetta, which is a PowerPC emulator. That is, the type of CPUs Macs used before switching to Intel. That's why there's no option to choose Rosetta mode for a PowerPC app. It has no choice but to run through Rosetta.
Sounds like Skrocki has you covered though. Just get the latest software so you don't have to run anything in Rosetta emulation.

  • Upon closing Firefox 4, Adobe Acrobat Professional opens

Sometimes closing Firefox 4 causes Adobe Acrobat Professional to open (in its own program) and display an error message of "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDF in your web browser. Reader will now exit. Please exit your browser and try again." Is there a way to prevent this?

I am tired of this happening and no one can give a fix, so after using firefox for years, my only suggestion is go back to ie.
