Adobe Acrobat 9 (in Windows 7) - Saving removes fields & edit capability

I have been using this program for about two weeks, working on a very long form to create fields and formatting them without any problem.  I have been saving the form and editing the fields without problem.  I scanned the form initially to get most of the blank fields.
Yesterday I opened the form and began having difficulty.  The fields all disappeared.  I was no longer able to use the "add or edit fields" feature.  It is now grayed out.  Eventually I decided that perhaps the form had become corrupted (I had begun to fill it out and discovered fields missing, so was now going back and forth with some fields completed) from going back and forth.  It should work with some fields filled out from everything I have read, but just in case I scanned it again and made a new one.  The fields were all there, and I began again.   But as soon as I saved, the same error.
the interactive fields were no longer visible and the "add or edit fields" feature was grayed out.  It says I do not have security.  I have not changed or altered security.  I am baffled as to what changed, or what I need to do to get it to work again.  This is NOT a reader issue.  This is Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional, and it was working fine two days ago so it has to be a misfire in a setting that I just do not understand.
It says I am viewing a PDF/A (no idea what that means): Status: not yet verified.
Oddly enough it is inconsistent.  Once I was able to save a single page that left the fields in, but could not replicate it in multiple pages.  Then I could not replicate the single page phenomena.  I am at my wits end.
Thank you.

Can you tell me how to set the defaults to Courier 10pt font?  I tried select all and it's grayed out, but that was after the
fact.  Where are the original default presets?
Thank you in advance.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 w/ Autocad in XP Mode- not working

I'm running Autocad Arch Desktop (ADT) in Windows XP Mode within Windows 7, and have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed in Windows 7.  Unfortunately, no "Adobe PDF"  pulldown was created within ADT once Adobe Pro was installed, and there isn't any sign of Adobe in ADT (normally, Adobe automatically installs pulldowns within ADT once installed).  Adobe and ADT function normally otherwise.  Does anyone know how to get Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 to recognize and work with ADT in Windows XP Mode?

Because your software is far too old for Windows 7.

It would be helpful to know what version of Acrobat, WORD, and operating system.
Without that info, I would suggest at this point to open your WORD file and then go to the print menu and print to file using the Adobe PDF printer. Open the created file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, check to see if AcroTray is running in the background.
You say you tried many ways. It would help to know what you tried and what worked or did not work, and at what point the failure occurs.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows Server2012 ?

Is there a recommended Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows Server2012 ?
Will Version XI (11.0.06) for Windows 8 work ?
It is most annoying not to be able to open pdf files on Server.
    Thanks,

    Al,
http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html doesn't mention Windows Server 2012. I expect it should work. It should not kill the system. Give it a try an let us know.

I just bought a ScanSnap scanner and it came with Adobe Acrobat Standard for Windows - but I have a Mac - can I get the Mac version?

    Hi Dcee3,
Acrobat Standard has not been developed for Mac platform so Mac version is not available. It can only run on windows machine.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 in Windows 7 only printing to prn

2 Weeks ago I lost my production laptop (Windows Vista OS) so I had to reload all my system software on a new laptop (Windows 7 OS), which included Adobe Web Premium CS3.  My primary printer is the Adobe PDF Printer, which I had no problem with in the Vista OS environement.  Now when I try to print to pdf from any software on this new laptop, the pdf printer will only print to prn.  I have been to the properties dialog box for the Adobe PDF Printer and there is no Adobe PDF port shown.  I deleted the PDF Printer as instructed in another discussion in this forum and opened Adobe Acrobat 8 to repair from the Help menu, but there is no "repair" in the Help menu.  I have tried reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 8 but that doesn't seem to help.  I am sunk without my PDF Printer.  I have print jobs to send out to my printer today so I simply have to get this fixed.  Any successful help that anyone can give would be very much appreciated.  Thank you ahead of time.

It is important to note if you have a Win7 32 or 64-bit system. Also, you need to update AA8 to the latest version if possible. Folks have gotten it to work for the 32-bit version and I have seen one report from someone with a 64-bit system. Even under XP, you needed at least AA8.1 as I recall for a 64-bit system (vague memory that may not be correct). Anyway, an update is probably mandatory if you are going to have luck. The first thing you need is for the print driver to be installed so you get the Adobe PDF printer (you can use another PS printer if all else fails). You may have to print to file rather than use the normal route if AcroTray fails to run (the major issue with the system). If that is needed, you can change the port of the Adobe PDF printer to be file and automate the print to file as a result. Of course, the file has to be opened in Distiller to produce the PDF (a job AcroTray automates).

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 causes Windows to crash

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 crashes Windows when I try to open
    multiple PDFs.
This does not occur when opening multple PDFs in the Adobe
    Reader program.
Any ideas? Are you only allowed to run on instance of Adobe
Pro - I would expect a simple message indicating this and not a
crash - I recall being able to open multiple files w/ previous
    versions.
    Thanks...

    Hello AnasaziCannibal,
    Thanks for posting!
Unfortunately, you've reached the Acrobat.com forums which
are specific to the Acrobat.com website and its set of hosted
services, and do not cover the Acrobat family of desktop products.
Here is a link to the Windows Acrobat forums for you. This
will be a much better place for your post!

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard 6 & Windows 8

I own Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0.
Can I use it on a Windows 8.1 computer?
If not, can I upgrade Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 at minimal cost?
I will be purchasing a new Windows 8.1 laptop and discarding my old laptop.
    LenD

You may be able to get it to work with some workarounds that I have tried on various Win7 versions. The 64-bit system creates additional problems, so you may want to ask if a 32-bit system will meet your need. Even with the workarounds (if they would work for you), the extra effort to use them gets annoying quickly. You would also have problems reading a lot of newer PDFs I would guess. Now is probably the time to purchase a new version (as TSN, AA6 does not qualify for an upgrade). There was a sale before Christmas, but not sure if there will be another.

  • Picture in PDF broken in Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows

    Hi,
I always thought that Adobe's PDF-format is the ultimative, interchangeable file format. Well, what a surprise: it isn't:
I have a picture in a PDF document.
It is displayed fine on my Mac in Preview and in Adobe Acrobat 8.
The picture has severe distortions on Windows (eg. current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader).
You can find this PDF here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/285107/Picture.pdf
Please let me know how I can fix this?
Furthermore I would love to know why even Adobe cannot manage to display the PDF correctly under Windows?
    Thanks
    Daniel

Ok, just to summarize the status of my PDF:
Doesn't work in Adobe Acrobat X Pro (Win XP)
Doesn't work in Adobe Acrobat Reader X (Win XP)
Works just fine in Evince (Win XP)
Works in Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro (Mac)
    Works in Preview (Mac)
    Works in Skim (Mac)
So most of the rederers tested display it correctly. For me that looks like a huge inconsitency in the Adobe Acrobat product family. It is not platform specific, because it does work in Windows as well (using other renderers).
I have two issues with that:
How come that Adobe Acrobat seems to be the only renderer with issues with this file?
Why do some version of Adobe Acrobat display it, while others don't?
To me that really sucks since I trusted the portability of PDF and my own Pro version of AA on my Mac far too much!
My lessons learnt here: Do not use Adobe products since they cannot be used consistently accross platforms (see Flash for another example).
Since the support policy of Adobe does only offer this forum free-of-charge even for obviously valid bugs, I decline to report this (again) as a bug due to my own time constraints.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows XP

I just uninstalled my Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0, which apparently never got updated and did not work, and now I need to choose a later version compatible with Windows XP; however, I'm not sure if my older software can handle the latest version or not.  Which version should I use?  I'm not technically that savvy but know a few things!  Thanks!

I cannot answer you a second time on your last reply in the forum, so am using email.  I wanted to mark your answer as correct so you'd get points and can do nothing.  I'm a new member.
The great news is I did get Adobe Reader installed this morning, (as I had to work on getting the Windows SP3 running yesterday.)  All your info was excellent!  Thank you so much again.
Other problems have arisen:  I can only manually open a pdf attachment to emails by manually bringing up Adobe Reader rather than clicking on the attachment and automatically viewing the pdf screen.  The older version opened it automatically in Firefox, so I don't think it's a Firefox problem, but could be since I'm a novice.
I've done everything possible to troubleshoot this, taking an extra day to update other software, to no avail.  It now will not comply with all the automatic commands for my homepage, Intel pro-set wireless, and I cannot disable a dosearch.com toolbar I never saw before.  I have AVG 2014 but with the sp3 McAfee security; possibly they conflict.  All my updates for everything I can find are current.  It just may be time to take this pc to the shop.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro - Windows Terminal Server 2008

    Hi All,
Im hoping some one maybe able to help me on this, We have recently purchased the Adobe Acrobat X Pro for one of our clients and have just installed it onto their Windows 2008 x32 Terminal server. Inatall appeared to be fine, no errors reported and nothing logged into the event viewer. However we seem to be having issues with it... I did read a PDF guide early last week that said the X Pro should work fine on a Server 2008 - The install instructions where rather straight forward and I thought their would have been more to it than just installing it via the control panel.
The issue we have is the program opens up ok and is usable for about a min and it then crashes with no obvious reason, From looking in the event log it appears to report issues with the PDApp.exe and the Kernel32.dll - Has anyone come across any similar issues?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You can also send the crash dump by following the below mentioned steps:
    Install WinDbg from http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    Launch WinDbg via the shortcut
    Click File->Open Executable
    Select Acrobat.exe from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" and hit "OK"
Remember to press "g" and hit enter when you encounter the first breakpoint and then you will see a text "Debuggee is running" and Acrobat will be launched
Open whatever file is it that produces the crash in Acrobat.
When you have successfully reproduced the sceanrio causing the crash/freezing of Acrobat X, enter the below command in the WinDbg terminal
         .dump /ma c:\temp.dmp (Hit enter)
This will produce the crash dump at C:\ by the name of temp.dmp
After that please upload the dump (compress the dump using WinZip or likewise) at some third party sites and provide the link for the same. Also, if it’s possible could you share the PDF as well, for which your application crashes on a consistent basis.
