Adobe Acrobat 9 Truncating Hyperlinks

I thought I would give back to the community by sharing something I just discovered when using Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
If you have a long hyperlink in a Word document, I found that the hyperlink would work just fine in Word;however, when you "Print" to Adobe, the hyperlink is truncated - you can see this by hovering your mouse over the hyperlink.
To resolve this problem, I used the "Save as" Adobe Acrobat and (wonderfully) the complete hyperlink appears in the saved Adobe file and all works well.

In MS Word use the function 'Convert to Adobe PDF'. Printing to Adobe PDF doesn't create hyperlinks.

I need to import an MS Word form into Adobe LIveCycle, but when I do, I lose the Word doc's hyperlinks. (I have Adobe Acrobat 8.) I can't PDF the form before I bring it into LiveCycle because the form has tables that I have to tag for Section 508 compliance (accessibility for the visually impaired). Is there a way to preserve or re-create the links?

Try using If Your using a Mac and have Apple's iWork Package use the Pages to create your Form. Then export the File as a .docx File. The links should stick.
Adobe never has made an effort to work with Microsoft. They are like two RAM Sheep butting heads. Its been a Problem since Acrobat 3 and Inever foresee a time when they wil cooperate with each other.

Microsoft Publisher 10/Adobe Acrobat X hyperlink problem

I created a Micosoft Publisher 10 newsletter (August 2010) with several hyperlinks including a "Find Us on Facebook" link. I then saved that document as "November 2010" and then deleted the Facebook link in the November document. Then I saved the document as a PDF. My problem is the Facebook hyperlink is showing up in the PDF when there is no actual hyperlink for that link. It is showing up on the whole page (actually 3 separate pages) in the document. The other links work fine. In the Publisher file, it doesn't appear to have the hyperlink.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem has been solved. The Publisher document had 3 layers of text
boxes and the hyperlink was in the bottom layer of text. It was hidden under the
other layers of text boxes.

How to open hyperlink of PDF file uploaded at SharePoint(hosted at Office365) in 'Adobe Acrobat' for annotation and comments.

I've a hyperlink of PDF file which is uploaded under SharePoint Document library(hosted at Office365 E1) on my custom '../SitePages/Approver.aspx'. Once user click on that hyperlink it should ask me to "Check-Out & Open' pdf file directly from sharePoint document library then it should automatically gets opened into 'Adobe Acrobat' where user will do some annotation/ comments in that pdf file & again 'Check-In' back his changes to SharePoint Document library.
Following article will explain how I want to Check-In & Check-Out pdf files from SharePoint document library once i click hyperlink on my '../SitePages/Approver.aspx' page.

Hyperlinks not working in adobe acrobat 7.0 browser control type library 1.0

Hi,
We have used the adobe acrobat 7.0 browser control type library 1.0 in our VB 6.0 project to show the pdf files.
We generate pdf files using oracle reports. We have generated some pdf files which contains hyperlink to UNC path.
If we open that pdf file using acrobat reader it works fine and we can access the file kept on the path specified at hyperlink,
problems arise when we open that file from front end ie. from VB 6.0 which uses the browser control, we are not able open the files through the links.
Could you please help us on this. Are we missing any properties or methods of the browser control? Or we need to use higher version of the control.

Thanks for your reply. I'll check at Adobe forums as you suggested. If you're right that no Firefox plugin is available for my version of Adobe Acrobat, I'll have to give up using Firefox just after installing it! And I do like it!

Hyperlinks in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional won't work

I am using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional and MS Word 2003. When I convert Word documents to PDF, my hyperlinks won't work. In Word they work fine but when I click on them in a newly created PDF file, nothing happens.
I would be so grateful if someone could teach me how to fix this!

Thanks Bill! I have just managed to fix this 'missing hyperlinks' problem myself using Word settings. For everyone interested this is what I did:
- If your hyperlinks in Word doc are working fine but when you convert the file to PDF they won't work, you need to make sure that in Adobe PDFMaker Settings menu, in Application Settings the "Add links to Adobe PDF" box is SELECTED.
- Also, the conversion settings should be at High Quality.
Hope this helps everyone who is suffering because of the same problem!
The only problem I am still having is the darker, dirtier colours of my headlines and captions (dark purple instead of bright pink, dark red instead of normal red, etc.).

You cannot paste a hyperlink into the Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC for iOS app. But I think I understand what you want to happen.
When you tap the hyperlink (to a PDF document) in a email message or web page on your iPad, the PDF document will be opened it in Safari. You can use the iOS "Open In' feature to open it in Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC for iOS.
Please see the Safari section of the following FAQ document to see how to use "Open In".

How do you Make an Interactive Drop Down Menu in Adobe Acrobat Pro That Uses Hyperlinks?

Hi first off let me point out and apologise in advance for my ignorance and possibly my misuse of the correct terms, I'm new to this.
Anyway here goes, my best attempt to try and explain myself. Using Adobe Acrobat Pro I am trying to create a drop down menu that lists a set of documents. Once you click an item in the drop down menu it then opens up the corresponding document. So far example the Menu reads "Documents" and below it there is three options "Dogs" "Cats" "Hotdogs" when you click on "Hotdogs" you open up the document for hotdogs etc.
I have actually done it once before using Javascript and a combo box and I think basically you buried the links to documents in a series of bookmarks, the Javascript code then was basically a shortcut to activate those bookmarks.
So in short, could someone please tell me the code I would need to make this happen? I have looked extensively for the right forum post to see if my question has already been covered but I couldn't find anything and I possibly could have been using the wrong search terms.
Please ask me to clarify anything to help you understand what it is I'm asking.

Then you can just add your own bookmarks and they populate the pop-up menu automatically (including the hierarchy sub menu structure, you nest bookmarks within a main book mark.) which is a more efficient way than the one I used before.

Creating Back navigation in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard

I have a huge pdf - actually an e-book - of more than 350 pages. Each page contains a health therapy with certain words hyperlinked which go to an explanation in the glossary, which is towards the end of the document. This means that the reader could click off page 9 to find themselves in page 320, and then after they've got their explanation, they will want to return to their original page (9).
So how do I get them back easily?
On Acrobat 7, there was a way of doing this. And it is explained here in this tutorial:

The way to do it is found in Lesson 4, Section 3. It says:
* In the Actions pane select the "Execute a menu item" then click on the "Edit" button.
* The Menu Item dialog box presents itself. Select, from the menu, "View>Go To> Previous View.
My problem is that none of these navigation titles such as Actions, or Bookmarks Properties, or Execute a Menu Item appear in my Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
And I'm not even sure whether Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard can perform this navigation tool, or whether it is only available in Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional. I rang Technical Support, but they didn't know. So they referred me to Customer Services, but they didn't know. So Customer Services referred me to Sales, and they didn't know ...
So please can anyone here help? I would be very grateful.

The problem is that the form has to be filled out and then submitted via email, as you mentioned the email clients have trouble, I do not have a problem with the amount of submissions as I do not think I will ever hit the max on the form.
I have been doing some digging, can I use "Extend Forms Fill-In & Save In Adobe Reader" function on the form so the users can fill out the form and then save it? And if so are you also able to have the "submit Form" function with this or can it only be one or the other?

Can I use Adobe Acrobat X Pro to batch convert v1.6 PDF files to v1.3?

Recently I have posted up a project so the contractor can read the text in the PDF and create hyperlinks from these text. These PDFs are in format of engineering drawings.
He informed me that he was going to use PHP to read the PDF text as javascript cannot.
He then asked me to convert the version of our current PDF files from v1.6 to a lower version: v1.3, because php cannot work with higher PDF versions.
So I found this PDF version converter: [link removed by forum host] but it only converts one by one. I have like a few hundreds of them, so I really need something to do batch convert.
Could anyone help me out here? We (the small business I am working at) do not have Adobe Acrobat X Pro but will buy it if it can do the job.
Otherwise could anyone advise me of any other software that can do this?

Yes, Acrobat XI Pro can do this very easily. You can create an Action that runs the PDF Optimizer tool, which can convert the file content so it's compatible with any earlier version of PDF (as well as other things). Actions can then be run against a folder of files.

Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Random Crash (Access Violation)

hi all. first time poster. long time reader.
i have encountered an odd access violation problem - 'ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000005 - The instruction at "blah" referenced memory at "blah". The memory could not be "blah" - in 'acrobat.dll' recently with a customer who is experiencing seemingly random crashes with adobe acrobat 8 professional.
they are running the application off a citrix presnetation server 4.5 server (windows server 2003 R2 with service pack 2). each server is hosting about 8 or more users per server per day. every now and then, ie once a day, adobe acrobat crashes during use. there doesn't appear to be anything consistent in so far as the action the user is performing. they will be mid-way through marking up a document and it will just crash for one of them. all the others will continue working fine.
i have access to numerous crash dumps and nothing seems to really stand out...other than 'Acrobat_3000000!AVAcroALM_Destroy'. For example...

other than advising them to bring citrix presentation server 4.5 up to date (HRP2) i'm at a loss what to advise. citrix often have issues with seamless published applications when spread across multiple monitors (as in this case), hence, my reason to ask them to bring their software up to date. often the funtion called will be different - often times 'Acrobat.dll!PDDocCreateWordFinderEx', other times 'Acrobat.dll!PDDocAcquirePage' and there are others.
i can post more of the mini-dump if required. any - and ALL - assitance appreciated.

How to Open Adobe *pdf Files Hyperlink in New Tab

(Amongst all the extensions I have installed are Session Manager and Tabs Mix Plus, either of which might have bearing on this question. Session Manager is set to restore the tabs still open upon closing the previous session.)
When Firefox is closed, clicking a web hyperlink in a pdf file opened in Adobe Acrobat will open the browser, but that page will displace whatever was visible in the last session's focused tab (the one which would have focus if the browser was reopened normally).
If Firefox is already open and I'm using Acrobat externally the same happens -- the hyperlink' s page opens in the tab with focus, displacing whatever other webpage is displayed theree.
If by chance a pdf is open in a browser tab (FF is configured to open pdfs in a tab from *within* the browser) clicking a hyperlink in that pdf will open the new site in that current tab.
What do I set to get external Acrobat to open in a *new* tab when clicking a webpage hyperlink in a pdf?

Indexing function in Adobe Acrobat Pro

I am currently using the 30 day trial version of the above software, and am new to the Adobe product. I am able to import a file created in MS Publisher, but am now attempting to create an index file. I searched on the web and found this reference (presumably for a diferent version of the product, since I cannot see this menu item) :
"Add an index to a PDF
With the document open in Acrobat, choose Advanced > Document Processing > Manage Embedded Index.
In the Manage Embedded Index dialog box, click Embed Index.
Read the messages that appear, and click OK. "
There is no such menu path in the application that I am evaluating (Adobe Acrobat X), nor can I see it in the "Tools" pane. I am attempting to take a series if .pub files, import them into .pdf format, then create an index on all of these files (for use both in a soft copy search function, and a printable index for a hard copy format).
Subject to being able to perform this and some other functions, we are intending to purchase the product for our annual publications.

"Index" in context of PDFs/Acrobat means PDF page content indexed to support advanced search.
Not at all the traditional "index" found at the end of hard copy text.
Unlike MS Word, MS Publisher does not provide the traditional "Index" feature.
You might need to investigate if MS Word (or some third-party Index application) could interface with the Publisher files such that the traditional Index you desire could be built. An index, in a Word file, can be part of the created PDF(s) page content.
However, an MS Word generated index does not use Word's "Hyperlink" feature - so, no links within the Word file and thus no link(s) in the PDF.
To get to Acrobat X's "Index" feature:

Open Acrobat X's Tools pane. If a sub-pane titled "Document Processing" is present then expand it.
If not present then, on the right side of the gray ribbon just under Tools | Comment | Share click on the icon.
Select "Document Processing" from the associated menu.
In the expanded Document Processing sub-pane the bottom two entries are associated with the Index feature.
In context of having several PDFs from the PUB files a cataloged index might be more useful.

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI - I get different toolbar configurations when opening files.

I have set up my Adobe Acrobat Pro XI with a selection of toolbars that suits my needs. So far, so good. Recently, however, when I open some files, I get a different set of tool bars that resembles the default version.
I have tried opening the files several ways (e.g. menu, double-click in Explorer, etc.). It makes no difference what I do.
How do I force Acrobat to open the files using my set of toolbars instead of this truncated version? And why is this changing?
