I posted this same question on another forum (can't find).
Anyone know where the Vista patch for Acrobat Standard V. 8.1 is
located?

Try not to cross post, in forums please.

Text appearance in adobe acrobat (pro) files displays inconsistently unless you zoom in. Mainly 'i's and 'l's look bigger than they should.
    The pdfs print fine though.

Try doing a spotlight search for all files that start with AdobeFnt. They will be named AdobefntXX.lst, with the XX being some number. They will be scattered across the drive... After making sure that all Adobe applications are closed, trash all the adobefntxx.lst files, those with the 3 letter extension .lst.
Then, restart the system, and open the files in Acrobat again.
Otherwise, what happens in Safe boot? (Remember, Safe boot loads only a default set of fonts.) If they display fine there, the problem most likely is a font issue, one of the fonts that Adobe installed.
Check Adobe's web support page for troubleshooting Fonts.

Contact Adobe about the whole issue, it is after all, Adobe Acrobat... Adobe's contact number is 800 833 6687.

  • Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website

Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website. This only started happening after the latest update of Firefox was installed. Do you have a fix?

    Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").
    Good Luck :D

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 - file updates not installing on Win 7 Professional

How do I install MSP file updates to Adobe Acrobat after downloading them? I have just installed Acrobat 8.0 from the original installation CD on a new PC running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) and have downloaded the update to 8.1.0 to begin with, but on clicking it get the error messsage 'This patch could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package'. Updater is not working at all. It says it cannot find any updates. Even when I place the MSP file in the Updater folder to which it is supposed to download updates, it does not find updates. What is wrong? Why won't this patch install? Thank you! I really don't want to be stuck with 8.0.0 when I know that years of updates through to 8.3.1 are available, but for some reason they will not install intuitively.

    Hi ,
Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Win 7. Please find the mentioned Kb: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-acrobat-family-produ cts.html#main_System_requirements_for_Acrobat_8_Pro showing system requirement for installing Acrobat 8. As Acrobat version 8 is very old product so I would recommend you to purchase Acrobat11 which has more enhanced features and functionalities.

  • Why does my exported mp4 file look so bad when it is viewed in adobe acrobat pdf file?

I have embedded an mp4 (exported from premier pro cs6) video file into adobe acrobat and its not sharp viewing of my video anymore. It was a sharp video when viewed in both premier and the exported mp4 files, but once embedded in acrobat it looses sharpness, anyone know what the problem might be? Could my settings  in adobe acrobat be wrong? I would think the problem is in adobe acrobat since the exported mp4 video views crisp and clear before its embedded, any ideas to assure sharpness with my video after its embedded into the adobe acrobat pdf?
Hoping someone has an answer to this, I think my problem might lie within the adobe acrobat settings????
or maybe there is no way around and I need to expect this video not to look as crisp and clear after I embed it into acrobat.... as it is when viewing in premier pro, mp4, etc.????
Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.
Someone Im sure is taking theri exported premier files and embedding them to create pdf files? Would love to hear if anyone has encountered this issue.
Thanks so much in advance for any help offered.

    Hi Dave,
I just completed a test and comparison between the two PDF's,
compared the file as you suggested with the floating option and changing setting to actual size of the original premier pro / mp4 file size and
the old pdf that did not utilize the floating and file size option.
I do notice a slight difference. The PDF with the floating window with the match of the media clips original dimensions appears to be crisper.
I will be having the final pdf document set utilizing this method for the embeded mp4 movie and hope that the department doing this (next stage of this job) will agree that this is better to use your steps to embed all the video files into a pdf.
Thanks so much for your time.
Hope you had a happy holiday, and hope you have a very happy and healthy new year.
    Thanks, Amy

  • Handle the "No matches were found." when doing a search in Adobe Acrobat PDF file.

I have written an Excel spread sheet and using visual basic coding in my macro can open an as needed PDF file, search for a paragraph number as copied from the spread sheet, capture the page in the PDF file it is found on and paste the "pagefound" back into my Excel spreadsheet where desired. In some cases, however, Adobe Acrobat Professional XI reports back that "No matches were found."
Is there any way to handle the display of this message using Visual Basic Coding so that I can set my pagefound field to 1 or -1 to tell me that the paragraph number does NOT exist in the file?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the quick reply. However, I am NOT trying suppress the message.  I am tying to handle the message.  In other words, I want the message to appear when required BUT I want to be able to try and CAPTURE the fact so that I can specify the page as being non-existent (such as entering a -1 for the page).  Is there any way in Adobe or VBA coding in Excel to recognize that the message is displaying but not stopping it, just recognizing that it is appearing and handle it?  Thanks in advance.

  • Opening Adobe Acrobat PDF files

I can not get them to load in Safari anymore if I click something and it is an adobe acrobat file. Sometimes, I can then save them to downloads and open them, but sometimes I can't get them to save or open at all. I have Acrobat 7 and 8. I used to be able to until about a month ago.
Is there something I can do so I can open them again?
    Thanks much!

Inside Library, Internet Plug-Ins folder there is a plug-in that does the job
    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/AdobePDFviewer.plugin
If it's not there the simplest way is to enable it from the program preferences in internet section.
Could also be that the plug-in is broken. Move it to the trash and re enable it from the Acrobat preferences.

  • Adobe Acrobat losing file association when installing Adobe Reader X or XI (Using Cust. Wizard)

    Hello Adobe Forums,
I'm an IT professionnal in a large company, and we've been dealing with an issue using this software.
Using the "Adobe Customization Wizard 9", prior to version X and XI, the following option was available:
    Adobe Acrobat 9:
    Adobe Reader 9:
As you see, the customization wizard of both software allowed you to leave Adobe Acrobat as the default PDF handler.
Now, let's look at the Customization Wizard X
Adobe Acrobat X: (XI has the same options)
Adobe Reader X: (XI has the same options)
Now here, we can see that in Adobe Reader X, we only have "Make Reader the default" or "Installer will decide which will be the default"
I want to keep Adobe Acrobat as the default, so I choose "Installer will decide which product will be the default"
Guess which software becomes the default? Adobe Reader....
So what is happening here is that Adobe Customization Wizard X and XI will NOT let you keep Acrobat as the default, unless you execute a repair or reinstall Acrobat after installing Adobe Reader.
Adobe Reader X and XI forces itself to become the default handler, in every option scenario we can find. Adobe Customization Wizard 9 would let you choose to keep Acrobat as the handler. Why was this removed in X and XI?
This is very annoying and causing a lot of grief inside the company. Is there a solution for this?

    Sup guys
My colleague did some research and found the answer in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4457755#4457755
Use "LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=YES" in the command line when installing Adobe Reader to preserve PDF Ownership!

  • I have a Mac and I have downloaded the most recent Adobe Acrobat, but files will not open.  Any suggestions?

I have a Mac and downloaded the most recent Adobe Acrobat version, in order to open PDF's on a site I use.  They changed something recently and advised everyone to get up to date, which I did, but to no avail.  I keep getting a "waiting" message. I have used the Safari "develop" menu to simulate Internet Explorer, but with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Please wait...

  • Adobe Acrobat License file location?

    Hey,
This might sound wierd but bare with me.
    Background:
I installed latest version of Acrobat last night as I need a urgent size reduction of a pdf file (color sync utility did not reduce enough while maintaining good quality...). I was running it as Trial and I would like to remove it from my mac (running Meverick) now. However, I wonder where does the software save its license file on Mac?
    Here is the reason:
Lets say I decide to give it a serious trial of acrobat 6-month down the road before I pay adobe and I install the acrobat. Will the software check my harddrive to see if there is any license file? If so, it will be shown as trial expired and it will force me to buy before even to try...
    Hope this make sense.

Depending on the size of the photo and what size you are trying to make it.
If you are making the raw image smaller you won't loose any quality.
If you are trying to make the raw image larger is when you loose quality.
Normally you click on the image and then go to one of the corners and simply click and move the arrow toward the center of the image to make it smaller. Or move it away from the center to make it larger.
Next you go up to the menu bar at the top and choose FILE- SAVE AS and you click on the drop down and choose the format you want your image to be.
This sounds very complicated but it really isn't once you have done it.
It is true that Adobe Software in my mind is a little eaasier to work with but it's because I am more familiar with that software.

  • Error message when trying to convert powerpoint presentation to Adobe Acrobat PDF

When trying to create an Adobe Acrobat PDF file from Powerpoint (save as Adobe PDF from the Print menu), Automator gives the following error message: "an error occurred while saving the PDF file". Currently using version 14.4.6 of Microsoft Powerpoint for Mac, 11.0.09 Adobe Acrobat and OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on iMac. Also had the same problem previously with Mavericks and Mountain Lion. The problem seems to be the Apple Automator not working correctly with the Acrobat interface. I create Acrobat PDF docs perfectly well on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5) and am scared to update to the latest version of OS X in case that also affects the ability to create PDFs.
I have tried using Apple's own PDF creator, and doing this by first creating PS files then converting to PDF, however, many bugs appear in the files, and they are enormous - around 5x the size of Acrobat PDFs, so this is not an option. I have also tried troubleshooting with Adobe to no avail.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jane

    Hi star2111,
Please tell us a bit more about the error message that you're receiving, and where you're seeing it (in Adobe Reader, or the ExportPDF website?). It will also be helpful to know whether the error occur when just one file, or with any file that you try to convert.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • How can I add Adobe Acrobat into my Applications under content type so I can open up pdfs in a firefox window?

firefox won't open pdf's in a new window. I get a blank page. When viewing my application options, Adobe Acrobat is not listed under content type anywhere. I entered about:plugins in the address bar and it is showing that I do in fact have Adobe acrobat.
    File: nppdf32.dll
    Version: 7.0.8.218
Adobe Acrobat Plug-In Version 7.00 for Netscape
I also know I have it, because I have no problem using it in IE.
What can I do to get pdfs to open in a firefox window?

    Thanks. That worked.
I went to the profiles directory by putting %APPDATA% in the run window, then in explorer went to mozilla, firefox, profiles, and deleted the mimeTypes.rdf file after making sure firefox was closed. Opened firefox again and mailto links worked. Tried it on my friend's computer and it work on it as well.

  • Trouble downloading the free trial of Adobe Acrobat DC! "unable to load metafile"

Currently, I have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed. When I select "download", the Adobe Acrobat DC file is created in my downloads folder. However, when I choose to run the file, it first has me click continue if I'm aware that it will replace my current version of Adobe (so I click continue) but then the next thing pops up saying "unable to load metafile". Can't make it past this point. And I already downloaded Acrobat Reader DC in case that has anything to do with it. Please help!

    Hey levig97311307,
Could you please uninstall Adobe Reader DC from your machine and download its offline installer from here:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Now, try installing Adobe Acrobat DC again by running the executable file and check if the problem persists.
Also, let me know if you are connected to a proxy server, then you might need to refer the KB doc link listed for this error:
Error installing Reader | Proxy server environment
Let me know if this helps.

  • Why, after disabling all add-ons to correct a problem with Norton, am I unable to re-install Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396, even though all 7 applications in the "Containing Folder" are enabled?

mynortonaccount.com web page began coming up whenever I would go on line. Norton email support gave me steps to follow using my Firefox browser, in the safe mode, to disable all add-ons and reset user preferences to Firefox defaults.
Since then, although trying about 15 times, I have been unable to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396 so that it functions.
From the "Re-initializing the plugins database" article, and progressing to the "Open Containing Folder," but unable to select File and Exit menu, I did locate "Adobe Acrobat" version 10.0.0.396
which showed all seven applications "enabled." This problem is with Firefox only. Internet Explorer functions normally.

If you want adobe acrobat pdf files to open in firefox you need an acrobat plugin, have you checked that is installed and enabled.
