Adobe Acrobat Help

The Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 Help menu item does nothing. What and where are the help files supposed to be located? The help resources seem to be present for InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc., but not for Acrobat or Flash.

It works for me. It launches Adobe Help Viewer 1.0, and displays the help files. You didn't try to delete Adobe Help View 1.0, did you? The rest of the Creative Suite (released several months later) use Adobe Help Viewer 1.1.
You might trying Help > Repair Acrobat Installation. Otherwise, you might want to uninstall, then reinstall the application.

How does one configure an Adobe Acrobat executable other than the one included with the Test Stand CD to read the help files. I want to use Acrobat 4.0, not Acroread 4.05. Once installed, Test Stand tries to launch Notepad to view the help files.
    Thanks,
    Roy

Did you install Adobe Acrobat 4.0 before or after installing TestStand?
If you already have an acroread installed before installing TestStand, it should not prompt you to install the 4.05 version. This is due to the fact that you cannot install one version of acroread over another, they need to be properly uninstalled and then the desired version installed afterward (this is an adobe acrobat reader installer limitation). Thus, if you have a version of acroread installed already, and you want to use the TestStand installer version of acroread, you should uninstall your current version of acroread, reboot the pc, then begin the TestStand installation (in which it should now prompt you to do an install or acroread, since you have none).
If you do not have ac
roread installed prior to TestStand, you will get a prompt to install 4.05 just as I indicated above. You can either install this or not, but you will have to install your own version later in order to view the files, properly uninstalling 4.05 if you do decide to install another version afterward.
The main problems I would look for is having two installations at a time on the machine. If this has happened try uninstalling all versions of Acrobat/reader, and reinstall the version you want as the only version. TestStand performs a simple system execute on the help .pdf file when selected from the menu, it is the file associations setup in Windows for Adobe Acrobat that cause the program to be loaded when ever an open command is done on files with the .pdf extension. If anything you might go into the Windows file extensions settings on your machine and make sure that they point at the proper executable.

  • Can't access Adobe Acrobat Help

In Acrobat 8 Professional, I want info on changing text color in a line of text. I go to the Help menu and when I click the cursor changes to a clock icon for about 1 second, then the drop down appears. I go to Complete Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Help...  and nothing appears. I trashed the preferences plist but no change.

Try the following click on the Touch up text tool then highlight items you want to change.
Next control click or right click on the highlighted items to bring up context menu . Choose properties.
No choose fonts and there should be an area to change color.

  • I have a PDF file (employee application) that I need to print.....in Yahoo mail.  The document displays fully on the screen but when I print it, it only prints the left half of the document.  Can Adobe Acrobat help get this printed?

Any suggestions on how to print this document?

If you are printing to physical printer from Safari : Use Reader print button from Reader toolbar
If you want to save a PDF from Safari to your local : Use Reader Save button from the Reader toolbar.
PS: if you have PDF in read mode the  hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and the floating Reader toolbar will appear.
Please let me know if this solves your issue.

  • PDF Comparing in Adobe Acrobat

Does Adobe Acrobat helps in comparing pdf files with image and text at same time. Not like other tools like Araxis Merge which have Text view and Image view and are not able to compare the file in one view.
Also, can it do a three way comparing and if possible merge.
and whether it can run from command line?
If any one can provide the answer. It's real urgent.
As far as I know it is able to compare pdfs, but I do not know the details.

    Thanx Dave,
If you can give some idea as of any feature in any adobe tool which can do the three way comparison and run from command line.
Also Dave, if you can suggest for any other tool in the market other than adobe which can do this all things as I mentioned above.

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro crashes at start up: Runtime Error-please help

I have Adobe CS4 installed on my Windows 7 PC. In addition, I have Adobe Reader XI and InDesign 6 installed. If I remember correctly, after I installed Adobe Reader XI, I uninstalled the version of the Reader which came with CS4.
So here’s my problem: When I try to download a PDF that has been sent to me in an email or open one that already exists on my computer, this happens:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C…
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
When I click OK, I get this:
Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has stopped working.
If I try to Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro from my start menu, the same thing happens.
This makes no sense to me because
I don’t have the knowledge to figure this out. I have no idea what Runtime is.
Prior to a computer meltdown a couple of months ago and a complete reinstallation of everything, these very same programs all worked just fine.
I don’t understand why, when I try to open an emailed PDF, they don’t automatically open in Adobe Reader XI rather than Adobe Acrobat. Isn’t the general idea that people be able to open and view sent PDFs which they have been sent, which is what the Reader is for, and not usually edit them, which is what Adobe Acrobat is for?
If, instead of trying to open the emailed PDFs, I save them to my computer, I can launch Adobe Reader XI and open them from within that program without any problem. That’s OK if I just need to view the PDF, but I need to be able to edit PDFs too, so I must get Adobe Acrobat 9.0 to work.
Would reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro help? Is there a way to reinstall that program only from the installation disks or would have to reinstall CS4 entirely?
I cannot open Adobe Acrobat 9.0 at all, so any solutions which must be done with the program open are not possible.
I would really appreciate some help.

    SOLVED!
Resetting Internet Explorer didn't work, Reinstalling Acrobat 9.0 Pro didn't work, but changing a registry key did.
Here's where I found the solution:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error opening PDF files - Microsoft Community
Here is the relevant post, but before you try it, read my note below:
    Hi,
This is known issue with Acrobat for several versions now, Adobe's current fix is just to update their software: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404597.html
The problem is with the application data being misdirected.
"The affected user has a redirected Application Data folder and as a result the network path containing the Application Data uses a UNC path that begins with \\. This UNC path causes Acrobat 9.0 or Adobe Reader 9.0 to incorrectly parse the Application Data path and give the error message."
A potential Solution would be to go into the registry. Left Click type "regedit" and right click and run the program with "run as administrator". Go to Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders and make sure see where "AppData" is pointing. If it is pointing to "%UserProfile%/Application Data" change it to point to "%UserProfile%/AppData/Roaming".
BUT, be careful about one thing: This poster seems to have accidentally used forward slashes when he should have use back slashes. Look at the very last line of his post where he advises "If it is pointing to "%UserProfile%/Application Data" change it to point to "%UserProfile%/AppData/Roaming". You'll find, or at least I did, that this key has a back slash, not a forward slash, so changing what I found: "%UserProfile%\Application Data" to "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming" worked and now Acrobat 9.0 works fine.

  • No longer able to download pdfs, tried all the stuff on the help page, is this a result of the new version of Adobe Acrobat 10.1.3?

Previously, I had no difficulty w/ downloading pdfs. Now all I get is a blank Firefox screen, with nothing else happening--no downloads window opening up like before, or anything else. I recently upgraded my Adobe Acrobat to 10.1.3, and I wonder whether this is related to that? Does FireFox not find the new Acrobat?
I've gone through the things on the Firefox help page like changing download folder and renaming the whatever folder it was from what: rdp? to rdp.old. Does not effect problem.

Thanks Matt. I finally seem to have got it working better now with having gone into the Preferences, Applications, and selected "USE Adobe Acrobat Pro (default)" It had somehow gotten switched to "USE Adobe Acrobat NPAPI plugin..."
I admit to not knowing what I'm doing, but this switch seems to have made it workable again.
    Hope this maybe helps others...

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 causes MS Office 2003 to freeze & mouse to malfunction - HELP!

After installing Acrobat 9.0 Professional on a 64-bit Windows Vista computer running Microsoft Office 2003 the following issues arose (note these issues were solved be uninstalling Acrobat). Does anyone have a fix?
    1. Microsoft Internet Explorer stopped working - program would not launch.
    2. Mouse click disabled - pointer worked but both click buttons disabled.
    3. The following dialogue box opens in word when closing Word - Acrobat was not in use at the time, but it was installed on the machine:
"Do you want to save the changes to PDFMCustom?"
The Microsoft Office Program "Word 2003" would freeze at this point.
We need to run Acrobat on this machine - and unfortunately, we need Explorer and Office too, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I can  suggest to  try  this  one:
Found that the file, PDFMOutlook.dll, is the culprit for many of your longstanding woes with the toolbar. A common way to eliminate the toolbar is to unregister the dll. This can be done by going to Start > Run and typing the following:
                  regsvr32 /u “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Mail\Outlook\PDFMOutlook.dll”
While this indeed does get rid of the toolbar, it’s not a recommended method as it basically just keeps the file from being loaded when you start Outlook. To  return  the PDFMaker on the  toolbar  I’ll recommend that you re-register the dll file. To  re-register the file, simply go to Start > Run and type the following:
                  regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Mail\Outlook\PDFMOutlook.dll”

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 crashing in Windows Vista - Need help

    Hi,
I have installed Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 in my system which has OS Windows Vista with SP1 and everytime I open a pdf using my newly installed adobe acrobat it crashes.
The general trend it after 10 seconds from opening that pdf file, it just automatically closes itself. I checked the system process and didn't see the adobe process running after it closed itself. So I feel it just crashes for some unknown reason.
I have 1440 X 900 resolution. Don't know if that can be a problem, but I have tried reducing the resolution too but with no help.
Can anyone help me solve this problem.

Unfortuntely this isn't a forum for Acrobat so no one will be able to answer your question.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Text Box Enter Space is Removed -- Help

Got a new computer at work with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and it is taking some getting use to (came from Acrobat 7 Professional).
I need some help with  the text box tool.  When I create a text box and use the enter key and click out of the text box the space is removed where I hit enter.  I googled around and if I use cntrl and then hit enter the space will stay there.  How do I get around this so I do not have to hold cntrl everytime.  Plus if I go back into that text box and add another space it removes the space from before so I would have to add the spaces in again.  I hope this is a setting I have messed up.  It is quite annoying and hopefully someone can help me out.
I am on Windows 7 Professional if it matters.

I've reported this as a bug a number of times since Acrobat 9 was released and so far they have refused to fix it in Acrobat 9/10/11. I had never heard of the Ctrl+Enter workaround, so thanks for that.

I am running Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP and recently I started getting messages that say "Please wait while document is prepared for reading" and then AA9 freezes and eventually shuts down.  I did 2 repair installations that did not resolve the problem.  I need help if anyone knows how to fix this.  Thanks.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document. Can anyone help?

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document, instead I open it with Adobe Reader X to be able to print.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Edna,
It sounds like Adobe Reader X is your default PDF file handler. Launch Adobe Reader X.  Choose Edit > Preferences > General.  Click the 'Select Default PDF Handler' button at the bottom and choose Acrobat 9 from the drop-down menu.  Click Apply, then OK.
Restart your computer.  Acrobat 9 should now be your default PDF file handler again.
