Adobe Acrobat plugin creates a fake entry at Windows' taskbar

Hello. Since a few Firefox and Acrobat Reader versions back (not sure which ones), whenever I open a PDF file in Firefox, Adobe's plugin creates a bogus window at my Windows' taskbar. It has the default unknown application icon, with no title, and it's useless clicking or right-clicking it, as not even a menu shows up. In fact, it is nothing, but it is annoying.
I am sure it is Adobe's plugin because it doesn't happen neither when I open a PDF with Firefox's built-in reader nor when I have Adobe's plugin enabled and set but not fired yet. Also, the fake window entry goes away a while after I close the last PDF tab.
I have uploaded a screenshot here: http://s2.postimg.org/rms7ywuvt/screenshot_firefox_adobe_acrobat_reader_plugin_f.jpg

It's hard to know what is happening here.
As a test of how Firefox+Acrobat works in an uncustomized Firefox, could you create a new Firefox profile and try that PDF again. In addition to bypassing current add-ons and custom settings, it should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Close Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]. Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog. Two tips:
* When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested; if you prefer to use a different folder, to avoid data loss, do not choose any existing folder.
* I recommend backing up all profiles before using the delete function, so you can recover in case the wrong one gets deleted.
Does the plugin work any better in the new profile?

  • Adobe Acrobat Plugin in Firefox 29.0 for Windows 8.0 does not print documents. Why?

I opened a document in Adobe Acrobat plugin version 11.0.6.70 in Firefox 29.0 for Windows 8.0 and attempted to print the document, but all I got was a blank sheet of paper. So I saved the Adobe document to my hard drive. I then opened that Adobe document in Adobe outside of Firefox. Adobe printed that document just fine. Firefox was just updated to version 29.0 a day or two ago. Prior to that I did not have any problems printing Adobe documents from within Firefox. Why did the Adobe 11.0.6.70 plugin not print the document from within Firefox 29.0?

hello, you might not actoally print with the acrobat plugin but with the built-in firefox pdf viewer which unfortunately currently has this blank page printing bug - this is investigated by our developers. in the meantime you could use a third-party pdf plugin that you can enable in the firefox ''options > applications'' - scroll down and define the default action for the '''portable document format (pdf)'''.

  • Outdated Adobe Acrobat plugin

    Hello,
since today, before opening a pdf document, I reach a dark page where I have to click to activate the Adobe Acrobat plugin. I have Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.5 and I knew it was outdated because I check regularly the "check plugins" page, it used to be simply paired with the yellow button and that was all. Today I get black screens whenever I try to view pdf in Firefox and I have to click on them to view pdf. From the Add-ons/Plugins control panel I know see a warning red writing above the plugin entry stating "Adobe Acrobat is known to be vulnerable and should be updated".
I cannot seem to update because I have Adobe Acrobat X pro, and I don't want to install the reader or purchase the newest version of the pro suite. My Pc runs with WIndows XP SP3 and is quite old, all other plugins are up to date, including Java and I don't want to use the new FF built-in pdf reader.
Any suggestion as how to disable the warnings and vulnerability screens or to update the plugin without installing Adobe Reader? Thank you

The solution did not work for me. It had me download an msp file, but I do not have that software on my computer and do not want to download it. The description of msp on the internet sounds like downloading it will give more access to my computer than I want to give. I would appreciate clarification if I am being overly protective, but Mozilla Firefox, can you fix the problem so we can update from your button? Kindest regards, Robin

  • FireFox 10.0.7 w/Adobe Acrobat plugin 10.1.4.38 issue

    Hello, everyone.
Our internal network systems have two browsers - IE8 and FireFox10.  The IE8 browsers have security settings so high that the Acrobat plugin for it isn't even installed.  When viewing a PDF in IE8, the browser relinquishes viewing to Adobe Reader.  This presents a problem, as we have a Solr Collection indexing over 1,000 PDFs making them searchable, and when opened in a browser the PDF highlights and keeps track of where the keywords are located within.
So we fall back to FireFox for viewing PDFs.  The search function works most adequately.
But FireFox10 with Adobe Acrobat plugin 10.1.4.38 has another issue: hyperlinks.
The PDFs were all created in Word 2007 using the Adobe PDFMaker plugin for Office, "Save As PDF", not "Print to PDF".  While the Reader will automatically parse an FQDN, making it a live, clickable link that will open a browser to said FQDN, FireFox will NOT.  The FQDN is blue and underscored, so it looks like a link, but clicking it produces nothing.
We discovered (with some experimenting) that if a FQDN in Word is highlighted, copied, right-clicked and "Hyperlink" selected, then pasted into the proper field, then the link will work in FireFox.
As I stated, we have over 1,000 of these PDFs, and we don't have the resources to edit every single one looking for FQDN text and performing the above operation.
So, I guess what I asking is: will a future Acrobat plugin for FireFox automatically parse FQDN links?
What options do I have in order to make the links work in FireFox, until then?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

This is an on going issue that been going on for close to 15 years between Microsoft and Adobe.
Try Opening Fire Fox and Upgrading to the latest version.
Next upgrade to at least Acrobat . I've already upgraded to XI
Maybe after 15 years the issue has been taken care of.
dobe claims (for 15 years That Mac Office doesn't have the proper Hooks for hot Links).
The odd thing is that Office11 is a Direct port of Office2007/2010 with code changes only for the Mac interface.
If it's still an issue then its an Issue that Adobe is lazy and don't want to fix it.
If your using a Mac you can open that same PDF on a PC and the links work.

  • Two Adobe Acrobat Plugins In Firefox ... Want to Remove Outdated Plugin

Creative Cloud Customer with all Adobe software current
    Windows 8 Pro 64 bit
    Adobe Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.2
    Firefox 19.0.1
In looking at my Plugins, I notice that I have two Adobe Acrobat, one 11.0.0.379 and the other 11.0.2.0. The last one seems to match my Adobe Acrobat Pro version number. I assume the 11.0.0.379 is outdated?
If I am correct in my assumption, how do I remove the the outdated plugin? Please be precise and detailed as I am still learning Windows 8. In the picture below, I have circled the plugin that I want to remove.
I look forward to your assistance.

Okay, well I just an interesting experience.
    Here's what happened:
Deleted oldest program without remembering to deactivate first.
After I uninstalled, I noticed that the program listings in the Control Panel were blank. That is, both the old and new versions were gone.
In Firefox, the first entry of Adobe Acrobat 11.0.2.0 was gone, but the other listing of Adobe Acrobat 11.0.0.379 remained
Thinking that I erred in not deactivating first, I used Adobe's Chat to reset my counter. The nice man asked me for my email and then my order number for Creative Cloud. After I logged into my Adobe account to retrieve the information, he promptly told me that he couldn't help me and that I needed to call back on Monday using a 1-800 number. I am puzzled why we bothered with the dance of email addresses and order numbers.
Throwing caution to the wind, I decided to try to install Adobe Acrobat from my Creative Cloud account. The worst that happen is that it will fail to load.
I successfully loaded Adobe Acrobat without difficulty. When I viewed the installed programs in the Control Panel, I saw that I had an outdated versions. See picture below.
Intuitively, I would have expected programs downloaded from the cloud to be current.  So I went Help | Check for Updates
I installed the updates. See picture below for Control Panel shot.
Now, going back to Firefox, I am exactly at the starting point.
In summary, the "older" version appears to stay regardless of whether Adobe Acrobat is installed or not. Perhaps it is attached to Adobe Reader XI. Or, perhaps, it's just there. Installing Adobe Acrobat XI Pro seems to add two programs to the list in the Control Panel. And it seems to have two Adobe Acrobat plugins in Firefox.
I will call Adobe on Monday with regard to the Deactivate Issue. I have a hunch that it isn't not an issue. They might be able to tell that I uninstalled and reinstalled on the same computer.
    That's it for now.

  • Adobe Acrobat Plugin gHINSTANCE is undefined

Adobe Acrobat Plugin gHINSTANCE is undefined
    Hi,
Does anyone know the correct way to include “PIMain.c” in to a project so that gHINSTANCE is available. I’ve tried using GetModuleHandleA(NULL) but this doesn’t seem to give the correct result.
If I try using #include “PIMain.c” on compilation I get a load of errors stating that things are already defined e.g. “RestorePlugInFrame already defined”.
I’m trying to use gHINSTANCE to create an AVIcon object.
Is there another way to access this object?
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Regards
    Stuart

There are many, many things to get right in building a plug-in and making a project. If you get them wrong, some will give errors, some will fail later, and many will make a plug-in that just doesn't load.
So always start with an existing sample project, perhaps the STARTER project, and add your code rather than trying to reinvent this particular wheel.
(If you are trying to use the plug-in API in your own EXE, give up, you cannot).

  • Adobe Acrobat plugin keep crashing

Every time I try to view a pdf in Firefox, I get an error message stating that the Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed.

'''mtnharry''' (or anyone else with this problem) maybe this will help:
===The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed===
You can get this error when both Adobe Reader X and Adobe Acrobat are installed. You can resolve the problem as follows:
#Open the Adobe Reader X application
    #Go to''' Edit''' -> '''Preferences'''
#Under Categories (on the left) select '''General''' (near the top)
#Click the button '''Select Default PDF Handler''' (at the bottom)
#Under "Select Adobe Product", open the drop-down menu and click "Adobe Reader X".
#Click "Apply", then close Adobe Reader X

  • Why does the Adobe Acrobat plugin crash everytime I open a PDF?

I am currently running the Firefox 11.0, which is the most up-to-date version as of this writing. Every time I open a PDF file, it says that "Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, which came as part of my school's standard software package. The Mozilla website says I have the most up-to-date version of the Acrobat plugin.
P.S. I recently updated my version of Adobe Reader X to try to fix the problem, but that didn't work. I'm not entirely sure how Reader is related to Acrobat, so I don't know if that would affect my ability to read PDFs in Firefox.

    hi WDWPhishFan,
Have you looked at [[The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed]] and [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]]?
The first article has a lot of good troubleshooting steps that might help. The second article actual lists a couple of plugins that can be used for opening PDF files. I'd give both of them a try just in case.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • PDF Searching using Adobe Acrobat Plugin Find Function in Safari

I currently incorporate the Adobe Acrobat Pro (9.1.2) plugin for viewing PDF files. I like using Safari for viewing PDFs within a web browser, but I find Safari's built-in Find function (open apple-F) inferior to Acrobat's ability to search for text within the PDF, as it never finds the words that I search for.
My question is: Is there an efficient built-in shortcut within Safari to search text within a PDF using Adobe Acrobat's plugin Find function? If not, is there a relatively easy, keyboard-based shortcut that could be made to direct the Find function to the Adobe Acrobat plugin Find function within Safari?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Figured it out.  It had nothing to do with the software levels of Safari or Adobe Acrobat.  Here's the fix:
    Open Finder/Applications
    Search "Internet Plug-Ins"
Move any Adobe plug-ins to the trash
    Quit Safari
    Launch Safari
Your pdf document should now render in Print Preview and print properly.

  • I have updated my Adobe Acrobat plugin three times today but the firefox plugin check says it is out of date, a problem as I repeatedly encounter "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed" when I attempt to download pdfs.

I am attempting to download pdf's from a library search on JSTOR. I can view the pdf but cannot download them as they say "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". I have been to the firefox plugin check and have updated Adobe Acrobat three times in the last hour, but it still says my plugin is not up to date. This leads me to believe that this may be the source of my crash errors.
I updated Adobe Flash from the same firefox plugin check page and after one try it now says I am up to date, so my system is obviously accepting these updates.
    Help!!!!!

The following solution is useful for people who have the full version of Acrobat 9, but are getting the error message "the Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". You probably want the features in the full version of Acrobat, but still need to be able to open PDF files from your Firefox browser.
Go to Tools > Options > Applications. Scroll down and change all of the Adobe Acrobat files to open with Acrobat 9 (or whatever version you have) instead of "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)". This may not be as handy as having it use Acrobat inside the Firefox browser, but it will still let you open PDF files without having to uninstall the full version of Acrobat. Hope this helps.

  • Acrobat XI Creates Corrupt Registry Entry

I need help with what to do, if anything, with what appears to be the addition of a corrupt registry entry after installing Adobe Acrobat XI.
The corrupt entry was added to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The entry that was added only contains the following four characters:  @=””
The entry is not visible when using regedit. I just happen to see it when I exported Run to a .reg file and looked at with notepad.

    Kglad,
Not that I know of at this time.
My concern is that this entry may cause problems if other entries are added to this location, which is quite possible, or when and if I try to remove Acrobat XI.
My hunch is that this entry was supposed to be Acorbat-sl.exe but I don’t know.

  • Adobe Acrobat plugin crashes every time

Any time I try to open any pdf, it will open for a millisecond and then the Adobe Acrobat plugin will crash. I view pdfs on the web all day long at my job so this is a big issue. I just started using Firefox about 1 week ago after an absence and noticed the pdf problem immediately when I updated to 9.0.1 yesterday.

I did find a "work around" several days back. I had Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader on my machine. I found if I uninstalled Acrobat Reader, that fixed the problem.
I will check out the 2 links you posted, reinstall Acrobat Reader, see what happens and post...
