Adobe Acrobat Prewiew (miniature) under 64 - bit client

Hi there...
We use Adobe Creative Suite CS3 and now we found out that since the change from a 32 bit XP to 64 bit XP our users not have a chance to see the small versions of the PDF Files in the folders.
IS that a normal 64 bit "feature" or is there something we can change that they are able to see them.
Thanx
Heady

Hi Matt,
Acrobat 7 PDFMaker will not work on Windows 7 64 bit as it's not tested and there might be compatibility issues.

If I DRAG the icon for my Adobe Acrobat file (made with AA ver.8.1 on OS 10.6.7) to printer icon (printer is a CANON PIXMA MX300 I bought at Apple store), I print just fine but if I try to print from within Adobe Acrobat, I get an error message in the Apple printer queu every time. I had no problem on OS 10.5.8 with the same versions of software applications. Anybody know what the h is going on here? I've restarted printer, computer, changed the ink cartridges, run software updaters, run DU... ??????????

Consider running software updaters again as the current version of Snow Leopard is 10.6.8 and Adobe Acrobat is 8.1.5 (AA Pro is 8.3.1). If you use Software Update to update to OS 10.6.8, afterwards run check software update again to see if it offers updated drivers for Canon printers. If not, try the Canon website.

  • Is ADOBE Acrobat XI (11) 64 bit ready ?

Trick question.   Had a user report of slow response time when printing documents.  He was using Adobe 9.  I noticed the WOW32 program using most of the CPU.  The persons PC was Windows 7 64 bit.  I assumed Adobe was not 64 bit compliant.  We ordered Adobe XI (11) which said it was 64 bit compliant.  Just discovered it doesn't have a 64 bit install.
Does the new version of ACROBAT PRO still use the WOW stuff for its activities.  Or is it smart enough to run in 64 bit and not require 32 bit print drivers, etc.

Yes, it is 64 bit compliant. It is not a 64 bit app, but it doesn't have to be: that's just a marketing myth. If it wasn't WOW32 using the CPU it would be something else: the work still needs to be done somewhere.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI vs X Accessibility Checks

I have a Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. My client has Adobe Acrobat Pro X. In XI, my documents are completely accessible, but when they run the accessibility check in X they show errors. The client will send documents back to us as non-compliant due to these errors and ask that we fix them. Unfortunately, we are not able to see these errors on our side, so it is very hard to try and fix. Is there a way to run the X accessibility check in XI, so that we make the document as compliant as our client is expecting?

When you run the Accessibility Check in XI, are all of the Checking Options selected, other than "Tables must have a summary"? What specific errors are being flagged in X but not XI? (it might be helpful to ask your client to create and send an Accessibility Report)
Another approach would be for you and your client to agree to standardize on one of the free PDF Accessibility Checkers from the Swiss foundation Access for All: PAC 1.3 for WCAG 2.0 compliance or PAC 2 for ISO 14289 (PDF/UA - Universal Accessibility) http://www.access-for-all.ch/en/pdf-lab/pdf-accessibility-checker-pac/downloading-pac.html.
Both PAC checkers are much more thorough than the checkers built into Acrobat X and XI.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard - 22002418 - Lost Media

Need to install Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0today and client has lost the media. Is there a download to just the media? If not, what is the method to obtain new media?
    Thank you.

If the media was registered or at least have the key, then you may be able to download it. If not, then your client probably needs to look for the $$ to buy a new copy. As Bernd says, customer support is your route.
I guess that if the client has the key code, then possibly the demo version can be upgraded, don't know.

  • Adobe Acrobat Activation Issue

    Scenario:
PC 1 and PC 2 have been image from PC A and PC B. A and B both contained Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro under specific license numbers. Thus, I uninstalled Adobe from 1 and 2. On 1, when uninstalling Adobe, I was prompted to deactivate the software. However, this requires internet connectivity of which I don't have due to facility constraints. Thus, I skipped this step and continued unstalling. The process completed then I reinstalled the software. I was prompted to accept the User Agreement, however, the program started directly without asking me to activate the software. On 2, I uninstalled the software, but I was never prompted for deactivation. When I reinstalled, the software installed perfectly. I started it up, accepted the User Agreement, and it prompted me for activation. Why does one not prompt me for activation and the other one doesn't. How can I fix this? Can I fully remove Adobe so that this deactivation process doesn't hinder me from activating my software under the current license?

Did you do a Custom installation of CS3 (not attempting to install Acrobat over Acrobat 3D?)? If not then it might have made a mess the Acrobat activation component. I think you're probably on the correct path in doing the uninstall. You may want to use the cleanup script. Then reinstall Acrobat 3D and do a custom installation of CS3.

  • Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using

We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer.  Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
    OS: Windows 2000 SP4
    Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
    Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
    PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
    Steps to produce the problem.
    1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
    2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
    3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
    5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)".  The icons will be shown.
    6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
    7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
    8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
    9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
    10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
    11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
    12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
    13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
    14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools.

That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • Cannot search PDF file contents - Windows 7 32 bit - Adobe Acrobat X

    Hello,
If this is in the wrong forum please move it.
I work in an enterprise environment and our systems are having trouble searching file contents in Windows Explorer using Acrobat X and Windows 7 32 bit. The files are on a mapped network location.
After removing all adobe products from a test machine and reinstalling the Acrobat 10.0.0 software the windows explorer search function seems to work locally but once I install Acrobat 10.1.anything update, it will fail. It never worked on a networked location.
I have also tried installing Adobe Acrobat 11.0.00 after removing 10.0. Then I made sure my indexing settings were setup to index files and contents and made sure the .pdf extension was selected under file types.
I then created a mapped drive to the network location, and setup my indexing to the folder on that network drive. I was able to do this by installing this Microsoft Add-in that allows use of UNC paths in the indexing.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=3383
Once I set this up, I rebuilt my index and restarted the computer. This is where it gets weird. I can now search the contents of PDF files in this indexed network location, but only by one letter. Searching "c type:pdf" will produce results, but "co type:pdf" will not. I know for sure some of the documents have the work Comment in there so this should should up.
Does anyone have experience getting this to work correctly with the latest versions of Adobe Acrobat X or XI and Windows 7 32 bit? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I will never understand why but in the end I rebuilt my 32 bit dell laptop from scratch and the pdf files can now be searched.
I cannot search them on a mapped drive as I was able to with Windows XP because now they must be indexed and windows 7 will seems not to allow a mapped location to be indexed which must be done to make the pdf files searchable so I have had to move the files to the local drive.
My Windows 7 64 bit systems can search the mapped drives just fine without needing to be indexed. Again I will never understand why this works and the 32 bit machine does not.

  • Needs help sorting out a New clients Adobe Acrobat licenses.

I have a new client. They have 4 Licenses for Adobe Acrobat.
    2 for Acrobate 8 Pro
    1 for Acrobat 8 standard.
    1 for Acrobat 9 Pro.
I replaced the machine that had Acrobat 9 Pro on it.
The old machine would not let me deactivate the license and the new machine accepted the license but would not activate it.
The company never documented their licenses. They think that at least the Acrobat 9 Pro was a downloaded license.
Talked to Support and they were no help. I needed to verify the email address that it was registered under. They told me it was a hotmail address which would of been right but since then they got their own Domain and Email and don't use HotMail any more so I can not get what they used for Hotmail and who's account it was registeed with.
All I want is to figure out the licenses that that this company bought and is entitled too under what terms and find out if they can be upgraded to Acrobat 11, but I don't know where to start with Adobe on this or if they will be cooperative. They have not been so far.
Any thouights or tips on where to start.
All I have is the srial number and Version for 4 installs of Acrobat. Can I work with that or is the company out of luck and have to buy all over again. If I do have top start over I will say that I will not be buying Acrobat from adobe but I will go to another PDF program. So Adobe can be cooprative and work with me and get me to pay and upgrade tthe license they have or I go somewhere else. I hope Adobe wants the money.
    Any thoughts?

I have just re-scanned my document unclicking the "PDA/A Compliant" box and "viola" everything appears to working just "wonderfully"!
Thank you so much for ending two days of total frustration!
I also talked with an instructor who taught the Adobe 8 class & he didn't have a clue as to what was wrong.
Again, I thank you very, very much!

  • How do you grey out/disable fields under a radio button if another radio button is selected in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

How do you grey out/disable fields under a radio button if another radio button is selected in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?
I’m creating a form where the user has three options to make a payment.
    1. charge to my credit card
    2. charge associated costs to bank account
    3. By cheque or money order
My Problem is, under each option, there are required fields that has to be filled out. So if the user picks the first option, charge to my credit card, they would fill out the required fields (credit card number, expiration date etc.). But when they click submit button to submit the form, it won’t let them, because there are required fields under the second option. Also, I have the radio buttons for the three options setup so that if the user holds the shift key and clicks a radio button, it unchecks it. So what I'm trying to do is this: If the user selects the radio button for option 1, the other two options are greyed out/disabled. And if the user holds down the shift key and clicks radio button for option one again, it unchecks the radio button and the other two options are available again. Is there a way to grey out or disable the two other payment options when the other one is picked. I’m assuming I will have to use javascript, but what would the coding be and which field do I write it under?
    Thanks in advance guys

You will have to use custom JavaScript to access the various properties of the field object.
The radio button group has a value. When no button is selected that value is "Off". When an individual button has been selected the value for the group will be the option or export value for that individual button.
Once you have determined the button selected, then you will know the form fields that need to be made required. You use JavaScript to access those fields and change the "read only" property to false, and set the "required" property to true. For the fields associated with the other options, those fields should be reset, made read only, and have the "required" property set to false.
    Disabling (graying-out) Form Fields
    >> Also, I have the radio buttons for the three options setup so that if the user holds the shift key and clicks a radio button, it unchecks it.
Radio button in a PDF do not work that way. Only check boxes can be unchecked by clicking on one that has been checked.
If you plan the coding for the Mouse UP action to test for all possible options and code for each of those options you should have what you want.
If you want actual code you need to provide a lot more details.
It is even possible to perform some credit card and bank routing number validations with JavaScript and some check digit formulas.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro text box not printing and is hidden under box highlight.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.13.  I am completing a form with text box throughout the document. I can no get the text box to printing and the text is hidden under box highlight.  I have tried printing with the print feature 'Comments & Forms/ Document and Markups' with no luck.

It's doing that because you have field highlighting enabled. YOu can either turn it off or make the field read-only (if it's only used for display and not entry).

    Hi Jorg ,
Are you trying to reduce the file size with the "Reduced size PDF" in the save as other option.
Give it a try if you haven't done it prior.
Open that PDF>File>Save as Other>Reduced size PDF.
