Adobe Acrobat - rename form field

I'm a newbie to Automator but it seems like this should work. I need to automate the renaming of lots and lots of fields in a form. I started a workflow that opens the PDF. Then I used the "Record" button in Automator to watch me click on the Form menu bar item in Acrobat and select "Edit Form in Acrobat". I ran the workflow up to this point and it works fine. Then I use the "Record" button again and it watches me select a field in the form by clicking it. Again no problems. Finally I attempt to use the "Record" button to rename the field. It breaks every time. I try "Control Clicking" the field and selecting "Properties" from the contextual menu. Then renaming the field and clicking the close button. It breaks. I try selecting the Field and then clicking the Form menu bar item and selecting "Show Field Properties", renaming the field and clicking the close button. It breaks. I try double clicking the Field, which causes the Properties window to open, renaming the Field and clicking the close button. It breaks. What gives? If I can do this manually it seems like the Record functionality in Automator ought to be able to do it???? I'm running Snow Leopard and using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 on a MacBook.

OK it appears that selecting the field is what breaks the automation. If I set up the automation to click on the field or drag to select it the automation breaks. If I let the automation run and then move the mouse, the field that I selected in the automation gets dragged around the page. It's like I clicked on the field and held the button down so I could drag it. Same thing happens if I double click the field. Strange....

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Form Duplicate text error

    Hello World!
    I work for a school with 200+ computers installed with **. The problem I'm having is when a user downloads a PDF form from our web page and goes to start inserting data in the fields the text just duplicates in all the boxes. If you try and delete the text from any of the boxes it delets everything. I've tried repairing the install by running the original installer file. I've even reinstalled a test system and still duplicate this error. Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide that will help you help me.

  • Adobe X Pro Form Fields

    In Acrobat 8, I was able to justify a form field to left, center, or right and also vertically justify the field box to either top, center, or bottom.  Right now, all my form fields are vertically centered.  I want teh form field when filled to be bottom aligned to it prints on the lines of my form.
    I can't figure out the new Adobe X...the old way was much easier.   Any help?

    Text fields created in LiveCycle Designer allow that. Text fields created in Acrobat can be vertically centered or bottom aligned, but only if it's set up for rich text formatting and the user selects it. The point is you as the form creator cannot set the vertical justification for a field created in Acrobat.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Signature Field not Accessible

    I created a form using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. It has a signature field. The security settings are off, and according to Pro, all abilities including adding a signature are allowed. When I open the document in Reader XI, I cannot sign it. The Sign tab is available, but all options in that tab are grayed out. I cannot double click on the field or click the signature icon. What settings am I missing?

    Here are three documents that i down loaded, there are others

  • Adobe Acrobat X Form doesn't distribute

    I created a pdf into an interactive form in Life Cycle Designer.  I can't get it to distribute.  When I click Distribute, then I select how I want to handle it, which is manually, then on the next dialoge box I enter the email, name, title and company, but the Next button doesn't work and I can't go forward from there.  I tried to distribute from the Adobe Acrobat software too, and I get the same results - the Next button doesn't work.  What can I do to correct this?  When people share, there is no email address in the 'to' section.

  • Acrobat Flattening Form Fields and Optimizing for Web

    I'm trying to optimize a PDF for the web and flatten all the form fields. I also want to remove the purple dialogue box at the top when optimizing on the web. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've toiled around with it for some time and can't seem to figure it out. In the older version, I would simply save it as a file optimized for the web, which would then flatten all the form fields and remove the purple box at the top. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your question really belongs in one of the Acrobat forums. I flatten form fields (use the pre-flight tool) and then save for the web.

  • Adobe Acrobat - PDF Forms Comparison

    Dear Acrobat Users,
    I desperatly need your help on that one... We are using PDF Forms (created using Adobe LiveCycle), these forms are injected with XML Date using LiveCycle servers.
    We need to compare to these forms between each other, but the built-in compare tool in Acrobat X does not seem to handle PDF forms comparison.
    Do you know how we could proceed to compare the data entered in these forms ?
    We even tried using some software to do a Diff comparison on the XML data, but the problem with this scenario is that we cannot find a way to highlight the changes in the PDF form, once reinjected with the XML data (no way to control the formating from the data itsel e.g. using HTML code...)
    Thanks for your help...

  • Any Adobe Acrobat X Forms Books for Beginners

    I'm wondering if there is any good books for a beginner who doesn't know
    nothing about scripting.  I have Adobe Acrobat X Professional and I'm creating forms
    and would like to learn how to do calculation using scripts to do things.  Does anyone know of any books out there?
    --Gilbert

    It's not a book, but the best resource by far for learning about Acrobat JavaScript programming and working with forms is: http://pdfscripting.com  Also, see what's available at: http://www.math.uakron.edu/dpstory/pdfblog.html  #12-25 in particular.

  • Sharing an Adobe Acrobat XI Form on Shared Drive

    What type of notification will a user get if they go to open an Adobe Acrobat XI fillable form, which is on a shared network drive, and someone else is using it? Is it similar to what one would see with a Word document...that the document is "read only" and you have the option of being notified when the form is available?
    thank you

    Ah I see what you mean. By "without prior warning" I mean there is no warning when opening or at any time prior to the message from failing to save.

  • Renaming Form Fields

    How does one rename contact fields within a Muse form widget?
    I am customizing a form according to a client's wishes, which don't follow the default order of the widget. For example, I've renamed the email field to be the address field following the client's preferred order. The problem is Muse still recognizes it as the email field and expects an email address to be input to function properly.
    Also, I have custom text fields to include that aren't found within the default form widget.
    Can forms from the widget library be customized as I wish?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    You can do this by adding custom fields. Please look at the screenshot below.

  • Adobe Reader 9, Form Fields, Digital Signature

    I have already posted this in Adobe Reader forum and had no replies... probably the wrong area...
    We are a software company and we are developing a simple application, as follows:
    Any number of pdf documents are provided by a third party (our customer / customers). Each form contains any number of fields and a digital signature field.
    Our application must fill the fields with values obtained by a back-end database
    Using Adobe Reader 9, our application must display each pdf document filled in step 2, for users to sign using a Topaz tablet.
    The "blank", original pdf document can be easily completed by hand and signed using the Topaz tablet - thanks to the Adobe Reader plug-in.
    Also, we can quite easily fill all the doument's fields using the popular iTextSharp libraries - we extract relevant data from our back-end database, we set the field values, and we display the document in Adobe Reader 9 (note that after filling the form, we have experimented with "flattened" and "non-flattened" documents....with the same results)...
    Here we start having some problems:
    As soon as the "filled" document is displayed in Adobe Reader, the message "This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enabled in this Reader version." is displayed. And the signature field is disabled and the Topaz plug-in is never invoked.
    It seems that the simple task of programmatically filling the form with data.... disable the most important feature of the form (the signature line).
    Unfortunately, my knowledge of the Adobe product line is somewhat limited....
    After hours of research I think I understand why (even though I find the behavior incredibly strange and restrictive). I still would like, if possible, summary and clear information on what we (and/or the provider of the pdf forms) need to do to accomplish the goal of our application.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
    Giorgio

    jmo here
    In context of your description, use of Acrobat Pro to "enable" PDFs for use by Adobe Reader appears to be contrary to the Acrobat EULA (if nothing else, the "500" limit for forms).
    If that's the case then I suspect your only option would be LiveCycle ES.
    Back down the Forum's timeline, someone mention $50K for a seat.
    But LC ES has many variations (modules if you will) so the price point may be higher.
    Basically, it is expensive (although worth the $$ to the IRS and other large entities).
    Worth noting are the posts in this forum that allude to Adobe's legal actions taken against those who have, it seems, violated the Acrobat EULA.
    If your client(s) are associated with a corporate entity they may be exposed to legal "road hazards"; but, that's speculative, eh?
    Regardless, it does sort of appear that you may be on thin ice vis-a-vis "enable" of PDFs for use by Adobe Reader.
    Be well...

  • How to convert an Excel Formula to a Custom Calculation Script in a Adobe Acrobat 9 Form?

    Hello,
    I am not familiar whatsoever with Javascript and need some help in converting the following Excel Formula so that I can enter it into a Custom Calculation Script in a Adobe PDF Form. Here is the formula:
    =IF(E15<25.01,9.95,IF(E15<50.01,11.95,IF(E15<75.01,13.95,IF(E15<100.01,16.95,IF(E15<150.01 ,19.95,IF(E15<200.01,24.95,IF(E15>200.00,E15*0.125)))))))
    Where "E15" will be the text field named "Subtotal" on my Adobe PDF Form.
    Thank you for any help you can provide!

    Fortunately JavaScript has the 'switch' statement so nested if statements can be avoided.
    var E15 = this.getField("Subtotal").value;
    switch(true) {
    case (E15 < 25.01) :
    event.value = 9.95;
    break;
    case (E15 < 50.01) :
    event.value = 11.95;
    break;
    case (E15 < 75.01) :
    event.value = 13.95;13
    break;
    case (E15 < 100.01) :
    event.value = 16.95;
    break;
    case (E15 < 150.01) :
    event.value = 19.95;
    break;
    case (E15 < 200.01) :
    event.value = 24.95;
    break;
    case (E15 > 200) :
    event.value = E15 * 0.125;
    break;
    default:
    event.value = "";
    break;
    } // end switch;

  • How do I create a custom calculation script in a Adobe Acrobat XI form?

    I am building a time sheet.  Inside this time sheet i have two columns.  One column is labeled Hours and the other is labeled Hours Description.
    The fields are labeled under these columns as follows:
    Column Name      Hours          Hours Description
    Field Name          Hours1        HoursDesc1
    The user will input their hours in Numeric Field "Hours1" and will enter an abbreviation in Text Field "HoursDesc1", for example "A" for Administrative Leave or "C" for Compensatory.
    I want to build a script that if Text Field "HoursDesc1" equals "A" or "C" then display Numeric Field "Hours1", else equal 0.  If they enter anything other than "A" or "C", the result will be zero.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Custom calculation code for the text field in question:
    var desc = this.getField("HoursDesc1").value;
    if (desc=="A" || desc=="C")
         event.value = this.getField("Hours1").value;
    else event.value = 0;
