Adobe Acrobat X 'spools' in both Vista & 7

Hi guys,
I am posting here in the hopes someone else has previously run into this issue. This user originally had Windows Vista, along with an older version of Acrobat (9.0). The problem would be triggered by them attempting to "print to a PDF" through a Citrix client. As soon as the user hits print, the document instantly has a status of "spooling" where it sits in the queue and cannot get removed without stopping the Spooler service in administrative tools. Usually she has to reboot to temporarily fix the problem, and rebooting in our work environment takes about 20-25 minutes sadly. We were hoping by upgrading her machine to a new operating system (Windows 7 x64) and the software itself (Adobe Acrobat X), that they would eliminate the problem. Unfortunately, it's still happening to this day. I've tried numerous application setting tweaks, un-installing/re-installing, nothing seems to fix the issue. Does anyone have anything that may fix this? Thanks in advance,
Jackson

*bump*
Update: This problem I have now realized is beyond just Citrix instances, it's appearing to be any type of document that tries utilizing the Adobe PDF printer. Any application so far has triggered the 'spooling' procedure, so now it could be anything. Anyone run into this kind of thing before?

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on both of my computers.
Some time ago, one crashed my computer and I had to reinstall the operating system and all applications.
After I had installed once Acrobat 9 Sdt in the computer, I wanted to update the software version 9.0.0 update to the same level as it was before the crash and that the other computer has version named 9.5.5.
The system for update from version 9.0.0 does not work at all. "There are no updates" listed in the dialog.
Can you advise how I get my Adobo Acrobat 9 Standard (Version 9.0.0) could be updated to the same level as the computer had before the crash.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on both my Apple Mac Pro and Apple MacBook Pro

I think I found the answer to my question: "May I install my copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on both my Apple Mac Pro and on my recently purchased Apple MacBook Pro?" I think my question was answered in reading the text of the agreement for use of this site in the following:
"You may activate the Software on up to 2 devices (or virtual machines) at a time, if these activations are associated with the same Adobe ID for the same individual, unless stated at http://www.adobe.com/go/activation . However, you may not use the Software on these devices simultaneously."
If this is correct, would you confirm. I know how security conscious Adobe is with their software.
    Thank you! Be Safe!
    Ken

    Hi kennethf71183385,
Thank you so much for asking! Yes, you are entitled to activate your copy of Acrobat on two computers. Please see Activation & Deactivation Help - Adobe Support for more information about activating Adobe software!
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Windows Vista

The last version of Adobe I used to use is version 5. Of
course that is outdated, and it would appear that the files I
created with that version are not compatible with the Adobe Reader
    9. So I downloaded the trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and
tried to install it. The computer I am trying to install it on is
new and the OS running is Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit I
believe). When it says it is installing, after it reaches
99.blah-blah % it keeps asking me about a scanner being connected.
What the heck is that all about? It's weird. I connect my scanner
and it scans and I print a document to a Microsoft OneNote file,
after which when I close the scanner window the program is not
installed at all. I check my program list from my start menu to see
if it is there; and nothing. This thing is, why the heck doesn't it
just install the full trial program like any other normal
installation? I just want to be able to send word, excel, etc.
documents using the acrobat distiller like I used to and create pdf
documents. This is very frustrating. If this is some kind of
strange compatibility issue with Vista, than I am really starting
to regret buying a system with Vista on it more and more. Can
anyone tell me what is going on here. What I may be doing wrong?
    Anything. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello,
I'm sorry I'm not able to address your question. These forums
    are specific to the
Acrobat.com website and its set of hosted services, and do
not cover the Acrobat family of desktop products.
Any questions related to the Acrobat family of desktop

  • Adobe Acrobat printer not installed in Vista

I installed Adobe Acrobat 9 in windows XP and Vista. In XP installed properly and can covert to PDF. In Vista installed properly but can't find the Adobe printer in printers, when I open File ---> Print from any application can't found Adobe PDF. But when right click a file "Convert to Adobe PDF" appears and can convert. Please help me to solve this. Also I have Adobe reader 8 in vista.

Convert to Adobe PDF is a preprocessor for the Adobe PDF printer. Thus, for any conversion with Acrobat you have to have the printer installed. As a work around, you can install another PS printer and then open the PS file in Distiller, but that is not a great workaround. Sorry that I do not have an answer in terms of the Adobe PDF printer. Good luck.

    Here are additional Details:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5450 @1,66GHz 1,67 GHz
    Memory(RAM): 2046 MB
    System type: 32-bit Operating System
    Is anything possible?
Which version of Adobe Acrobat would you recommend?

    Hi Zurab,
It sounds like you might not have SP2 installed for WIndows Vista.  http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/tech-specs.html
Acrobat 9 did not require any Vista Service packs to be installed.

  • Which version of Adobe Acrobat Pro is compatible with Vista operating system? how to buy it?

I tried to install Acrobat Pro XI on my laptop; but it failed to install because I have Vista operating system. Am I dead in the water, or is there a way to install an earlier version on my machine?

    Hi nirbhay,
You can purchase Acrobat Pro subscription and install it on Vista OS.
Please check : Tech specs | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
The earlier versions Acrobat 9 and 10 are compatible with Vista but they are no longer available for purchase.

  • Cannot open Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 in Windows Vista

I can no longer open my Adobe or use it in any way.
All of my other CS4 programs operate fine, and this is not a licensing issue.
A little Microsoft Window pops up and says that Adobe Acrobat 9.1 has stopped working.
It will shut down and contact me when the issue is resolved.
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your help. AA9 would not open at any time for any thing; when
I tried to open a PDF file, when I tried to create a PDF file with word or
excel or when I tried to open the icon on my desktop.
I took your advise and cleaned my registry and reinstalled. I also made
Adobe Reader 9 my default PDF reader. However, although I can create PDFs
from word or excel (with it still stopping as soon as the document has been
converted), I still cannot open AA9 to create a new portfolio or add to an
existing or open the icon on my desktop. I have tried to repair the
application but with the same results.
Any ideas? And thanks again for your help.

This fix worked on Windows Vista Business Edition (32-Bit).

I have windows XP media center. I uninstalled Acrobat 8 to download Acr 9 pro extended. No adobe printer was installed .
Tried the steps given here by Steve Lionel. I was able to add the "Adobe PDF Converter" as printer. Although after the 7th step in Steve's fix, the wizard asked me to search for some files (from XP CDrom) which I was able to locate in the Windows folder-drivers folder and the system32-spool folder.
I went to acrobat, opened a pdf file and tried to print with this printer and saved it on the desktop. A file appears, but adobe cannot open it however it activates adobe illustrator and opens in that program.
Lots of time has gone. No solution yet.
    Appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Update!!!
I tried printing on this printer from a webpage and it converted the webpage like charm.
I am more than happy even if I get to use this printer to convert webpages to pdf as now I don't have to install those shady pdf converters and printer drivers.
This is good as the fix given here works even for XP.
    Thanks for this wonderful solution.

  • Running into problems with Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 on 64-bitWindows Vista

I am installing Acrobat 8.0 Standard on a Windows Vista machine.
During the installation, it asks for a file called, AdobePDF.Dll for Adobe Acrobat Vista disk. I searched the Adobe Installation CD
for that file but could not find it. I chose to cancel but the installation went ahead. It seems to have successfully installed Acro
bat but I would like to get an explanation of the missing file and any problems I may encounter as a result.
When I print to a PDF, the Printque says spooling but I am never prompted for file name. It never finishes. Even when I tried to cancel printing, it does not seem to go away.

Try to uninstall and reinstall. If you still have problems try Detect and repair.

  • How to Uninstall Adobe Acrobat 9.0 from Vista?

On my laptop (Windows Vista), I have a Adobe Acrobat 9.0 which I need to uninstall. It was giving me limited access and use. To remedy this, I installed, Adobe Reader 8.0. That works fine but when I want to read pdf files, the 9.0 version pops up first and gives me a message that I'm unable to read the file. I can't always elect "Save Target As" to opt to use the 8.0 version of Reader (i.e. viewing bank statements).
When I went to delete Adobe 9.0 from my C drive, I was denied access because I "don't have permission".
Does anyone know how to fix this?

You can only uninstall from an administrative account. Be aware you are not supposed to have Reader and Acrobat on the same machine. Uninstalling Acrobat 9 will break Reader which will need to be re-installed. For Vista compatability make sure you update to 8.1.3 or later.

  • Upgrading Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to 9 on Vista

I just bought a new computer with Windows Vista. I have an old Adobe Acrobat 5.0 CD which I was limping along with just fine... until now. Apparently Vista doesn't like 5.0. So, I purchased Adobe Acrobat 9... the upgrade. I cannot find any mention of which versions can be upgraded to Adobe 9, but here is what happened...
During installation of Adobe 9, I got a message saying that 5.0 conflicts with 9 and that I should uninstall 5.0 before proceeding. So, I did. However, when I ran Adobe 9 (after installation was complete), the program looked for a previous version of Adobe and couldn't find it. Well, of course not... it was uninstalled. But, the dialog said I had only to specify my old version, type in my registration id from my previous version, and all would be good... BUT, my choices start with Adobe 6, not 5.
SOOOO, I uninstalled 9, reinstalled 5, and have started the installation of 9 again, and come to the point where it recommends I uninstall 5. Well, one of the options is to proceed with the installation without uninstalling 5, and I just don't know if I should. I'm not even sure if the upgrade will accept 5 as a previous version, and I don't know if 9 will work with 5 installed as well... and I don't know if 9 will still work when I uninstall 5 afterward.
Any help or insgight into this dilemma is appreciated!
