Adobe Acrobat X - windows XP thumbnails of all file types

I have looked through much of the forums but the thumbnail queries I can find relate to within Adobe Acrobat or the Acrobat thumbnail in windows.
We have a problem that seems to affect multiple users. With Adobe Acrobat X installed. .jpg files do not show up properly in thumbnail view (nor do any other pictures/documents for that matter) within windows explorer. Uninstalling Adobe Acrobat X resolves this. We had already tried disabling Protected mode and I can find nothing online mentioning this exact issue.
Is there a fix or will I need to install the older version /alternative product.
kind regards,
Daniel

Thats fair enough and I didn't put *reader* in the original post - my error. I did have it in the tags though. I'm sure it used to be in the past called acrobat reader. Hence why i automatically used it. In any case the original question stands. Has anyone else had problems with thumbnails when Adobe reader X is installed within windows explorer, sometimes non show, sometimes just a few. And disabling protected mode makes no difference. Uninstalling the product seems to resolve it.
I was hoping there might be a fix, otherwise we'll have to downgrade to a usable product or use an alternative free product.

  • Adobe Acrobat gives an error message "The key file is missing, canceled"

    Hi,
Adobe Acrobat gives an error message "The key file is missing, canceled" this is a direct translation of the Finnish error message. Acrobat is already re-installed. The operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2, and there is also installed Adobe Reader X.

Please let us know do you see this error on every launch of Acrobat?
Recommended is to have latest version of Acrobat and Reader. i.e. 10.1.8
Try updating application and then see if you still encounter the error.

  • Arrgh! Is anybody else having problems with the Adobe Acrobat open source approach to handling PDF files? I am getting as many as three crashes and full reboot per day and the delays are terribly frustrating.

Do I have a registry problem?
Every time I open a PDF file my local Adobe Acrobat (6.0) installation opens AND the file displays in Firefox (v. 4.0.1). When I close the PDF file it tells me other PDF files are open and asks if I'm sure I want to close Acrobat.
The process is messy and somewhere, before too long there is a memory error that causes the whole system to crash.
Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have any idea how to fix the conflict?

  • Suddently yesterday all file types are downloaded as "attachment.ashx" instead of pdf or doc or whatever.

I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

Firefox 9.0 will revert the 8.0 changes, waiting for a definitive fix from Microsoft: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703015

  • It should be possible to set default behavior for all file types

It should be possible to set a default action for all file types. I'm so tired of having to manually sit and say "save this file" because Firefail always defaults to "open with" and has disabled the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on."
And spare me the zealotry religious excuses for why its the fault of websites and not Firefail

I do want users to have full control to be able to set any folder view they want by using Apply to Folders; I just want to set the initial/default view to Detail because that matches what the majority of my users want.
That is, what registry setting changes when I go to a picture folder, change the view to Detail, and click Apply to Folders? Having done that, I still retain the ability to change it to some other view and apply that to folders. But what registry setting
represents the change I just made when applying Detail view to all Picture folders.?
This settings is simple via GUI, but it is related a lot of registry keys, I made a test in my machine, capture the "Apply to Folders" process using Regshot tool (this is a small tool which can compare the regsitry changes after you change some
settings), and this is the result:
this is part of the registry changes, a plenty of registry keys and values need to be changed. hard to list them here. if you have interests, I recommend the tool Regshot, it can help you capture the regsitry changes.

On my mac I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 pro. Both applications seem to be crashing quite often lately. This happens when playing all files types. I notice it more with .flv file. Sometimes putting the computer to sleep and waking it up helps. Is there a way to remedy this?

  • How do I fix Error 1602 in Adobe Acrobat X (Windows 8.1)

I just did a clean install of Windows 8.1 (64-bit) on my Dell laptop with 8GB of RAM and an i5 processor.
I then installed Adobe Acrobat X from the Adobe download site and used the product key that I have.  The install completed successfully and I've used Acrobat to review and edit a few documents.  Everything seems fine.
The issue I'm having is that Acrobat X has downloaded software updates for me to apply.  However, when I try to apply them, I click on Install and then receive the following in a dialog box:
    Update Failed
An error occurred.  Adobe Acrobat Updater will try again later.
    Error:  1602
I have researched a fix on-line, but those fixes are for Windows XP and Vista for Acrobat 8 and 9.
I would appreciate any help you all can provide.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Pro not working (at all) following update

I have been have issues with my Adobe Acrobat XI Pro for a few weeks now.  It stopped allowing me to view, create and print pdfs a few weeks ago.  As I teach part time online at a university- I commonly use pdf's to provide information to my students.  I also use pdf's to transfer data back and for from my work computer - for my full time job - to my home computer and back again.  Not having this availability is really hindering my work.
My computer runs on Windows 7 with a 64 bit operating system.  Up until a few weeks ago I had no problems.  I'm thinking an update may have gone through that caused the issues.
In order to reload my full program I had to completely reformat one of my drives which I had remnants of an old adobe version on it- unfortunately, I did not realize that outlook was still pointing to this drive so I lost a lot of data in the long run- needless to say this adobe issue is has been more than just a nuisance to me.
Once the drive was clean- I was able to reload my software for Adobe XI Pro. It worked perfectly after I loaded it.  At least I was able to breath a sigh of relief.  The next day (yesterday) I was informed that some security updates were needed on the program- considering the age of my disks- It seemed plausible and I received the updates.  This evening, as I was setting up my course for winter semester- I tried to open a pdf- and low and behold- I am back where I was- I can't do anything again.  What is going on here?  I need this program to work- yesterday!  Actually I needed it weeks ago when I started realizing I had issues.
There has to be a fix out there for this problem- and I can't be the only one with this problem.  I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone has!
    Thank you!

    Bill-
Thanks for the suggestion- but unfortunately this doesn't work- the reason being is that "Repair" is not option.
I took a snapshot and attached it of what is available for me when I click on Adobe and as you can see- Repair is not an option.
I'm getting to the point of frustration- I will probably uninstall adobe again and refuse to get any updates for it.  I honestly do not know what else to do.
Without adobe I can't post assignments for my college students to my website.  Winter term starts tomorrow and I am very much behind schedule because of this problem.
I can't be the only person having this issue.
Again- I do appreciate the suggestion.  Wish it would have worked.

I downloaded the attached vi from this forum and it works perfectly in windows XP with the same version of labview(6.1) and adobe acrobat reader (6.0). However, it hangs immediately when i am just trying to open the vi on windows 98....
I have also experimented with the MS browser activex control(activex container + object), it works on both windows XP and 98 for opening html files and on XP, it can open a link that leads to an PDF file display properly in the container window but it fails again in 98.

  • "Upgrading" from Adobe Acrobat for Windows to Adobe Acrobat for OS X (Mac)

I own Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard but no longer use it because I purchased a Mac. Can I "upgrade" to a Mac version of Adobe Acrobe Acrobat?

No upgrades from Acrobat 7 are available for anyone - they finished long ago, unfortunately. Only Acrobat 9 upwards are eligible.
You would simply need to purchase Acrobat XI (11) Pro for Mac.
(Note if anyone happens to have a recent version of Acrobat Standard and wants to upgrade to Acrobat Pro for Mac, this is called a "crossgrade" and only available by directly talking to Adobe customer service).
