Adobe Acrobe 6.0 Standard + Reader 9.0

Hello, I have a computer that has Acrobat 6.0 Standard in order to create PDFs. However, when the user attempts to open a .pdf in a web browser (as a link) it will not open and gives me the "...need 8.0/9.0 to view" error message. This is why Reader 9.0 is also installed. However, no matter how many file associations I change to 9.0, or whichever options I change in 6.0 or 9.0, I can not seem to get Internet Explorer to attempt to open the link with 9.0! Everytime I click the link, I get the error and 6.0 opens up into a blank document. However, if I download to desktop and open locally, 9.0 opens the document just fine by default. Why cant I set 9.0 to open links in Internet Explorer?

I too had your problem but just fixed it by uninstalling the version 9 reader and installing version 8 instead.  The pdf files I was trying to view on the internet work just fine with that version and it doesn't automatically try to bring up my standard ver 6.  You can still download 8 at adobe's website on the following http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/.
I hope this helps.

  • Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard Work With Adobe Reader 8.2.4?

    Hello,
I have a question, but haven't found an answer to this yet.
Can anyone tell me please:  Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard work with Adobe Reader 8.2.4?
I had Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard on my computer & it was working with Adobe Reader 8, but don't remember what the version it was.
I was using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard to scan very old family pictures & documents & I realize that this version of Acrobat is outdated.
To make a long story short, my computer had crashed, so we built another computer & just replaced the hard drive.  When I went to Adobe, I had to download the newer version of Reader 9.0 & it didn't work with Acrobat 6.0., so I removed Adobe Reader 9 & I found Adobe Reader 8.0 & have downloaded the patches, so now I have Adobe Reader 8.2.4 back on board.
    Thank you.

Adobe doesn't recommend any version of Reader with any version of Acrobat on Windows. It will cause problems. It just is a matter of how and when. The problem has to do with shared resources causing conflicts. If you have Acrobat 8, you can update it to Acrobat 8.2.4. You must apply the updates sequentially.

  • Baffled! What are adobe acrobat 8.1 standard and adobe reader 8.1.05

My laptop has installed adobe acrobat 8.1 standard. I need to complete an online form which requires a minimum of adobe reader 8.1.05 so I downloaded adobe reader X, assuming this would work, but get a pop-up notice telling me I need to upgrade and still cannot insert text in the form. Can anyone advise me what I need to download? I really am confused what the adobe acrobat does and what the reader does!

The developer very poorly phrased the requirement.
The proper phrasing could be "You need to update your version of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to minimum version of 8.1.05."
Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are 2 distinct products, one only reads the other is a full processing product., but both products interact with the same file format and for the same version number Adobe Acrobat has the same capabilities that Adobe Reader has and then some features that are unique to Acrobat.
With JavaScirpt a developer can identify the product (Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat), the variation (Reader, Standard, Professional, Business Tools) and the major and minor version of the product. And with that information and knowledge of the capabilities of each version, can make a custom message for the end user if a newer version is needed. This script can be executed as the PDF is opened. With some simple coding the developer could have even cusotmized the message for the procuct that tue user had. Had this been done, it would have been very clear as what you had to do. This information and properties have been avilable since the introduction of JavaScript in vesion 3.01.

  • Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) and Adobe Acrobat 7.1 Standard Issue

I am running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit and IE9.
I have had Adobe Acrobat 7.1 Standard installed on my PC for a while without any problems.
Today, while trying to open some forms on a government website, I received the following message:
I clicked OK to install Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) and restarted my PC to complete the installation.
Once I logged back into my PC, every single icon on my taskbar, start menu, all programs, etc. had been changed to the Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) icon below, and when I clicked on any of them, I received a message that Adobe did not support that file/application.
The only way I was able to resolve this issue was to unistall Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) from my PC and everything went back to normal.
Is there a way to have both Adobe Acrobat 7.1 Standard and Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) installed on my PC without experiencing the above issue?
Please note that I need to have both programs, but I cannot afford to spend money to upgrade my current version of Adobe Acrobat.

Thanks for your input Michael Kazlow.
However, it appears that contrary to your statement, it is possible to run different versions of Acrobat and Reader at the same time.
I have found this Adobe's article outlining 4 diffent solutions to resolve the issue I was experiencing in my original request on this forum http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86069.html
In my particular case, I was able to resolve my issue by following the first solution in the article.

.  I have Adobe Actobat 7.0 Standard for quite a while, and I'm happy with it. I use it for mainly filings at the federal court.  They require PDF.  I use two computers in two different states for work.  I realize my Adobe 7.1 is a few years old, but sometimes I have difficulty using it with the other days downloading a boarding pass, and e filing at the USDC. .  There's a problem with Adobe Flash, media, etc.  and other Adobe programs, (which I use for downloading boarding passes for airlines, etc.) so basically I have to delete these other Adobe programs, besides the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard if I want to 7.0 Standard to work.  I periodically download the updates, but there's still a problem. My question is:  Can or should I purchase another program to update the present Adobe Acrobat 7.0 standard, or just buy a new program such as the Adobe 11?  Am I mistakenly doing something wrong, such as when I download?  I'm an old valued customer so I don't want to spend a lot of money since I am replacing my Dell XP for a new computer now, and my other computer is a Dell Vista.
    I'd appreciate your valued advice.

If you are getting a new computer (for a PC it would have Win 7 or 8), then you will need to purchase XI if you wish to continue using Acrobat. Acrobat 7 is not compatible with these systems (and probably the same for MAC systems), though sometimes workarounds are possible, though not easy to use. I guess the answer is to buy the new version. Try http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software _sl_mostpopular.html, click on the Buy for Acrobat, and then select the version you want.

  • Adobe acrobat 9.0 standard

I just got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and have been using Acrobat 9.0 standard for a very long time.  Found out from Adobe Chat that 9.0 standard is not available as an online download and that the CD must be used.  Could not find the CD for 9.0 but found a CD for 6.0.  It is odd that we would have misplaced the 9.0 CD so I thought possibly 6.0 was the original and that we have been upgraded from there.  Tried to download 6.0 yesterday evening but there were compatibility issues.  Decided that today, we would just buy new software.  I turned on my computer first thing and noticed that a 9.0 file folder on my desktop including the install feature.  Tried to install but of course they want a serial number and if thought maybe the one on the 6.0 CD would work and it said it was an invalid serial number.  So I am at a stopping point...Chat says only this forum can help with the 9.0 std product.
Am I just missing the 9.0 std CD or am I doing something wrong?  Should I just purchase new software (we are registered with Adobe for 9.0 standard) and if so, what would be the best Acrobat product (I already have "reader" - I need the product so that I can edit, stamp, combine files into 1 pdf etc.) for Windows 8.1?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard - PDF Printer suppress file name prompt

    Hi,
We are currently developing a product for Autodesk Revit with regards to drawing generation/export.  Revit does not have an inbuilt PDF writer.  As such most users either use free PDF Printers or Adobe Acrobat Standard.
We have managed to automate the naming of files using some of the free PDF printers, and suppress the file save as name prompt for each sheet in a set of prints.
We'd also like to add support for Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard.  Is this possible through the Acrobat API?
Any prompt help would be greatly appreciated as we are keen to get our product out to market very soon!
    Thanks.

Thanks.  That's all I needed for now.  Our developer will take a look when he comes to doing that section of the product.
    Cheers.

  • Cannot Copy and Paste in Adobe Acrobat Version 9 Standard

I just bought a new computer and with it I purchased Adobe Acrobat Version 9 Standard.  In the past I used previous version of Acrobat standard and professional to create drawings and to copy and paste my engineering seal on my structural calculations.  I am having (2) problems.  The first is when I try to copy and paste my seal from a PDF file, it does not work in Version 9.  I use the snap shot tool.  Please try the attached file using Version 9.  It works in Version 8 Standard and Version 7 professional.
The second is when I try to printing from AutoDesk products.  I had the problem of when I would print a PDF from AutoCAD it would sooo big.  To work around that, I started using Autodesk Reviewer and creating my PDFs from an Autodesk DWF file.  WIth Version 9, I now having the file size problem with the DWF files.  It is about 5 times larger than the DWF and the qualtiy is terrible.  I was able to create a PDF from a DWF from Version 7 and 8 without these problems.

It has been a part of Acrobat for a while now but DWF was added in Acrobat 8, I believe. As far as older versions are concerned, the version of AutoCAD you have matters. See: http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2008/12/version_compatibility_of_acrob.html. In addition, AutoCAD 2009 is supported in Acrobat 9.1.
I would recommend downloading a trial copy of Acrobat and see if it meets your requirements.

  • Gaps inbetween letters of full words when Merging files to single PDF (Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard)

I've raised a Bug Report although it says that I may not be contacted so thought someone else might have encountered this issue and hopefully knows what causes it and how to fix. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Heres a copy of the Bug Report details...
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
An intermitent issue is occuring when merging multiple files into a single PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard, the resulting PDF file has gaps inbetween the letters of actual words. For example the word "document" may appear in part of the PDF as "doc ument". This seems to affect various parts of the final PDF file.
Setup: Windows XP SP2, Adobe Acrobat 9.0, Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
    Steps to reproduce bug:
I am currently unable to replicate the issue on demand but this has happened three times since installing Adobe Acrobat 9.0 a month ago. The most recent occurance happened when merging 6 Microsoft Word Documents. It is a real problem due to the fact that every PDF created needs to be carefully checked and in some cases these PDFs have hundreds of pages.
    The steps used are:
    1) Open Adobe Acrobat 9.0
    2) Click File
    3) Combine
    4) Merge Files into a single PDF
    5) Add Files (select the required files)
    6) Combine Files (which then processes and creates single PDF)
    Results:
A single PDF is then created and as mentioned is occasionally affected by this issue of random gaps appearing within words.
    Expected results:
A single PDF with the same formatting and layout as the original files.

    Thanks for the response.
I have checked though the Word documents that were used in the most recent merge. They don't have any spaces at these areas or strange formatting. I turned on the Show/Hide option to confirm if there was anything odd but I could not see anything. The formatting (Ctrl+D) shows the default font Arial, Regular, font 12.
The interesting thing is that if it occurs and attempt another file merge the gaps are no longer there. Which makes me think this is unlikely to be the documents and formatting being used and more likely to be a bug in Adobe Acrobat.
Is there anything else that might be of use to know?

  • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard

My Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard no longer wotks with Apple OS X 10.7.2 LION.
If an updayte available or do I have to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro X

Acrobat 7 was released in 2005. That's ancient in computer years. You'll definitely need to upgrade to Acrobat Pro X to run it under Lion.

  • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard will not open

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard in July 2005. It has worked fine with no bugs. I really do not need to upgrade but now have a problem. I have had some other issues with my computer and now when I try to open this program, I get a window that says:
The installation source for this product is not available. Veryify that the source exists and that you can access it.
I have not deleted it to my knowledge but it won't open. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks a million!

If you registered or can show proof of purchase, you should be able to get it back from Adobe, though they will likely tell you to upgrade. It is a matter of proof of purchase. The registration is the standard process to assure this agreement. They claim they do not have old versions, but I doubt that is totally true if you push the point and can demonstrate the purchase.
In any case, Adobe is the one that would have to fix the issue for you. Next time, be sure to burn a CD and also register (if not done). Burning program CDs is important for any software you buy off the web.

  • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard Combine Files Format Issue

I have an issue combining multiple PDF files into one. Every week we create a sales deck that is made of up 30 or so files. most of the files are created from a program called Cognos Impromptu using the Cognos PDF Server 5.0.44.0. According to the document properties, it creates a PDF Version: 1.3(Acrobat 4.x). I can not change this conversion setting.
I then convert several word documents and Excel documents into PDF files separately and then combine them all together. These individual files are created using Acrobat Distiller 7.0.5 (Windows) and creates a PDF Version: 1.4(Acrobat 5.x).
The problem happens when I throw one of the files created from Cognos into the mix. It causes the formatting on the PDF files created from word and excel to become "ugly". Random letters just drop off from the report and make it unreadable. Pages created from the cognos reports are always ok. If I try the combine excluding the cognos converted PDF files, it works perfectly.
This happened when we got new computers last week. By some stroke of luck, I was able to fix it on my computer and I don't have the issue any more. However, I am trying to fix it on my coworkers computer and Im not having any luck. Our settings match perfectly in Acrobat, Distiller, and PDF Maker installed in Excel and Word. I don't even know what I did to fix mine.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. We are both running Windows XP and have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard edtion.
    Thank you

    Bill,
thanks for the reply. I think i got it. When they gave us the new computers, they installed a copy of acrobat without some of the latest updates. update 7.0.5,.7,.8, and .9 were missing from our programs. I also noticed that her create to PDF setting for microsoft office was set to standard but the distiller was using high quality. i think fixing the combination of the two may have fixed it. I am going to try and create a full report and see. I will post back and let you know if the issue is gone.
    thanks again.

  • Downloading issue - Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard

I'm having some problems downloading my Adobe 9.0 Standard from my account. The product and the serial number are both displayed under My orders, but when I press Download it says I have nothing to download. I just spoke to the Technical Support and they told me my serial number was still active - all I needed was the download link, which seems to have been removed - or is not working. I purchased the product in 2009 and had it working on my computer up until recently when my computer crashed. I now have a new computer (Windows 7 operating system) and need to download the program again. Please advice.

  • Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard

Hello! I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard in a computer. I want to insert a word 2003 document into a pdf document. I try to do it but without any solution. It started doing something but then you see that there is nothing in the pdf document; in other computers it works. My windows is XP.

It is best to create a PDF of the pages you want from the WORD document first. Then do the insert. I am not sure that insert will activate PDF Maker to complete the conversion for WORD files, but even if it does it is best to create the PDF first. It may be that you have an issue with PDF Maker (that can be seen if PDF Maker does not work from WORD). Try the PDF creation first and see if that does the job. The short cut you are using is not always the best route.

  • Reinstall adobe acrobat 8.0 standard

    Dear Adobe,
I need to reinstall Adobe acrobat 8.0 standard after formatting. Unofrtunately I have not a backup. I have the serials but not the original install files. Is there anyway to download somewhere the files?
    Many thanks

The link provided by Mylenium eventually leads to
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Only the Acrobat 8 Pro for Windows link is available there and entering your Acrobat Standard serial number into the Acrobat Pro installer will not work. A separate Acrobat Standard installer is required.
Are you trying to reinstall on a Dell? If so, you can get the software from https://smartsource.dell.com
Other than that, I'm not aware of any links for Acrobat Standard 8, sorry.
