Adobe After Effects & Illustrator are incredibly slow on a fast computer :S

In serious need of a computer genius. I have a computer that should have a great performance although till now it's acting frustratingy slow with the Adobe Programs. I have the legal Adobe Creative Cloud. I mainly use Illustrator and After Effects and that is where I noticed the problems.
Illustrator: slows down over time. Over a period of half an hour the program gets extremely slow and laggy (happens with every project).
After Effects: Is really slow with rendering. Also RAM render goes extremely slow even with very very simple projects. (even a shape layer that only moves from the left to the right is RAM rendering frame per frame and takes half a second to render every frame -_-).
It's not workable. I have tried all kinds of forums and have all the settings of After Effects optimized.
My windows device Manager and System Information sais that everything is working ok. The RAM is detected by the System and also After Effects detects the RAM.
I don't know what the f*** is wrong.. Getting a bit mad here. Who can help me out?
This are some specifications of my computer. If you need any more info let me know.

  • Adobe after effects not responding, ever!

I have been having this issue for a long time and cant seem to find a solution, maybe I am wording it wrong, i dont know. It worked just fine for about a year, but now basically every single time I open adobe after effects cs5 it works for about 1-2 minutes and then freezes, the typical "this program is not responding" message shows up with no error code. it doesnt matter what I do or what I click on, it happens every single time! Its really frusterating! my computer has 32 gb, I'm sure that is plenty of RAM. I have done all the updates on the adobe website (including the quicktime updates) I saw OpenGL mentioned many times but I cant seem to find anything like that on my computer so I dont know if that is a problem or not. I noticed on the sytem requirements list (I have a windows 7 professional) they said that the processor must be Intel® Core™2 Duo or AMD Phenom® and my computer has intel (R) Xeon(R) cpu  5160 @   3.00GHZ  3.00 ghz (2 processors) I honestly have no idea if that would be a problem. If anyone else has had this issue I would love to hear how you fixed it, I have tried so many things chances are I already tried it but still.

okay sorry it took so long, this is my dads old computer so I had to keep calling him haha. so I literally anwered everything, I really want to find a solution!
    1) adobe after effects cs5 with the 10.0.2 update
    2) on the adobe website it looks like this is the most recent update for cs5 on windows
    3) windows 7 professional 64 bit opetrating system
    4) intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU, 2 processors, 32 GB of ram, NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800, 2 disk drives, no external drives
    5) NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800
I couldnt seem to find anything about CUDA , I googled it but couldnt find anything to tell me how to find out this info, if you know please let me know
    6) nvidia quadro fx 5800
    7) source footage is microsoft video AVI, with quicktime
    8) it was just the typical "this program is not responding, please wait for the program to respond" I let it run a couple times to see if it ever responded but it never did. but the last couple of times I opened AE it just freezes and no message shows up.
    9) it doesnt matter what I do, even if I just open it and let it sit there it still freezes up.
    10) it worked for about a year, I dont beleive anything major has changed on my computer, but I have been stuggling with this problem so long I wouldnt be able to remember anyways.
    11) yes quicktime is installed and updated, it is version 7.7.4
    12) I usually dont have anything else running other than AE
    13) I asked my dad about this and he said he didnt think so so I assume that means no.
    14) yes I have openGL enabled
    15) within the first two minutes of opening AE doesnt matter if I am editing, ram previewing, or nothing.
    16) I have tried checking and unchecking the "render multiple frames simultaneously multiprocessing" and the problem occurs either way, but right now I am using it.
    17) no use of ray traced 3d rendering
    18) not an out put problem
    19) exact sequence of steps? well... I click on adobe after effects, it opens kinda slower than it used to, then I usually will his ram preview because then I can see when it stops exactly, but I also have tried opening it and just looked at settings or preferences or what not and it would freeze then, or I will click on a diffrent compositions and it would freeze. pretty much whatever steps I take it always happens.

  • Hi I'm thinking of buying Adobe After Effects CC for my MacBook Pro. But I am worried it won't work. Here are my specs 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB Ram, 1333 MHz DDR3,13-inch (1280 x 800) are my displays and I'm up to date with latest software.

Hi I'm thinking of buying Adobe After Effects CC for my MacBook Pro. But I am worried it won't work. Here are my specs 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB Ram, 1333 MHz DDR3,13-inch (1280 x 800) are my displays and I'm up to date with latest software. I need to know if this will work on this Mac and or if there is any other After Effects that will work.

The display would not. However, your model does not have a discrete GPU, and the integrated (Intel 3000) would not meet CS6's requirements (any CS6 software) alone.
    However:
    Standard VRAM:
    384 MB
    Maximum VRAM:
    512 MB*
    Details:
Apple reports that "memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 384 MB". *If upgraded to 8 GB of RAM (or more), 512 MB will be reserved for video function.
In other words, you would need to upgrade your RAM to 8 GB. The VRAM (video ram) of the processor can exceed its specifications if you upgrade your memory to 8 GB. In order to run the software, you would have to upgrade your RAM first:

  • Adobe After Effects on Mac renders too slow

In one of the mac pro machines with 24GB RAM, Adobe after effects utilizes only 6% RAM during renders. we changed its preference settings too but still same status. Could any body suggest how to increase RAM utilization in Adobe AE 10.0 renders on Mac.

After Effects builds a frame at a time with the elements that are in that frame. Particle generators take more memory, but an HD Video Frame is only so big. You can't force the app to use more memory than is required for the frame that is being processed. CPU usage is another thing to consider. The more number crunching there is to be done the more cpu power is required. Some rendering operations don't require a lot of CPU power so not much is used. Then there's multi-processing. Only a hand full of plug-ins from third party developers are MP aware so you don't get that much help there.
Here's another thing to consider. The ram usage reported by AE is only the ram that is being utilized to process that frame. If you use up 100% of the ram rendering what is going to be left to store frames for playback?
The key to faster renders is to maximimize the data path to write the data and to minimize the unused data caused by scaling huge assets down to fit into a video frame. Until the basic way a video frame is digested and processed in AE you are not going to see full usage of all of your machine assets while processing video.

Your problem is that the program wants a good video card and a fast hard drive and lots of memory and you have none of the above. If you upgraded the RAM to 8 gigs and installed a solid state hard drive you might make the program useable but the real bottleneck  is going to be the Intel HD graphics, which cannot be upgraded.
You do have an open slot to add one 4 gig memory module. This is an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade. See here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7FvZ-JduRM
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct51264bf160b
I would try this a step at a time. Next would be the solid state drive. That would cost maybe $150. Post back if you need more help.

  • Problem with Adobe After Effects CS6 on Windows 8.1 PRO

Hi Adobe Systems guys, I would like to know when the error will have the solution presented Adobe After Effects CS6 (Latinoamerican Spanish Version) running Windows 8.1 PRO, and throwing the following error.
I've tried the latest available update 11.0.3 but does not correct the problem. I wonder when will be ready the solution because with Illustrator CS6 also was the same but with the solution described in this page, http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/illustrator-does-not-start-windows-81.html was solved perfectly.
I appreciate prompt as we need urgent help to use the software in its Spanish version as was originally purchased. thanks

That such a friend, for I tell you that none of their solutions is an option for me because:
    • Wait a couple of months with no after effects in the hope That a patch will come ... someday
R:/ The problem is not mine, is problem of Abode and therefore investing heavily in the creative suite CS6 and for that to be an option.
It's not fair to have to beg for a solution.
    • Upgrade to CC and enjoy all the latest features
R:/ It is not possible , because we will not spend more money than they already invested in Suite CS6
    • Use After Effects CS6 in English
R:/ It is not possible as the staff in charge of managing this program if it is not handled in English and therefore bought the suite in Spanish .
    • Roll your computer back to Windows 8 instead of 8.1
R:/ It is not possible as it is known all Windows 8.0 failures we have put in 8.1 PRO .
I do not understand is that if Adobe Illustrator had the same problem and it was fixed within a couple of days getting the patch , why not do the same with After Effects CS6 in Spanish . All users of this suite CS6 and buyers deserve respect and prompt solution to the problems that are the fault of Adobe.

  • Adobe After Effect on Xsan Volume

Is there anybody using Adobe After Effect(AE) 6.5 on Xsan Volume in PowerMac G5?
In doing 2k or 4k DI work, AE browses many of sequence files (maybe up to 10,000 files in a folder)
File type is Cineon( *.cin), and file size is about 12MB for 2k, 48MB for 4k each.
The problem is that when the number of files is over than 5,000, movie preview gets very slow.
It takes 3~5 second to move from a point to another point.
This is happening only in PowerMac client, in Windows client (SNFS installed and using AE 6.5 same) it does not happen.
PowerMac 2.7G DP with 8GB RAM(10.4.2) is being used.
MDC is Xserve 2.3G DP with 1GB RAM), Xsan 1.1 is installed on all Mac machine.
2 Xserve RAID 5.6TB are being used for userdata.(4 RAID controller)
Metadata pool is belong to another Xserve RAID.
While, this symptom dows not appear in case Xserve RAID is directly attached to PM.
So, I thinks this is being from the difference between filesystems(HFS+ vs. Xsan filesystem) and
file index mechanism(Windows XP vs. Max OS X Tiger)
Is there any way to solve this problem?
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve

    Steve,
I don't know if this is the same basic symptom or not, but FCP has an extremely difficult (can I emphasize extremely) time reconnecting to media on Xsan Volumes. It is so slow that you think it has crashed or something.
There is definitely an indexing issue on Xsan Volumes, that is not present in HFS+. If your issues is related to this at all, I am sorry to say, there is no fix for it yet, at least on the FCP side of things.
    That's my two cents.
    Good Luck

  • Adobe After Effects 7.0 on Rosetta

Does anybody know if Adobe After Effects 7.0 will run well on Rosetta? Any problems?
We are thinking about upgrading to an intel based mac and we just want to make sure that the software is still going to work.

A question dear to my heart, as well, for which there seems to be very little concrete response.
But I will say that from other fora I have read that there is definitely a speed hit; some indicate that it is no better than before (Power PC processor), and others that it is slower and it's best to wait (maybe till May; ugh!)
I had the impression that if your expectations aren't too high it's ok, but then a co-worker (in graphics) said that the 15-inch Intel processor MacBook Pro crashes in After Effects if he tries to render more than 100 frames.
But I tend to think that if it were an absolute no-go, we would be hearing a lot more about it.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but it is, I hope, a couple of thoughts to point you in a direction.
There seem to be similar issues with most non-Apple applications, such as all Adobe products and Autodesk Maya. As far as I know the only non-Apple app that is already universal is, weirdly, QuarkXPress.
So I guess the question, to quote Dirty Harry, is, Do You Feel Lucky?

  • Adobe After Effects Sucks

Adobe After Effects is the worst program I have ever used, I made a car hit effect and everything went smoothly even though it is as slow as a turtle, and then for the second time. SECOND. When I intact saved it, AND rendered it, nothing showed up and nothing was saved, I hate this program more and more every day, and Adobe needs to know how bad their program is. It's Cs4 btw.

The way you're describing After Effects makes it sound like you're not familiar with how to work with the software. If you're pressing spacebar to play back, you're doing it wrong.
How long have you been using AE? Do you measure your experience with AE in hours, days, months, or years?
Thousands upon thousands of people use AE every day without the troubles you are experiencing, so perhaps the problem is on your end somewhere. Let us help you figure it out.
If it's an issue with not understanding the basic functionality (as it sounds), you should start here and not on an advanced effect like a car hit.
If it's an issue with your system, give us some info to help figure out the problem. System specs, exact version number of AE (not CS4, but 9.x.x), format and codec of the footage you're using, what effects you're using, etc. would be very helpful in troubleshooting.
When you say you saved it and yet nothing was saved, what do you mean? Are you saying you hit Ctrl+S or CMD+S or File>Save and tell AE to save a project file somewhere and it doesn't do it?
When you say it's slow as a turtle, what do you mean? In what way? When you click on a menu item, does it take a while to load? When you initiate a RAM preview does it take longer than you expect to create a preview? When you drag UI items, does it take a while to update?
When you say you rendered it, what were your render settings?
On top of all this, you're using a very old version of AE. CS4 is version 9 of After Effects. The current version is 13. Also, CS4 is a 32-bit program. CS5 and later are 64-bit.
If you want help, let us help you. If you don't really want help, feel free to never use AE again. We wouldn't like you to feel frustrated. Besides, the job market is saturated enough as it is.

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 doesn't support PowerPC architecture CPU

As installation of CS4 Master Collection, I notice that there are some applications missing. After Effects as well as a bunch of other applications have the warning "This product does not support PowerPC architecture CPU". This is not good since its really the only piece of software I need.
Here are the specs on my computer:
    processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
    Memory 16 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    Mac OS X version 10.5.4
I spent quite a bit of money on this computer and putting memory into it. Is there nothing I can do? Some sort of inexpensive component I can change or add in order for After Effects to work? Thanks.

Just kind of crummy that since it comes in a bundle, as an option, that the bundle itself doesn't carry some kind of warning or wording about System Requirements.
Well the CS3 Production Premium box does have a warning, so I would presume that the CS4 box does as well. CS3's box says "System Requirements: Multicore Intel processor (Adobe Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, Flash Professional, and After Effects Professional are universal binary and also work on a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor)." So, right there you can tell that Premiere, Soundbooth and Encore don't run on PowerPC in CS3.
I can imagine this happening to other G5 and earlier users.
Why is that? G5 PowerPC code runs on any G5 - so unless you're going to limit it based on CPU clock speed, the earliest G5s wouldn't be giving up anything to the newer ones except for overall speed, obviously.
Doubt it will be in the next upgrade.
I'd agree. At that point, even the newest G5s will be about 5 years old, and it's clear that Adobe is moving towards Intel only support rather quickly.
I wonder if Adobe is allowing customers to pick and choose what versions are in a bundle for the same discount. Swapping new for old, maybe.
Won't happen. Adobe's upgrade policies aren't very generous. Not only are the costs rather steep, but if you're upgrading from the standalone versions to the suite, your upgrade price is based on you owning one of the apps that's part of the suite in the new version. You get no extra credit even if you have all of the suite's apps as standalone versions (e.g. if you have AE, Illustrator, PS, and Flash, it's the same upgrade price as it is if you only owned PS).

  • Adobe After Effects Problems

I edited a sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 with no problems. After I exported it, I checked the movie in Windows media player to make sure everything was okay. In Windows Media Player, the movie played well with audio and video. After that, I imported it into Adobe After Effects. The Movie is 1280x720 60fps. However, after I did a RAM preview of the clip, there was still no audio. I doubled checked the clip outside of After Effects and it played with audio just fine. Is there something wrong with the way I originally exported it or is it a software error? Also, when I imported the movie into After Effects, it played in Slow-motion after RAM preview instead of playing in regular motion. Can someone please help? Thanks.

I think that you're clicking the wrong button and not, in fact, using RAM preview. The Play button in the Preview panel does not start a RAM preview.
See this page for how to do a RAM preview. Pay special attention to the icons that illustrate what buttons to click.

How can i run Adobe After Effects CS5 on my 32-bit computer?

    AznB0i wrote:
How can i run Adobe After Effects CS5 on my 32-bit computer?
You can't.  It's impossible. End of story.
You need to have a computer capable of running a 64-bit operating system like the latest Apple OS 10 -- which cat name are they up to now, Ocelot or something? --- or Windows 7.
Now, when you you get the Creative Suite CS5 installation disks, Adobe thoughtfully includes the previous 32-bit versions of Premiere and AE.  But since you're paying for all those new 64-bit bells & whistles, it does seem a little silly, n'est-ce pas?   It's intended as an intermediate measure.
Go get yourself a new computer and operating system.  And if you can't, put up with what you have.
I personally had to wait 9 months before I could afford a new 64-bit machine.

  • Adobe After Effects CS6 - how to uninstall/reinstall or transfer license to a new computer

My old computer has crashed, and so I built a new one recently. I have been installing all the applications for it, downloading files, so on and so forth. I recently insterted one of the hardrives from my old computer, and was able to see the files I had from my old computer. All of my adobe applications are on there, and I can see them, however; I cannot use them, which is okay, since most of them were free applications that I could download from the website. But Adobe After Effects CS6, which is the application I really need, does not open it; instead, it reads: "Configuration Error: Please uninstall and reinstall the product. Error: 16". I bought the CD for After Effects last summer, but I cannot find it anywhere. I heard you don't need the CD to transfer the license to a new computer, but I can't figure out how to do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since after building my computer, I have absolutely no funds nor interest to buy another After Effects CD.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe After effects better on pc or mac?

adobe after effects run better on a mac or pc?

About the same depending on the specifications of the machine. Both have some issues. This is a question that can easily start an OS war because folks can be very emotional about their OS.
Generally I've had far fewer issues on the Mac side but they have been more OS related than AE related. To be fair I have not worked on a machine with the latest version of the Windows OS installed so I cannot speak to system stability, ease of working on a network, or driver compatibility on Windows 7. I can say that in my shop on the Mac side there have been no OS issues in more than 5 years, no need to reinstall the OS, and only 1 minor issue with an OS upgrade that was fixed in about a half hour by checking the Apple user discussion boards. I can't say that for any Windows machine that I have ever worked with.
I routinely work on a first generation 24" intel iMac that I purchased when it was introduced in 2006. The machine was upgraded to Show Leopard when it was introduced, the hard drive was upgraded to 1.5TB late in 2009 by cloning the original drive not by re-installing the OS. The case has been opened up about every 18 months to remove dust and make sure that everything is clean. The machine is still working just fine today. Adding to my satisfaction with this machine, I treated it like a laptop carrying it around from client to client or from coffee shop to coffee shop in an iLugger case nearly every work day for almost 4 years. Even with all that abuse the display is still nearly perfect (about 2 dead pixels) and the machine runs as well as it did on day one.
All of the shops that I do work for use Macs for all their editing and graphics work. There are only 2 shops that I know of in my area that use Windows machines as their primary platforms. I know that there are many windows users on the forum and that there are many shops that run Windows. Some of them will surely voice their opinion on the reliability and efficiency of their machines.
If I were starting out fresh and had no history with either system reliability would be my first consideration. A couple of wasted days every couple of months fixing OS problems are much more expensive than a few extra minutes of render time on each project because a machine isn't quite as fast. No matter what platform you choose you're going to find folks that are having problems with configuration, the OS, drivers and the compatibility because nothing's perfect.

  • Questions about Adobe After Effects CS5 and CS5.5

I have the Adobe Design Creative Suite CS5 (Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, InDesign CS5, and Fireworks CS5) and was going to order an old copy of After Effects CS5 for my iMac. However when I was about to order on an online store, I notice that there is a CS5 and a CS5.5 version for After Effects. I would like to know which version is better and if I get Adobe After Effects CS5.5 version will I be able to intergrate with CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash?
Alos is there a way for to order a copy of Adobe After Effects CS5(or CS5.5 version) on the Adobe online store? I don't want to order the CS6 version of After Effects because I'm afraid I will not be able to intergrate it with my CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash.

You should get After Effects CS6. There is no reason to be concerned about using After Effects Effects CS6 with Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop CS5.
