  • Doki, one of the biggest Adobe Air for iOS projects, released yesterday

I am proud to present one of the biggest Adobe Air for iOS projects, that was released yesterday. Amazingly, the project completed in less that a year. Doki is a unique modern method of learning the basics of a foreign foreign language without the use of grammar and writing.  Through colourful animated scenarios and characters, Doki brings to life a number of languages through real life situations, humour and interactive exercises. Exclusively designed for the iPad 2, New iPad, and iPhone 4S, Doki teaches five different languages: English, French, German, Iberian Spanish and Latin American Spanish. Each language has two levels: Doki and Doki Further.  Both levels have been designed to teach the basics of these languages so that you can communicate with confidence.  In Doki, a beginner’s level, the learner navigates through 14 chapters or ‘places’ in Doki City, listens and repeats the phrases and then solves simple interactive exercises.  Each chapter is divided into lessons (a total of 51) that present key words and phrases in English and the other languages Doki covers. Doki Further, a more advanced beginner’s level, consists of 9 chapters with 28 lessons that take place in Doki City.
The development of Doki is based entirely on Adobe Air . The result is spectacular. With a development team that consisted of 5 programmers, 2 designers, 3 language specialists, one assistant programmer, plus a team of 4 testers, the gigantic project of 14 apps was completed in less than a year, resulting in very low development costs!
Please visit http://www.dokispeak.com for further details.

    Pretty cool.

  • Anyone else getting adobe AIR error 2032 when trying to download Adobe max companion?

    Hey;
I'm attending max for my first time and am psyched. I've tried downloading the Adobe MAX companian at http://www.max.adobe.com/companion but I keep getting error 2032. I'm wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this problem and if so what can I do to fix it? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Thank you for responding. I found the problem. No it isn't a flash player
issue it is an AIR issue. I didn't know there was an AIR forum. I will post
the answer here instead of duplicating posts. If you are a developer and
have a virtual server on your computer you most likely will run into the AIR
error 2032 when trying to download the MAX companion for the conference
starting tommorow-Wednesday (Monday-Wednesday). You need to either add in a
chunk of code to your server that allows AIR to run or use a different
computer. I used a different computer but I read that someone found the
solution to this error is to add the code to their virtual server. I use
XAMPP, which is a rather popular Virtual Server. Okay well I hope this helps
    anyone in the future.

  • StageWebView crashes Adobe AIR on iOS when assigning it a stage

I'm having a problem with StageWebView on iOS (in Android it works fine). More exactly, It's an iPad app.
I'm loading a dynamic PHP URL with StageWebView's loadURL method, and then I start building Flash interface elements in a left column (the StageWebView browser is in the right column), which works fine, then I wait a couple of seconds for the page to load (with a Timer), and then I finally show the browser to the user with:
    this.webView.stage = this.stage;
The moment I run that line, the whole iOS application crashes and the iPad goes back to its desktop (I suppose that should never happen in Adobe AIR no matter what you do).
But the process is still in memory, since if I double click the iPad physical button, I can see my application icon in the running apps bar (though if I click the icon, the app starts from the beginning, instead of resuming).
Using AIR 2.6. Any ideas on how to solve this crash?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I've checked it, but the differences listed are not relevant in my app, I think.
Yes, I know there is also the "Event.COMPLETE" event, but I can't use that because it only fires after the page is fully loaded, with all its images, and the page I'm trying to load has 200 images or so and takes almost a minute to load, so I can't have the user wait that long. I just want to wait until the HTML has loaded.
Anyway, I've also tried Event.COMPLETE and after the long wait, the app still crashes when trying to show the StageWebView.
I've even tried a complex solution, by using StageWebViewBridge by Pedro Casaubon to communicate with the JavaScript in the page, using JavaScript's "DOMContentLoaded" event, so it fires as soon as the HTML (but not the images) has loaded. That works, but as soon as I make the StageWebView visible by assigning it the stage, AIR crashes!
So, AIR crashes when trying to assign the stage to the StageWebView object in all these three cases:
    - After waiting for AS3 Event.COMPLETE event listener added to loadURL()
    - After waiting for JavaScript "DOMContentLoaded"
    - After waiting for a fixed period of time set with a Timer event
The only way AIR doesn't crash when assigning the stage to StageWebView is NOT waiting at all. That is, running the loadURL function and immediately running the "this.webView.stage = this.stage;" line to show the StageWebView object in the stage. In that case it works, but it shows some ugly white box in the StageWebView area while loading, which I was trying to avoid, plus JavaScript events don't work until the page is loaded.
All those crashes described above are most likely a bug in Adobe AIR, but I don't know how could somebody else reproduce it since it could be caused by anything (the dynamic PHP page I'm loading, the JS code, something in the AS3 code, though I don't think that code has anything out of the ordinary...)
Also, when I test the app with ADL in the PC, everything works as expected. The crashes only happen in the iPad (it's an iPad 2).

  • Adobe Air Cookies Removed When App Closed?

    Hi,
I have a flex app which I would also now like to offer an Air client for. I don't want to create a new authentication system just for the Air app, I just want to use the cookie/session setup that I already have in place.
The cookies work and after logging in to the AIR app I can make subsequent requests without being asked to authenticate again, the problem is that the cookie seems to be deleted when the client is shut down, meaning that when I restart the air client I have to log in again which is obviously not acceptable for my users.
Is this expected behaviour in AIR and if so, what is the work around?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
AIR uses the underlying operating system stack for managing cookies. As such, cookies can be shared between different AIR applications and with browsers that use OS stack (e.g. Internet Explorer on Windows).
From the official documentation as well as my experiments, cookies are preserved between application restarts.
I suspect the application uses session cookies for authentication -- these are meant to be cleared when the browser exits and for a good reason (mostly security). AIR clears session cookies when the application closes, unlike some browsers (e.g. Firefox) that don't always clear them.
From what I can tell, you have 2 choices here:
change the authentication system to not use session cookies anymore -- I strongly suggest *NOT* to do this.
write some code in the application to read/write the credentials from another kind of storage when run in AIR, for instance using the Encrypted Local Store. You could do this by inspecting the value of flash.system.Capabilities.playerType (see http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Capabiliti es.html#playerType ). You would have to write some AIR specific code, but it wouldn't require you to rewrite the authentication system.
    Hope this helps,
    Mihai

  • Adobe Air Crash when try to load video

    Hi,
Recently, I am trying to do an very simple application using Adobe Air that plays video when certain key pressed on keyboard. However, the adobe air crash frequently when it try to load the video. The problem seems to be Adobe Air/ Flash player bug, because when I tried to do the debug, the debug launcher crash. I have tried with both f4v and mp4 format, but the situation is still the same.
I am using up to date Flash builder 4.5 and Adobe Air 2.7.1. Tested on both WinXP and Win7 Home Premium 32bit. Hopes to get your respond as soon as possible. If the problem cannot be solved soon, maybe I have to search for alternative solution to do the project. Thanks.

    Hi Pierre,
Would you mind adding this as a new bug report over at bugbase.adobe.com?  I went to look to see if there was an existing bug already in place but couldn't find one.  If you can, note this thread url in the bug and post back with the bug URL and I'll follow up internally.
In Yue's original bug, he was able to narrow this down to memory leaks in the spark component video display.  He ended up working around it by using the mx video display.
    Thanks,

  • Air Error Message when opening Photoshop

    Hello,
I'm getting an Adobe Air error message when I open Photoshop (on Windows 7 Enterprise 32-Bit), "Adobe Air - The installation of this application is damaged". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the current release of Air, tried reinstalling an older version of Air, tried deleting Air using the Microsft "Fix It" app and then reinstalling Air, tried deleting all instances of Air including manually removing anything in AppData and then reinstalling Air, tried the Air Zapper script that I found in the Adobe Forums and then reinstalling Air, tried uninstalling both Photoshop and Air and reinstalling but everytime I open Photoshop I receive that error message. Even with Air uninstalled I still receive the error message. It does seem to be happening in only one profile though, Photoshop opens fine in other profiles. I'm open to any suggestions...Thank you in Advance!!!

  • Adobe Air for windows

    Hi,
Does anybody know when is the final version of Adobe AIR for Window is releasing
    Thanks

You can get the AIR SDK here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/air/tools/sdk/
The runtime (to run AIR apps) is here:
    http://get.adobe.com/air/
Like most software products, it is only as "final" as the latest release.

  • Installation completes but no Adobe Air

    Hello all,
    I have a laptop running Windows 7.
I have an ongoing problem. I had been running the BBC iPlayer for well over 18 months on this laptop with no issues at all, but following an issue with the BBC iPlayer I uninstalled the iPlayer and managed (eventually) to uninstall Adobe AIR using the Perfect Uninstaller (this was my only option as every time I tried to remove it with the Uninstall a program option I ended up with the Admin error, and the Microsoft fix did not work).
    Anyway, it removed Adobe AIR.
Now when I try to re-install Adobe AIR by either running the Adobe AIR installer direct from the website or by downloading it and running it from the desktop it completes and says Adobe AIR is installed. I can repeat the installation over and over again and they all complete successfully.
The files are placed in the c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AdobeAIR\ folder.  If I look at the AdobeAIR.dll file the size is 13.3MB but in the details tab the entries are all blank - no application, no version number, nothing.
As a result I cannot re-install the iPlayer. If i try and install from the BBC iPlayer Desktop install site that doesn't work either, it says it installs Adobe AIR but I don't get the familiar screen and nothging seems to be installed.
Is there any way I can complete a successful re-install of Adobe AIR?
    Many thanks

I'd try two things,  first Microsoft has just released a new utility that can help resolve installation problems.  Install AIR, then start the MS Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system.  Once finished, download the latest version of AIR and install again.
Microsoft Install and Uninstall Fix It
If you still encounter problems, I'd uninstall AIR, create a new, temporary user account and try installing from there.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • How should an application developer handle Adobe AIR upgrades on Windows and Mac?

    Hi,
My questions concern Windows 7 (and later) and Mac OS X:
Is Adobe AIR upgraded automatically? In other words, by default (if the user does not uncheck something during installation), is there a service/polling mechanism that checks for a new version of Adobe AIR and recommends an update to the user?
What happens if a user has an older version of Adobe AIR installed, and my application requires a more recent Adobe AIR version? Do I, as an application developer, have to do something or is it handled by Adobe AIR automatically?
Have Adobe AIR introduced many backward compatibility issues in the past? Is it possible for a user to have multiple versions of Adobe AIR installed at the same time? Can I, as an application developer, specify that this exact version of Adobe AIR is needed by my application?
If there sometimes are backwards compatibility issues with Adobe AIR. Is there a way for me as an application developer to try out a new version before it is released to the normal users? In other words, is there a way for me to make sure that my application works with the next version of Adobe AIR before it is released by the normal channels to the general user base?
Is there something else which should be taken into consideration when it comes to Adobe AIR upgrades and versioning issues?

Well we would suffer especially much from two of the drawbacks listed at Packaging a captive runtime bundle for desktop computers:
The AIR in-browser API for installing and launching an AIR application from a web page is not supported
AIR update API and framework are not supported
We are using the Air application as a solution for printing, which is invoked using the AIR in-browser API when the user clicks the "Print" button. I would guess the route to make it work with a captive runtime (which was something new to me), which I see as a normal stand alone application, would be to register a specific MIME type with the OS and each Web browser which is handled by our print application. And let a file of our new MIME type contain the information passed in the in-browser invocation at the moment. That would trigger the application when a user clicks Print.
We also use the AIR update API to update our application. Being without it means that we would need to create our own update mechanism.
These two paths to handle the given drawbacks above would mean a lot of work for us. Especially as we want to support both Windows and Mac. It might be worth it if the answers to my questions in the original post indicates that we can expect another type of problems instead.
I am still interested in answers to my original questions. But we will certainly take the captive runtime approach into consideration. As I didn't know about it, I really appreciate your answer!

  • Adobe air apps cannot be installed

    Hi,
I have trouble with my PC to install any kind of adobe air app. When I start to install a Adobe air app, I get the UAC request and I confirm it but then the Adobe Air Application Installer.exe *32 is hanging and doing nothing.
When I repeat the process another Adobe Air Application Installer.exe *32 instance is started.
Here is my equipment and what I tried:
    Equipment:
    Windows 7 professional SP1 64 -Bit
    - Reinstalling Adobe air with Revo Uninstaller(cleaning registry) and installing it new with Admin rights.
    - Installing Adobe air in Windows XP Sp3 mode
    - Multiple apps were tried and when I start them with the SDK, they are working fine.
    - No information are available in the windows eventlogs
Any idea  how to solve it or any possibility to start a debug tool to get more information?
Thank you in advance for any input and help!

    Hi Chris,
    I appreciate your support!
Sadly the Microsoft Install and Uninstall Fix It tool does not work, adobe air is still hanging during the app installation.
This is what I have done:
    1. Uninstall Adobe air with the Microsoft Tool
    2. Install Adobe air new
    3. Try to install the app SmartClient.air -> Did not work
    4. Try to install the app DesktopiPhone.air -> Did not work
Now I have 4 Adobe air instance in the task manager(see screenshot)
