Adobe Air Comments System

Ok so i built a Air export and the commenting system seems to
work fine.... BUT I now want the Air file to be online, so i select
the Air Application and Browser based Help export system. Problem
is that the HTML version that it creates does NOT have comments
built in...
How do i get the commenting system to work on a http page..

Ah thought as much, was expecting too much fo "Adobe must
save some features for the next version" ;)
Its just a shame that Adobe never seem to fully realise
features in a single release but seem to drag it out over a long
period of time and requiring many upgrades to get there... had the
same problem with Captivate (Dreamweaver is the only product this
is not true of - for me anyway).

Adobe AIR fails during install

21.5" intel iMac, 10.6.1, 4GB RAM, CS4 Premium new install - upgrade from CS2.
CS4 successfully installed to laptop.
iMac <easy installation> timed out several times during install, the first time trying to install Adobe AIR. System setup transferred from previous machine, including CS2 apps, settings, etc.
This is a replacement iMac for a defective unit returned 5 days ago. Was able to install CS4 on defective machine minus transfered user info, applications, data. (Prior to return to Apple CS4 was deactivated, SN removed. Subsequent launch of PS into trial mode confirmed.)
After quitting the app installer several times discovered the dialogue box below was hidden by installer box. Clicking "OK" allowed process to continue.
CS4 is now installed and updated, but I don't know which apps the dialogue box was referring to, or if this requires a solution.

I did not find automatic graphics switching, but after several failed attempts of trying to install it, it eventually installed.

Adobe Air is a huge pain in the butt

Updated my Flash to CS5 a week ago, then upgraded to PS CS5 a day or two ago. The programs run great. BUT whenever I try to use any of my Adobe program's Help files under the Help menu, Adobe Air tries to launch and then gives me an error message "Adobe Air This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."
I tried both. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Adobe Air several times with no change. Then I called Adobe tech support and spent a total of an hour on the phone while the tech had me reinstall Air again, then reinstall Photoshop. When I still got the same error message he basically sent me to a link to download an adobe product 'Cleaner" to run, gave me a case number and hightailed it off the phone.
The Cleaner tells me it wants to uninstall any or all of Adobe products (none of which are AIR). ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Arggh!
I have so many other support products installed for AE, PS, etc. that this would take hours.
If you are reading this and you are an Adobe techie, please tell me there is a better solution.
Again, all I need are my Help files to launch when I select them from the adobe program.

TweetDeck/Adobe Air not opening URLs in the browser in x86_64 system.

Hi,
I have managed to setup the last version of the (Adobe Air based) TweetDeck application running in my x86_64 and KDE system. I've gone through all the comments in the AUR entry and installed all the relevant lib32 libraries and such, and it appears to all work fine except for one issue.
When I click on a URL contained in a tweet, nothing happens. It does not open the URL in Firefox as I would expect. Clicking on other items such as the user's ID or the posting date also do nothing. (I should mention that I have i686 ArchLinux running on another machine, and it handles all this with TweetDeck/Air no problems.) Now I suspect this is an Adobe Air issue rather than TweetDeck specific, but that is only my suspicion.
I tried running strace on the app, and I can see that at one point it reads the Firefox profiles.ini and the prefs.js for my profile, so I suspect it is trying to do some sort of silly-buggers instead of just launching the /usr/bin/firefox executable with the URL as an argument.
Any ideas on how I can get this working?

what window manager are you using? I had a similar issue with pidgin not opening links in XFCE4 and was able to fix it... but I suspect yours MAY be a different case.

Questions about System Requirements for Adobe Air programs

     Earlier today I asked someone who runs Tweetdeck if they knew what the system requirements were for running Tweetdeck on my desktop (Windows)

Will me only having a 2.1GHz processor really affect how my performance is with Adobe Air products/apps in general?

Yes- I've had some lower price pc's using an Adobe AIR app and can tell the difference.
Computers where performance was a huge issue was Compaq CQ56 & Toshiba Satellite C655D
These computers are under 2.0 GHz and the app seems to freeze up on occassion or run slower.

Can't Uninstall Adobe AIR From a Mac OS X System

I posted this question on Installation Issues and got no response. It really belongs here.
I started having major trouble with my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.7, after updating Adobe Flash and Air. The system is at a crawl, barely useable. I wanted to uninstall both, as a first step in exploring the problem.
Flash seemed easily uninstalled; there was little improvement, if any.
However, moving on to Adobe Air, I repeatedly ran the Adobe AIR Uninstaller.app Version 1.5.3 that's in my Utilities folder but that invariably opened a screen named "Adobe AIR Setup" that told me:
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I was not trying to install Adobe AIR, but to uninstall it. I was working in an account with Admin privileges.
Can anyone help?

Adobe won't be developing for 10.5.8 new features (including new runtime) only security relates updates for existing runtimes (Flash 10.3.*/Air 2.7.*). Flash 11/Air 3.0 are only supported on 10.6.8.*/10.7.*, see:

What are the System Requirements for Web Server hosting Adobe Air application

Working on a project that is using Adobe Air . The Adobe support site has system requirements for the client side application, but for the server side, what are the system requirements?
Using a Windows server, would expect to have approx. 100 concurrent connections at any given time.

Adobe AIR applications are installed on the end user's computer. They are not hosted on a web server. You can deploy an AIR file, which is the installer file for an AIR application, via your web server.

Anyone know of a free working highscore system for Adobe air iOS?

I used to use Mochi Leaderbords before starting coding Adobe Air games for iPhone and Android. As the Mochi API doesn't have mobile support I had to find something else and found Playtomic. Playtomic is great and easy to use, BUT it's constantly down
My players are complaing on how often the highscore server is down. For me it's like 6/10 times I try to view scores that it doesn't show.

Adobe Air app - sync data with Siebel CRM system?

We want to create a simple application using Flash and Adobe Air. The application will run locally on the user's laptop since the users do not always have access to an internet connection. The user will open the application and fill our a few required fields.
Once the user is able to connection with the internet, the information entered by the user on the local desktop application needs to be written to a remote backend Siebel CRM system. The database in use is Oracle.
Is it possible to write information from a local Abode Air app to a remote db stored on the network?
If so, can you provide details on how this may be accomplished? Is it considered difficult?

You would connect to the Siebel CRM server from an AIR app the same way you would from a browser-hosted Flash application or a general web application. Typically, this would be through a web service.

That's circular reasoning. Without knowing the exact specs of the computer, this is not going anywhere. You could be overlooking something simple.

Deployment of an Adobe AIR application in an enterprise environment

Dear Team members,
first of all my apologies for posting this thread in more than one forum (see Installations Issues) but the argument is very important to us and I don't know where discuss it.
I would like to post a question to you regarding deployment doubts that we are trying to address.
My company is working on the new version of our primary application previously built as a J2EE application with some reporting functions with Flex, and we want to use AIR in order to leverage its possibilities:
Seamless integration with existing application functionalities (implemented as standard JEE web application pages) thanks to the integrated HTML capabilities
Improved integration of the user interface with the desktop
Native processes to provide additional functionalities
Our application is targeted to pharmaceutical industry, subject to FDA regulations, and it affects more than 5000 users for each customer, so we have some specific requirements affecting the deployment and distribution of the software:
Allow to run multiple versions of the software on the same client machine (to support test and acceptance activities in addition to the production environment)
Minimize the effort of the initial setup on each client
Manage the version upgrades without manual activities on each client
Keep the test/acceptance and production environments strictly aligned to improve effectiveness of formal validation (ideally, an application once validated should be transported in production without any source code modification, recompilation or repackaging)
The current browser-based strategy is perfectly fit to these requirements, and in the shift towards a desktop-based strategy we need to continue satisfying them as much as possible. We evaluated the standard distribution strategy of Adobe AIR applications, and noticed several attention points in this scenario.
The first issue we encountered is the back-end services endpoint discovery problem. Simply hardcoding a server URL in the packaged application could be a viable solution for public internet-accessible applications, but we need to support multiple customers in their intranet, and each one typically requires multiple environments for the application (acceptance, production, etc.). Maintaining dozens of different packages of the AIR application to support all these customer environments clearly is not the solution. Neither we want to force thousands of different users to enter and maintain the correct server location in their local preferences.
So, we thought to use a badge hosted in the back-end application to run the local AIR application: using the underlying API, we could activate the application specifying also the network location of the back-end services. We could also rely on the badge to install the application (and the AIR runtime if necessary)… however, application packaged as native installers cannot be installed, upgraded, or launched by the badge API (and we need to package ours as native to use native processes).
We also noticed that multiple versions of an AIR application cannot be installed side-by-side in a client machine, and that the installation and upgrade of the application can be performed only when the local user has administrative rights on the machine (using standard or native packages), forcing us to rely on external software distribution systems in some customer scenarios (introducing additional complexities in the release cycle).
At this point, in our opinion the standard deployment strategies of Adobe AIR applications are unfit for enterprise environments. In the enterprise world, many of the applications have migrated to a completely browser-based solution, while others enhanced their client layer to comply with the requirements, for example installing only a thin portion of the client code and allowing to connect to multiple server versions/environments with it (e.g. the SAP GUI universal client). Without smarter deployment and distribution tools, AIR applications currently are a step back compared to web applications in terms of manageability.
So, we are trying to develop a solution to address these problems, with some concepts similar to JStart: install on the client machine a launcher application capable of being activated from a web page, dynamically locate, download and run the actual client bytecode, transparently enforce client software updates, and supporting multiple applications (and multiple versions of the same application). However, we are facing many technical problems due to internal architecture of AIR and we already spent a considerable amount of effort trying to find a solution. We are now thinking to return on the choice of AIR, going back to Flex.
What is the position of Adobe on this argument? Is Adobe aware of these issues and are there any plans on this topic? Any advice?

RoboHelp Packager for Adobe AIR is now updated. You can
download the new version for FREE from Adobe labs -

It has added a long list of novel features - first time for a HATT.
Now, besides multiple tabs, favorites, commenting and multiple
skins like Multi-Tab Accordion and Uni-pane Help, you have another
set of new features.
Designed for End Customers - Adobe AIR based Help templates
have been designed keeping in view the end customer. They have some
high-end navigation features like Mini TOC, Breadcrumbs, etc. Apart
from these capabilities, the new Adobe AIR based Help also empowers
the end customers to customize the Help. An end customer can set
their own preferences and customize Help as desired.
Compelling Rich Branded Experience- RoboHelp Packager for
Adobe AIR provides a compelling rich user experience. It includes
templates that help authors package the same content into three
completely different styles – Multi-Tab Accordion, Uni-Pane
or the Classic Tri-Pane Help. Apart from this it also helps the
Authors brand the Help as per Corporate Branding Guidelines. It
provides support for the addition of a Company Logo and a Punch
line in the main Help window. Apart from this it also provides an
About Box in the Help that details the version, description,
copyrights, logos etc.
Auto Update -Adobe AIR based Help applications provide an
Auto Update feature using which updates can be pushed to all
installed connected versions of Help. Usually, the Help content
bundled with the application is never updated, while the web
content is updated with current feature enhancements and additional
resources. Adobe AIR based Help provides you with the option to
publish updates for your end users at a common server location. The
Adobe AIR based Help is intelligent enough to check for updates and
prompts users to apply updates when it detects a new version is
available.
Review Workflows / Personalization of Help
Adobe AIR based help files can be configured in such a way
that you can add comments to topics and publish those comments at a
common location. This feature enables a complete review workflow,
whether or not the reviewer is a part of your group/organization.
* Reviewers within your network: Reviewers can publish their
comments to an XML file on a shared folder. They can also
synchronize the comments from other reviewers on the same network.
This enable multiple reviewers to simultaneously view the comments
being made by other reviewers as they review.
* Reviewers outside your network: You can send the .air file
to these reviewers who can then export their comments to an XML
file and send it to you. You can import these comments into your
Adobe AIR application.
Apart from the rewire workflow, the feature is designed to
help an end customer personalize Help by adding comments on the
same. These comments will not be uploaded to the server, however
can be exported to a file and shred with friends over email.
New Classic help Template - A new template called Classic
Help has been added. It is named Classic because it is a Tri-Pane
Help. Apart from that it has got all the power of any other Adobe
AIR based Help template. This template has a new feature called
“How do I” that lists all the browse sequences defined
in the WebHelp. We recommend that authors design their browse
sequences in such a way that they provide complete workflow
information to end customers.
Supports Packaging of Merged WebHelp- RoboHelp Packager for
Adobe AIR now supports merged WebHelp. If an author specifies the
WebHelp folder of a Master project, the Packager is intelligent
enough to detect and convert all referenced projects in the Master
Project. However, one needs to be careful while using this feature.
It doesn’t provide as much flexibility as Merged WebHelp. A
new Package needs to be created every time even when you update any
of the sub projects.
In Beta 2, zoom works flawlessly and search results has been
further improved.

When you are comparing this to Flash, does this comparison
extend to the requirement for each end user to install the Air
runtime on their PCs before they can access our RoboHelp system?
And that they will also get reminders to update to the latest
version of Air runtime?

Adobe Air on XPe (Embedded XP)

I saw a thread from about a year ago and wonder if there is any updates on this topic. Is Adobe Air supported on Embeded XP or Embedded Windows? Just wondering if anything has changed?

Nope,
LabVIEW RT will install instead of XPE. It is an operating system in itself.
