Adobe AIR - Created disk image doesn't open

Hi, I'm trying to create a dmg file and the resulting image file won't open. I'm working on a Mac and it's not the first time that i'm doing this.
The error message I get when I open the disk image is "Following disk image could not be opened " and the reason "not recognized".
It's really weird, because it used to work and now for some reason stopped. First I thought it could be, because I compiled against the new SDK 4.0, but then I tested it with older SDKs like 3.5, 3.8 and 3.9 and the problem persists. Older projects which also worked fine are no more building disk images.
My system was 10.8 and I thought the problem could go away if I install the new Mavericks, but after upgrading the problem is still there.
Repairing disk and file permissions didn't also help.
Has anyone some idea what it could be? I'm really at the end of my knowledge.
Thank you very much,
Solano

Ok people, finally found the problem. I'm using FDT and for some reason FDT stopped to append the flag -target native when compiling a native installer. I think that some FDT update introduced this bug.

  • What's the best way to create disk images?

of 300GB  hard drives or partitions?
Disk utility is failing for me with an input/output error.
    A typical example:
    I have a new HFS+ 500GB external FW 800 drive that I am using a destination.
I will boot from my original 'install' DVD and then open up disk utility to start the disk image creation.
Note: my source is my "Macintosh HD" partition that is around 300GB.
Everything looks like it is running well, then a couple hours into it, it fails... something like:
"cannot create img.. blah input/output error".
Note: Verify Disk shows no errors on the source.
One guess is that the img creation process is failing after I leave the computer and perhaps my computer falls asleep. I tried setting the 'Energy Saver' prefs in the systems prefs, but of course, since I'm running off the install DVD, I wasn't able to get into the prefs.
Anyway, ultimately, I need to create periodic disk images of my macs.. so what are people using to do this?
    Thanks for the comments!
    Donovan

Eric, Carbon Copy Cloner is what I was leaning towards. The owner says his guess is that there are bad blocks on my HD, and since Disk Utility is block based, that it is failing where CCC is file based, and will just skip files that are corrupted or that it can't copy.
I guess I'll roll with that for now.. but it would be nice if the Disk Utility logs spit out a more descriptive log.. instead of "could not create disk image, input/output error".
    Thanks!

  • Cannot create disk image iDvd 7.1.2 (multiplex error)

I'm at my wits end and extremely disappointed.
Basically, I've gone through the threads that I can find, I'm down to importing a basic movie directly into iDvd.  No menus.  No options enabled (that I'm aware of).
When I go through the iDvd process of creating a disk image all goes smoothy until the very end when I get a multiplexor error (no error code or text saying why).
Extremely frustrating.  This is on a new Macbook Pro running 10.7.2.  I don't have problems with my other Apple systems, just this new one.  Perhaps Apple would like to take it back??

    Hi
    Multiplexing Error
Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) -
one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

as described by Donnyboy69.  Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.

Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

(Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.
    One user more writes
To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

I use three Macs with Mountain Lion, and this problem occurs only on one of the three.
I check the disk, repair permissions and did a reset of the PRAM. I even did a reinstall of Mountain Lion, without success.
But curiously, using a new user account, I was able to create a first disk image. But no one after.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.

  • Disk Utility Error 61 when attempting to create disk image on external driv

I would like to make occasional archive backups of my three macintosh computers. I bought a new Western Digital 2TB drive for this purpose, and formatted it as Mac OS Extended. Trying to do a disk image backup using Disk Utility, I follow the directions:
    - Startup from an install DVD.
    - Start Disk Utilities and select "Restore"
    - Drag "Macintosh HD" into the Source box
    - Click on "New Image" and select compressed and 128-bit AES encryption
This leads to the error message: Unable to create "....." (error -61)
I have enocountered this problem both with my iMac G5 and a MacBook, both running Leopard.
Does anyone know what this error means, what I am doing wrong, and/or if there is another way to create disk image backups? Help!

    1. For reasons I don't know disc images seem to become more fragile the larger they get. They also can be subject to file corruption that affects the entire disc image, whereas file corruption on a clone would only affect certain files.
    2. You cannot put multiple clones on the same volume. Each clone must be on a separate volume, but you can have multiple volumes on a single drive simply by partitioning the drive accordingly. Of course you need a drive large enough to accommodate each clone. Each clone should be to a space equal to the capacity of the cloned drive.
    3. I'm not a big fan of TM, although I must confess it has become more reliable since it's release, especially with Snow Leopard. However, there are many backup utilities that can create clones, perform incremental updates, and archive changed files. See the following:

  • Can't create disk image of external disk

I just switched from a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.4, to a MacBook Pro running 10.5. I'm trying to create a disk image of the old machine's hard disk, as a backup. Before doing this, I ran Disk Utility to make sure none of my disks were in need of repair.
I started up the old machine in Target Disk mode and connected it to the new one. In Disk Utility, I selected the disk, and clicked Create Disk Image. I told it to save the disk image as uncompressed and writable, on a disk that has plenty of space. So it chugs along for about an hour, creating an 80GB image.
Then once the image is done, I try to mount it and get an error, saying that the disk image has no mountable file systems. I've done this four times already, each time with the same result. In addition, if I try to restart after creating the image, the system hangs.
Any ideas why this might be happening? Are there any known bugs with Disk Utility in Leopard? Interestingly, I tried to do the same thing with Carbon Copy Cloner, and ran into a different error (it thought that it couldn't mount the newly-created image).

Yesterday I bought a Maxtor Basic external harddrive for my mac.
Followed the instructions, using Disk Utility, formatted the hd, then I tried to create a 60 gb blank encrypted disk image but failed twice; after clicking 'Create', Disk Utility does not prompt to create a password.
First time Disk Utility just hangs; there's no respond for 30mins, so i force quit it and reformatted the drive, again.
Then I tried to create a 10mb encrypted disk image and the box appears to enter a password, so I presume it was working fine.
Again, I tired to create the 60gb blank image. This time, i left it overnight, thinking maybe it just takes a longer time. No prompt for passwords, and in the morning, the msg I got was 'No drive found' or something like that, because the drive has ejected itself. (???)
Anyone has any idea why? I could create the image on my mac and throw it in the external drive, but my mac onlyhas 15 gb of space.
Let me know if this sounds like a problem with the Maxtor so I could exchange it ASAP.

  • Double click launches photoshop CS6 but image doesn't open

Since installing CS6 about a month ago, when I double-click on an image and PS is closed, PS will launch but the image doesn't open.
If PS is already open, double-clicking works properly.
This was an upgrade install and I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.
    Thanks,

FYI, this problem was caused by an Extensis plug-in error window. I moved the plugin so Photoshop wouldn't try to load it and everything is working properly now.

  • Creating Disk Image Freezes

I'm attempting to do a full backup of my boot drive to an external hard drive using Disk Utility to create a disk image.  For some reason, it always gets to a certain point, and then locks up.  This morning when I came into the office, it was locked up on the task "Adding Resources".  I've successfully created disk images of other workstations on this hard drive, but for some reason have been unsuccessful with my main workstation.
Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening?  Does Carbon Copy Cloner create a full disk image just as good as Disk Utility?  I find it odd that I don't have to unmount the disk that CCC is creating a disk image from.  Thoughts?
    Thanks
    Dave

It is also able to create a disk image.  I have multiple .dmg backups of all my workstations on one HD.  I would need to reformat that drive in order to clone, because I need to create a partition for each workstation I back up.

  • Lost All SD Card Data Via Create "Disk Image" - Any Hope To Recover?

    Hi All,
Hope this is the right place to post - I run Snow Leopard on a June 210 2.66 i7 UMBP. Please forgive my very limited knowledge but I was following instructions on how to create a "Disk Image" of a SDHC Card to preserver exact data so as to enable easy import of Full HD 60FPS AVCHD/.MTS stuff shot on a Sony DSC-HX9V Camera. (Sony PS Video Mode)
I am basically "Monkey See. Monkey Do" & was having a nightmare trying to figure out why I could not transfer the stuff on the SD Card to iMovie 11/ iMovie HD. I read lots of threads here & elsewhere & the advice seemed to be to make a "Disk Image" of the SD Card via Disk Utility & then import into iMovie from there. I found the following online instructions:
    http://blog.scoopz.com/2008/10/13/ba...to-disk-image/
I followed the exact instructions to the letter but kept getting error messages a few times & the process would not complete. On the last occasion (4th), the process completed very quickly & a "Disk Image was created on my desktop. I noticed that it said that there was pretty much 16GB free out of the 16GB capacity of the card & when I opened it, all I found were folder icons & garbled descriptions with some strange files - The SAME was true of the stuff on the SD Card which I was desperately trying to back up & save. The Card was full of Data when I inserted it.
All the photos & videos in all folders are now missing/gone & I do not know why. I am desperately hoping there might be some way I can get all the stuff back - is there any hope? What, as someone of very limited understanding of these things, do to recover the stuff on the SD Card if at all possible? I have enclosed some pics so you can see what I see. What happened here - where did all my stuff go?
    Many Kind Thanks!

You were on the right track, but now the disk free space doesn't give me much hope you'll recover anything.   The .MTS files are in fact the video files:
    http://www.etinysoft.com/
Total Video Converter can convert these files to MPEG-4 that iMovie, iTunes, iPhone, and iPod can use. First double check that there aren't any .MTS files left with http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/ And if it can't find any, use one of these data recovery tools:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
Once you have it, then you can use Total Video Converter to get it to a format you can use. I have a Sony DSC-HX-100V and it makes the same sort video files.

  • Creating Disk Images for viewing on a PC

I created a data dvd of information for work on my iMac by dragging the folders that I needed onto the DVD.  I then burned it in my super drive.  I put the completed DVD into a pc and navigated through the files.
I created an image file (dmg and cdr) of the DVD on my iMac for future use in case someone else wanted a copy of the information.
When I burn the dmg or cdr image to a DVD, I can navigate through it with my iMac without any problems but when I put DVD into a PC, the PC says that it is a blank disk.
I guess my question is, how do I create an image so that I can burn it and use it on either a mac or a pc?

I created the image from a disk.  I put the DVD I wanted to image in the super drive, opened Disk Utility, selected the DVD from the left side of the Disk Utility window.  I then went to the menu:  File - New - Disk Image From <Name of the DVD>.  I tried to use different image formats (Read/Write, DVD/CD Master).
When I went to copy the dmg file, I selected it and then Burned it.  It is readable in my iMac but not on a PC.

  • Adobe AIR 1.5.1: issue on opening encrypted DB

    Hi all,
I got a sqlite DB that's encrypted using sqlite3 command line tool:
    sqlite3.exe -key test123Test test.db
I able to do this encryption because I bought the SEE license.
And I did test that the encryption does work, I could not view the DB content directly using the DB Admin Tool I have but I could view the content using the sqlite3 command line tool.
I believe the reason why my DB Admin Tool couldn't work because it doesn't have the SEE license.
Anyway, I tried to open this with ADOBE AIR and I did make sure passing the encryption key as part of the argument.
But what I got is an error msg:
Error message: Error #3125: Unable to open the database file.
Details: An encryption key cannot be specified when the database is not encrypted.
So this brings me to this question:
    - What kind of SQLite encryption does ADOBE AIR really supports?
    - Does ADOBE have SEE license?
    Please enlighten me.

  • Encrypted disk images aren't opening

I recently got this Core2Duo iMac, installed Snow Leopard, then migrated all my users and settings over from my G4 PB running Leopard. Since then I've found that my encrypted dmg's (in a Dropbox folder) won't open - I enter what I know to be the correct password but the password dialogue box just keeps reappearing as if the password is wrong.
I've noticed this is now also the case with the same folders on the G4. However, I managed to open them eventually on the G4 and copied the unencrypted folders onto a memory stick. On the iMac I used SL's Disk Utility to create new encrypted dmg's from the folders on the memory stick, and wrote them to the stick.
All seemed to go well (this time I encrypted them with "Save password to Keychain"). However, when I tried to open the dmg's on the memory stick, the same thing happened! The password box wouldn't dismiss. This time I checked in Keychain Utility, and I was definitely entering the correct password.
    What's gone wrong?

  • Downloading programs creates disk image on desktop...

When I downloaded Picasa (and Skype) from the web, it created a disk image instead of just installing the program.  When I try to open it from the disk image, it says it is from an unidentified developer and asks for permission to open it.  Is there a way to get this to install the program like others?

You should be happy to get a dialog asking for permission and your password - with all the malware all over the internet, it is much safer that way.
Most of the time, you will get a .dmg and you will need to authorize the install - another safety feature.
Now, a new feature of ML is that safety net of any application that does not come from the app store or the developer has not yet signed with Apple that his apps are ok, you will get that dialog. You can turn it off by going to the Security & Privacy Pane in System Preferences > General > and check "anywhere" (you must click the lock and enter your password first). Or, you can leave the default setting, and when you click to open a downloaded app, hit the Control key while clicking to open and you will get a regular "open" dialog.

I have two problems. I created a sparse disk image of my documents folder and encrypted it but recently when I select it and double click it to open it up nothing happens. I put in my password and in the finder window it shows the image but no documents folder will open up.
I ran disk utility and disk warrior and all is okay on my hard drive. I did burn a CD of the files in this folder so I do have a backup but wondered why it will not open up now, any suggestions?
The second problem is in this same folder, I created a word document years ago when I had my old G3 iMac and used at times MS Word 2000. At the time, I locked this Word document, and now it is encrypted and it won't open up. I can't remember the password used back in 2000 and so this document is encrypted and I don't know how to decrypt it, any suggestions.
I do know there are software programs to delete passwords in MS Word and that they will decrypt my document, but the ones I try to download won't work. Any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    DaisyMay

A follow up to my MS word document. I found that I created the file in MS word 2000, and I used the Apple File Security for OS 9 to encrypt it. I can't remember the password, and I do not find anything in the key chain listing.
I have Pages 08, but I don't think I can use it if I can't remember the password to unlock this old document. Is there a program to decrypt this without a password?
    Thanks,
    DaisyMay
