Adobe Air refuses to install OS X 10.6
I've been trying for the past hour or so to find a way to install Adobe AIR on my MacBook Pro. As it begins to install, it gives me an error stating that "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
Thing is, I am the administrator as this is the only account on my laptop.
I've tried looking for answers in previous discussions, but they were all unable to fix this issue. There is no uninstaller in the /applications/utilities directory (probably because AIR was never installed in the first place?), so I'm unsure of what to do next...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can you provide the contents of your log file? You can locate it using the following steps:
Open the console application (/Applications/Utilities/Console).
Choose system.log from the Log List.
Note: You can also find the file /private/var/log/system.log

Well, I asked myself and verified that I am allowed to install any programs I wish to at will.
I even toyed with adding extra permissions for the .exe and shortcut [see below], to no avail.
I also checked your Adobe AIR installation troubleshooter section before posting. Unfortunately, none of the solutions 100% applied to my circumstances or OS, yet I tried a few anyway and had it confirmed by a Windows dialogue that I need not have bothered as it assured me that they weren't applicable in my case.
I found another thread like mine where somebody suggested creating a shortcut with an additional -uninstall parameter added to the .exe path. It didn't work.
I used Microsoft's Installation Cleanup Utility and that didn't work to "un-confuse" the installer either.
Do you have any more suggestions?
Adobe AIR came with the HTC Sync program for my phone, which appears to have dependencies on it where it won't completely work without it.

I created a new thread because I couldn't find the "reply" button on a similarly unresolved thread regarding Adobe AIR installation issues on Windows 7.I would like to say thanks to artrose54 and to playswithtech for their thoughtful responses to my problem. I finally figured out which number I was to delete, and then, having made a copy of the number in notepad, deleted it. Upon a restart to my computer I then was able to download adobe air 2.7. I found that I still could not download the shutterfly express uploader, however; so I applied the same approach. I went looking for the number in the registry that corresponded to the uploader. I deleted it; restarted the computer; returned to shutterfly; and then was able to download the express uploader. I am sure I will find other uses for Adobe Air in the future.

Here is the fix that worked for me,
You need to go to start run and type in regedit
now press ctrl+f for find and type in "adobe air" without the quotes then click find next
the first entry it finds is the one I deleted, it is a long number on left side of screen that is greyed just right click and delete it
I then rebooted the computer and ran adobe air installation
and it worked with out a problem
The adobe air log file really doesn't tell u anything but where it tried to find the setup.msi file
but it doesn't exist because of the registry entry that needs to be deleted which is what causes the error
If u r not sure of editing the registry then maybe you know someone that can help you

HELP! - Can't update Adobe Air Apps - Application Install Error
I have several Adobe Air Apps on my Mac OSX (10.9.4) MackBook Pro. They won't update due to the following Install Error.
"The application cannot be installed due to a certificate problem. The certificate does not match the installed application certificate, does not support application upgrades, or is invalid. Please contact the application author."
Following the above instructions, I've been contacting the authors of my Adobe Air Apps and they are telling me that it is not their problem. The Apps should simply update without difficulty.
I searched the "Google" and found no fix other than uninstall and reinstall Adobe Air. Did this and the problem persists.
If you can help me get beyond this issue and back to productivity, I'd be very appreciative.

DavidI had a similar problem when trying to install Zinio.air. I have made it all work out. What i did was remove Adobe Air 15 entirely from the Utiliites and Library/ accounts and preferences. I then downloaded Adobe Air 13 and installed and then clicked on Zinio .air and it all installed ok. I also had to temporarily change security settings from Apple approved to Anywhere. All functioning now.

Here is what my system administrator wrote:
1. Right-Click on the installer, clicked 'Show Package
Contents' and attempted to install from the MasOS folder. This
provided an interesting error in the terminal window, however still
did not install.
2. From there, I opened 'Console' (found in Applications
--> Utilities) and dug through the install error logs. Pinned
the issue down to AIR trying to update / use files that were
already in use.
3. Restarted the computer under the primary admin account
(the account used to setup the computer) and installed successfully
from there. -
Adobe Aire will not install? I am new to this site and I have never seen one more difficult to navigate ! Every time I click I get asked to subscribe to something else it seems. What a bunch of hucksters !!

I got my self a project which i need to use on the emulator.
But every time i publish my flash project to the emulator, i get an error saying
"This Application requires Adobe Air to be installed" eventho i do have Adobe Air installed & updated
In case it matters i have the Runtime_Emulator_Froyo_20100930 installed and i use Vista SP1.
Hopefully somebody can help me out here
Thanks in advanceNo No, Sorry aha I installed Windows 8, which was fine. I didnt like it much so I tried doing a system restore assuming I could just go back to Windows 7 (What my friend told me). I found out eventually I couldnt obviously, but before I found out I figured the "Reset Your PC" option would be like a system restore and would go back to Windows 7. All my Programmes got deleted, which I was fine about so I just went to go install them again but Photoshop is telling me I cant install it due to not having the system requirements. But the only requirement I believe I dont have is Windows 7, but like I said before... I've seen others with Windows 8 having Photoshop..
A system Image Backup, nope.. I dont. My friend told me that it was just a trial and I would go back to Windows 7 once the trial is up. (I should do my own research in future)
I hope this was clear enough, again it's pretty late and I'm just stressed over loosing everything. Thank you for getting back to me so soon also - Any other tips on how to maybe get it? I dont think I have any traces of Adobe left since all my programmes got deleted, the only other thing I have is Adobe Flash. -

If you're still having problems installing AIR can you try the following steps:
1. Uninstall the AIR runtime
2. Delete all left over AIR directories and files. This includes the following directories:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe AIR
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\AIR
3. Install AIR 2.5.1 again

Use Firefox. Have BBC iPlayer which will not load, saying I need a newer version of Adobe Air: when trying to instal Adobe Air, get message saying I already have a more recent version. It worked when I was using IE, but not since changing to Firefox.

stumbled on this conversation after having problems myself.
After lots of trial and error, I was finally able to install iPlayer on my MacBook Pro.
Firstly remove Adobe Air (Applications, Utilities, Adobe Air Uninstaller).
Reboot (not sure if it is needed but it is what I did).
Download Adobe Air 2.5 from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85304.html
Then retry installing iPlayer from the BBC webpage. I ignored the prompt from Adobe Air to upgrade to the latest version (3.1). -
Adobe AIR will not install on Windows 7 sp1
I have had AIR running under Vista 64 bit with no problems. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate sp1. Ever since then I have received an error message. I have tried many different things mentioned on the forum. I even tried installing as Administrator. I need some help if anyone has had a similar problem and resolved the issue. Thanks Glen

I understand the frustration, believe me, I really do. Unfortunately, while we do thoroughly test installers we do run into system specific issues from time to time. I do my best to help users, going out of my way to do desktop sharing sessions (at all times of the day and night to accomidate our global user base), creating repair scripts, etc. But you are correct, sometimes it does get technical and we do require the installer log to figure out what might be failing. I apologize if I wasn't able to solve your problem in the past, if you can point me to a post where I didn't follow through I'd be happy to re-read it and see if we can make progress.
I promise I won't remove your post, I just ask that you keep the responses polite and try not to get personal.

Adobe AIR is not installing on my LSC
I installed the correct version of Adobe AIR base on this link http://get.adobe.com/air/ vesrion 15. This version should fix the problem but I still get the same problem.
The installation of Adobe AIR has failed. Now exiting the setup.
Can some one help me as to what I need to do?

I am having trouble running the packaged adobe Air installer (downloaded from http://get.adobe.com/air). The .dmg image mounts fine, then when I double-click or select the package nothing runs. I even tried to run the installer inside the package (from the gui and a shell) and nothing executes. I get no error messages either.
I recently upgraded from OS X 10.3 to 10.4.11, and have tried all I can find on the web.
A summary of what I've tried:
- checked file permissions
- run installer as administrator (every time)
- downloaded the package several times and from several locations(adobe.com, cnet.com)
- tried to run the installer on a terminal using sudo command
- followed this similar thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2024084) and tried everything on it (repair disk permissions with disk util, create new admin account to install - couldn't install it there either)
- There are no packages in /Library/Receipts,
- Nothing inside Applications, nothing inside Applications/Utilities
- Also tried this fix with no positive outcome http://andrewapeterson.com/2008/08/os-x-adobe-air-installation-problem-solved/
Please help if someone has any other knowledge!

Adobe AIR won't install on Windows 7 64bit
When I turn on this new HP laptop Intel i7 running Windows 7 64 bit I receive an error message that I need to download Adobe AIR. When I attemtp to I receive an error message "Sorry, an error has occurred. An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator." I have turned off Norton anti-virus software, turned off User Account Controls. turned back User Account Controls, made myself Administrator all to no avail.
