Adobe Album versus iphoto organizing

I may be crazy, but I cannot figure this out...I have been using Photoshop Album on my PC. In Album, you can view/sort your photos by the folder they are in - meaning, when I uploaded my images to my PC using my Canon camera software, it put the images into folders based on the date the images were taken. So even if I took only one image on one day, that image would be in a seperate folder in "My Documents" and I could see that folder and that image on the Adobe Album viewer.
With iphoto, when I upload my images using my CF card, the images get put into an iphoto roll which is dated the date I uploaded the photos. So even if I have photos taken on from the 1st to the 12th, and upload them on the 14th, all the images are put in a roll titled "14th".
Is there a way to view my images based on the date I took those images - seperated by "folders" - i.e. not all batched together in the library view? Can I view my photos like they are sorted in the Finder - if you look in Pictures-iphoto library-2006-01...the folders listed are by the day the images were taken. Can I get this type of view in iphoto?? Am I making myself clear here??
Thanks!

Lightroom has no awareness of the existence of iPhoto. There is no way that it can recognise the iPhoto Library or any of the work you have done in it - albums, keywords etc. To move files or photos between the two you will need to export from one and import to the other.
Aperture recognises the iPhoto Library and there is a command there to facilitate migration from iPhoto to Aperture. This process captures your Events, Albums, keywords and so forth.
Also, with the Aperture -> Show iPhoto Library command you can import individual photos over to Aperture.
From iPhoto the Show Aperture Library command means you can access the Previews in your Aperture Library.
At heart, these three applications do the same job. Aperture and Lightroom are firmly focussed on the Pro user shooting high volumes of RAW. They both offer distinct advantages over iPhoto in processing RAW, no matter what the volume.
What iPhoto can offer both of these are - very simple books, calendars and so on and much better slideshows options.

  • Organizing Albums in iPhoto on the iPad/iPhone

I have an iPad Air and an iPhone 5, and prefer to have my photos arranged by Albums, Not "events"  But in iPhoto on these, when I look at the album view it arranges the albums alphabetically, whereas I want to  have them arranged by topic - the topic organization I choose.
I edit and create the albums in iPhoto on my Mac, and have them organized the way I want there.  Why doesn't it keep that arrangement of the albums?  I can't find out any way to rearrange them the way I want them.
Why can't we organize things the way we want?
By the way, it is much easier to edit and organize o nthe mac, with its bigger screen and extra screens.
Also, is there a way to have Photos, or iPhoto (on the iPad & iPhone) access the keywords and titles I have given them in iPhoto on the Mac?
    Thanks

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • PS Album to iPhoto importing -- keeping keywords?

I have decided to move from PC to mac and I am trying to move a couple of hundred photos from Adobe Album on my old PC to iPhoto on the mac. All of my photos had keyword/tags in Album. Is there a way to transfer these keywords to iPhoto?
I was planning on using a backup of my Adobe album to move the files but now I am wondering if there is a better way. I would appreciate any info you can send my way. Thanks!

I tried to drag the entire album, buy it opens, and only shows part of the pictures that are in that album in iPhoto. It appears that iMovie media can only see the jpeg pictures, not the ones that I saved in photoshop format. Thank you.

  • Difference between a folder and an album in iPhoto?

I've been creating new photo albums in iPhoto and I'm wondering when does one use a folder?
    Thanks!

    Hi John,
Folders are a very useful way of organizing your albums into groups. For example, you may have a number of albums relating to birthdays or weddings. Create folders for each of these topics and drag the albums to the respective folders. Similar for holidays or visits. It's a great way to keep everything organised and cuts down on the list of items appearing in the Source column in iPhoto.
Once you've created your folders and allocated albums to them, you will notice a small triangle to the left of the folder name. Just click the triangle to disclose a list of albums within that folder, then click on the album to reveal all the photos in that album. Another useful feature - clicking on the folder name will reveal ALL the pics contained in all the albums within that folder. Clicking on the triangle again will close up the list.

  • Getting Albums to iPhoto

    Hi guys,
I want to restore my iPhone to new, but one thing I can't live without is the organization of the albums I already have in there.  I know I can just backup the phone, restore it and then restore from the backup, but I don't want to do that.  I just want to be able to get all of my albums into iPhoto.  I also know that I can get all the photos off the camera roll and then just create albums.  I have way too many pictures to go through and do all of that, though.  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to just get the photos off, into iPhoto, and be organized by the albums I have them organized in on the iPhone.  Also want to be sure to be able to get all of my notes off and resync those.
The thing is, I have 11gb of space that is being taken up by "Other".  From what I've read, the only way to fix this problem, is to completely restore the phone to new.  I've tried restoring it to new and then restoring to the backup, but I still end up with the 11gb being taken up.  Pretty crazy.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

sync the photos on iPhoto and it will be automatically arranged in albums. Restore as new and the 11gb of other will be gone, then resync the photos to your phone again.

I am trying to copy 3 photos from an album in iPhoto to my iPhone. I have tried to move them to PhotoStream. I "select" the photos in the Album and then click on PhotoStream in the "Share" menu at the bottom of the screen. Nothing happens.  I have also tried emailing them tyo myself but iPhoto won't send the email. It tells me it doesn't recognize my ID and password. My operating is Lion on an iMac.

Thank you for responding to my question, above, this morning. And thank you for the link about PhotoStream. It was helpful in understanding how Photostream works, but, unfortunately, doesn't really reference my problem since it assumes that the photos were originated on one of my  Apple devices. The photos I want to copy to my iPhone are in an album on iPhoto but I had originally downloaded them from my camera to my iMac then moved them to the album. The confusing thing for me is that they are 3 of a dozen photos takern over a period of 12 years on different digital cameras (two were taken on film and later scanned and eventually moved to the album in iPhoto) and all but three of the photos moved to photostream and are on my iPhone. It is those three, which were all taken on digital cameras and moved to the album, which I can't get to move to Photostream.

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

How do I import or move multiple selected photos to an existing album in iPhoto 9.6? In previous versions I could select and drag multiple photos into an album. Now I can only move one photo at a time. Help!

    Try this general troubleshooting procedure:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Seven of my albums from iPhoto 9.5.1 are no longer visible. The photos are still in iPhoto - is there a way to get the metadata back?

Seven of my albums from iPhoto 9.5.1 are no longer visible. The photos are still visible in iPhoto, but the albums are completely gone (another 10  albums are still visible). The missing albums are visible in iPhoto Library Manager (I downloaded the free version and when it loaded the library the missing albums were visible)
About 6 months ago 4 different albums disappeared and I assumed my kids had accidentally deleted them; however, they haven't been allowed to touch the computer since then, so I can't blame them this time! Last time I lost albums I spent hours re-creating them but I am hoping that there is an easier way of getting the metadata to function again - I know I could create a new library with iphoto Library Manager but I would have to buy the full version and can't afford to do that.
Not sure if it has anything to do with updating the application? (I updated recently and I'm not sure exactly when the albums disappeared.

Use the rebuild function in iPhoto Library Manager. That does not require a purchase. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    You can't.
And advertising that you are breaking the rules with your account here in public just alerts Apple that they have a user who believes that the rules don't apply to them.

Hi, I have this problem too, it is SO frustrating and makes me never want to use iPhoto again! I live abroad and want to send a photo album to Canada but my credit card billing address is in the US and apparently shipping and billing addresses must match. I have already spent DAYS and DAYS making the album. There must be another company that allows shipping to Canada with a US credit card. Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • How do I split my albums in iPhoto, so not albums to bee seen, only 1?

How do I split, or seperate, my albums in iPhoto, so not all albums can be seen at once?? This, if I send the link to someone, about +one specific album+.
Some albums are for other eyes only.......
Now, it seems, that everybody can see ALL the albums, after they have received the link for just 1 album.....
    Help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you're referring to MobileMe albums created from iPhoto bring up the Info window while viewing the gallery and click on the Change Settings button.
Next check the Hide album on my gallery page checkbox and set the Album Viewable by: to Everyone. Now you can send the URL for the gallery to visitors and when they go to the gallery they will not see the other albums.
This will give you a galley like this one: Space Station Photos. It's isolated from the other albums in my gallery.

  • How do i get my iPhone photo albums to iPhoto albums

i am trying to make albums in my iphoto that look like my photos app on my i phone and i would like to know how to do that

You can create albums in iPhoto on your Mac by selecting photos and using the command "File > New Album".
What features exactly from your Photos.app do you want to simulate in iPhoto on your Mac?
iPhoto on the Mac does not have the "Moments" view with the date and the location.  But the "Events" view will show you the date and the map, when you select an event and click the "info" button.

  • HT4236 I've run out of room on my hard drive. I bought an external drive and exported all my albums to the external drive then deleted the albums from iPhoto. I want to sync both from my ext drive and new albums in iPhoto. No dice. Help!

I've run out of room on my hard drive. I bought an external drive and exported all my albums to the external drive then deleted the albums from iPhoto. I want to sync both from my ext drive and new albums in iPhoto. My photos on the devices get wiped out when I sync to iPhoto since I deleted all the albums. But when I sync to my hard drive (where I maintained the album structure) the photos are copied to my iPad but lose all the hierarchy and folder structure. Now I have to scroll through thousands of photos to try to find the one I'm looking for. Before I sync any more devices I want to know the following: 1) can I restore the album structure on my iPad by using the photo cache? 2) is there a way to sync both new iPhoto albums AND pictures in the folders in my hard drive? And 3) how can I keep the photo hierarchy structure from my hard drive intact on my devices?

    Don't do that.
Copy /Photos/Photo library/ to the external.
    Hold Option and launch iPhoto.
Select Choose library and select the Photo library you copied to the external.

  • Cannot access shared photo album in iPhoto 9.4.3 on mac

I cannot access a shared photo album in iPhoto 9.4.3.  The directions in help tell me to go to iPhoto preferences > photo stream, and check the box next to "select the shared photo stream checkbox".  There is no such option in my version.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

I cannot access a shared photo album in iPhoto 9.4.3
Is this a shared photo album from iPhoto on a mobile device or a Shared Photo Stream?
If a shared Photo Stream you should have this preference pane in iPhoto 9.4.3:
Check the boxes as shown in this screenshot and then go to the Photo Stream section in iPhoto and see if they appear.
