Adobe apps freeze when opening help file

When I click help in the help menu, the PDF opens right away, but then Premiere freezes for about 40 seconds. I suspect it is trying to download some Internet content, but this behavior needs to be fixed. My Mac Pro is connected to an AirPort Extreme via wifi, but this network is not connected to the Internet, it's just for internal file transfers. If I turn off the computer's wifi, this problem does not happen. I get the same symptoms with Premiere, After Effects, an Media Encoder. All of the help PDFs are downloaded already and show current in Adobe Help.

Hello There,
I have the most current version on Illustrator CS6. When opening files, any file, it freezing and I have to force quit the application. I have deleted the pref file with some luck, it will only work for a short time. I have held shift+cmd+opt and this too will work 1 in 10 time. I've uninstalled illustrator multiple times. no progress. I need a fix not a band-aid. I am on a mac running OS X 10.8.3. Is this a known issue? I have a co-working having the same issues.

I have removing every one that I have and nothing has worked thus far.
I deleted Vector Scribe Studio, FontExplorererX and that is all I had... still nothing.
What did you remove and/or update?

Apps freeze when selecting a file

Freezing is not quite correct but I experienced in a few apps (CB and BeBuzz) the following behaviour :
When I select a file from the device / SD card (in CB to attach a pic or in BeBuzz to select a notification sound), the app get stuck in the file selection. I cannot select a file, I cannot switch the folder nor can I close the file selection screen.
When I reboot the device everything is fine... for a short time.
Has anybody experienced this as well?
I'm running 10.2.1.2102

Do you get the same freeze or pause if the file is selected whether from the Device memory or the SD Media card?

Indesign CS5 freezes when opening multiple files

When I try to open multiple files at the same time it will show the files on screen as if they are open but then a popup will come up that says "Open 2 Documents" and it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign. I am unable to cancel the dialog box and have to use ctrl+alt+delete to close the program and then open the files one at a time. When I open the program again it then has the files loaded and ready to go. I am working on Windows 7 Professional and I don't have any Indesign Plugins that I use. Extensis Suitcase font auto-activation is turned off.

=> When I try to open multiple files at the same time it opens only the 2 or 3 first ones then it freezes on the Spinning Beach Ball of Death !
=> Then it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign.

Keynote freezing when opening pptx files

hi there,
so i have keynote on my mac with iwork 08 since i got it two summers ago and i have never had this problem before. i think i have even opened pptx files before and they have worked, so im not sure why its not working now.
but the problem is when i try and open pptx files for school it will start the opening screen but stays on it forever and i have to end up force quiting the program. the bar that says loading only gets like 10% of the way, but never further!
whats the deal? i downloaded the latest update for keynote, but it didnt help.
i got the file via email though and can quick preview it both in finder and in mail. also the HD heats up when i try and open it and it sounds like it is strugglin'!

last second thought- i think it has happened just since my update to snow leopard.. maybe thats the problem...

There are two libraries on your Mac:
1. In the System folder
2. In your User folder
It's the second one that has Preferences.
I'd be very surprised not to see a plist in the User>Library> Prefs folder, as each time you launch an app, a plist is created.
However, if this is the case, my suggestion is to delete iWork and reinstall it.

Projector seems to freeze when opening ext file

Ok...I'm back...BTW thank you to everyone that has helped me in the past.
New Problem:
I have a DVD that contains PDF files that I am opening with Acrobat and not in Director using the following code
on mouseUp(me)
baOpenFile( the moviePath & "Some Folder/Mypdfdocument.pdf" , "maximised" )
end mouseUp
the code works great...opens the file no problem on Mac or PC (by the way I'm using Buddy API for the baOpenFile).
Now..after opening the PDF...and when the user closes it and returns to the projector (running in a window and animated in the background it will no longer respond to mouseover, mouseclicks...nothing..its frozen on the frame it was on when the user launched the PDF and it seems like all the buttons no longer retain their functionality (e.g., go to "marker" commands)
what am I missing here? Is there some piece of code I need to add to my movie for it to retain user interactivity even though it is no longer the focus application?

Ok..this problem is alot bigger than I initially recognized. Anytime the end user leaves the projector environment all my buttons lose their functionality..mouseovers, mouseups etc.
I have the prebuilt cursor change attached to stage sprites and the mouseover button animations (changes graphics on MouseEnter and MouseLeave) embedded in the cast members script. All of this works fine until the end users clicks off the projector on another application or launches a video or pdf from the projector...point is once the projector no longer is the focus application it ceases to work at all and responds to nothing the end user does.
In every case the user simply clicked a button that launched baOpen code and i'm holding the playhead with simple code "go to the frame"
Help..I'm pulling my hair out...60+ hours of work dead if I can't figure this out
NOTE:
All of this only happens when running the projector from the DVD in the structure I plan to burn it. It does not do any of the above when I run the director movie and test the buttons

Do you know whether it was built in CS5?
The Premiere project it is linked to must be CS5. (I think this is what I found when using CS3, CS4, and CS5 projects with Encore CS5.)
Try opening the PR project in Premiere, then while open, open the Encore project.

Word 2010 freezes when opening a file from a share drive

Issue:
In our office, one user who is opening up a document from a share folder will experience Microsoft word freezing.
It doesn't display a not responding message
It doesn't lock up and close out automatically
It doesn't show any behavior typical of an issue, however doesn't allow any user input.
Can not type, select anything on menu bar, can not minimize, or close out without using task manager.
You can move the mouse around, however it appears to be frozen.
Everything else works, and nothing shows up in event viewer.
Issue is intermittent
I have been able to duplicate it with different documents, multiple times, and the only variable I can determine is that the files open in Compatibility mode.
For troubleshooting currently I've:
Repaired Office
Deleted the Word Data Registry Key
Deleted the Word Options Registry Key
Deleted the Normal.dot file
Restarted the Computer
Disabled Add-ons
Not sure what I am overlooking and appreciate any help and support.

Office 2010 32-bit
Windows 7 32-bit

How long does Word 2010 “freeze”? I guess it may cost too much time when you open Word 2010 in a shared folder, so that you think it “freeze”. Please wait for a few more minutes to check if Word 2010 can respond. Maybe it just delay of
response.

Why does Quicktime freeze when opening .movs?

For the past few months, I have experienced intermittent screen "blackouts"; essentially the screen goes black as if the computer has gone into sleep mode (while still working in a given program) but there is nothing I can do but a hard shutdown to exit this state. Recently, both Quicktime and VLC have stopped working properly; I've discovered that Quicktime will open .AVI files, but freezes when opening .mov files. VLC will open neither. Both programs work fine when working with audio files. I have updated my mac's graphic drivers (to the best of my knowledge) and have worked around various preferences (open GL video output in VLC for instance) to no avail. My only remaining theory is a corrupt .mov codec file, or a compounding issue stemming from the initial screen blackouts (which I've discovered could be an actual hardware problem with mac pros sold around 2010..), but I feel it's time to outsource for some new solutions. I'm still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8; 2.66 GHz Intel core i7; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; MacBook Pro from 2010. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated, as I've researched for hours and have yet to find a solution or even a potential cause for these issues.

Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website. This only started happening after the latest update of Firefox was installed. Do you have a fix?

Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").

The point is that you're a customer, and the company needs customers, so the individual who's failing to deliver good service needs to be identified so they can be properly trained, and so that problems in the system can also be identified, but more important is that you get the service you're entitled to.
If you search the forum for similar questions, you'll see the kind of information that the volunteer users like yourself on the forum need to know about your system and files involved, so they can help you better.

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (admplugin.apl) crash when opening PDF files

Hi,
I did spend some time today trying to get Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to run on a Citrix Access Essential 2.0 server.
Setup
Server OS:
Windows Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched.
Other software:
Office 2003 Standard, Danish, SP3
Symantec Antivirus 10.1
Adobe Reader 8.1.2, Danish
The installation is clean (1 week old).
Problem description:
When opening PDF files, Adobe Reader crashes before showing any content from the PDF file. The module crashing is admplugin.apl.
Work-arounds tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (DK).
Disabling Antivirus (service stopped)
Replacing admplugin.apl with admplugin.apl from Adobe Reader 8.0
Uninstalling DK version and installing US version.
Adding user to local Administrators to exclude any permission related problems.
Deleting Adobe folders from users profile Application Data\Adobe\... and Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\...
Turn DEP off
Solution:
Finally I gave up and installed 7.0.9 (Danish). It works as expected.
It seems that the problem is known and a few user has reported this. One Adobe KB article mentions the problem, and the solution is to disable some 3. party diagnostic/support tools provided by DSL providers. This is definitively not the issue in this installation.
Anybody from Adobe having any input to this problem?

I am having a similar issue with Ver 8.1.2 running over cirtix with a similar setup to Jans-Peter.
The difference is that Reader opens fine but when you try to edit preferences it crashes.
This only happens on an citrix session. If I run reader on the server directly it works OK.
However after reading above I can replicate the problem on the server by moving or deleting the ADMPlugin.apl file.
Any further ideas at all?

Adobe Acrobat pro 9.4.6 crashes when opening multiple files simultaneously.

We have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 which has been updated to version 9.4.6. we had this problem when the 9.4.5 update was applied also. It is now crashing when we try to open multiple files simultaneously.
Yesterday, I narrowed down the problem to 6 plugins:
IA32
ADBC
eBook
EScript
HLS
PPKLite
SaveAsRTS
However, we discovered that that Comments and markup tool bars weren't loading. So I did a repair install on it.
Now those plugins from yesterday work and Acroform.api is causing it to crash when opening multiple files.
I did try other suggestion that involved using Icacls/cacls on dll files to no avail.
It is running on XP SP3 fully updated with plenty of RAM and HDD space.
Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling?

I am not sure what's causing this problem on your machine because everything's working fine for me.
What is the version of Acroform.api on your machine now.
Do a Repair after deleting this file and see if it works.
Enable Windows MSI logging (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314852) before you do a repair, upload that log to some file sharing server, and paste its link here.
