Adobe Audition 3.0.1 Spectral Frequency Display

Hello hive mind,
When I click on a file to edit it, initially that file appears in waveform edit view mode and then andter a second or two it flips to spectral frequency display.
It is easly enough to Shif+W to get it back to waveform display, but why does it do this? and more's to the point how do I stop it from flipping to spectral freq disp?
I would like the default view in edit mode to be waveform.
Can you help, please?
Win XP Service Pack 3

Ah looks like I've fixed it
Open up the file to edit - swithch back to waveformview
Then go to
Window/Workspace/editview default click on that and it stops flip-flopping

  • Newbie question: Why is "learn sound model" greyed out when trying to remove background sounds in a file using the Spectral Frequency display?

I am trying to remove background sounds in a file using the Spectral Frequency display. The first edit on a new file, this process works fine:
    1. use brush to cover sound
    2. right click, learn sound model
    3. effects/noise-reduction-restoration/Sound Remover
The next time I try to remove another sound in the file, "learn sound model" is greyed out. I have to close the file and reopen to be able to make another edit. What on earth is going on? Can it only learn one sound model or something?
I'm a newbie, so thanks in advance for your advice!

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Zooming in Spectral Frequency Display

Zooming the height of the spectral frequency display either doesn't work, or doesn't work like it used to.  I often want to zoom in on just a narrow frquency band.  I used to be able to do this either by using my marquee selection tool on the narrow band and then clicking "zoom to selection" or by clicking repeatedly on the "zoom in" button and scrolling up or down to the desired frequency.  Neither of the methods seem to work in CS 5.5.  Is there another way of doing this?
    J. D.

Related issue: vertical zoom states of waveform and spectrogram in Edit view are not saved when switching to a different file. You have to manually define the zoom state for each file, which makes it very difficult and time consuming to e.g. directly compare two files at user-defined vertical zoom levels (by switching back and forth).
Windows XP SP3, x86. Is this a bug or a feature? It used to work in AA 3 (and 2 IIRC). The horizontal zoom state is kept when switching between files (assuming the corresponding option in the Preferences is checked).

  • How do I see the frequency of a point in spectral frequency display

    Hi all,
I have recently tried out Au 6 (I use Au 3 at the moment), and though I very much like almost everything so far, there is one HUGE problem...how do I see the frequency of a point under the cursor?  In Au 3 this appeared in the status bar, but I can't figure out how to see it in Au 6.  I spend a lot of times editing bird sounds, and this is an absolutely vital feature for me; without it I will probably have to stick to Au 3.  A huge thanks for anyone who can help with this!
    John

I've tried the method recommended here for a while, and I must say I am extremely unimpressed.  Sure, you can get grid lines to be fairly accurate.  But by the time you've zoomed in to the spot to get the desired frequency (see another post recently by me about the problems with THAT), mentally converted the value into hertz instead of kilohertz to use in the fft filter or where, it's take 3-4x as long, minimum, than it did in Au3.  Why on earth did Adobe get rid of this feature?  Every other sound editing tool I've used has it.  It's as basic as the eraser on the end of a pencil...sure, you can get by without it, but it makes the whole tool so much more useful.  I edit hundreds upon hundreds of sounds, and anything that makes editing a sound take that much longer is a serious issue.  Regrettably I cannot justify a purchase of Au6 at this time, and since I've moved to a mac I can no longer use Au3.  So this will probably be the end of me using Adobe audition.

  • I see wave but no spectral frequency and no sound

I recorded 40 min sermon in multitrack. It's 245Mb file. I played on two different computers and with different programs but no sound. In CS 5.5 I see wave form but spectral frequency display completely black. What happen? Did I lose my recording?

That is my suspicion, though I can't think of any good reason why this might have happened.
Kost7 - Can you tell me if there was anything out of the ordinary when you recorded this file?  Did Audition crash or were there any warning messages that popped up?  Were you ever able to hear any signal?
When Audition records in multitrack, it writes directly to a file on disk.  (In Waveform view, it records to a temp file as an intermediary step - not the case here.)  After the recording process has stopped, it scans the recorded file and generates a ".pkf" file which contains a lower-resolution representation of the waveform.
This implies that there WAS audio data in the WAV file at the time that pkf file was generated.  The only way I've been able to sort of simulate this behavior is by deleting the WAV file, but not the .pkf file, then opening the session up and recording a new clip on the same track.  In this scenario, the existing .pkf file does not appear to be regenerated to reflect the new recording.  I'll enter this as a bug, but I doubt you'd forget to mention this if it were your situation.
Is the session file displayed, 20120325.sesx, the one in which you recorded this session?  I notice it's only 30 seconds in duration, so I'm unclear if they're related.  Could there be a different session file on disk?  Have you tried previewing all of the wav files in the _Recorded subfolder where your session file is located?

  • Frequency Analysis on Adobe Audition CS5.5 for bioacoustics research

    Hi everyone,
    In need of some help.
I research whale/dolphin sounds, and have previously used Raven Pro for analysis. Ive found Adobe Audition produces a much better spectrogram (think it must be the FFT algorithm) and allows me to visualize a lot of whale calls that I may have missed previously by visual inspection on other software.
I need to measure these calls. Basically I need the duration (seconds), minimum frequency (kHz), maximum frequency (kHz) etc.
I have played around with the Frequency Analysis tool in Adobe Audition, and this cannot compute these figures for me at all. In Raven, it was extremely user friendly, and all you had to do was highlight the call by moving your cursor over and selecting the call, and in the left hand window, it would tell you the min F and max F and duration for that swatch that you had highlighted. Is there any way of doing this in Adobe? I know you can visually see on the right hand side the Frequency axis- but it doesn't give you the exact frequency i.e. I need it to be to 2 decimal places eg. 2.12 kHz minimum etc.
I have inserted a screen grab of what I mean when you "highlight the call".
Is there any way of doing this? I would be incredibly surprized if Adobe Audition does not have the ability to do so. But I have read through the manual and gone through a lot of threads and just can't find any information on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!
    Thankyou so much in advance
    Bec.
p.s. Whilst Im asking, is there anyway to change the time format in the "Selection/View" box? Ive seen you can display it many many ways, but I need it in seconds, and the most sensible time format is mm:ss.ddd. Is there anyway I can change it to just ss:ss? There are a bunch of options for frame times, but nothing else for actual time.

When you highlight a section, in the bottom right corner of the screen you'll find the timing section, and in there the box marked 'duration' will show you exactly how much time you've highlighted. In Frequency Analysis, the way to note highest and lowest frequencies is, unfortunately, manual and involves finding them with the cursor and noting the cursor information (under the display). If you open the advanced window, you'll get more information, including the level of the frequency at the cursor position. Also there's a bug in the display (or more to the point, the way it's calculated) which means that if you highlight just one section in the spectral view, this isn't what the Frequency Analysis display shows - I'm reporting that one.

No I'm afraid there isn't. I did try a cheat to see if I could at least get the timeline to do this, but that won't work either. Yes I think it should be there as an option too...

  • Is there a way to view frequency levels in Hz on Adobe Audition 3.0 during voice recordings?

Is there a way to view frequency levels in Hz on Adobe Audition 3.0 during voice recordings so I can ensure the recordings are hitting the specific frequency range I desire?

The frequency analyser pane can run in real time and show you this, but with a voice, there's no way you can alter the effective range anyway - it's almost entirely dependent on the voice you are recording, and they all fall pretty much into the same bands - depending on whether you're male or female.

  • Method use in Spectral Frequency in Adobe Audion ?

This is an education question... but I can't answer when my teacher ask me.
I'm using Spectral Frequency to see noise frequency... it's very simple. but what happen in it? I know alot of DSP, which method using in Adobe Audion 3.0. I wan't more detail as possible.
    Please help me.
    Sorry for my English.

As I said, you should look for an explanation in your native tongue. We are not talking about basic english here, but some relatively complex technical language - to really understand FFTs you need a good grasp of the language that the subject is being explained in.
To give you a basic idea of what you are up against, have a look at the Wikipedia page about them:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Fourier_transform
And anyway, you're a student. One of the most important things you have to learn, regardless of the subject, is about researching for yourself. If I give you all the answers, it might get you through your term paper, but it won't get you any further than that, will it? The stuff you learn best is the stuff you find out for yourself, as a rule, not the things handed to you on a plate. And the thing to do is not just to find out what, but
    why...

  • Adobe Audition line-in Recording Problems

    Hello,
I've just started using windows 7, used to and still do use on other computers windows xp.
I installed adobe audition 1.5 on the computer with windows 7.
In xp you had to select line in, in the recording control to allow you to record if something was playing in the background.
    see images: .
I can't seem to enable this function in 7, so i can't sample anything playing in the back ground.
Has anyone had this problem, do you know how to sort this out, please help.
    kind regards
    Dan W

You can probably do what you want. But you probably need to adjust settings within Adobe Audition.
First, since this is a new PC, it's really important to get all your hardware drivers and Windows 7 itself totally up-to-date.  Keep going back to Windows Update until Win 7 says it has installed all the downloads it can find for your new PC. Win 7 is pretty good about updating itself as needed.  Just let it do its thing. And then be sure that when you go to a website like youtube.com and play a video, you can hear sound over the PC speakers.
You probably already know how to tell whether stream recording will work in Audition, but just to be clear, if you're playing a video at youtube.com for example, and you can hear the sounds over the PC speaker and you have Audition in Record mode, you should be seeing the sound level bars at the bottom of the display dancing in time with the sounds you hear.  If they're not dancing, stream recording will not work.
To fix this, in AA1.5, go to Options>Device Properties.  Hit the "Wave In" tab (at the top)--not "Wave Out".  Near the top left of the window that pops when you click "Wave In" will be a window with a small arrow to the right of it.  Click on that small arrow.  It will show you a list of devices Audition thinks might be used to record sounds within Audition.  But if stream recording isn't working, Audition may be picking the wrong device to use.
Here's how to try a different device in Audition which may get stream recording working.  Follow the directions carefully here.  It's easy to skip a step and then it won't work. Unfortunately, setting devices in AA1.5 is unnecessarily unintuitive, IMO. Click the Change button to the right of the device window with the little arrow on "Wave In" tab.   On Recording Devices tab at the top, select a device in the window on the left (Unused Record Devices).  I can't tell you for sure which one will work with your PC, as this depends to an extent on your sound hardware which will be different from mine.  But two good ones to try first are Monitor and Line In. Click the device you want to try so it's highlighted, and then click the Use button.  It will move over to the box on the right (Multitrack Device Preference Order).  Click the Move Up button on the bottom there until the device you're trying next is raised up to "1st". Then click "OK" (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  The display will then show the previous window and the device you elevated to 1st position should now appear in the device window there.  To the right of the Change button is a small check box labeled "Use this device in Edit View."  Be sure this box is checked and then click OK (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  In WinXP, it used to help at this point to close and reopen Audition though I'm not sure it helps with Win 7; but you don't need to reboot the PC.
Now try playing that video in youtube again.  Can Audition stream record it?  If not, go back as before to Recording Devices and try a different device until you've tried each one of them in 1st position, being very careful that you are clicking OK to exit the two windows there and that "Use this device in Edit View" is checked each and every time you try a different device.
If the bars dance during Record mode, but you hear nothing in Audition when you play back the file, stream recording is now working but you may need to go back to Device Properties as above and this time pick a different device in "Wave Out" tab so Audition playback is correctly passed to your PC speakers.
Once you get it working, I strongly recommend making notes somewhere that you'll be able to find again if you have to reinstall everything, because as I say, this stuff is not intutive, and unless you have notes on the correct settings and how to get them on your PC, you'll find yourself out at sea again if you have to reinstall.

  • Re:  Adobe Audition Content Download

I was instructed to post my question here by the Adobe telephone Customer Support:
I have recently purchased Audition CS6.
This provided me with downloadable music and effects through adobe.com, "Adobe Audition Content Download"  (Which referrs to "loopology" in the html address..)
    the site is:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=auditionloopology
Adobe Telephone Customer Support has informed me that this audio collection IS royalty-free and attribution-free.
What they were not able to answer was this:
Additionally, does this collection have a Cue Sheet requirement or any other legal restrictions for use in the broadcast arena?
The EULA link for this collection points to a page that referrs to the entire Adobe product family.  I could not find legal information pertaining to this particular service anywhere on that page.
Thanks, in advance, for your help!

I think you'll find that 'attribution free' means exactly that - and we've always regarded it that way. I know the originator of some of it, and he has effectively waived all rights to what he did, so we are presuming that the same thing applies to all of it. This means that effectively, there are no broadcast restrictions, and no cue sheet requirements - although you might want to attribute the collection, just to stop questions, I suppose. I read through the Software Licence agreement, and the part of this that appears to be relevant is this:
2.3 Content Files. Unless stated otherwise in the “Read-Me” files, Documentation, or other license(s) associated with the Content Files, Customer may use, display, modify, reproduce, and distribute any of the Content Files. However, Customer may not distribute the Content Files on a stand-alone basis (i.e., in circumstances in which the Content Files constitute the primary value of the product being distributed), and Customer may not claim any trademark rights in the Content Files or derivative works thereof. Nothing stated herein shall affect the ownership of the Software as stated in Section 3.
So, if the read-me's don't say otherwise, you're good to go doing nothing!

Without knowing anything about your system we can't even begin to advise. These libraries are used by gigazillions of programs and even device drivers, so the most plausible explanation is that one of those other tools has installed an incompatible version or has flagged them as critical so they cannot be arbitrarily removed by other installers. Either way, this is nothing that can be solved easily. Also not that you have a "display requirements not met" error there, which may point to a configuration issue with your graphics hardware and potentially cause the collateral issue with the MSVC libraries.
