Adobe Audition for Video Editors webinar recording online

Hi everyone,
Last week, Audition sponsored a screencast hosted by Kanen Flowers covering his workflows for editing audio for video projects.  The recording of the event is online at http://seminars.adobeconnect.com/p58yg03mkgg/
We had a great turnout, and if people find these valuable, we'll try to schedule more of them addressing different editing topics.
Have a great day,
Durin

I was interested enough to sign up for the real-time webinar. I want my hour back.
Based on its biling, I expected it to deal a fair amount with dialog editing, but it just touched on the subject and most of that was about trying to fix dialog from a Skype connection -- something of little interest to the vast majority of videographers.
The structure was just a ramble; it seemed to me that Kenan did little to prepare. It was more an ad for Kenan and his show than it was useful for videographers trying to learn how to use Audition. But maybe that was just me; YMMV.
I should add that I've watched several other Abobe webinars. Most were good solid useful information. The bar is set fairly high, which is probably why I was dissapointed in this one.

Demystifying Audio – Adobe Audition for Video Editors
Thursday, July 25h, 2013 |10:00 AM Pacific Time
    Presented by: Larry Jordan
"The best way to improve the quality of your picture is to improve the quality of your sound" - Larry Jordan
The first question many video editors ask is: "why should I consider using an audio application for my projects?"
In this special presentation, Larry Jordan will show you how you can use Adobe Audition to create better videos.
Starting with an overview of the application, Larry will then demonstrate how Audition can make your life a lot easier.
During this 45-minute presentation, you'll discover:
How to send files and projects between Premiere Pro and Audition
How to remove hum from an interview How to remove background noise
How to maximize audio levels without causing distortion
How to do an audio mix of your project
How to create "stems," or submixes, of your dialog, effects, and music tracks
How to test your final mix to be sure it meets all technical specs before submitting it to the client.
The session will be followed by a Q&A.
Audience: video editors, postproduction professionals, audio pros
Applications: Adobe Audition CC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC.
Workflows with other NLEs will also be discussed.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=detail&id=1903730&loc=en_us&sdid=KCTHJ

I don't think this will be on Adobe TV, but you can view the Adobe Connect recording of the session here:

If the audio stream doesn't play, or loses synch, try moving the playhead forward/backward a bit. That should kick it back into synch.
I plan to have a little guide to the session, along with some helpful links, posted later today.

Great tutorial. When I build a timelapse I start by importing the image sequence and then make the proper frame size on export. Is there a benefit to creating a project at the proper frame size and rate first?

  • Adobe Premier Elements Video Editor will not open

I just installed version 12 of Adobe Premier Elements on my Windows 7 (64) system and am unable to open Video Editor.  I receive a message that the display driver is not current and a newer version would make the program run more efficiently.  After some time, the video editor stops trying to load.  I have verified all windows updates are loaded and that I have the most current Quicktime version.  I have also unloaded and reloaded Adobe Premier Elements but this issue continues to persist.  Please assist.

    1.     What is your video card's/chip's make and model?
AMD Radeon HD 8730M, Intel Graphics HD 4000
There have been discussions here about problems with Premiere Elements and a dual video card set up.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5747654
What happens if you disable the Intel Graphics HD 4000 and just work with the AMD video card?
This is one of John T. Smith's and Hunt's favorite subjects. So we should be hearing from them soon. Meanwhile their presence can be felt in the link that I have referenced on this subject of dual video cards.
    More later.

  • Audio tricks for video editors?

I'm a somewhat experienced video editor who has at most of my career had an audio guy nearby to work on sound design, effects and cleanup. For some freelance projects, however, there's nobody to do that. I occasionally have to remove some noise, compress interview audio and voiceovers, and mixdown voice with music in a way that doesn't suck. And mostly, it has been sucking. A lot.
Are there any good books or tutorials out there that teach a video editor like myself some good audio tricks in order to accomplish semi-professional results?

    Hi Zopiro,
    This might help:

  • IMac 27" vs 21.5" for Video Editor?

I cannot decideo between these, and the only hardcore thing I will be doing on the iMac is video editing, other wise, I dont play games.

Personally I would get the 27" iMac simply because of the bigger display and higher resolution of it which can be helpful for video-editing.
More open windows without anything hiding or overlapping.

  • Which Adobe Product For Videos Editing

    Hi,
I have always been a huge fan of adobe but currently I am in a bad situation and I need your suggestion.
I am now put incharge of the video editing department, where our company make videos and send it to clients. It's a multinational company so imagine the professional customer.
The Videos will include Power Point presentation capture with Audio and a huge amount of Video Camera movies.
Our Company Manager suggesting Camtasia, Sony but I heard Adobe has a very good product as well.
Kindly suggest what Adobe Product and Version can support my requirement and also is it better and easy to operate than the above two products.
    Thanks...
    Waiting for your honest replies...

    @Smith, John and Hunt.
Thanks alot, I was not expecting such a comprehensive and awesome replies.
    Thanks alot..
Received a call from Manager and we will be using Two Technologies :), PowerPoint Capture will be done by Camtasia as we are already using it and have recently upgraded from 6 to 7.
@John I am abit confused on your last statement. Can you please explain it abit.
Let me clarify more my requirements:
We will be shooting on a 720P Camera or Cam Corders and I guess it's HD.
We will be conducting Interviews and more Class room trainings on a White Board.
We will capture that and remove the noisy or unwanted part and then distribute it online as well as on CD's or DVD's.
I guess it's pretty much simple.
So please give me your Final suggestions:
Director or Premiere Pro + Encore or Premiere Elements.

  • Adobe AIR for Video Wall project - the right tool?

I need to decide whether Adobe AIR is the right tool for a Video Wall project. The Video wall would be one of only 4 installations.
It would need good offline capability.
The application would play back both canned video as well as twitter feeds.
The other option is to go all HTML with perhaps the Canvas element to display video, graphics.
I'm biased towards using Flash, AIR but am open to new ideas.
What are the pros, cons of each approach?

Pros of the Adobe route would be a little more control and reliability. You can easily go fullscreen, preload other videos easily in the background and display them on the hardware GPU decoded StageVideo (with the right video card, almost all of them at this point). Twitter feed loading would have some robust error handling to assure it goes smoothly but if you need offline capability you'll need some canned material for the feeds in that situation.
HTML can go fullscreen but the caveat would be drawing your twitter feed over the video at that point. Because it's fullscreen I don't believe you can have your text over it from a <video> element but you'd need to use <canvas>'s fullscreen and actually mux the text into the video.
The long haul of Adobe's roadmap clearly states video and games are the future of FP and AIR. I've done tons of kiosks in Flash and AIR, many of which just act as a video wall, attracting people to very large screens. I've had nothing but success doing this. I'd only even approach HTML5 if you have some reason to desire to put this on the web, and even then, Flash is still fine in that situation too.

  • Is the Adobe Workflow for Video Lossy?

I'm coming from Sony Vegas which was an all-in-one solution.  No round-tripping from application to application.
The Adobe workflow is, obviously, very different.  The question is, is it a workflow that retains optimal quality.  If you are having to render out the video file multiple times, you're losing quality along the way, are you not?
What do you do to retain quality from start to finish?
    Thanks.

    I don't use Speedgrade.
These are recommended codecs for DI use in Premiere:
Lagarith Lossless Video Codec (pc only)
    http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html
Ut Video Codec Suite (pc or mac / lossless)

Alternatively, you can use uncompressed image sequences

    Hi,
You can use the function module - BCONTACT_CREATE to create Contact record
    (or)
make a BDC of the Tcode - BCT1(Contact creation) and use the same for creation of contacts in batch
Note: Contact is created against Business Partner and not Contract Account. So you will have to include your logic of finding out the respective Business Partner for the Contract Account for which you need to create Contact record.

  • Question for video editors re. external storage

Sorry this isn't directly FCP-related, but I'm hoping the question will be permitted as I'm trying to get input from colleagues in the video production world.
I travel a lot... not only on airplanes but bumpy trucks etc. for my video work, and I often have to take my external hard drive with me. I'm thinking that I'd better have two of them: one stable one at home which won't move, as a backup, and one that I can take with me for digitized footage etc. that I need to do on the road.
I was told that any drive over 160GB will be too vulnerable for such rough treatment. Is that true?
What brand/type might be the best? It was suggested to me that IOmega might be right, though PCWorld consistently rates Seagate and Western Digital as the best. For the stable back-up, a Seagate I think would do (I have a 300GB one at present).
If this is truly the wrong place for this post, please forgive and redirect me to one which might provide the answer from the right industry pros.
    Thanks,
    Kim

I have had very poor luck with WD drives. Had to replace 4 drives within one year. I have yet to return any Hitachi's of which I know have 6, or my Seagates. I no longer buy any WD's and only use them for long term storage so they do not get much use. My system now has 4 250GB Hitachi's inside for everyday use.
Seems like calls to the manufactures to get specific drive specs would be a good starting point.

  • Best Traveling case for video editors.

Any suggestions for traveling with a 17" MBP to do editing work? I need to carry on the plane my 17" MBP along with the cables needed to connect everything on site. I will put the rest of my gear in my suitcase. I was using my Brenthaven with my old PB 17" but it seems that the MBP is a tighter fit and I don't want to stand in airport security for 10 minutes trying to remove the computer. Thanks.

  • Help For A Novice User Of Adobe Audition v.3

We purchased Adobe Audition vs. 3 to record programs to put on the radio. The trouble is I am a novice with this program.
Where do I go to learn how to use this program? The only thing I need for now is to know how to :
    (1)Record a voice track
(2)Insert a track off a CD for an open to the program.
(3)Insert a track off a CD for a close to the program.
I only need the ABC's of getting started for now. Please direct me to the right source. Adobe wanted $39.00 to help.

http://www.lynda.com have some online training for Audition 3. I had a general subscription there and tried it out, and it's nice! It isn't free, but for little money you get up to speed very quickly and perhaps with a more hands-on approach that you'd prefer over reading yourself. We're all different.

  • Recording audio in Adobe Audition from a DVD played on Windows Media Player

I use Adobe Audition for audio production. I should be able to play a DVD via Windows Media Player and record the audio from it using Adobe Audition.
    It isn't working.
I get a pop-up message indicating: INVALID ASIO INPUT (it continues to read) ! The selected input port or ASIO driver is invalid. Please change your settings in the audio hardware setup dialogue.
I tried that approach, and was not offered the ability to make that change.
Anyone have any ideas? My much older VAIO Sony computer handled this perfectly.
    Thanks!

    Hey Terry
in the corporate world wee have to contend with clients who are all windows based and prevented from installing anything on their systems.
    I use Flip4Mac, Studio Pro HD, with the following mix of settings;
Open clip in QT, I do also use compressor but for some reason I like using QT for exporting to WMV.
    File/Export
    Export:movie to windows media
Use: One pass VBR, Presentation (high), 16:9
    Options>
Advanced... input type: interlace Lower field first(DV), output type: progressive
    Coding method: Two pass VBR
Give this a shot and then tweak to suit your needs, oh and you can save your settings as a preset for QuickTime.
Within Compressor there is no export to WMV, so you have to start with another setting and create your own saving it for future use.
